yeah my little brother gave me shit over liking disco while he was getting into Metallica. It took me a few years later before I warmed up to metallica, but I like everything from barbara streisand to ghost.
Dave Mustaine is a born-again Christian. He's a real sweetheart in my book. Two years ago, a few months after my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer, my husband received a personal video birthday message (like from right in Dave's house!). It was somehow arranged by our nephew. Anyway, Dave wished my Johnny a happy birthday and gave him words of encouragement regarding his cancer fight. The video was several minutes long. My husband was blown away as he had been a Megadeth fan for many years. My Johnny passed away on July 17th and I recently found the video saved on his computer. It meant so much to both of us.
Thank you for sharing you story. I'm sorry for your loss, but maybe you should think about posting that video, because Dave himself just went through chemo last year, for throat cancer, and immediately after finishing, he recorded the sick, the dying and the dead. His vocals are horrible, but the reason he did his own vocals, is so he could never be kicked out of the band again. Infact, he made it so every other piece of the band could be changed and replaced, but not his part. Dave also owns a brewery and a winery down in Nashville. When he's not on tour, he will grab the guys and stop in really small bars and perform under the name Vic and the rattleheads!
Dave Mustaine's voice is an acquired taste but he wasn't born a singer. He was the original lead guitarist in the original Metallica line-up at the beginning of the 80's and he was fired just before the band entered the studio to record their debut album because of drug abuse and constant fights with the other members of the band. So he essentially said: f++k off you idiots I will create my own band. Megadeth was born and his unique blend of speed and thrash metal, enriched with meaningful lyrics and crazy guitar solos*, conquered the hearts of many metal aficionados of that golden era including the young myself who always cherished Megadeth above Metallica. Over the years Mustaine became more conservative even though he confessed that he often found himself voting for the lesser of two evils. He appeared quite a few times as a guest in Alex Jones' "Info Wars" podcast and while I don't necessarily agree with everything he says I recognize him to be much more based than the vast majority of his colleagues. *The "Tornado of souls" solo played by Marty Friedman is considered by many worthy a spot in the top three most iconic guitar solos in metal history (together with Eddie Van Halen's "Eruption" and Randy Rhoads' "Crazy Train".
I know it's opinion, but one of my favorite questions to ask someone I don't know well is "What singular event was both the best and worst moment in metal music?" My response after I let them ponder for a moment... "Metallica fires Dave Mustane." With him fired, we got Megadeth. Without his firing, we would have had Metallica with Mustane on guitar. Again, personal opinion and very specific question. It's fun to hear the response to said though.
I'm so happy that you're giving Megadeth some play. There is a video of this song played live in Argentina. The crowd goes crazy and I think we all agree that you'd enjoy it
@@nikihemmer1142 They were all drunks and aholes back then. James and Lars just couldn't handle Dave. Dave is 2 years older (which means something when you're 19 or 20) and had more talent. James and Lars were the "mean girls" of the band.
"Countdown to Extinction" and "Youthanasia" are probably the two albums I've listened to more than any others. I think you would love the song "Sweating Bullets" from Countdown. The verses are almost spoken word rather than singing.
For those of us who have listened to this since the early 90's....WE STILL THE REBEL MO FO'S TO THIS DAY!!!! If this song does not wake up your mind...nothin will!
Holy Wars from Megadeth is still a relevant song today. Watch it with lyrics and you'll understand. Gears of war and Amerikhastan are also really good songs.
You mentioned Dave Mustane's voice... there is an old interview with him, when he built Megadeth after the separation from Metallica, he tried to find someone else to be the lead singer, stating he thought his voice was similar to "two cat's fighting in a burlap bag", ended up taking on the role when the band couldn't find someone else to do it.
Yeah, Bush was an easy target for so many back in those days. Comedians, msm news, various bands: Megadeth, RATM for a couple of examples... and it was all good; no one shutting anyone else down over it! At least Mustane/Megadeth didn't jump on the Dem bandwagon like RATM did, at least not that I know of, or could find. If you're going to protest big gov/war policies, then protest all regimes that push them, otherwise you look like a hypocritical sellout... as Rage For the Machine looks.
While Bush Sr. might have been the most immediate inspiration, I think the song is pretty clear that this is much more universal than just one man. In fact, while the imagery is all American, I don't think they're really even saying that this is a specifically American problem, but rather applies pretty globally. As BP notes, there are some elements of a cult of personality being referenced, something that tends to be more associated (perhaps incorrectly?) with dictatorships than democracies. Certainly, America in the early 1990's isn't the only time/place where people have "danced like marionettes, swaying to the symphony of destruction".
Megadeth is AMAZING live. I highly suggest going even if you're just learning about them. I took my friend to her first metal concert and it was megadeth she had the best time
Megadeth is known for their political lyrics and ive seen them several times live and i absolutely LOVE dave mustaine and Megadeth im A PROUD gen Xer so I remember everything 😊

