Yup totally agree with your interpretation. And the answer is that we also have all world inside us ,same as everything& everyone around us are simply our creation from inside us. Matrix in Matrix 😂. In my country there's a saying *IF you wanna change the world, then at first begin from yourself* What is inside that is outside - mirroring concert. Mostly these days mirroring from inside out looks like complete crooked mirrors honestly. )) *Mind and Worlds* are the most powerful instruments gifted to us from creator.

I fell in love with David Bowie when I watched this film at 11 years old. Before I even knew who he was and discovered his music. I’m 48 now and I love him still!
@@queenheart6167 There was a Japanese manga who's creators main characters inspiration was Jareth visually. Its a bit of an adult manga/anime but its my favorite one. It's called Bastard!! (Yes exclamation marks have to be included in the title) By Kazushi Hagiwara. Dark Schneider is the character.
*Edit as of 6/15/2023; I am aware now that Jim Henson already explained what this scene and story represents but at the time of writing this, I had only watched the movie adaptation and had not read the book or researched the creator and minds behind it all. ^ ^ Still, thank you to those of you who still agree or like my silly interpretation! Means a lot lol . . . Even if Jareth is some representation of the devil or whatever and he was trying to seduce and manipulate her to stay with him forever, still doesn't change the fact that Jareth sounds deeply hurt and lonely here. He does have feelings, even if they come off bitter and selfish. All he has is his goblins, no material thing satisfies him. He was drawn to Sarah because of her strengths, her courage, her purity, things he doesn't posses, despite his bravado's. He admired her for that (and possibly even feared), that's why she was special. She was different, she stood up to him and his challenges. Surely he had attempted this with other females before Sarah and all rejected his offers and failed. The sad thing is though, Jareth doesn't understand that's not how a woman's heart works. You can't always just simply toss pretty gifts in their face and expect them to be wooed and fall into your arms. The human heart is a complex thing, it takes time and reason and relies on connection. Not to mention, stealing your baby brother and threatening to turn it into a goblin doesn't exactly leave a good impression. Not saying Jareth is exactly innocent but I don't think he's necessarily pure evil, just following the wrong paths. Over time, he might have the potential to be good. Idk, it's something about this part of the film. He seems to be admitting his defeat and the fact that she's gotten the best of him. Surely he also admires Sarah for the compassion and dedication she has for her younger brother so when he says 'I can't live within you', I feel like he's also saying: I'm not capable of the same compassion you are. Maybe I'm looking too far into it, I just think there's a lot of possibilities.
They explain what Jareth represents in the labyrinth behind the scenes. Sarah has to choose between growing up and her childish fantasies. The labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey of coming of ageJareth is a representation of the rock star young girls dream of however, intimidating because he's an older man attracted to Sarah. This is where her scared and confused demeanor comes from towards Jareth. She is attracted to him as young girls are to their idols but is scared because it's a different kind of attraction now that she sees it from him. In the ballroom scene you can see it. She feels the tension and is confused between being a child in an adult world. The confusing transition of being a young girl and a woman at the same time. The time represents not only saving Toby but also her time of being a child running out. It's explained completely in the behind the scenes. Jim wanted to show this scary and confusing struggle as he has daughters and wanted to emulate this struggle.
In the end of the movie Sarah rejects the offer of remaining in a fantasy world in order to grow up and face reality and the responsibilities that come with it. Including being an adult. Remember, Sarah didn't want to care for her baby brother. An adult responsibility. Her mother wants her to have a boyfriend and dates. Another adult responsibility. Sarah doesn't want to grow up...and facing the labyrinth made her realize that she has to. When Toby took Lancelot it got her angry. It was her toy. Her teddy bear. In the labyrinth...when she met the junk puppets (which were a representation of one carrying burdened baggages in life) they gave her Lancelot, her room and all her childish things. Sarah realizes....it's all junk. It's worthless. These toys...it's time to grow up and let it all go. Her room crumbles resembling her childhood walls tearing down. Sarah in the end of the movie is seen giving Lancelot to Toby accepting her fate. She's putting away everything in her room that
