Filipinos prefer whiter skin kasi nag mumukhang mayaman dahil di na aarawan while Caucasians prefer darker skin dahil sa lugar nila, only wealthy people can afford going to tropical places kaya nag mumukhang mayaman mga tanned skin Edit: guys, I'm not saying this is applicable to every Caucasians but according to what we were taught and some anthropologists, Caucasians prefer fairer skin but that changed when people stopped working in manual labor and start working indoors etc. Around 1950s ata? So kalma guys. 2020 na ngayon and nag babago ang preferences and reasons kung bakit prefer nila ng dark skin ☺️
Actually I disagree with Caucasians wanting dark skin because one would look well travelled. Caucasuans in the west don't really like to look pale because it doesn't seem healthy. They generally prefer to look bronzed because they perceive it to look "better" than being pale af. It has nothing to do with looking rich (at least most of the time) 😊 Source: I live in the West
Tama. And I think Filipino beauty standard , similar lang sa ibang asian countries particular sa desirable na color ng balat. Pare-pareho lang tayu....

I think I noticed that as a mostly white person, more people make fun of me for being pale. I remember when I was tan a lot of people loved it and were very envious. Might have got some strange looks but mostly positive. I don't think anywhere really likes hair women.
okay here’s my take: the whitewashing industry IS toxic. unlike the west wanting to tan, i feel as though asia puts more pressure in needing to look a certain way. promoting and advertising light skin to an audience with a majority of tan skin is harmful, especially to the youth. we shouldn’t be okay-ing this. let’s be real, being light is a privilege. it’s no longer just a preference, but a mindset we should go against.
i agree that it can really be harmful, scientifically it is unhealthy to be pale or white in a tropical country...plus most sunscreens are also harmful for the environment (sa sea for example) so it doesn’t only harm the people but also the environment
It's crazy because I've always been teased and made fun of for being too pale. Being told I look sick or like I'm dying. Having people tell me I'd look better if I got a tan, asking why I dont use tanning beds or tanning lotion. I've been told guys would find me more attractive if I tanned. When I went through an eating disorder I was also told I wouldn't look as big if I tanned. It's not in the same playing field as whitewashing but there is a pressure here in the west to be tan more than some think. It all needs to be addressed, there's shouldn't be pressure to change your body.
Pare-pareho namang toxic ang whitening and tanning. Toxic sa mental at physical health. Kung dito privilege ang pagiging maputi, sa West naman ang pagiging tanned.
I'd rather stay brown and get insulted for not being their ideal than to try to be something I'm not. I'm proud and people use my color to let me down but those people are just hypocrites and I don't want to join a bandwagon full of toxicity.
True, but it's still a problem nonetheless (colorism/ preferrance to western features) , no matter what country they may come from. That's why people are speaking up
Almost every filipino prefers white skin, straight long hair, perfect nose, peach blossom eyes, hour-glass figure, and long legs, the lighter the skin tone the better, and face without any blemishes.

