Hi mate thank you and thanks for reaching out. I’m not at all into chrome or flash stuff. I like the standard look. I can’t afford chrome either 🤣. I have plenty of content involving my truck’s so go back through and check them out. Mostly Detroit power but have others also
I used to drive one of those when I first left school in 1966, had a Baker angle blade and a Carco model HS winch on it. Still driving dozers full-time 57 yrs later, much easier theses days with diff steer, A/C cab and GPS for to assist with machine control.
Hi Ross, that’s good mate. She still would of been an old machine then. Not sure of the blade make apart from what you mentioned in the last comment. My dad is the same. Started when he was at school and still on them now. He’s 69. Says he has 2-3 years left.
I think dad was having a great time . That old girl still has a lot of life in her. Best place for her retirement is Steve's place down under . 👌👍👍👍🇦🇺😎
Hi Steven. Yes he loves old dozers. He’s been on them all his life and 69 now. Was on them even when he was at school. It does have a lot of life yet mate yes. We’ve done most we can with it but she’s still good to have in the collection here.
This HD14 reminds me of the CAT RD6 cable dozer my father occasionally used on our Idaho farm. I looked up the engine spec: it had three 5-1/4 x 8 pistons with 660 Cubic In. displacement and top 900 RPM. I remember when my father would put the blade up against a tree the tractor would never stall, it would just slip the tracks and keep pushing. One could hear every cylinder detonation. I was always impressed with such a strong machine.
Hi mate thanks for the comment. They were great old machines these old dozers. Caterpillar made excellent dozers and still do. A mate of mine has a few RD6 machines in different arrangements, all restored nicely.
Steve your dad is like a kid in a candy store. Having a ball. She can still push a good blade full. Some better tracks and some tlc and be a front line machine again. Awesome
Hi mate. Yes it is good to give it a run. He knows what he’s doing on dozers. He. Was on them before he left school. This one is a handful but still made it work nicely
Great to see the old HD14 up and working. It was some of the best technology of the time but was quickly superseded by the next generation of AC dozers. When you get the better undercarrage on and clutch adjusted it should serve you well for the amount you use it. I'm surprised how the Detroit started after sitting so long, it must be a good one. Keep up the good videos.
Hi mate. Yes it was a big machine in it’s time but was updated fairly quickly from what I believe. Still good to preserve it and use it once in a while. I will hopefully one day get the tracks on it but it’s not priority at the moment. Clutch is hopefully just an adjustment. It’s always started good, even after sitting years like this. It must be in good condition still. Plenty of videos to come yet
Awesome piece of art and history brother !!! Awesome morning brother from another country great to see yall again doing what yall do !!! The Ole gal still has alot of life in her it brings back old memories for me lol !! Hope yall have an awesome day !!! Still got that awesome rumble lol !!!
Hi brother from another country 😅😅. Great to hear from you mate. She still has plenty of go left in her yet indeed. I hope those memories are good that she brought back. Have a great week mate
Great dozer Steve! You get a full body workout while you're gettin the job done. As a famous guy once said "you can do a lot more with a dozer and a kind word than a kind word alone." I knew you had a great collection there but I didn't know you had a submarine until I saw that periscope pokin up at 15:15! 8^) Cheers to you and your Dad and Jeffery!
Gday mate. You sure do get a workout. That’s really good advice about the kind word. I had to go back and watch the video again to see what you meant about the periscope 🤣🤣, amazing stuff. Thanks as always Jeff
Sure wish you had my 13' rake that I built to push with my Allis Chalmers HD-5. It was great at pushing up large amount of material with minimum dirt for easy burn and minimal cleanup after. 🤠👌
Hi mate. I sure wish I had it when we first cleaned the place after I bought it. It was really overgrown and let go to far. I brought D6R home and dad got stuck into the place with that. Came up beautiful. I wish I had the HD5 also😅. Stick rake are a brilliant thing.
Cheers for another mint video of an old legend working....and old bulldozer😜🍻 Good timing cos I'd just finished watching another old Allis Chalmers video posted a few days ago. I dread to think how many wriggly bastards are in that brush pile. What's the go?, a snake Hotel then we full, burn it down!😄
Thank you partner. Sorry for the late reply. Yes he certainly is a legend. He’s been on them since at school and still doing it today on modern ones at 69 years old. There’s lots of wriggly bastards in there I’m sure, but they will sneak out before it gets too hot😅😅
@@stevesplacedownunder No worries about the reply mate, but with your load on, I appreciate you coming back.🍺👍🏻 School age to 69 is a mint innings. How much of a raconteur is he?. I reckon a video of him telling dozer stories, tips and trick over snacks would make a canny video. Especially cable dozer techniques before the old skillsets are lost.