That's the glimpse of true love there. He loved Sarah with all his heart but didn't know how to make her love him so he thought that when he gives her a reason to come to him, in his realm, so he could interact more free with her, manipulate her...she would learn to love him over time. But the love for her baby brother was stronger than everything Jareth threw against her. He thought that she despises her brother so much, that she would love him for getting rid of Toby for her. So he changed his strategy and wanted to maker her love him with pretty presents. He wanted the impossible because here in his realm, he has everything he could desire but not love. Yes, he had his loyal goblin subjects but they feared him and he was unhappy with them, he has gold and other riches but not the only thing nothing can ever buy: The true love of a woman. In the end he was so sad and hurt that he wanted to make her understand that he loved her with all his heart but she had seen his cruel side. It was too late to turn back. And so he remained alone with a shattered heart.
beautiful music and wonderful story and film, loved it already as a little child (and hoped i could be in the fairy world) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changeling sagas tell, that elves sometime steal (unwanted) babies and exchange them with some creatures. And the story of the film reminds very much to that: somehow invisible entry to another world, the fairy world, where time goes differently ( -> some celtic sagas where someone comes to the fairy world) and creatures that all are named as fairies, goblins, pixies, etc. with an elf as their king. As seen in sagas and Tolkien's books elves can be good and bad, and they love music. The people in the ballroom could be elves, too, so he wouldn't be the only. He seems to feel comfortable among them, but watches the girl who feels afraid & lost because of the staring people. With invading her for dancing it could be a "don't come near, she is under royal protection", too Once read that other stories, too. But thinking of the character of the king, he has too much fun to be king, why should he leave and what would he do? He would be terribly lost in "our" world, where he's no one. Really thinking taking (unwanted) children to the faiy world is because of pity. Wouldn't it be a cute idea when these children play with fairy children?
I feel like Sarah has come to the Labyrinth before in dreams but forgotten (see: Hoggle expecting her), but this final time Jareth comes into her physical reality. The “I can’t live within you” is him dealing with the reality that Sarah is growing up and soon won’t have a role for him in her dreamworld anymore as she finally integrates more into the real world. If the Labyrinth is a dreamworld based on a play/story she has and the toys in her room, if it’s not a “real” realm, then her growing up essentially means death or purgatory for him as he can’t live within her imagination anymore. It’s the only line where you can see that he Knows he’s an idea/construct, and though that doesn’t mean he’s not emotionally real, if he can’t live within her mind then where else will he go?
I thought Hoggle expected her, because Jareth told him to expect her. I didn't even realize, fully, that EVERY creature in the labyrinth was against Sarah succeeding. Even the worm! For some reason, as a child, I thought the worm was just 'not the brightest worm in the wall' LOL. But his final comment "If she'd kept goin' on down that way, she'd have gone straight to that caaastle!" was him being TRIUMPHANT at thwarting her! Clever film....& I LOVE how we can all still figure pieces of it out today!
She asked him to take the baby, he did. Then he brings her favourite book to life and plays the perfect villain. I think in his twisted view he was doing everything for her and still she refusing to see it
It was a twisted fairy-tale, to be certain. The film was a lot deeper than many realized, including myself, back then. Jareth is giving Sarah what she asked for. Yet he is not. Jareth is represented as Devil-like: demonic yet seductive. Doing what she asked, yet not without paying a Piper for it & as we all know: Evil does not work for free. He was never going to grant any wish other than taking Toby, everything else was a false-promise. If she had give in to him, she never would have seen Toby again.
Also Jareth simply phasing through Sarah at one point can mean two things 1. He isn’t real he’s just a fantasy in Sarah’s mind 2. She’s focusing on her brother and ignoring him. To Sarah Jareth is invisible to her
It truly does. Because of the way its sung & the plot scene when its heard (the audience is rooting for Sarah).....one can miss some of the incredible 'nuances' in the lyrics!!! I saw this in 1986 & I still 'catch' things I missed! LOVE this film & Bowie, I'll love them forever.
How You Turn My World You Precious Thing You Starve and Near Exaust Me Everything I've Done I've Done For You I Move The Stars For No One You've run so long You've run so far Your Eyes Can Be So Cruel Just As I Can Be So Cruel Oh I Do Believe in You Yes I do Live without your sunlight Love without your heartbeat I I Can't Live Within You
For educational purposes, if anyone here has read HP Lovecraft, he will often use the phrase, "non-euchlidean" to describe architecture. That room is a perfect example of non-euchlidean, since its mere existence seems to defy reality.
+Wander von der Seele It's Euclidean, after Euclid, the Greek mathematician and "father of geometry". Anyway you're right, very non-Euclidean, very Escherian :)

