Whether you prefer their early or later sound, dri never falls flat. Ever.
22 songs in less than 20 minutes...
We simply could not believe such a violent piece of music was possible...
Total game changer when it came out in 1983!
and on 7 inch....
@@simosimov3826 truth
if memory serves it was a 33rpm 7"
Check out Lock Up with Nicholas Barker on drums and some Napalm Death/At the Gates members, short songs, short albums.

In May 1987 I bought Reign In Blood. To me, it weas the most brutal album ever released. Then, a short while later, I bought this. I was blown away by the intensity and energy of it. I still love it to this day.
How do you understand what they are saying? I really am trying hard but it's impossible for me 😅
Blew me away at 13 when it came out. It was raw, new, and freaking perfect!
Bought this when it came out and still have it. Listening to this for the first time in 1983 literally blew my socks off. I couldn't believe a band could play this fast and be this good.
I always thought as a kid that it was incredible that Minor Threat's complete discography was 26 songs on just 47 minutes. Then you hear something like this which is absurdly awesome.
Imagine listening to this for first time back in that time
i heard it when it came out, changed my life.... and saw them at a bowling alley in Green Bay Wisconsin in 1984. it was great!!!!
I did... we had it cranked on my friends boombox while skating lol
I did, it was fucking great
Never understood Crossover, but this?...now, I GET this!
This album changed everything. They are selling it again at beer city records. I finally have my own copy .
My CD is so torn up. got it at Wax Trax in what used to be Capitol Hill in Denver, which is now a fucking Hooverville. Beer City Records. I'll pass on the good word. Thanks Mike ! Fuckin' A.
my first hc album.............
but if you wanna it try with finland hc bands.......cheersssss.......punk rock......rule....................
incident in music industry.............war crimes...............
but it wasnt an album it was a 7 inch you played at 33.
59 and wore this vintage piece out!
The best EVER!!! so influential band and yet totally underrated e.p.
Good old American punk, this and dealing with it their best.
I honestly prefer this to the crossover stuff that came later.
I Prefer the crossover .
Dont lie...
word...this is just raw peice of bloody meat compared to the crossover fruitcake shit
@@downallyourstreets I prefer the Crossover stuff much better , but their early albums are fun to listen too .
Their hardcore stuff is better. Their material after dealing with it wasn't as good.
I don't consider myself a thrashcore fan but after listening to this, I can say I am.
This ain't thrashcore my brother
yep this is not thrash, this is plain old school hardcore punk rock and its awesome.
I would call it thrashcore just not thrash metal.
@@steveg8102 I would call it thrashcore just not thrash metal. Let me explain. Hardcore punk that was extremely fast would be described as thrashcore.
@@steveg8102 But then again I know where you're coming from when the term thrashcore is used. It could also mean the Crossover era when thrash metal and hardcore punk bands combined sounds. They were also called thrashcore, metalcore, or Crossover thrash, and this record is nothing like that like you said.
Great... For 1983 this was fast hardcore!
For 2024, this is fast hardcore...
Brilliant and groundbreaking. We all know this album and their next two were foundatial in bringing the two scenes together, for better or worse.
My favorite record by DRI it's fuckin flawless 🔥🔥🔥🔥
true one.................
Absolutely 💯!
The record I got along long time ago is only a 7". I don't know how many copies they released, I think some told maybe 500 or 1000 then it was re-released as a 12". Lotsa band back then could only afford to pay for 500 or so. It was DIY at a very early date. DRI were playing around Texas a fair amount back then .Classic DiY touring. They would, if lucky ,make some gas money to go forward or back home. Locals would let them sleep at their places, blah blah . . . Sorry for sounding like you all don't ... Point is their shows were Very cool, pardon the phrase, they KILLED . . . So did Really Red, The Dicks, the Stains (MDC) Big Boys, the tragic Bobby Sox and Mite Vomit, the offenders yadda yadda yadda and the songs go on forever, even if the artist (or whatever you want to call them) don't. People pick up their spirits and roll on with it, then move on and the revolutions rolls over again and the kids pick it up and take it forward. One of these days it will happen
First proto blast.
I always loved this album..Ahead of its time..Fast foward, a few years..They fused it with metal, the birth of crossover..How many bands followed? Alot..Though it may be a passing fad, But, still great today..Wow.
Their golden years, coupled with,"dealing with it"....Their crossover years was cool, for awhile..Bands like EXCEL, with the punk mentality, metal sound..A crucial time of music then, moved forward exploring a conglomerate of upcoming bands..But, yeah.
David Perez i agree with you bro.. like suicidal tendencies had their own killer style...but then came, suicidal rock join the army. Wtf..still haven't got over that..
