- My first flight ever on the A340! Listen to those awesome Rolls Royce Trent 500 engines! So smooth! Watch as we take a long departure roll from Runway 3L and climb to the Northeast! We then turn left towards the Southwest! Truly an excellent and rare aircraft to fly on these days! This is South African Airways' oldest A340-600! Excellent service on board! I can't believe they used such a large aircraft for a two hour flight! Nice views of the Johannesburg area out of the window! This part of South Africa is certainly very dry in the winter! Filmed from the Business Class cabin on board South African Airways! Flight 327 to Cape Town. 5/14/14.

I'm glad that in 2020, Lufthansa and South African still have multiple units of this aircraft
The A340-600 is one of my favorite A340 models, and the majestic sound of those RR Trent 500s proves it!
The Trent 500 may go down as one of my top 3 favorite engines. Aesthetically and sonically it's just schmexy.
It's such a rarity! I really like it as well! I hope to go on a few more A340 journeys in my lifetime!
The IAE V2500 Are better!

The Trent 500 and Trent 800 sound similar
A340-600 is my favorite aircraft of all time!

AirplaneDude One of my favorite aircraft too! I want to fly one before the get phased out!
That is one of the best deepest Buzz Saw sounds I have ever heard, NICE!!!!!!!
Flown on SAA in January. Absolutely love that engine sound on SAA airbus a340-600
listen to that sound ! no words needed anymore, only listen to that symphonie
Feel free to stop by and listen anytime! Glad you liked the video!
yes I like it very much.... I turned the volume to the max during spool up :-) have a great day dude stay save
Beautiful! And that big shadow of plane on the ground... Woow!
Glad you liked it! I agree, the A340-600 makes an excellent shadow below! Thank you for the comment!
Thank you for this. I was privileged to be on SAA a flight in 2000. The reason for this was our 737800 war replaced with a 747 SP. I sat more or less where you sat and was on the same Take Off route. Pitty i didn't have a video recording of that phenominal flight yet seeing this 340-600, gave me a big smile on my face with fond memories
Worked for 18 years at SAA Technical. One of my favourite aircraft to work on and fly in. Best part of my working career was spent here at OR Tambo International Airport.
Love this take-off! Awesome sound is right!
+ccwalker050 Glad you enjoyed the engine sound! Thank you for the comment!
That Buzzsaw sound is awesome! Especially on the 757s. I really enjoy your videos and subscribed to your channel. Now I can get my turbine sound takeoff fix everytime, anytime! Keep it up!
+Markus Jentes Glad you liked the channel so much! I appreciate your subscription!
She takes her time to get of the ground....but so subtle....lovely to watch...
It's truly a great aircraft! Glad you liked the video!
Absolutely, fabulous , Video!!!! Great.....Really great engine sound. Climb out, and se nary is stunning! Loved that 1st left turn with the aircrafts shadow below. With the announcements in the background from flight attendants, It feels like something from a Sci- fi movie about the future. Thanks for another wonderful experience,
Walter
Glad you liked the video so much! I really appreciate all your kind words!
beautiful even beautiful sound inside
+Simos Bahn I love the A340-600!
"HUGE" like given for engine sound :-) Nice video!
This is the best A340-600 video I have ever seen!
There really aren't too many out there to be sure! Glad you liked it so much!
***** It has that unique buzzsaw, that I love!
The plane itself looks sleek and quiet!
Yeah, it's kind of a very quiet and smooth buzzsaw sound if you will! I really enjoyed the flight!
Unique buzzing sound of the Trent
Nice footage - I love the A340. It's an increasingly rare aircraft and I've only flow in one twice and they were both old birds (Cathay Pacific). Nice channel - subscribed! :)
+Premium Flyer Glad you liked the video! The A340 is a gem but they're tough to find! I appreciate the comment and subscription!
LOVE these Engines! Incroyable!
Great footage! This is one of my favorite aircraft and this particular aircraft has an amazing engine sound! Gotta love Rolls-Royce!
Daniel K It's a fantastic aircraft! I hope to get another flight on board!