I really loved that film when I was young. They were making so good films in past.I love more realistic effects over electronic effects nowadays.Look when Jareth walks under the path and comes up at front of her.Good film, great play of both.BTW lyrics and voice is quite sad. Bowie gave climat to this tune.
I remember the first time I watched this, I was 7 years old, in 2011. I didn’t even know who David Bowie was, and I started learning about him from my dad in 2017, I didn’t realize that I could of seen him in person until he died at the beginning of 2016. I wish I could travel back to the 80’s
How does he put so much emotion in his voice. And so many contrasting emotions also. I can be so cruel, but i do believe in you, i cant live within you. Every lyric creates a new angle of the perspective and motives. Many emotional shifts is what im saying.
This was my favourite film as a kid , literally used to watch it over and over everyday. What am amazing voice Bowie had. Also I last listened this just before Christmas, just before my wife left me .
Dare I say this but sometimes I don't think some women understand how deep they can touch a mans heart I think him and the phantom of the opera show a little of how bad it can hurt even though you try to act tough on the outside inside your dying and hurting I.m. The pain with a broken heart can be the worst pain and loneliness and can change and reshape a person forever especially when you plainly love them for who they are.
You act as if women don't experience loneliness, heartbreak or any of that other stuff. Men play with our hearts, minds and bodies all the time, and they often don't seem to take the things they do to us seriously at all. Maybe your troubles aren't because women don't understand you, but because you don't understand women.
I have to admit this was my first David Bowie movie that I ever seen when I was little not to mention these songs were the first David Bowie songs that I ever heard in my life growing up.
Same here! I remember when this debuted in 1986....I barely knew who David Bowie was & I fell hopelessly, wonderful, eternally in love with David Bowie after this! He just looked like every temptation you could imagine then & to some extent.......today! :) I've loved him ever since. The world is not the same without him.
There really is some powerful imagery in this movie. The ball scene where she shatters the glass of the illusion, taking the plunge in this place, which is basically the heart if the labyrinth. What a great film
My favorite lines in order is: “i move the stars for no one! “ 0:41 “Live without your sunlight, not without your heartbeat, I cant live within you” 1:25 (That whole line honestly touched my heart...especially when he said,” not without your heartbeat” its like he’s saying he cant live without her heart or love...and the last part “ i cant live within you” i guess cuz she rejects him...and she she wont open his heart to him) “Though i do believe in you, yes i do!” 1:12 “Your eyes can be sooo cruel, just as i can be so cruel!” 0:58 When i was younger i was like Eh..david bowie you gotta work on that pitch and what are you talking about (cuz i never understood his songs such like magic dance 💁🏽♀️but i made a good theory what that song is about ) Then when i got a better meaning of the song Im like😔😥aw poor jareth... He’ve been alone so long And when he finally found someone that caught his eye He poor his heart through songs But yer know if he would’ve run into sarah again maybe 6-9 years later 🌝... and shown a lil more chivalry (cuz low key he’s childish) then wouldve gotten sarah attention 1:35 i like how he’s singing about his heart but steady moving toby out of sarah’s reach 😂😂😂😂🥴he op
Jareth is a faerie, and like most faeries he's very childlike and mischievous as well as being frighteningly dark and cruel. He hasn't had much contact with humans and when he does cross paths with them he's used trickery and cruelty to ensnare them in his world. He's trying the same old tricks with Sarah since up to now all humans have stumbled over the same thing and it's amusement to watch them fail, but Sarah is different from all other humans he's encountered. As she spends more time in his world tackling each obstacle before her he becomes enarmored by her strengths and perserverence, qualities that he's never seen before, and now the game turns into desperate attempts to convince her to stay with him. He tries to shower her with things he believes will make her want to stay and over time she does start to develop feelings for him, but her responsibility for the safety of her little brother takes precedence over her own heart so she rejects Jareth in order to persue her quest. Jareth not understanding what true love is nor realising that humans are a lot more complicated than he thinks is left with a mixture of feelings - confusion, frustration, bitterness and heart break - to why she's rejecting him. Those final words he sings "I can't live within you" are his realisation that there's no place in her heart for him. Could he really have changed enough in a sequel to live happily ever after with Sarah if she came back to him? Well surprise, there were sequels but unfortunately their ending were far from that. They were mostly centered around Toby who's now grown up to a teenager and when Jareth finally did confront the now adult Sarah in the human world she had no memory of him or her time in the Labyrinth. I won't spoil too much but if you're interested in knowing the fate of Jareth, Toby and Sarah look up the manga Return to Labyrinth.
I wish we could travel back to the 70’s aswell, Time is moving fast. I can’t believe that we are literally going to be 20 years into the 21st century! 1990 will be 30 years old! :(
Omg! I remember everything about this movie it was something to watch back in 1986. To watch Jennifer Connolly and David Bowie doing the movie together was magical in itself. R.I.P. David Bowie you are missed very much. Love the video!!!
In a way when jareth reveal where toby was Its like he was making her choose between toby and jareth Until she did that leap of faith He allowed her to fall slowly to ground even tho using his powers constantly is causing “the world to fall down” Because she “starve and near exhaust him”
To see David was to fall in love with him. To listen to sing his own songs is to become enraptured. To hear him speak is to realize he was a genius. Goodbye, Starman. I still have my tears. 😢
I remember the whole thing when I used to watch this film when I was a toddler I just adore the film and now I just feel like Jareth (sorry if I spelt his name wrong) but this film lightens up my heart!
I love Jareth he is sooooo amazing and If where I would have stayed with him regardless of his actions coz in the long run he was doing as she asked in the first place
I have to day david Bowie in this movie he was sexy loved the character he was a awesome artist with a great voice we will never get another David Bowie he is one of a kind
What cannot truly be within, is without and apart. The superficial will truly never bridge the soul and heart. Without unveiling the truth within, the world would always be without, all that love does bring. But I think Bowie was very much much within, or he would never so well have been able to sing. R.I.P. ❤️

