    A 351W roller engine is a helluva score! I look every time I go to the junkyard but they are hard to come by. I am also a "do as much of it as you can" kind of guy. It's so satisfying when you get it all back together and it runs good. You can tell anyone who asks that "I built it myself".

    I’m 55 yrs old, I’ve been in many 351W since the 70s. I believe it’s better then a Chevy 350, it pulls harder and i think it’s a much better engine, I’ve been in many Chevy 350s as well.
    A 351W decked out is quite possibly as good as it gets and you still have plenty of room to work on it. Parts availability is much better then a351C.
    Put a nice 351W on 3.89s to 3.91s on a toploader with a 9” rear, stuffed in 69’ Mach 1,
    yea, I’m thinking I’m back !

    Never throw anything away! God I wish I had all the shit I tossed back in the ‘90s.
    1985 dual snorkel air filter housing, tons of ‘85-‘86 GT interior pieces like halo headrests and a bunch of H.O intakes, 10 hole wheels, etc… I gave away and threw away soooo much. Smh. Cleveland blocks only have a 9.2" deck. They are heavy, but have great heads. But, shoot too much gas on them and you'll see their insides! Know a guy that turned them over 8000rpm! The Windsors have more potential in the aftermarket and much easier to get a decent rod/stroke ratio. Most guys turned the into 408s. Interestingly enough, Windsor jictor Jr heads have nearly identical flow numbers as the 4bbl Cleveland heads!??? You can get stroker kits for Clevelands too!

If you use a ball home you won't find low spots in the cylinder walls they'll get a good cross hatch though. When I use A flat stone hone, I Have found low spots both times I did it on 2 4 cylinder + Not knowing the history of the engine. Or how many times it was overheated,Which could create cylinder wall distortion. In the end Might not affect horsepower to much But it's still something and might affect long term reliability. @Neomustangs  2 года назад +2

      Stay roller

    • @albertgaspar627
      @albertgaspar627 2 года назад +3

      Roller lifters have a lot of benefits. the first one is that there is less zinc in motor oil these days since zinc clogs up catalytic converters on engines leaking oil thru the rings or valve seals. If you use flat tappets on a cam, you want to add zinc on break-in or you'll wipe out your camshaft lobes in a minute on first startup. Second is reduced friction and third is the design--you can get radical with a cam design by opening the valves to full lift sooner. doing this means you can design a cam profile that holds the valve open for less duration, since it got to full lift sooner. Less duration can make a cam operate "milder", so you get the benefit of whatever valve lift is necessary to get the head of the valve out of the way of the air/fuel flow (or exhaust flow) but you can lessen the duration the valve is open. this can help build vacuum or smooth out the idle of the engine, so you don't even need big power levels for a roller cam design to help make a car more "streetable" or "daily driver"--such as running AC in these temps and not stalling out a rough idling engine.
