Well Kevin was talking out of his butt, because the spacing of the shaft should allow that little piece of metal in there. That gap is what determines whether or not it's gapped correctly. If Kevin is mounting it so that the metal does not fit through the gap, he's been mounting all of these super expensive boats incorrectly.
if the electric wiring is between the hull and deck and they seal it up... then if a wire internally breaks I would say for maintance it would be near impossible to fix internal wires without cutting the deck from the hull again.