Mostly these days mirroring from inside out looks like complete crooked mirrors honestly. ))
*Mind and Worlds* are the most powerful instruments gifted to us from creator.

Who watch this in 2024?
I watch this movie at least once a month. I love this movie and have watched it for years. I'm 69 yr old grandmother now💜
Me.
Get a life.
Have it on Bluray&UMD :)
@@karenamicarella7036haha 69:p All joking aside. I don't like this movie that much. I mean, I like it, but um I do the same thing but instead to the nightmare before christmas, although this is like in the top 10
I fell in love with David Bowie when I watched this film at 11 years old. Before I even knew who he was and discovered his music. I’m 48 now and I love him still!
he is beautiful and amazing! Looks like a manga character.
For real ❤
As much as I enjoy some aspects of him, he's just overrated to me. Like his vocals are meh. So what is it that y'all really like about him?
@Royalty_girlie your probably to young to understand.
Means a lot lol

I always thought he was a hot King.
Love the Bowie LONG LIVE THE KNG
#ripDavidBowie
+andstarvinwasborn I wouldn't call Jareth a paedo. Magical beings don't really get the concept of age and time.
+Madeline Main yes, he was... lovely and sexy!!!
She's putting away everything in her room that
He looks like he's about to cry when he says, 'I move the stars for no one' (R.I.P. Goblin King you are missed)

Kudos to Jim Henson and Elliott Scott!
And so he remained alone with a shattered heart.
beautiful music and wonderful story and film, loved it already as a little child (and hoped i could be in the fairy world)
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changeling
sagas tell, that elves sometime steal (unwanted) babies and exchange them with some creatures.
With invading her for dancing it could be a "don't come near, she is under royal protection", too
Once read that other stories, too.
This is sad😢
Or it’s from other Sarah’s that he’s brought to his world to replace his lost love
This song is so sad because he was giving Sarah everything she ever wanted and its like she's ignoring him
Typical male female relationship
Also Jareth simply phasing through Sarah at one point can mean two things
1. He isn’t real he’s just a fantasy in Sarah’s mind
2. She’s focusing on her brother and ignoring him. To Sarah Jareth is invisible to her
Любимый фильм из детства. Музыка top!
This song has so many truths behind it.

