The overall gist of the word is now ingrained in our culture and psychology and what we do with that information defines how we really look at “mestizx ” and “morenx”.
Too late for this. :'(( But, still, look at now, many of us admire you for having a Morena skin and being proud of it, plus the way you speak your thoughts is very admirable, Miss Ayn. 😘
The thing is, people start looking bad not because of how the bodies naturally looks like. It’s their fashion style. They choose fashion that doesn’t fit them, which makes them look stupid. They should pick styles that fit them so they look pretty.
the amount of backhanded compliments morenas get are so crazy e.g. "you're kinda dark but you're still pretty" or "you'd be so pretty if you were lighter skinned". people are so rude sometimes like can't a darker skinned person be dark AND pretty? we should learn to appreciate all types of skin tones.
@@chrislopez218 people can have their own opinion on what they find beautiful, but when their opinion has roots of colourism and racism, then that's when they should learn to broaden their horizon and examine the faults in their perspective on beauty.

I’ve always been a proud morena. But to be honest there aren’t much beauty products that accommodate our color. I’m glad that there’s Sunnies that has developed make ups that really flatters our skin color. I’m also glad that artists such as Nadine, Kathryn and Isabelle Daza are getting really popular. @@Jos8643 Peace! That's a wonderful question 😊 Nationality isn't a factor because all Muslims abide under the Shariah Law which states that a marriage (concept of dating is not allowed in Islam) between a believer and a non-believer is not valid in the eyes of Allah BUT the civil code of the Philippines recognizes marriage with or without solemnity between two Filipinos.
It really depends on the person's stand on that matter and his/her level of adherence to the religion. Just like a Catholic choosing to do this or that even if the church advises otherwise