If you were born brown and raised in a country full of brown people, you would wanna stand out so you would wish you're white. But in your situation, you were born to have white skin and in a white country so you would want to stand out and be tanned. People just want to have something they can't have.
@@ceerie7487 That's very true, it's just there's a huge difference between tanning and skin bleaching especially since we know the history on colonial mentality and our ancestors coming from Africa. A brown person shouldn't be afraid to get darker, they should enjoy being outdoors as much as a white person that like to tan. I'm lucky to tan, people like my dad get sunburns while Melanin in Filipinos is like a knights shinning armor, it's glistening, beautiful and it's protection from the sun.
LB Yui i disagree but also agree... i think it’s not the case of wanting to “stand out” and look different, but it is still the impact of beauty standards. A short message: We should all be proud of what we are. We should embrace it. We should never make fun of our own ancestors and the tribal communities because that's where we came from. Why do people need to be white just to be called *"BEAUTIFUL"* ? Filipinos are racist of their own kind but appreciate others, i think we should give some respect and love to our selves first. Filipinos think they need to be white because they want people to notice their skin and their delusions of *"any outfits suits you if you're white"* . And also, please stop bullying white filipinos calling them *"You are just beautiful because you're white"* or *"You're not smart, you're just white"* . Just because they are white doesn't mean they are what you expected, also applies with every skin color. Brown/black filipinos are discrimintating themselves without realizing it. They think, the whites degrade them and have more privilege. And there goes bullying white people, making fun of them, speaks of stereotypes, and also downgrading them too, due to the brown skinned filipinos defense mechanism to reverse the situation (the situation wherein brown/black ppl envied white and then bullies them so that the whites would also feel envy and uncomfortable of their own skin). Stop these kind of bullying, stereotypes and colorism guys. We should respect every color guys, whether *BLACK, BROWN, YELLOW OR WHITE* . Let us love ourselves and not let anybody tell what we should be look like just for others to like us. One way to look beautiful is to be confident. You can slay ur outift, your persona if you are just being youself and confident. We have flaws guys, dont forget that. Embrace it, no one is perfect. Changing yourself in a bad way is never gonna make things better. Change your self for the better, for others and for yourself. And also, we should not be manipulated by these advertisements only promoting only white skin. It's okay to use those products but don't let yourself be fed up by these propaganda and manipulate u for ur whole life thinking white is better which is very sad and heart breaking. Remember, *BLACKS DON'T CRACK* for morenos morenas . God bless have a good day ❤❤
Beauty is not a seeing thing, it's a feeling thing. If you feel beautiful, you'll look beautiful. 'Beauty' products were served to us to give solutions to our insecurities. But it's always your choice. If you want to stay as you are, it's fine. And it's also okay if you want to change your self, as long as you feel beautiful and confident, do it. Don't hold back. Because as I've said, beauty is not a seeing thing, it's a feeling thing.

Kahit gaano pa kadami ganitong klaseng videos, kahit gaano pa kadaming "love yourself" speeches, the day after, promise nakalimutan na itong klaseng vids and back to reality, which is "light skin western style" is still the one being looked up to. The eastern world will always love fairer types, whitening lotions, brightening, etc. And the western world will always love spray tans, tanning shops, basking in the sun, etc. See, thousands of years, the mentality is still there and will remain there. It's better to live with the reality at the back of your mind rather than to keep sugarcoating.

Embrace what you really are! We are gorgeous in our own way💅🏽
It's colonial mentality pag Causcasian tingin ng pinoy super ganda na or gwapo but back on their country they look average tapos pag may pinoy na naka jowa ng causcasian sasabihin na agad siya ng jackpot, the thing is we are always proud of our race yet we always downgrade ourselves without even realizing it katulad nalang ng sinabi ko na "ay nakaasawa ng puti ang swerte naman" foreigner or pinay you're always lucky that you found a girl wag mong ibase ang kaswertehan sa race or nationality no race is better than the other
The question is, where do this attitude and mentality come from? Can Psychology or Freud explain why we think like this? Is there a Ted talk about this?🤔
It has to do with colonization. Eurocentric and asian beauty standards. We're such a melting pot of ethinicities but only a certain demographic is revered and celebrated by the media whereas it should be diverse. We're getting there though. The shackles of colonial mentality is getting looser and looser and we're evolving as a society. Before, we had to assimilate to be accepted (Dona Victorina in Rizal's Noli) but we don't have to anymore. It's up to us, the next generation of parents to instill in our children that everyone can be beautiful regardless of race and color.
I think it’s the culture way back colonization. People with fair skin are often depicted as someone in higher social status because they don’t have to work in the fields. In the same way this happens in the west too. Tanned skin symbolizes the higher social status because they have the resources to go in beaches.
@@hannahsimbol8496 did precolonial philippines have colorism way before colonization? That's a concept I havent heard of before. I know there was a bugkot but she wasnt beauty standard.