+Wander von der Seele the room is taken from a Escher drawing btw ;-)
Wander von der Seele Dude we are not talking about education we are here to listen to the best 1980 movie song that ever existed.
I'm pretty sure she could spell Euclidean correctly though.
I just came here for labyrinth... rest this idiotic joker god😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂i thought here people might try to find their way out of labyrinth

My parents grew up with this movie and shared it with me it just made my childhood I was so blessed I even named my dog sir didimus
The " i move the stars for no one!" Ive always loved that line. Because in his mind hes been moving the stars for her ❤
How does he put so much emotion in his voice. And so many contrasting emotions also. I can be so cruel, but i do believe in you, i cant live within you. Every lyric creates a new angle of the perspective and motives. Many emotional shifts is what im saying.
I love this movie it’s so comforting
It's been over 7 years and I still can't believe he's not here anymore.
Love you always

The pain in those last lines... especially: l can't live within you 😢 great delivery by David Bowie
R.I.P
David Bowie
You will always be in my heart, going to miss you so much but I'll never forget your awesome music and movies.
Jareth and Phantom are two sides of the same coin :(
The Phantom would kill for you
Jareth would give you the world
You act as if women don't experience loneliness, heartbreak or any of that other stuff.
When he flips from below to up, that's a practical effect, just amazing how they did it
Even though this movie is old I really love this movie and this is my fave song and scene in the movie
True
There really is some powerful imagery in this movie. The ball scene where she shatters the glass of the illusion, taking the plunge in this place, which is basically the heart if the labyrinth. What a great film
Who's watching these Labyrinth scenes to remember David after hearing about his passing?
+Kirsten H every chance i get.. in my mind.....and every bit of music he made and every motion picture he did
me....
I would stay 😢... Gosh David is just... Was just perfect. A true artist till the last second... I miss you maestro
My favorite lines in order is:
“i move the stars for no one! “ 0:41
“Live without your sunlight, not without your heartbeat,
I cant live within you” 1:25
(That whole line honestly touched my heart...especially when he said,” not without your heartbeat” its like he’s saying he cant live without her heart or love...and the last part “ i cant live within you” i guess cuz she rejects him...and she she wont open his heart to him)
“Though i do believe in you, yes i do!” 1:12
“Your eyes can be sooo cruel, just as i can be so cruel!” 0:58
When i was younger i was like
Eh..david bowie you gotta work on that pitch and what are you talking about (cuz i never understood his songs such like magic dance 💁🏽♀️but i made a good theory what that song is about )
Then when i got a better meaning of the song
Im like😔😥aw poor jareth...
He’ve been alone so long
And when he finally found someone that caught his eye
He poor his heart through songs
But yer know if he would’ve run into sarah again maybe 6-9 years later 🌝... and shown a lil more chivalry (cuz low key he’s childish) then wouldve gotten sarah attention
1:35 i like how he’s singing about his heart but steady moving toby out of sarah’s reach 😂😂😂😂🥴he op
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂JOKER
So many levels to these old films.....like never ending story as well......epic
Ello! I SAID ello!
Favorite scene. David Bowie crossed with mc escher ❤ it is certainly not just his voice that makes him gorgeous and amazing.

Omg! I remember everything about this movie it was something to watch back in 1986. To watch Jennifer Connolly and David Bowie doing the movie together was magical in itself. R.I.P. David Bowie you are missed very much. Love the video!!!
My favorite film from my childhood❤
In a way when jareth reveal where toby was
Its like he was making her choose between toby and jareth
Until she did that leap of faith
He allowed her to fall slowly to ground even tho using his powers constantly is causing “the world to fall down”
Because she “starve and near exhaust him”
To see David was to fall in love with him. To listen to sing his own songs is to become enraptured. To hear him speak is to realize he was a genius. Goodbye, Starman. I still have my tears. 😢

Absolute 80s: David Bowie's voice
One of my favorite movies
Video proof that Bowie should have played the phantom instead of Gerard Butler.
Or Raoul; he would have been an EPIC Raoul. Him and Gerard Butler on opposing sides would have been legend.
The Nuharoo I think he was a bit old for Raoul.
Connor Lachmanec
Right, but still, it would have been great to hear him sing "All I Ask of You."
He was not that old.
yass!
So heartfelt and tragic
Aaron H. Jackson Ive been watching this movie since 1991 and I still cannot get enough and feel it just as deeply each time.
What cannot truly be within, is without and apart. The superficial will truly never bridge the soul and heart. Without unveiling the truth within, the world would always be without, all that love does bring. But I think Bowie was very much much within, or he would never so well have been able to sing. R.I.P. ❤️
"you run so hard, you run so far," RIP Bowie
