    I love the look of these tires, and the fact that they seem to be purpose built for performance even if that comes at some longevity cost. Any race related product is like that. Personally, the logo being printed on the riding surface is so bad ass, like formula one tires. Bet it looked pretty flash when you first mounted 'em. I've been building up a single speed time machine for about a year, and it's become a bit of a passion project, worthy of some light, high performance, cool looking tires. The single speed is a highly modified 80's MIYATA 310 road frame. Vintage rims and hubs, vintage NITTO bar and stem, chromoly seatpost, full carbon saddle, modern FSA crank bolted to vintage SUGINO 52 tooth chainwheel, thread-on 16 tooth freewheel cog, gold super heavy duty half-link BMX chain, LOOK clipless, Continental Gatorskins. Coincidentally, I too am riding 23 up front, 25 in rear, though next set up will likely be 25/28. She's fast. So this bike deserves some race-day lookin tires. My question is price and do they come in conventional clincher style, as I'll be mounting on 35 year old rims. Your bike is pretty rad, black on black save for the tan/skin walls. Big fan of tan walls, but I've given up on my old PANARACER habit for faster rolling options. On my PINARELLO, which is, big surprise here...red, black and white, I've accented it with gold cable housing and chain. By the way, the gold cable housing is gorgeous, made by BOX, for BMX racing, is ridiculously light and rigid. Had to order two packages to cable a road bike, and being brake cable specific, I used it for my shift cables as well and has worked fine. Anyway, finally finished this red black white and gold beauty with reddish-brown BROOKS bar wrap and CONTINENTAL GP 5000's with the reddish brown sidewalls. It's lovely to look at.

      Hi Karl. Thanks for your comment! These are the clincher version. I was riding them with latex inner tubes. I’ve also been experimenting with different sizes. Currently I’m running the 28mm tubeless version which I don’t particularly like and have just ordered the clincher version again in 25mm. I love the feel and speed with latex tubes. I buy them from bike 24 an online store in Germany. It’s hard to find these in Korea. They are 35 Euros each + shipping. Not cheap but not expensive compared to others. And yes they are performance focused at the expense of durability. It would be interesting to see your bike! You should film it and post it to RUclips! 👍 Thanks again!

      @@BikeLife154 These things with a latex inner tube probably feel, respond and roll as fast as the old, super supple, silk cased/latex tubed Clement Criterium Seta Extra tubulars of yore (late '60s to late '70s)!! 👍

      @@LS1conehead I don’t know about that I’m only in my 50s 😂 On smooth roads with latex tubes they are really fast, light and responsive! One negative is they always come out narrower than stated. My 25s are more like a 24 on a rim with 19mm internal width. I wish they would offer a 28 in the race and not just the evo.

    Supple and fast, worth an extra 1 Kph I’d say from my experience. Doesn’t sound much but that’s a couple of seconds over your average segment on Strava.

    • @BikeLife154
      @BikeLife154  3 года назад +1

      On a local steep 2km climb here I’m 2nd and 1st place is only 3kph faster which translates to a 1min 12sec time difference! Divide that by 3 and that’s 24 seconds for a 1kph difference in speed up hill! That’s huge! I do agree though generally. I took one KOM by only 2 seconds. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment Mr Scagnetti!

    Thank you for the review. I was considering buying a pair of these but probably won't as you pointed out issue about durability

      They are great tyres though! If you want durability and speed with lots of grip then you should buy Vittoria Corsa 2.0 tyres. Great too! Thanks for watching it!

      @@BikeLife154 thank you. I bought a pair of Vittoria G+ Speed TLR 2.0, the tire that has the lowest RR on the bicycle rolling resistance website last Black Friday at a 50% discount but haven't used them yet. I just wasn't too sure if they're gonna last. I'm considering selling those for a small profit and buying some pleb level tires and not pretend that tires are gonna help me go any faster

    What is the TPI count on these, and the casing material?

    • @BikeLife154
      @BikeLife154  Год назад +1

      Hi David. These tyres have a TPI of 350. And the casing is cotton. Very supple but also delicate. Best used for race day or on good roads as you probably will get less than 3000km from them in my experience. Thanks for watching!

    Did you test the Veloflex Evo? Would be nice a comparison with the race version.

    • @BikeLife154
      @BikeLife154  2 года назад +1

      Hi Fabian. I have the Evo TLR tyres on the bike at the moment. The Race version were the clincher tyres fitted with latex tubes so not really comparable I know. One thing I can tell you is, I don’t like the tubeless version of these tyres! Not as supple and not as fast IMO. I would even say harsh. The clincher Race tyres with latex tubes were so smooth and fast and that’s what I’m going to go back to! Personally, I think if you had an Evo and a Race both in clincher form there wouldn’t be a noticeable difference tbh. Hope that’s helpful!

  • @albr4
    @albr4 3 года назад

    to me, veloflexes are for racing. They are not durable and that is clearly reflected by the fact they are much lighter than other tyres. They will wear faster.

    • @BikeLife154
      @BikeLife154  3 года назад

      Agreed! I was just curious to see how long they would last in bad conditions. They are great tyres though!

  • @troppoandante

    You are throwing away your tyres way too soon. The effacement of the rear tread pattern does not mean that the tread is worn through, far from it. Veloflex themselves make that clear. The tyres still have more more than half of their lives left by that point.
    The cut to the front's sidewall is a good reason to stop riding that tyre. Tyres can be repaired, however. I always have lengths of tyre casing salvaged from previous tyres that I use to repair such cuts. For glue, I use the cement from inner tube repair kits.

    Thanks for the review. I am looking forward to trying some veloflex Corsa 28mm tyres (older model) in our Australian summer criterium season. They were so cheap on wiggle I thought would give them a go. Fyi, regarding the logo wear I thought I would share this with you..."A unique feature of the Veloflex? The logo on the edge of the tread is the ideal cornering gauge… If you wear out the logo, you’re the king of corners!"

      Thanks for that Richard! I love fast descents with lots of corners so that explains it! I’ve used the older version for many years and I found those to be great tyres! I’m sure you’ll like them. One thing to note though is the older version isn’t recommended for use with carbon wheelsets! Having said that I did use them with carbon rims myself without any problems, but obviously I can’t recommend that! Thanks again!

      I love this! Yeah, it's all about cornering! I've slid on my butt through a lot of intersections in my life. In an attempt to be "king of the corners", haha. All these embarrassing slams were necessary to learn what I can and cannot get away with in regard to high speed, low angle cornering. When I see people's "squared-off" tires I think to myself ,"This guys not having enough fun", not living on the edge. Truth is, likely I'd baby them to preserve the cool logo. Haha.
