As a 22 year old rider, I appreciate your comments about price accessibility. I think one of the reasons why there's so few young people in this niche is that it seems so expensive from the outside. Those of us who are already into it know that it can be done cheaply but on the surface all you see are these $15k+ bikes with an additional $5k in luggage and farkles.

After watching Dave’s video I was inspired to take one for a test ride at a dealer today . I have ridden for over 50 years and I must say this little bike has a lot of bang for buck , I was very surprised how capable and such a torquey little motor . Dave’s review is spot on and the quality of the build is excellent. I think the big OEMs will be sitting up and taking notice of this bike . It’s very lightweight and carries the weight down really low , in my humble opinion and experience I reckon it’s a 9/10 straight out of the box 5 stars 🌟

I have owned mine in the UK for a few weeks now and absolutely love it, I sold my Tenere World Raid as it was just too heavy for me, the 450MT is all the fun but without the weight, the only thing I have done is fit a 15t front sprocket as riding to Wales is much more relaxed and I am riding mainly fire roads, still on the original tyres but they will change as winter draws in. I was lucky to see Dave's talk at the ABR Festival, what a true legend, happy to speak and have photos taken with everyone, I hope you come back next year, but I realise it is a major trip.

Great video mate. Been looking forward to this one for a good while now! You've put it through its paces considering the limitations of those stock tires. I reckon for my weight, that suspension will be just right with the ability to adjust it. Looking forward to Clubby's build and you gents getting back out on the trails again! Yeah, I'm a bit tired of the old argument about weight. I've got the Himmy 411 and she's sitting around 203KGs (with mods, etc) and its fine on hard technical trails. The 450MT sheds about 5-8 kilos, gets more power and features. That's a win to me (excited to buy one). Its all about weight distribution and how the bike handles it. If people are worried about weight, don't ride adventure bikes and get an enduro bike. You've always been the voice of reason in motorcycle reviews. Keep doing what you are doing!

A question for those people concerned about the revs. Are you used to small capacity twins, especially if you are coming from a larger capacity bike? These bikes love to rev. I had a 300 Versys and for the first 6 months was scared to look at the tacho. 7k revs at 100kph. But I finally got used to it and realised that Kawasaki had actually got it right. I tried a larger front sprocket. It sounded right, but really killed the performance.

Very good review. I've now ordered the B&B bash plate, thanks for the recommendation. I changed the front sprocket to a 15T to reduce highway speed revs. At 6k rpm it now sits at around 110kph instead of around 100kph. And yes, initially I could feel a very slight drop (but negligible) in acceleration and torque - but a bit more twist of the throttle it's there - you don't really notice it and when off-road the torque remains just fine, I haven't had to change down a gear to compensate. I think it's worth doing the sprocket change just to reduce the highway speed revs - and with the added benefit of a smoother throttle for low-speed off-road maneuvering. Would be good for RE to provide the 450 Himi for 6 months on the same arrangement as CFMoto - a true head to head 6 months journey. Even though I think you can't go wrong with either bike.

For me the low mudguard is 10x the better look, shame they didn't do the adjustable like the T7 but hey, the only real issue with this bike i see is the fact they have built too few and are now hoping hype keeps peoples money safe until stock arrives, here in England we are talking 8mths wait....That may lose them a lot of cash

Based on your review, I can see many jumping off , one particular side of the fence, finding themselves riding into the sunset, on the Cfmoto 450mt. Apart from your upgrades, allow me to add better disc brake pads, changing to braided front brake lines, to address the front brake weakness. And, finally, maybe new rubber. I perceive this bike as small adv, what I mean: 1. fairly priced, budget friendly. 2. the minimum cc to have a decent travel speed above 100km/h (110-130km/h) and have some room if needed to overtake any vehicle on the road, 3.off road capable (suspension 200mm travel, 220cm ground clearance, 21" /18" wheels) its not dual sport and its certainly isn't enduro but its close to a dual sport on the off-road part but more capable on the on-road than a 300cc dual sport, the seat height for taller ppl sux but there the bigger seat, fuel consumption could be better, weight could be lower BUT what other options are there similar priced and in the same category? Bought mine pre-ordered. Took a leap of faith as I wanted an all round bike and LAMS compliant ( I never felt I needed my open license even when it was restricted to 250cc here in WA ). My last ten years of riding has been mainly on an enduro so I did feel the weight, but not while riding, unlike the KLR 650.
The Cfmoto add ons are very well priced. Tall seat is only $200 and has saved my bum and made me keen to ride.
I have the tall screen ( I found the standard had the air buffeting my helmet too much ). Bought a Rad guard radiator guard. Side stand wider foot, bark busters ( already broke the standard ones ). I have the up rated CFmoto bash plate ( not fitted yet ).
Still waiting on crash bars to arrive and rear brake fluid protector.
I just need to get my kms up and have the first service done then this spring I'll be camping off the bike.
So to me this will be my do most thing bike.
Thanks for the air filter info, I will at least get 2 pre-filters.