Confidence is the key, because once we start loving our self every time we look in the mirror, that true love and you can face anyone who criticize you because you can find what is good in you.. just remember before, someone told me na ay girl alam mo kapag nagpagawa ka ng ilong youll be beautiful that BS, i am happy with what i have kasi nakakahinga nmn po ako.. salamat.. 😂😂

8:32 & 8:55 is biggest and most heart-warming advice i have ever received. i am a very insecure person, i'm always anxious about how i look, like i overthink that people are judging me even if they're not. their advice really hit me, I mean it takes a lot of time to fully accept yourself, you have to go through all that struggle to see your full potential and i can stand out in a positive way, i can stand out by being me.
In my experience, it's better to know what you have than what you want to have. No one is meant to be a copy of another. Just like cutting gems, you gotta know the gem's structure or else it won't shine. Society has always been biased, since it is in our nature to favor something seen collectively as good than something seen as bad. We are social creatures, and will therefore seek to be "one of the people". Nothing stays the same though. Earth's climate have always been changing, and so has society.

I have encountered people being sour na pinaparinggan ako “sus maputi ka lang” “Just a pretty face/eye candy” “Mayabang kasi may itsura” (but I’m actually not) I, too wear makeup because I wanna enhance this beauty God given me. ♥️😊 wala share ko lang. no hate ♥️
I love how this video captures different experiences of Pinoy issues on beauty standards. Sobrang gets ko yung pag-asar about height, skin color, and body size. Hope more people will open their eyes more that these "beauty" standards in the Philippines actually impact self-worth and the daily lives of people!
Nakakatawa magbasa ng comments dito. Ang dami namimiss yung point. If you're born with a natural lighter skin tone, hindi namang sinasabing magpaka tan ka para lang masabing proud ka maging Pinoy. If you're morena tapos gusto mo magpaputi, wala namang pumipigil sa'yo and hindi naman sa lahat ng pagkakataon, di ka na proud maging Pinoy kaya ka nagpaputi. The point here is yung na establish na beauty standards sa country natin na deeply rooted sa colonization. Dahil sa beauty standards na 'to, nagkakaroon ng unfairness when it comes to situations like for example, sa mga customer-facing na trabaho (example sales clerk). Madalas, yung mapuputi ang napipili kasi kapag sinabing maputi, naeequate siya sa "makinis", "presentable", "maganda" wherein you can be morena and also "makinis", "presentable", "maganda". It's the unfair mindset and standard ng society natin ang issue dito, in my opinion. Dagdag mo na mga kapitalista na tinatake advantage ang mindset na 'to hahaha. Sana we can have a society that looks past these skin tone differences and more acceptance + equal opportunity regardless of skin color. On the brighter side, agree ako kay kuya na more open yung generation natin (I guess millenial) sa diverse beauty standards. I also agree with ateng lumaki sa UK na humans will always want something that they don't have. Bow. Dami ko sinabi. 😂 Love yourself. Be proud what your mama gave you. 💜

It is not dependent on ads you see on billboards and TV nor from other people.

I like white women I'm Filipino 😂😂
@@SixHundredAndSixtySix i can’t act on it, that’s every filipino’s personal decision to love the skin they’re in, I’m not trying to change the world, just voicing my opinion like everyone on the comments section.
Filipinos prefer whiter skin kasi nag mumukhang mayaman dahil di na aarawan while Caucasians prefer darker skin dahil sa lugar nila, only wealthy people can afford going to tropical places kaya nag mumukhang mayaman mga tanned skin
Edit: guys, I'm not saying this is applicable to every Caucasians but according to what we were taught and some anthropologists, Caucasians prefer fairer skin but that changed when people stopped working in manual labor and start working indoors etc.

The girl who wears round glasses with a curly hair, girl your'e gorgeous
okay here’s my take: the whitewashing industry IS toxic. unlike the west wanting to tan, i feel as though asia puts more pressure in needing to look a certain way. promoting and advertising light skin to an audience with a majority of tan skin is harmful, especially to the youth. we shouldn’t be okay-ing this. let’s be real, being light is a privilege. it’s no longer just a preference, but a mindset we should go against.
worldwide dark skinned people are teased? why should we be okay with eurocentric features being our definition of beauty?
i agree that it can really be harmful, scientifically it is unhealthy to be pale or white in a tropical country...plus most sunscreens are also harmful for the environment (sa sea for example) so it doesn’t only harm the people but also the environment
Bella asdfghjkllkjkjhhfdut i’m sorry u went through that!!! and you’re right, we should just end promoting different appearances in general.
Pare-pareho namang toxic ang whitening and tanning. Toxic sa mental at physical health. Kung dito privilege ang pagiging maputi, sa West naman ang pagiging tanned.
As Frederic Chen said “the beauty industry profits on people’s insecurities”

