Sad to see Shane in this state, one of the most iconic singer songwriters of a generation. I first saw The Pogues in the early 80's. Elvis’s last shows still had “Elvis Moments” of amazing performance but this was so sad to me. I’m not a Shane hater I love him very very much but this was rough man.
It’s like he’s so f*cked up that he thinks, in his own head, that he’s doing great….but at the same time, if he is or isn’t, he’s totally oblivious to it, or that there’s any problem….i never did much in the way of pills, or opiates, or narcotics, but I drank like a whale, & I’ve had moments, and I think I’ve been drunk and f*cked up enuf to comprehend this madness…..wow tho, Shane was f’n brilliant, and a trooper…..and yeah, like someone said, they must’ve had HEAVY contractual pressure for the popes to put him onstage like that, I mean, it was his band, I assume he was in total control, unlike the pogues where there was much more democratic opposition to Shane’s whims ….at times anyway.
Ok…I had to read thru the comments to get some inking of what he was on…..Dutch hash cakes, all eaten at once for breakfast? Liquor infused with mushrooms? …..and not pills, or whatever….both of those stories make sense also, of course…..good lord, poor guy, Jesus.
I love the Pogues and Niel Diamond...but that Cracklin Rose is both unexpected and not very good at all. Sad to say..but RIP Shane, writer of some of the most exquisite songs I know.
I just put this on to remind myself of how absolutely and undoubtedly shite they were. My celtic supporting pals played their crap and got drunk, they never ever listened to them sober, ever, you still won't get anyone walking about with ghd pogues on in their earphones for example because they're shite- it's all about claiming you belong to Ireland and letting everyone hear it even though it is shite- the pogues themselves summed up in a sentence.

This isn’t just too much booze.. this is a drug overdose in front of thousands of people … can’t say the man was ever boring … brilliant writer
Is that Mick Foley or Slash at the banjo?
Shane's an embarrasment here, murdering his own tunes. Breaks my heart to hear it :(
Who is it that escorts him off stage during "Dark Streets of London"??
Charlie maclennon he was the road manager died a few years later
@@darraghomalley1896 just read he died in 1996 whilst on tour with the Popes.
Hard to watch. Poor guy.
Hard to believe he's still with us
Hard to watch ? He choose to drink and take drugs. That s disrespect for the rest oh the band
Those aren't the words...
The Netherlands can do that to best of them. Beware the pot brownie haha. 🙏❤ SM
He said before that he would tell someone to f*#k off if they preached about his drinking, but did those a**holes have to be laughing when he was carried off stage? Still love how the band kept the show going
The pogues Pinkpop in '88..that concert i did see..much better....Joe Cocker Sinéad ò Connor Red Hot Chili Peppers...absolute the best of the best that year...Joe Cocker as final act..dreamact...
Several are in rock heaven..RIP Sinèad Joe Herman Shane 😢
Not The Pogues. Shane's band
What I find amazing is why are the people at the side of the stage smiling and laughing at him being carried off. He was in a really bad state there is nothing funny about it 😢
Sad seeing Shane this way but this is not The Pogues. It's Shane MacGowan & The Popes
What an absolute racket, im sorry but thank god for the band that covered the fact he's absolutely off his face, so very sad, shouldn't of been on the stage in that state!
Probably thought being on stage would sober him up but he just got worse!! Must've had a massive sip just before going up!!
More cowbell !!!
awesome
I was there
I can only imagine what he ingested.
It was a hash cake. Too strong he got paranoid and wanted to go home. He often performed on an empty stomach, why he was soo thin back then, also a vegetarian. The hash cake made him feel terribly hungry and paranoid. He was great guy thru and thru
Il était défoncés à l'hero..
great
Oh man, what a Shane!!
love macgowans songs....but this is so sad....makes elvis's last gigs look like broadway....mumbling cabbage...didnt even know that cigarette burned through both his knuckles....RIP Shane
He's still alive!
@@hwgavin tell him that
@@shavedmonkey9821 Mumbling cabbage... this had me in stitches hahaha.. I agree, tell him that!
lol, he's still recording! This is just a bad show. Like how snl or the simpsons has a bad show. I've seen him live 12 times and this tour and the next, he looked like he was gonna die. I think it might have been a brilliant marketing gimmick, tho, bc I always went to see him play live bc I thought he was gonna die soon. Now, we're both still here 24 years later
Elvis’s last shows still had “Elvis Moments” of amazing performance but this was so sad to me. I’m not a Shane hater I love him very very much but this was rough man.
Best moment out of Pinkpop history😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂i think he had one drink to many......
2 fles whiskey teveel
Yup! Just one☝️
It's not only some drinks....Sinne years He smashes his brain and his body.
Shane ate the brown acid, took the brown heroin, drank the brown Johnny Walker and Newcastle Brown ale….oh and ate some skunk weed brownies
It's painful to watch... so sad :(
LOLLLL. Shane feelin gooooood!
Amy Winehouse and Shane McGowan had to performing live on stage together ❣️👍
They are...
Like Charles Manson and Robin Williams should have had a show
@@marconius101he’s not dead. Fair play he’s close but…
@@Dilkingt0nne Now he’s gone. God Bless Shane. RIP
@@RichardKoning wow yes. What an awful shame I didn’t have to wait any longer RIP
Omg what is that for
Junkie😂😂
How can' alcohol destroy a men.😩
Shane is cool, he's just drunker than cooter brown
Shane Mcgowan the king
I love the Pogues and Niel Diamond...but that Cracklin Rose is both unexpected and not very good at all. Sad to say..but RIP Shane, writer of some of the most exquisite songs I know.
This is The Popes not The Pogues. He was fired from The Pogues in 91.
This is The Popes - not Pogues!
Nice!
this is price less shane mc go wan❣
They all tryin to look cool with sun glasses on but Shane is the only cool one of them all
Shane is FUBAR and nobody cares, don't glorify his drug abuse.
The Popes?