That's the traditional definition. But words can evolve into varieties of meaning though time. Like the term "Lumaspag", which traditionally means "to rape" but now can be used to express being "Exhausted" like "Laspag na ang katawan ko sa kakatrabaho".
@@arknghel9081 I agree with the language evolution thing, but I think even today the term "mestiza" still exclusively refers to someone who inherently looks half European, which the woman in this video definitely isn't. White skinned Pinay looking women have the tendency to be called "maputi" and nothing more.
@@ClapBoomBoom In Filipino subject when we were in high school, there is a term called jargon in which a definition of single word may vary according to the people who will use that word. There is also a thing called "colloquial" refering to an informal conversation that can expectedly use slang words or borrowed words intended to approach a different meaning. So yeah, you can be playful with words. Aside from that, I don't think the term Meztisa or Mistisa is still exclusively refers or related to Spaniards/Europeans alone. If you are going to ask people outside about the term meztisa/mistisa/mestisa, you'll majority get an answer related to skin color so long as it is now more socially accepted by the people.
I wish Filipinas would accept themselves for who they are, especially the morena girls. I wish we didn't have to want Euro-centric features. Seeing all these celebrities in the Philippines get nose jobs makes me so sad ): I know it's their body and their choice but i wish they saw the beauty in what they already had
I’ve heard people tell me: “kung maganda ang isang morena mas gaganda siya pag maputi siya” “pero yung mga mapuputi, minsan maganda lang sila dahil maputi sila. papanget sila pag maitim sila” basically still means that being fair is more attractive. even if people still spread awareness about how beautiful being morena is, unfortunately at the end of the day fair skinned people still have the advantage 🤷🏻♀️ (unless ofc ur morena with lahi)
Mestiza is different from mestiza skin. Mestiza means a woman of mixed racial and ethnic ancestry while Mestiza skin means girl with paler skin, maybe dark to light brown hair, relatively larger eyes, overall looks like she's half Filipino and half western, has some spanish or european physical attributes and features. *An Atheist and a Catholic meet.* Would love to hear insights about this because religion is a controversial topic here in the Philippines. PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPENNNN
Opo, kailangan talaga😢. Since dito sa Pilipinas may misconception pa rin na kapag Atheist ka masama ka nang tao (na kasalanan yung hindi ka naniniwala sa diyos or any kind of religion). You will be questioned if ever na magsabi ka sa preference mo in terms of religious belief.
I like this topic! I am an Atheist and I always get bad impression with people once they found out, yung parang kampon kana ni Satanas kapag hindi ka naniniwala sa religion, wherein I don't even believe with the counterpart. Madalas hindi na ako kinakausap ng mga kaibigan ko once they found out. Take note: mga friends ko to ng ilang taon ha. To be honest, mas knowledgeable pa kami sa mga religious. I have read the bible several times. I have been to a Christian and Catholic school all my life. Kaya ewan ko bakit nila sinasabi madalas na wala lang akong alam sa religion o kulang lang knowledge ko kaya hindi ako naniniwala.
I’m Mexican and I married a Filipino. We went to Philippines last year to meet my in-laws and my experience wasn’t bad but a little strange. In public I would get stared at for my light skin tone or someone would compliment my eyebrows. (I have very sparse eyebrows so I have to use eyebrow pencil lol ) One day I was walking with my husband at a department store and a skin care seller stopped me and ask if I was interested in buying a beauty cream for my skin and being a foreigner in Philippines I already experienced retail workers pushing expensive products my way so I told her I wasn’t interested and then she asked me if I was Mestiza and my husband intervened and said “she’s Mexican” Technically I am a Mestiza coz Mexico uses the term too. I have mostly Spanish blood and more then a quarter indigenous American (Native American) Philippines and Mexico have same history with Spanish colonizers. My husband says he has some Spanish ancestry and I believe it coz I met his father side of family and a few look like they can pass for Mexican if they spoke Spanish hehe 😉 it was really nice meeting them I didn’t feel so much like an outsider when I was around his family because I’m from a different culture. I would love to go back to Philippines when the pandemic is over 💕
ate ayn is so inspirational. she gave a talk in our school once and I felt encouraged to flaunt my tan skin. Beauty does not lie in skin color. It's in who you are and how you connect with people.
I have a light skin tone. Every day, I encounter people that look at me and compare their skin tone to mine. Even some of them are children. The people around also say that they don't want to be beside me because they feel insecure. It saddens me because I felt like I'm crushing their confidence. And I don't know how to respond to make them feel empowered because I might sound insensitive. I just hope we can get rid of this absurd beauty standard in the future.
Growing up im so insecure of my skin color cos my mom is in the mestiza side while my dad is moreno. So i got my color from my dad. Mestizo/a is a person of mixed racial/ethnic background, especially of Hispanic, American, European descents. Clearly, she's not a mestiza and is probably a Filipina of Chinese descent. My father's side is pure Chinese, my mom's side is 1/4 Chinese and 3/4 Spanish. My mom and I are light-skinned, our skin is white like milk; however, we never call ourselves "mestiza". We are FILIPINAS! Period. I hate this collonial mentality! When people put way too much emphasis on a person's skin color and judge them based on that. We're all human beings! True. No matter kung pale ka or tan, someone's always going to hate. When I was a kid I was much darker, the kids in my school were all very pale and I felt like pinagdidirihan ako. When I got older I had depression and anxiety (not because of the skin color issue, but just my life in general) I spent less time outside, so I became pale. I also experienced bullying. People hated on me a lot, made fun of me, parang multo daw ako or wala akong k magkadepression kasi maputi ako. I would overhear women in public, strangers, just say "hindi naman yan maganda, maputi lang". People who didn't even know me would avoid me already, look down or look away from me. I felt like people would instantly decide they hate me whenever they saw me, so now I distance myself from others and avoid meeting with friends in person. I know that Morena people were discrimated upon before, so I understand that people are calling for the opposite now. I just wish we didn't have to do it at the cost of others.

Teachers even, "you could look beautiful if you are fairer".
Growing up as a morena, my Mom was even the one who encourages me to use whitening lotions and stuff, since I don't like using product much because I am really sweaty... I didn't follow her. In elementary I didn't really care much about my color because no one gives a damn but when I got in to high school, my friends, school mates or classmates would always tease me and call me like nognog, sunog, negra just because my skin is tan. I was so insecure back then, LIKE SUPER... SOBRANG NAEMPHASIZE LAHAT NG INSECURITIES KO, SCARS, SKIN COLOR, DARK SPOTS BUT AS I GOT MYSELF INTO WATCHING RUclips VIDEOS AND SEEING WESTERNERS USE TANNING PRODUCTS JUST TO ACHIEVE THE COLOR I HAVE, i started to become more appreciative of my skin color and I realized, I was punishing myself while I was so insecure about it because whatever others say, they don't get to be disturbed by my color, only myself has a say about it because I am the one who is going to live with my skin, my body and myself for lifetime and forever.
The Morena beauty now is being envyed by everyone unlike before. The appreciation started when the western (American) shows started to expose more about the tan beauty and as y'all know Filipinos were born to love the American influence.