Beauty companies use our insecurities and are the one who set the standards of what beautiful is.
If you embrace ur beauty they'll run out of business..
Is it bad to want to look better?
@@miao8052 absolutely not as long as ur motivation is for ur own health and satisfaction.
@@miao8052 it's bad if you hate your own looks,be aesthetic and rock your assets.
Beauty companies follow the trend of standard of beauty. The standard of beauty is defined by most powerful brainwashing media in the world. Hollywood. Worshiping white plp(colonized mentality) got us into this mess. Filipinas don't worship white skin of east asians, they worship white skins of westerners.
@@miao8052 nothing wrong with wanting to look better. What makes it wrong is when you think it's an advantage for you over other people when it comes to many opportunities. When you use it to leverage yourself better chances in life, then that becomes wrong. Say for an instance, it's wring to think you'd like a whiter skin in hopes of getting picked by companies over other applicants. The very reason why many were outrage about the advert of a whitening product giving an idea of a whiter skin, better opportunities.
I dont know why BUT I hope parents change their own perspectives like, they are the one who said *"your not pretty enough" , "ang itim itim mo.", "you look fat" , "tignan mo siya ang ayos ayos tignan."* . We all have our own version of beauty. It's just a matter of confidence.
Growing up being Half Filipino that's white passing, I was always told I never looked Filipino so it really does blow my mind that being mixed is a beauty standard there but I'm really not here for it. Just know a lotta white people including myself wish we were tan and brown. I can get a amazing tan due to my genetics but once winter comes it just makes me wish I'm at the beach 😂😭😭. Makes me mad I could've been born brown but that doesn't mean I don't have brown pride 🇵🇭🇵🇭. Let's end this colonial mindset before the Filipino identity is erased. Brown and Proud!
I think it's human perception. The never ending cycle of never experiencing contentment.
Because if you were born brown and was raised in a country full of brown people, and you wanted to “stand out”, why not become more darker skin toned instead of white ?
Haha I'm half too. My skin that is always covered by clothes is pasty white but my forearms see a lot of sun so I have an almost permanent farmer's tan. It would probably take like 2 full years of staying inside to get them fully white.

"i'm learning to be more confident and embrace my flaws"
A short message:
We should all be proud of what we are.

But it's always your choice. If you want to stay as you are, it's fine. And it's also okay if you want to change your self, as long as you feel beautiful and confident, do it. Don't hold back. Ang point lang is kanya2x taste sa beauty yan....

Cloud of Reverie Yes, there was. Though it wasn't extensively researched yet, my history prof in upd said it is possible that Filipinos' addiction to whiter skin runs deep in their pre colonial history. The Binukot, specifically, we can all start from here why we have this mentality.