***** I've actually never been on one before. The A340 is one of the aircraft I wish to go on.
Great sound of the engines spooling up!
Glad you liked it! I'm big fan of the Rolls Royce Trent 500 engines as well!
Good video. Good SHD, Take off with South Africa Airways.
My god, listen to those trents GO !!!! Awesome footage
For the umpteenth time I went on this flight. It was just so much more special this time. Smooth take off. Saw the green lake you passed. As aircraft popped through the clouds, flaps retracted and engine note just upped a bit more. I will post the snip.
The Trent 500 engines sound so calm when they takeoff
Amazing!
Phenomenal is right.
Just to clarify. 1) This is Johannesburg (JNB) and because of the altitude, the take off is very long. 2) There are many European airlines here because it is one of the most lucrative routes in the World. 3) Comair of South Africa obtained the franchise from BA to fly using their colours in S.Africa. 4) The A340-600 was used on the JNB-CPT route because that plane became the non-stop CPT-LHR aircraft later that evening and it acted as a re-positioning flight.
Awesome video....I love the shadow on the ground , give a good sense of how fast your going.
The silhouette of the A340-600 is neat to see on the ground for sure! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video so much! Thank you for taking the time to comment!
Epic sound!
+Tib co Agreed! Glad you liked it! Thanks for the comment!
Best-sounding turbofan ever!
Thank you for the video! Im flying from DC (IAD) to (JNB) on the 340 in August, I feel more at ease!!
nice engine sound and a very nice aircraft!!!

Glad you liked the video! It wasn't too hot, maybe 20C or so! Thank you for the comment!
Most reliable plane ever made... A truly masterpiece of engineering
I love the A340! I wonder if I'll get another chance to fly on one before they're gone!
@@mah584jr yeah me too i wish i could find a flight with a340
Great video.☺️
Love this gorgeous T/O from Johannesburg...nice shadow of the jetliner, BTW... and believe it or not..the first commerncial JETs ((BOAC Comets))flew from London to Johannesburg way back in May 1952....making lotsa stops such as in Paris, Rome, Athens, Cairo and Nairobi...also...my parents were in South Africa some 15+ years later..they loved it.... and imagine today's super-computes on laptops way back when the first jetliners flew, heeheee?
+James Moulton Glad you enjoyed it so much! Thanks for the information!
Yes they use the 600 and 300 variant for the 2 hour flight. And it gets FULL in economy. Business class is usually half....But I ensure I book my flight on this aircraft or the A330.
Last time I did this leg, I was in the 300 variant which sounds like the A319. Still cool. Thank you for this post. Really enjoying it.
Really nice! Sounds like a quieter & slightly detuned Trent 800. It'll be interesting to see where SAA go post-A346 for their long haul routes.
It's too bad more airlines don't use the A340 as it is truly an excellent aircraft to fly on! I love the Trent 500s! I'm really glad you liked the video! Thank you for your continued contribution to the channel!
Phenomenal video! Just so you know, half of your vids didn't appeared on my feed, so I had to go into your channel first :)
Glad you liked it so much! Thanks for the heads up!
Fantastic video as always. great to see some action at my 'home' airport! keep the great vids coming!
Glad you liked it! Johannesburg is a very nice airport! I'll do my best to continue to supply awesome content! Thank you for taking the time to comment!
Amazing sound from th engines
A340 engine sound is pretty cool.
Yeah, it's awesome! Glad you liked it!
Oh, okay it's just that some people might think you are actually reviewing the class and take it the wrong way. Great video!!!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
very nice takeoff though i miss this airport in Johannesburg
Great video. Thank you for sharing. :-)
Fernando Permana Glad you liked it! Thank you for the comment!
Welcome to my country
I hope to visit again someday!
Very nice video, brought some old memories of times, when I lived in Kempton Park, Bonaero Park and then build my house in Pomona ext.3.:-) My mom is burried in Moifontein cemetery, which can be seen on the video too. Just the winter smog over JHB area is terrible! Thanks once again for sharing! :-)
No worries! Glad you liked the video so much! Thank you for your comment!
