I'm going to have to agree, that newsprint is not the best medium for pencil testing. It turns every graphite grade into H and above. I purchased a jumbo pencil to try it out, and in my limited experience I see no real difference in performance between jumbos and normals. Ah, good neighbor, another modestly superb video. It may please you to know that this very day the Great South American River is bringing me not one but twelve pencils! However, over the years I have had many commonplace books and journals, and I always seem to lose them. Or, if I don't lose them, a hurricane or tornado or fire will do them in. So, lately, I have been journaling and commonplacing with a Kindle Scribe, which is not always next to my coffe on my desk, but whose (anthopomophising an inanimate object?) entries are available to me on my phone or tablet anywhere. That doesn;t make any entries I have made any wiser, in fact, I find that keeping a journal has reminded me of what a slow learner I am, despite how my beard greys and grows, but of how slow I am in dealing with the same annoiyance. The Kindle, however, because it is a fairly pricely little plastic slab, keeeps me, as you say, using the tools I've got. So now I guess I will make a note about how delightfully the morning's reading from Wisdom and the Office Hymn for Sundays fit together. Thanks for the reflection.

The ACNA is made up of different kind of Anglicans, including Anglo-Catholics. The Saint Bernard Breviary is an Anglo-Catholic prayer book. There are some traditional 39 Articles Anglicans who don't like the ACNA for that reason. What came to my mind watching this video (which I sadly missed two months ago when it first appeared) is that the same problem exists among Muslim sects. 12er Shi'ite Muslims ask Muhammad, his daughter Fatima Az-Zahra, her husband Ali Abu Talib (who was Muhammad's cousin), and their progeny to the 12th Imam to pray for them because Fatima, Ali Abu Talib, the 1st Imam, and the other 11 Imams to pray for them. The idea is not that these 14 pure ones can answer prayers, because as creatures they cannot. However, Fatima and Ali Ibn Talib were martyred, while the next 10 Imams were martyred by the Caliphs of the Umayyads and Abbasids, who all Shi'ites believed hijacked Islam and converted the State into an Empire. All but one Sufi lineage accept up to 8 of the 12er Shi'ite Imams as spiritual leaders in their lineages, despite most of them following Sunni Muslim schools of Shariah. In fact, 12er Shi'ite Muslims can ask John the Baptist, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Peter, and Saint James the Just, to pray for them, because they believe John the Baptist was a Prophet, the Virgin Mary is like Fatima Zahra, and Prophet / Messenger Jesus had 12 Imams, the first two being Simon Peter and James the Just. It is the same with Prophet / Messenger Moses and Prophet / Messenger Ishmael. Traditionally, most Orthodox Sunnis who were not Sufis still accepted Sufis as Muslims, and eventually tolerated the 12er sect of Shi'ite Muslims. However, hardline Sunnis and Fundamentalists believe Shi'ite Muslims and Sufis are outside Islam. This is why you hear about Shi'ite Mosques being bombed by al-Qaeda and other fundamentalists. I love the Psalms of David, as well as many Canticles in both Testaments, and I read the Bible. That accounts for my attraction to the Book of Common Prayer and Breviary collecting. Shi'ite Muslims have the equivalent of Canticles and Commemoration of Saints, as do Sufis. There are even Shi'ite traditions of Muslims asking 6th Imam why an Eastern Catholic priest was able to heal sick people. The 6th Imam states that the priest had a relic of a Saint and that Saint asked God to heal those sick people. Thus, Shi'ite Muslims are the Catholic / Orthodox of the Muslims, while Sunnis are the Protestants. Shi'ite Muslims are only 10% of all Muslims, however. Too much information, perhaps. However, the parallels are striking.

Scripto is one of my favorite mechanical pencils alongside Paper Mate of course. I have been burned buying paper mates and Parkers on the e store. What I learned is counterfeits are made because these are popular brands and bring attention and money. As I stated in another post, you can claim to almost me an expert and see new ones all the time because Scripto not only made pencils that we all know but you see ones that are legit from other countries, ones that were made exclusively for advertising, /salesmen samples, and retail in the US. So, if you are like me, when you see something like that as a collector, you will buy it. I would 100% say that they are fake. I have some of those Scriptos made for the US Government and I have off white and black, and I have only seen them in Primary colors. Here are some more giveaways: 1 that looks like PVC plastic, 2: the imprint is different, not to mention the Word Scripto is off center, 3: Vintage Scripts are a little weighty 4: The eraser is obviously a joke, and 5: the clip is not metal or affixed. When I go on that site I laugh and cry. Look up vintage paper mate. People are selling them for outrageous amounts. I blame all of this drama on resellers!

Pentel has a 2B 1.3 MM lead which I found after I put the Rite in the Rain on my Wish List on amazon! I presume that the 2B Pentel would write (or rite) quite closely to the lead in these

That Pentel 1.3 looks great, I might have to try one. Rite in the rain makes great gear as a whole.

I know which one you mean. It writes less like a pencil and more like a brush. Absurdly soft and pleasant, perfect for large lettering.

I like this design, it's like the Pentel GraphGear 500's cousin that juggles tyres for his day job. Lots of heft so you can feel it through gloves, and a wide lead core to offset the strong force you'll inevitably handle this with both because of the lack of tact from wearing gloves as well as the muscle fatigue from working on a tough job site interfering with fine motor control. The wide point means that hard force is applied over a large area, so less risk of ripping through the paper you're writing on, especially if said paper is wet. When you review the NicPro set, test its graphite against this one like you did with the Papermate!

@@DinnerForkTongue That graphite test is a good idea. But how disappointed will I be if it's terrible and scratchy? The whole point was to get all that extra graphite and erasers.

This was fun! I rarely come across a Mallard pencil so it was fun to see examples here. I didn't realize how many of the Wallace names tended to be "battle" based. I wonder who named them and what the rationale was...probably an interesting story. Wallace & Mallard sounds like a fancy old-time New York department store. Thanks, MAMO!