Actually, if you step back and look at it through the wider panorama view, the American public has overwhelmingly been an anti-war populace historically. In the 20th century, we didn't get involved in the two world wars until late. Until we absolutely had to. We didn't join WW1 until the last year (1918), and we repeated it in the European theater of WW2 by joining in June 1944 and completing it in May 1945. We were so anti-war afterwards that they had to implement the draft for Korea and Vietnam because nobody wanted to fight either war. It was presumed the draft would have to be reinstated in 1991 in Kuwait for Desert Storm, but the Air Force & the first armored USMC divisions kicked Iraq's ass so quickly that it wasn't needed. The only time you saw a genuine grassroots fervor for war was in the years following 9/11, but that quickly evaporated as soon as they bungled the 2003 invasion of Iraq searching for WMD. In the grand scheme of things, America has been a decidedly anti-war population. Which is typical of nations that flourish. You only hear the war drums beating in the nations that were defeated and want revenge, or struggling economies where you restore national pride through conquest. A la, what we're seeing with Russia presently. They want to regain the superpower status they had during the Cold War, and the economy is so stagnant that careers in the military become more attractive than mining coal and occupying assembly lines in old fashioned factories where automation doesn't exist and everything has to be assembled manually by hand.
This is one of the few radio friendly songs by them. It's a go for Lucretia. This is really really mild for these Thrash Masters. MEGADETH=Guitar Supremacy. Still getting down hard and on tour.
"You're acting like a robot.. Its metal brain corrodes." Basically describing an NPC.. And there's NPC's on both sides. In previous years you mainly saw them on the left, but now you're starting to see them more prominently on the right. I knew it would eventually happen.
I saw Megadeth in Oct 2001. When they came out for the encore, they all had American flag guitars and bass drum and a huge 50ft flag behind the stage. Dave said: “to all the marines in audience and for all the civilians, staying home and being scared is what the terrorists want, well f*ck that and f*ck them. And one more thing , these MFers have the audacity to call a holy war one us?!” Then they played that to end the show, largest and roughest mosh pit I’ve ever seen and I have been to 100’s of metal shows. This happened right after 9/11 and it was next door to a Marine Corps base. So there were 20,000 Marines there and it was an all day festival with plenty of cheap beer…. Imagine how you think that went

They want to regain the superpower status they had during the Cold War, and the economy is so stagnant that careers in the military become more attractive than mining coal and occupying assembly lines in old fashioned factories where automation doesn't exist and everything has to be assembled manually by hand.
Had to stop in and see this one you’re in for a ride
LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL "HI REN" AND "Guilty Concious"! MEGADEATH "SWEATING BULLETS"! ❤
EMINEM AND REN HAD TO OF HEARD THIS SHIT! ❤😂😂
Dave delivered the words so clear......
This is one of the few radio friendly songs by them. It's a go for Lucretia. This is really really mild for these Thrash Masters. MEGADETH=Guitar Supremacy. Still getting down hard and on tour.
No 1 song on my Spotify tunes bro
Thanks for sharing and enjoying the love
This is a bad ass song! I grew up with Megadeth.Glad you're getting to hear it.
Funny it never sounds low at my house

This was ahead of its time fits right now about one specific man!
Ditto on everything you said BP!!! I love Megadeth's music and messages!! 🤘🏼
Countdown to Extinction is one of my favorite all-time albums 1992.
One of my favorite metal bands! 🤘🏼
Let's Go!!!!
Not alot of Metal I really get into; but this... This is one of the greats of music right here.. Glad you found it.
Now go watch the live version from Argentina and you'll get chills....it's incredible
A tale of the times is Monster by Steppenwolf. The lyrics could have been written today. Then there is Ozzy and War Pigs. The beat goes on! ✌
"You're acting like a robot.. Its metal brain corrodes."
Basically describing an NPC.. And there's NPC's on both sides. In previous years you mainly saw them on the left, but now you're starting to see them more prominently on the right.
I knew it would eventually happen.
Just wanted to say I respect and enjoy your reactions.
Live Guitar Center performance of this is fire
The world is catching on and catching up \m/
\m/ METAL FINGERS UP (Grandma is headbanging all this wild red hair again!)
CANT BELIEVE THAT YOU NEVER HEARD THIS! 😂😂😂❤❤
Symphony was released in 1992. It has stood the test of time.
in terms of the sound quality, you must remember that the video was done in 1992, where as the song itself has been remastered in the other video
🤘😎 2:01 One of my favorite songs from this great band 💯🔥
I saw Megadeth in Oct 2001. When they came out for the encore, they all had American flag guitars and bass drum and a huge 50ft flag behind the stage. Dave said:
“to all the marines in audience and for all the civilians, staying home and being scared is what the terrorists want, well f*ck that and f*ck them. And one more thing , these MFers have the audacity to call a holy war one us?!”
Then they played that to end the show, largest and roughest mosh pit I’ve ever seen and I have been to 100’s of metal shows. This happened right after 9/11 and it was next door to a Marine Corps base. So there were 20,000 Marines there and it was an all day festival with plenty of cheap beer…. Imagine how you think that went
You nailed it on the head. You saw exactly what Dave Mustaine was trying to say. Mind blowing fact, Dave Mustaine was originally in Metallica.
