Since I told you about this pencil, I found that the ferrule fell off of mine! I ended up scraping the paint off of it using an X-Acto Knife and now use it as Workshop pencil in addition to my Bare-Wood Try-Rex (Glad they have those now). On normal notebook paper, I found the Pen+Gear to be smoother and darker than a My First Ticonderoga.

Ferrule falling off is certainly not a good sign! Thanks for the recommendation, and for reporting back.

@@ma-mo I think it was just a defect since I have had very good luck with Pen+Gear pencils in the past. I find them to be better than Ticonderoga's in some cases.

Hi MAMO - I'm so glad you reviewed these! I saw these at my WalMart and didn't pick them up, but I thought maybe I would the next time I was there. I don't ever recall P+G offering a jumbo pencil like this before, so I was curious how it would perform, especially against the large Ticonderoga. Now I know! Thanks for comparing them!

I've never come across these before either. My main complaint: do they have to look so boring?

@@ma-mo They do leave something to be desired in the excitement department.

I'm going to have to agree, that newsprint is not the best medium for pencil testing. It turns every graphite grade into H and above.
I purchased a jumbo pencil to try it out, and in my limited experience I see no real difference in performance between jumbos and normals. Though I haven't even managed to wear out the point from my first sharpening. I swear that pencil has the best point retention I've ever seen.

@@DinnerForkTongue perhaps the best thing about jumbos: the "point" lasts forever. Not all that pointy but dang near permanent.