I have light skin. Pero I love tanning. The tan glow gives me j-lo glow, thalia glow... Mukhang Buhay glow. I am naturally RED. Light skin pero red.. I mottled easily too so mukhang may sakit. Tanning slightly makes it less visible..esp redness. So sa mga Morena, you are so blessed!! Sa mga mestiza, blessed prin pero mas kita redness. Both are beautiful... pero gone are the days mukhang mayaman maputi. Coz Kardashians, Jlo, Hwasa .. Latina Celebrities are changing the trend. Season season lang... kaya either IN for me.. pero If i have to use aggressive methods to make myself Tan... then no. Kung tanning lotion lang and no adverse effect then sige.
I'm anemic since 6 y/o and it really affected my life, I am always excused in my PE classes, get tired often and even nosebleed if I overexert myself, I have irregular periods and it definitely affected my skin color. I am really pale and my peers or even the adults complimented my skin color and to be honest I take that as an insult, like they're telling me being anemic is a blessing in disguise. Honey, NO! It sucks cause I've been struggling to live a healthy life and do more things than being stucked in a cycle.
when i was a kid, i often get comments like how dark my skin was and all that so i was kinda obsessed to lighten my skin. But then, no effect and just a waste of money. Growing up, i managed to love my color and never mind what other people will say because we will get a backhanded compliment whatever our skin are.
I used to be bullied for my skin color when I was a kid. I never wore bright colors and envied my fair-skinned classmate whom people treated better, and who always got voted muse. Until noong grade 4 we learned about melanin in Science and I understood how completely natural it is for people to have different skin colors. I also learned that my bully lost his power when I felt proud of my skin. bully: Negra! me: Hindi ako negra, marami lang akong melanin! Alam mo ba 'yung melanin? bully: Yabang mo ah porke matalino ka! Never na niya akong binully uli.
Ive lived my entire life in Europe but the mentality between filipinos has always been the same. Tan skin is always looked down upon and I never understood why. Especially during the summer months when I get extra tan, I get the “Ang itim itim mo na” typa talk like whyyy the fuck are we judging our kin? Being Moreno/Morena is part of our asian identity yet...ugh yet....
Mostly people around me brags about being white. It seems that they had right to bully you with your color. I was pressured then to try a whitening products. And effectively but not fully obtained a fairer skin. I thought they will stop bullying me about my skin color but they're not, attacking you with your other imperfections was next. So I realized that it's really up to you to become a better person and not what others dictate you to do with your own life.
I’m 16 and morena and I’ve always felt insecure about my skin. Discoloration is more prominent on darker skin and some colors like white (mentioned in the video) really just don’t look good on me. I really wanna have lighter skin 🥺
When you grow older you’ll realize how beautiful morena skin is. I used to hate being morena because I was bullied from for it. I also avoided wearing white because I was told many times that it wouldn’t look good on me. Now, I wouldn’t trade my skin for the world. People in the west pay so much for fake tans; we have it naturally. The color of our skin doesn’t dictate who we are as a person. We all have flaws and we should learn to accept them. Yes discoloration is more prominent on morenas, but those with light skin have flaws as well. Self love is the key bb girl. You’ll realize how beautiful you are when you start accepting and embracing yourself 🤍

Oh hey I'm 16 and I want to be fair skinned too lol I used to be one but then I went to school and the sun burned my skin now I'm stuck with this brown color that doesn't even compliment my face 😼
I am morena but my mom is very light skin, but she never made me feel ugly for it. She always told me that my brown skin was beautiful and people pay to get my skin tone through tanning . Only as I got older and saw ads and beauty standard in Asia that I realized inwas "dark" but thankfully to her, as a child and teen 8 didn't have to grow up with that mentality even though I am fully aware of Asia's beauty standard.
It's weird cuz I'm a Filipino living in Canada, I love my tan skin, to me both these women have beautiful tan skin, it's such a small difference in comparison to the different complexion you can find all over the world. It's unfortunate that this standard still exists
I've always been insecure with my "fair skin". Madalas masabihan ng "kulay lang nagdala" or "maputi ka kasi kaya...". Kaya kapag nasa labas ako, hindi na ako nagpapayong talaga HAHAHAHA para umitim ako. I wanted to be tan. May konting tan minsan, pero after a few days, wala rin. Ngayong time na bawal lumabas ng bahay, nasabihan na akong "kulay papel" (ang o.a. ng reactions nila) nung mga kaibigan kong lagpas 1 year ko nang di nakikita. Oks lang ako HAHAHAHA. Wala, skl. Nilalabas ko lang hinanakit ko. And to anyone na nagbabasa nito, remember that skin colour/tone (or whatever you call it) doesn't define beauty. We're all beautiful no matter what shape, size, or colour you are.
I actually don't understand why do people even say that having darker skin affect the beauty of a person. The constant reminder to people that your skin makes you ugly creates insecurities. Kung mapapansin niyo all the insecurities she had started when she was kid. As a kid i was called like this like that. When i was a kid i was told not ti wear white. You know we have to make every kid feel beautiful regardless of the color of their skin.
I always thought that the word “mestiza” was used so much on light skinned people that it lost its meaning. Mestiza is a word for mixed race and light skinned. I read about it in noli me tangere and one of the people who are mestiza there was Maria Clara, daughter of a filipina and an espanyol.
Mestiza Meaning according to dictionary and spanish : a woman of mixed racial or ethnic ancestry, especially, in Latin America, of mixed American Indian and European descent or, in the Philippines, of mixed native and foreign descent.