Also that is a nice view of the shadow
Great video. Oldest A346 nice. There TG B772ER in taxiing. Amazing engines sound. I flew TG A346 in biz class before
Glad you liked it so much! It's a great aircraft!
That is awesome. Johannesburg looks modern from the air, the air pollution is a bit thick though. Kinda reminds me of NYC in the early 80's.
Andrew Tubbiolo Glad you liked it! I think it gets like that more in the dry season! Thank you for the comment!
this is so amazing :) BIG LIKE!
Thank you! I appreciate the like!
Airbus always!!❤️
It was really full the plane
Cool shadow at 2:37
Muito bom o Vídeo

very good sound :)
+RainbowCuteDash Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment!

not a day goes by without thinking or watching your videos. I wish I can travel around the world, like you! by the way, this is my new channel. I'm gonna upload some airplane videos soon. subbed to you on my new channel! keep up the great work, man!
Thanks! I uploaded about 18 or so videos today kind of as an appreciation to all my viewers! Thanks so much for the words of encouragement!
Wow what's the level of pollution there. Great video as always. Love this bird.
Jomari Apa It's a great aircraft! Glad you liked the video so much!
Love your channel and videos. May I ask how you are able to travel to so many different destinations and fly on so many different aircraft?
Super video, just sorry it was winter, in summer it would be nice and green with clear blue sky's, SA have a huge Airbus fleet if i am right and definitely Boeing 737's 800's,?? thanks very much for posting
Jan Kotze Glad you enjoyed it! I'll have to go and visit in the summer if possible! Thank you for the comment!
@2:42 motocross tracks awesome sight
Very quiet engines. I used to be in the RCAF and flew on the Boeing 707-720C with the JT3 engines, basically a J-57 without the afterburner and a small fan upfront. Areally noisy aircraft.
Looks like a big boy with the shadow it had produced
Great video you have! LOL the engine vibrations are coming through my laptop like I was on board! Question: BA do local routes in Africa or what was that little 737 doing so far from home (at about 0:05)?
Andre Wunjo I think that question may have been answered below in some of the other comments! I'm not completely sure myself! Glad you liked the video so much! Thank you for taking the time to comment!
God! Gottã love AIRBUS- Indeed it is a Heavenly n sassy Air craft The A-340 Model, With its gradual Mod Improvements it Just keepz getn better n better the more it Matures an Age,s Just like an Alcohol or beverage! I Choose an Airbus all the time.. Riding an A-340 for the first is a kin to one of those special moments the you never forget untill the dying breath. Gosh! Cant wait to Ride the A-350. :-D:-D:-D
+Karl Veness I hope to fly it too someday!
Indeed, very even Rolls Royce's engine sound through recorded flight-time. Just heard tragic event today plane crashing into sea Paris to Cairo Wed May 18th 2016
Great Video, how is life in South Africa I have always wanted to visit there from the USA
Glad you liked the video! I'm actually from the USA as well, but I can tell you that Cape Town is definitely worth the visit!
muito bom
I wish Air New Zealand had the A340-600 .
+Jo Tyers It's a wonderful aircraft to fly on!
I love the A346! i hear they're getting expensive to operate these days.
Yeah, it is a fantastic aircraft! I'm not privy to the operating costs! Thank you for the comment!
I've seen many of your videos and they are very nice. You use real nice expressions such as "phenomenal", "massive", amazing", are you being paid kick backs by Airbus?
No way, he's also been seen doing this to Boeing planes.
I dont know how true this is but they say Johannesburg has one of the worlds longest runways because of the thin air for takeoff. Great vid btw. I Subscribed.
I think it's true coz the climb rate in this video is pretty slow
+M Van Rensburg
I dunno. It's less than 100' higher elevation than DIA in Colorado, U.S., and they have one that's 16,000', vs 14,495' for JNB. But JNB is on the short list of "hot and high" airports.
wow great video. what brought you to south africa?
Glad you liked it! I really wanted to visit Cape Town and the surrounding areas along the coast! It was a long way away from home but completely worth it!