I love how this video captures different experiences of Pinoy issues on beauty standards. Sobrang gets ko yung pag-asar about height, skin color, and body size. Hope more people will open their eyes more that these "beauty" standards in the Philippines actually impact self-worth and the daily lives of people!
Depende kaai kung anong beauty standard ang pinaguusapan physical or ugali?
Nakakatawa magbasa ng comments dito. Ang dami namimiss yung point. If you're born with a natural lighter skin tone, hindi namang sinasabing magpaka tan ka para lang masabing proud ka maging Pinoy. If you're morena tapos gusto mo magpaputi, wala namang pumipigil sa'yo and hindi naman sa lahat ng pagkakataon, di ka na proud maging Pinoy kaya ka nagpaputi. The point here is yung na establish na beauty standards sa country natin na deeply rooted sa colonization. Dahil sa beauty standards na 'to, nagkakaroon ng unfairness when it comes to situations like for example, sa mga customer-facing na trabaho (example sales clerk). Madalas, yung mapuputi ang napipili kasi kapag sinabing maputi, naeequate siya sa "makinis", "presentable", "maganda" wherein you can be morena and also "makinis", "presentable", "maganda". It's the unfair mindset and standard ng society natin ang issue dito, in my opinion. Dagdag mo na mga kapitalista na tinatake advantage ang mindset na 'to hahaha. Sana we can have a society that looks past these skin tone differences and more acceptance + equal opportunity regardless of skin color. On the brighter side, agree ako kay kuya na more open yung generation natin (I guess millenial) sa diverse beauty standards. I also agree with ateng lumaki sa UK na humans will always want something that they don't have.
Bow. Dami ko sinabi. 😂 Love yourself. Be proud what your mama gave you. 💜
"Kahit maganda kana kung hindi ka maputi parang maykulang sayo☹️ yun yung nafefeel ko"
i'm super insecure kase i gained weight over the holidays and my friends always point out na i'm fat na, even though i'm the just slightly above the average weight. everyday they'd say "taba taba mo na, may bilbil ka na." this caused me to eat less and at times even not even eat at all :(
I don’t live in the Philippines but I am Filipina. Even though I live in a totally different country, those beauty standards are still very present within the Filipino community here. It’s sad to see that things have not changed and the “whitening/bleaching” of the skin industry is growing instead of diminishing
Every country in the world has their own standards of beauty. Unfortunately due to patriarchal colonization still affecting the entire world, each persons inherent beauty and worth is not fully appreciated, but instead scaled and measured by a toxic and dysfunctional system. Every person in this video is beautiful inside and out! Sending ❤ and respect from the States
CONGRATS for 100k subs!! this channel deserve more than that number!!!
The girl with the round glasses uggh im dying ❤️😭
Love that... “I look tan all year round”...
I think that it is absolutely fine if someone wanna be white as long as they're comfortable and happy about it then it's alright... also i think whether you're tanned or white you're still beautiful in your way.. and being tanned is not "better" than being white and opposite both are beautiful
Girlie with the glasses, your hair is GORGEOUS! It’s just like mine (except I’m blonde). I have so much kinmanship with curly haired friends because we go **through it** but curly hair is so pretty and compliments your face so well! I hope you have someone to hype you irl
We sometimes forget that we have the three standards, the Chinita, the Morena & the Mestiza. But I guess the most common one is the Mestiza
Tama po. Pero ang normative standard natin yong pagiging maputi talaga.. only those idealistic people lang would appreciate the morena look
@@emmanuel2333 e ganun tlga kanya2x taste yan...
I moved to New Jersey from Mindanao 10 years ago and relate to the Filipina from London a lot. It is refreshing to see these types of videos that arise for filipinos to watch and start conversations like these. You got a new subscriber here! and recommending to my friends and family here. please do more of these videos!
I’m fair skinned and have straight silky hair but I still got bullied because I was pimply and chubby. I got super insecure every-time I read magazines or watch tv
the guy with a safari shirt is so cute and attractive
One thing about being brown though is the sun doesn't hurt that much hehehe melanin powers
basta feel ko maganda ako, maganda ang mga tao sa paningin ko, maganda din ang naglalait sa akin, mga taong nanglalait sa inyo. problema na nila yun kung pangit ang paningin nila. maganda tayong lahat!
Lately I realized that most of the beauty cams filter has whitening effect, I tried to look for a filter that will not lighten my skin so that I can show off my Morena skin. Sadly, there isn’t.
Don't filter. Just use the regular camera and edit a little with Facetune (if you wish lang). The app doesn't lighten dark skin, just teeth if you choose.

the girl with the glasses and curly hair - GIRLLLLL, your hair is so pretty!! si ategirl british, i LOVE her vibe, she's just owning the fck out of everything. i wish their IG handles are also shared if they want, i want to connect with these folks!
Straight hair can get really boring tho. Most here just want straight hair since its easier to handle in the tropical weather. Plus I noticed some Pinoys wanting morena skin or at least praising it especially if the person has clear skin
"There's beauty in diversity"
All people has their own attributes. Minsan talaga tayong mga tao lang ang nagpapahirap ng buhay natin.