I doubt he would do that. He doesn’t say much when I film. He’s not one to brag either and I think that’s how it would feel to talk about it. There wasn’t a lot of cable dozer work. Mainly early hydraulic stuff. Even the old trucks he carted them around on was a job in itself. Had his own truck and a cat d6 and would build dams and clear land or whatever was needed
@@stevesplacedownunder Fair1 Marra, I've noticed the legend's quiet in the clips and assumed he's of the temperament you described. I'll bet with his lorry at the end of the day you knew you'd done some yakka. Especially if it's a low loader where you disconnected the bogies to get the bed low. Gudday Steve , Love the video mate . My dad had a HD7 with the same winch set up and back in the day wen he was working it all the time he extended the winch control lever to level with the front of the seat mate way more user friendly. Keep the videos coming,I'm looking forward to one on the HD7
Gday mate that’s great. It would of been a very similar machine to the HD7 here. It has a winch on it also. It certainly would be more user friendly that way. There’s a video coming on a start up of that one really soon
Prepperdozer 😁 Simple, few tools (admittedly big, really heavy tools) required to keep it fettled and it’ll run on filtered chip fat 😆 Got yourself a Deusy of a dozer there Steve mate 😎🤟🏼
Steve, Jim Rioux from Connecticut. This Allis reminds me of the dozens used in America that caused our dust bowls. Why is this Detroit so quiet and do you know the weight of your machine. Maybe old but if you need a job done it still does it. Needs some serious undercarriage work but still goes. Nice to see the machine working instead of a will it start. Amazing what they did without hydraulics. Be good mate. Jim
Hi Jim. What do you mean by dust bowl mate? I would say it’s quiet because its derated in power. In a truck they are rated at 238hp but that much power wouldn’t be needed here so probably smaller injectors and possibly retarded timing. It has a straight through exhaust and still no noise whatsoever. It weighs 14 tons, hence the 14 in HD14, plus blade and the pcu equipment so maybe 15-16 tons all up. It is good to do a working video Jim yes. Great to use them after sitting around. Thanks mate
@@stevesplacedownundersteve, what I meant by the dust bowl in the early 30s was they used those machines to deeply plow up the original grasslands of the prairie, thus having nothing to hold the soil down when the winds came, they created massive dust bowls and all the good planting soil was blown away. Jim from Connecticut
Yes mate it’s a lot of work to angle it. Not something we’ve ever needed to do here. I brought a D6R home when I bought the place to do all the detailed work.
Another great vid', Steve! I love watching the ol' 2 strokes do their thing!! I noticed that there is a stack of pulleys mounted above the winch's on the back. We used to have an Inter' TD14 cable blade that we picked up from just over the Vic boarder (Jingelic, I think?) when I was about 16, it also had the same 'pulley block' assembly on the back. Do you have any idea what they were used for? I've been dying to know for almost 40 years, now! Ha ha!!
The pulleys act as a fairlead when towing a cable scraper. One sheave will swing side to side to feed cable evenly on cable control unit drum. Then the cable threads thru second sheave which pivots side to side to guide cable back to scraper. I’ll do a more in depth video on how it all works when I set up one of my towed scrapers this summer.
Hi mate, we haven’t had a lot this year really but had some big floods the last few years which didn’t really affect my place though. We’ve had enough to keep it green but that’s about it. Had a lot of frosts too which has dried the lice out and we are heading into summer and a dry spell also which will change how everything looks
@@stevesplacedownunder Where abouts are you? I'm in Albany west OZ . My old girls cab has all but rusted off lol. Drive train is perfect ,brakes etc and full rego. Been sniffing around for a cab :-)
Didn't take much to get it running. How long had it been sitting? Though most old Detroit engines start up fairly easily anyway, unless there's a major issue.
You a legend old school rules mate great to see it a work again

Holy what a beautiful collection you have man!!! I love to see the real working trucks with not alot of chrome and alot of personality!