The dealer say they have first US bound bikes due in September. I'm hoping to snag a high front fender grey one and then immediately get 70% dirt/30% tires (Motoz). Thanks again for the push to action. Cheers

I rented the motorcycle during an off-road training. It is a light motorcycle, agile, beautiful finish and apparently high-quality material.
In my opinion, there are two important points of attention: long-term reliability and service intervals. For long ADV journeys, an interval of only 3000 miles/5000 kilometers is simply too short. The interval has to be at least 6000 miles/10.000 kilometers.
For the time being, I look forward to (your) long-term reviews and the reliability of the bike.

I have been really looking forward to this review. Unfortunately I missed the live(ish) premiere.
I have only ridden the 450MT on the road, and I was quite impressed.
It was stable, (really) smooth and had a wide powerband. I thought it was comfortable and well made too.
So, I have been really looking forward to your full (offroad) review.
You definitely gave it a really good/tough test!
I am even more positive about the bike now.
I thought the bike was a little snatchy down low. Apparently, that has been improved with a software update.
The front brake did need more bite. But, it has 4 piston JJuan brakes. So, it should be possible to improve them.

Good one. I bought the MT450 as an dirt capable adv bike. My fixed up Rally 300 is the dirt bike.
The 7000 rpm at 120kmh (8500 red line) is not as easily discounted by me. Taller 6th gear should have been fitted.
Yep skid plate is paper thin.
At 75 kgs, with zero preload up front, it's still stiff. Rear is great.
The front brake also has this "free, no pressure building" initial movement. Rest is great, hope it will hold up well.

@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV When removing the skid plate, I suggest u install a strap between the two metal support/mounting "frame" tubes. When removing the front bolts, the frame springs out a couple of cm. You can damage the welded on nut plates if u don't.
Also I suggest early oil change/flush. At 300 km, my oil did not look all that good. No metal, most likely clutch material.
15t front sprocket drops rpm about 450, bit yes the bike looses some acceleration/fun factor. We have 2 450s, riding back to back it's a noticeable difference.

13700kms on a Versys 650 , including riding in at least three gigantic storms around December January , not one issue , no rust , no camshaft failures .
Ridden it on backroads , mild dirt roads , mountain passes and motorways , plus city riding .
    Looks like new still.
Wonder how this 450 CF moto will be shaping up after 15000km or so?

Dave, as always a great review. Isn't it great to see a twin cylinder small capacity ADV bike - kudos to CF Moto. An earlier post commented that 'it seems the unicorn has been born'. Your reply was 'Getting close, not quite there'. What do you think CF Moto need to do to make it the Unicorn?

    • @MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV
      @MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV  3 месяца назад +1

A couple of things to make my unicorn. Imagine an R version of this. 260mm suspension back and front fully adjustable, the more sophisticated Borsch EMU 6 axis system - lean sensitive traction control - no pulsing in the front brake I mentioned, decent bashplate and soft pannier racks - drive away. I don't think that's too much to ask. Maybe this might be what KTM bring to this bike, when they finally release it. :)

I just cannot afford to waste my precious time on a brand that has anything but reliability tied to its name. Sure its a couple thousand cheaper than a Suzuki or Honda. But I would spend double its price to guarantee when I'm thousands of miles away from home that I wont find a fault.
I get why other people would give it a go but its a no from me. Hell to be completely fair I wont give the orange bikes a shake for that same reason.

I tried rotating the bars forward on my 450MT but quickly discovered you cant rotate the switch clusters to compensate for rotating the bars forward because they dont clamp on the handlebars but instead have a little plastic pin that goes into a hole on the handlebar so they are effectively fixed in place. I love the bike but taking time to getting used to the engine braking on throttle off, makes it very difficult to keep smooth in low speed traffic - I really hope somebody at some point will do a map that keeps a little bit of gas when off the throttle to smooth this out - one thing I would say though is that either im getting used to it or its getting slightly better as its getting run in (350miles of 600 atm) - great review thanks!