That is the longest take off roll I've ever seen for such a short flight. It is a large airplane, but I would not think that it would be that laden with fuel for a flight to Cape Town.
+CrocDoc1 Airlines have to work within power settings that are most efficient, satisfy any noise regulations around the airport, minimize engine wear, and of course the ambient air conditions, which as we're talking about above are hot and high (almost 6000') at this airport, which negatively affects lift and engine performance. Most pilots would just as soon give it hell on every takeoff, wanting the biggest margin of speed and climb rate...more altitude and speed translating to more time to work the problem if something screws the pooch while climbing out...
+L TR Very good information! Thanks for the reply.
@@ltr4300 Got to love "screws the pooch!" Have not heard that in a long while.
Es un avión muy fino y elegante , al despegar parece que escapas de los problemas y vuelas hacia la felicidad total
The A340-600 is a fantastic aircraft! Glad that airplane make you happy like they do for me! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Just as i was enjoying the sound and view ... did he just say your quiet in this aircraft during mid takeoff 1:19
Why does BA fly 73s there? (At the beginning of the vid) nice take off!
Stefan van Loon the brand is operated domestically by comair under licence.
awesome beautiful video:-)) what kind of video camera did you use?
I'm glad you liked it so much! I used a Sony HDR CX-100! Thank you for taking the time to comment!
your welcome thanks:-))
I love this plane, I'm honestly surprised airbus didn't keep going with this plane trying to compete with the 777.
I think the overall fuel burn ratios were better on the 777! I do really like the A340 though! Great aircraft!
Nice takeoff! Awesome engine sound btw! What was a British Airways B737-400 doing there??!!
+Nick Fenton Operated by Comair/Kulula
British airways brought comair. I guess it's a reminder to the South Africans that the British use to rule here
Oh.
+James Sinon
I stay here, British airways fly domestic flights from J'burg, to Capetown, Durban, East coast and I believe Nelspruit where the Kruger Park is and may be a view other in land City's, Sunday afternoons they turn above my home from these areas to land at J'burg which is 45 Km away, they are clearly recognizable with there blue belly's and engines
+Nick Fenton i was going to say.....
nice sound engine @3000 rpm
I whish there were some l-1011 video as clear and modern like yours are.
+Noble6233 That would be cool!
They usually use the A340 on flights to Cape Town to carry cargo that's too big for the usual A320/1 or B737 flights.
Too bad this beauty is no longer in production line. Anyway we are waiting for the A350!!!
Yeah, I hope to catch a flight on one soon!
With the old cabin or the current cabin? Just wondering since this plane is delivered in 2002.
+VinaStudios I don't know, it had blue seats!
Powerful thrust and sound, but purrs like a kitten.
I like it because TRENTS!!!!!!
+Monica Miyake (PenguinvilleRescue1) Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment! The engines are great!
what's the name of the motocross place down there i wonder
Love taking off from Or Tambo usually to Durban or Dubai, if anyone has any link to SAA, please tell them to get some A380's and some a350's or b787 or b777! Great sound and video!
wes k Glad you liked the video and the sound! Thank you for your comment!
***** Please upload more!
Saa were supposed to get 4 a-380-800's but could not pay on time thanks to the ANC.
David Adams there was never a plan by SAA to acquire A380's.
Are those the same engines that are on the DC-8-71?
+n310ea The re-engined DC8s use CFM56s, similar to the ones you'd get on the A340-200/300, A320s and 737s. These are Rolls Royce Trent 500s. Although they do look relatively similar, these are a fair bit larger and more powerful.
..looks like a large/long business class if you are seated that close to the engines...
Yeah, the business cabin is pretty large!
A NICE AIRCRAFT,GOOD SOUND BUT NOTHING COMPARES TO THE 757
In Africa where always hit 36+ degrees C with dusty air cause 5% of thrust lost from the engine and the plane needs more distance for higher speed to reach Vr compare to other country like Asia. Anyway, this plane seems didn't reduce power to climbing thrust based on the engine sound.
My house is at 05:00 awsome!
Very cool! You're not the first person who's house I caught on camera! Thanks for commenting!
