That kind of rain will just cause flash floods killing even more ppl and animals then flow into sea. The only way to help Somalia today long term is reversing climate change, planting more trees, building dams that will retain the water and stoping the 30 year conflict that has drained its resources. Its sad but human beings caused this.

My family has not bought groceries in over a year as we dumpster dive for everything. It is disgusting how much perfectly good food is wasted. So many cans of beans are thrown away simply because they got dented for example. Why can't we be sending these non-perishable foods overseas as they are perfectly edible? I am a business owner from Saskatchewan, Canada, and we also facing a major labour shortage in all sectors of the economy. Why are we not allowing educated refugees to move here from drought-ridden regions and help grow our economy? So many questions are being left unanswered by the government.
As a Somali I can tell you are a nice person may god make all your wishes come to pass.
Everything you mention in your comment can be pinned to the gov imposed destruction of the supply chains, Worldwide...including These starving people.

Their government has the resources to take care of its people. They choose not to. Not far from what ours is doing. We just aren’t feeling it yet.
The Somali Government is fragile. It barely has the funds or the capacity of helping its civilians. The areas where those mygrants are coming from are controlled by a terrorist group.

Part of it is the nomadic life style which can no longer sustainable because of aggravating droughts.
I was born and grown up this very place. The fundamental problem of these people is lack good governance. Environmental protection does not exist, trees cutting left catastrophic consequences. Most wild life disappeared in the 40 years because of environmental destruction. Place were covered by forest in 1980s, when I was a teen, are now completely desert.
So, this is partly man made disaster. And, food handout would not help either in the long run. Now-a-days periodic
interesting that Somalia Neighbor countries ( Ethiopia and Kenya ) are very greeny countries. So sad that Somalia is not.
Somalis cut trees since when? What use of trees do Somalis have? Not for building houses when they live in either temporary huts, or houses made of stone, they don't use it for fire because they use coal and branches. Most of the green in Somalia is bushland, which got swallowed by the earth or dried up because the humid winds being diverted due to climate change. It's very unfair of you to portray the victims in this situation as the perpetrators, we need sympathy for these people.
There is no reason that this is happening that isn't because of climate change please don't lie about the issue here when ENOUGH people are ignoring the issue as it is.
@@theassassin9326 Kenya is not a greeny place its high plain just like Somalia, It appears that they don't face the same issues regarding climate change because they have a functioning government who can support its people and not much of Kenya has remained farmers. Maybe you are talking about their neighbors Uganda and Tanzania which are both rainy Tropical regions
East Ethiopia is also suffering so much because their climate is identical to majority of Somalia which is alot of shrubland and not alot of humid wind and rain.
The reason the impact is much on Somalia and East Ethiopia is because alot of the population is reliant on their pastoral life while living on high plain land which now is not reliable lifestyle due to climate change.

Ethiopia have a very nice claimant much better than many countries in Asia which are far away from the equator.
Eastern Ethiopia in the other hand is mostly only inhabited by Somalis.

Why starvation happens over the world in the first place?

You know what always gets me about the news, the people reporting just report instead of saying "here is some help and we are working on getting you additional help from our viewers" Sure this is a drought issue but they can help with nutrition and possible relocation as well as this man who brings water.

I watched a video on this where a mother said they were traveling on foot to a camp to get help when their youngest child died. They didn’t have the energy to bury him and they couldn’t grieve because a pack of hyenas was stalking them…..they had to move on and leave him in the ditch to be scavenged by wild animals. I almost threw up hearing that.
We live on a planet where we spend trillions on needless wars while children are starved to death and face a fate of being scavenged like road kill. MAY GOD SHOW NO MERCY TO THE POWERS THAT BE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE HUMAN TRAGEDIES.
I saw that too. She had three other children with her (one a baby ) the 3 year old died and they wanted to bury him but were so weak they had no strength, so they left his little body on the hot sand; they heard the hyenas closing in.

Nothing has changed since I've started watching African children and families starving since the 80s. Since I started watching the news in my early teens. I too came from a 3rd world cesspool. Not everyone from my birth country bred more than they can afford to support. Some people are just destined to a life misery. I'm in the USA now. I'm now part of the 1%ers and giving back to orphanages in my birth country. Its ez pz here on out for me. A planet of 8 billion people. Plenty of misery in the news forever.

Somalia's long-lasting famine is tragic, too sad to recount. The environment around the world n in Somalia has been affected by decades of conflict, absence of rain, seriously degraded by poor agricultural practices, deforestation n denuding of grasslands, stripping land of shade n any means of recharging water reservoirs, underground water recharging, no food for people or herders, heartbreaking. Must help by cutting human population to help Nature recover n become productive again, and end the wars.

It's not selfish..though I too feel the inequity of it all! Most people in USA have huge mortgages, rents, electric, insurance and food and petrol are very high. People living on the streets in USA, some can't pay rent even with a job and the whole family lives in the car.

Food supplies and other necessities will be taken away by those toting guns, and the poor will have to pay them. to get what they need. Instead of sending them money, we should send people to teach the Somali people permaculture and how to reforest deserts. Permaculture forces all rain or snow run off to percolate into the land rather than letting it run out to sea or lakes where it evaporates quickly when hot. More land is going to turn into desert if we don't start capturing virtually every bit of rain and snowmelt run off through permaculture. If all landowners were made to do permaculture projects on every bit of land from the high mountains to foothills to the valleys, almost all rain and snow run off would be forced to percolate into the ground instead of flooding or running off to the ocean. The land owners would do the work but would benefit from having healthier and more fertile soil. Other benefits from extensive permaculture is healthier forests, more water for farmers, refilling underground aquafers, less chances of flooding, and a much better local environment that's full of plants that can feed the country and are soaking up all CO2 from the air.
We have. There is the Peace Corp among others but it's weird that digging wells and just getting clean water had been a tough thing for decades.

Climate change /draught/famine is felt very much in the horn of Africa as its evident in the above news @ the courtesy of the Abc news the draught impact is more so felt in the livestock starving as well as people more so children are dying of acute malnutrition nutrition cases .diarrhoea respiratory disease .