Ang mestiza ay half Spanish half Filipino(basically Basta mukha kang espnayol). It’s not just u have a whiter skin tone your a “mestiza”.
That's the traditional definition. But words can evolve into varieties of meaning though time. Like the term "Lumaspag", which traditionally means "to rape" but now can be used to express being "Exhausted" like "Laspag na ang katawan ko sa kakatrabaho".
Its 2017 kada palit dekada nag iibang meaning ng mga salita lol kaya nga may follow up parati yung mga meaning of word
@@arknghel9081 I agree with the language evolution thing, but I think even today the term "mestiza" still exclusively refers to someone who inherently looks half European, which the woman in this video definitely isn't. White skinned Pinay looking women have the tendency to be called "maputi" and nothing more.
@@ClapBoomBoom
In Filipino subject when we were in high school, there is a term called jargon in which a definition of single word may vary according to the people who will use that word.

(I have very sparse eyebrows so I have to use eyebrow pencil lol )
One day I was walking with my husband at a department store and a skin care seller stopped me and ask if I was interested in buying a beauty cream for my skin and being a foreigner in Philippines I already experienced retail workers pushing expensive products my way so I told her I wasn’t interested and then she asked me if I was Mestiza and my husband intervened and said “she’s Mexican”
Technically I am a Mestiza coz Mexico uses the term too.
I have mostly Spanish blood and more then a quarter indigenous American (Native American)
Philippines and Mexico have same history with Spanish colonizers.

I just wish we didn't have to do it at the cost of others.

it took a toll in my confidence.

Until noong grade 4 we learned about melanin in Science and I understood how completely natural it is for people to have different skin colors. I also learned that my bully lost his power when I felt proud of my skin.

bully: Yabang mo ah porke matalino ka!
Never na niya akong binully uli.

Ive lived my entire life in Europe but the mentality between filipinos has always been the same. Tan skin is always looked down upon and I never understood why.

I really wanna have lighter skin 🥺
u are very pretty ☺️ morena are very attractive 💗 don't be insecure to yourself. (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
I'm mestiza yet i want to be morena kasi nung bata ako morena ako pero my lolo is mestizo and my mom so nakuha ko super ganda ng kutis ko nung morena pa ko kahit magsilabas ako lagi i have that goldy light on my skin pero now wala na, I do maintain my skin tone bcs I have sun allergy like that but i really obsessed with morenas
Oh hey I'm 16 and I want to be fair skinned too lol I used to be one but then I went to school and the sun burned my skin now I'm stuck with this brown color that doesn't even compliment my face 😼
Im pale but im attracted to a morena girl in my school before i mean regardless of color theres still someone will find you attractive 💙
You know we have to make every kid feel beautiful regardless of the color of their skin.
i used to get insecure too nung bata pa aq now i’m 17 and i’m accepting the fact na i’m morena❤️
I always thought that the word “mestiza” was used so much on light skinned people that it lost its meaning. Mestiza is a word for mixed race and light skinned. I read about it in noli me tangere and one of the people who are mestiza there was Maria Clara, daughter of a filipina and an espanyol.
Grabe! I'm a huge fan of ate AYN sa tiktok since last year's quarantine, haven't knew na she was engaged pala huhu
I don't really care if ur maputi or morena ang importante makinis.