Pig Children
1. Sad to be
My mommy says I should join the church
The mad man tells me what I'm worth
True, it's clear, he beats me down
Makes me bitter, makes me frown
Till I myself as a human being
Hide my eyes to what I see
I myself as a human being
Hide my eyes to reality
Me, alone, I really wonder why
All alone I wonder why I try
When life itself depresses me
And everything else, it's sad to be
2. War crimes
You should have gone to Canada
You could have run away
But you couldn't shame your parents
You say you had to stay
So you get yourself drafted
So you went ahead and went
And you thought you'd be a hero
And not a dissident
War Crime... War Crime
You used to be a good boy
You used to be the best
Then you tried the drug
Ad you dreamt about the west
Everyone's your enemy
Everyone's your friend
Your world was upside down
To kill was not to sin
So you shot the wrong woman
Or you shot the wrong kid
Now Sam will make you regret
That you ever did
But you had no choice
You were told what to do
Orders from the helicopter crew
War Crime... War Crime
Back home they wanted blood
For the atrocities
For the innocent who died
On they're TVs
They demanded justice
They demanded you
They wanted to watch you hang
Till you turned blue
War Crime... War Crime
And the president said that that's OK
Because it takes they're attention away
From the real crime, the war
There are no war crimes
War is the crime
3. Busted
Police drive by, I hold my breath
I've got 10 warrants for my arrest
They stop at the light and whip it around
Ten minutes later I'm headed downtown
Free Ride
Busted...stepped out of line
Busted...no place to hide
Busted...couldn't pay my fines
It makes no sense to live this way
But I'm gonna do it anyway
Busted...for being me
Busted...for being free
Busted...can't pay my bail
Busted...I'll die in jail
It makes no sense to live this way
But I'm gonna do it anyway
4. Draft me
Draft me...I want to have fun
Draft me...give me a gun
Draft me...I'd understand
Draft me...I want to be a man
I want to help America keep the peace
I want to be a trooper in the world police, Draft me
5. F.R.D.C.
I'm a first round draft choice... 19
A man without a choice... unseen
Feedback from society
Please...A reason
For Kampuchia
The problems in Korea
The wars in Iran
Afganistan
Argentinas Falkland Islands
6. Capitalist suck
Capitalist Suck
Capitalist Suck
Capitalist Suck
You can't tell your wants from needs
You buy America and do a good deed
Create a job, don't bite the hand that feeds
Capitalist Suck
Capitalist Suck
Capitalist Suck
All of your goals are the fucking same
As every other jerk in this stupid game
Your brains have been washed and hung out to dry
You don't doubt it and you don't know why
7. Misery loves company
What they have now
They want for me
Misery loves company
Live a life of bigotry
On the way to bankruptcy
Beer belly and family
Crackers, cheese and burgundy
You're life's no anomaly
Live your life accordingly
Wake up to the certainty
Of ageing and misery
No real love just cake and tea
No road to recovery
Live the life of drudgery
Same old shit, housewivery, fakery, tracery, misery
8. No sense
The generals say they make good sense
A strong economy? First a strong defence
That makes sense
They make sense to me
The Air force says they need new planes
As they prepare for strafing raids
And the Army, of course, needs more men
So they can fight and kill and win
That makes sense
They make sense to me
The Navy says they need more ships
So they can float and shoot and shit
They also say they need machines
To run they're little submarines
That makes sense
They make sense to me
9. Blockhead
You work all day to earn your pay
To pay off all your debts
You rent your square to live in
And that's the best it gets
Cubical man does what he can
To keep himself alive
Pays his share for his little square
In order to survive
Locked in a race, the money chase
The systems fooling you
The more you make the more they take
And there's nothing you can do
Cubicle man does what he can
To keep himself alive
Pays his share for his little square
In order to survive
Run your ass to get your check
Stand in a crowded line
Pay your bills and buy the pills
That help you to unwind
Cubicle man does what he can
To keep himself alive
Pays his share for his little square
In order to survive
You buy a chair for your little square
So you can sit and hide
But you're all alone you fucked up clone
'Cause no one's on your side
The game of fools has its rules
So don't you fall behind
They'll take your square 'cause they don't care
They've got they're home-free ride

Great Ep, thanks to this band, my life was directed towards hardcore.
i have it original 500 copies made !!! Bough it in 1984 then met theyr bass player here
Still got this and still a classic hardcore record..shame they went downhill after dealing with it.
WHAT???? ? ????????
I tell my friends crossover is 🗑️
Yep. The only band that did crossover right was Corrosion of Conformity (Animosity album)
They only went downhill after the 80's. Their Crossover stuff was mostly as good or better.
If you grew up in the 80's in Tampa, this was it. You were lucky to see them with locals Belching Penguins.
I live in Dunedin. I know the circle jerks are playing in November. Bit how do I find bands playing close to Clearwater and where do they play at here?
What about No Fraud?
@@hankgege2199No Fraud! Awesome band
I love your misspelling in you track list "Monkey Stinks" 😂
Nobody has done anything remotely as bad-ass and groovy as this album since 1983. Still an all-time freaking masterpiece!!!
Warms my heart to hear folks say that about this album. DRI used to split atoms on stage. I was beside myself. Bad Brains, MDC, DRI, SS Decontrol, Scream. Oh joy!! lol
Actually other bands stepped in to carry the torch loud and proud. Tragically it was DRI themselves that abandoned this sound for their metal crossover flavour on their very next release.
@@deejaaywalker2314Are you talking about Dealing With It? To an extent I agree but in my opinion it still had that hardcore style more than the metal creeping in but production wise they stepped up. But Dealing With It is still raw compared to their later albums. I actually enjoy their metal period because Kurt still had his hardcore style of singing and lyrics were still political/social. I think Crossover and 4 of A Kind were better crossover albums than Animosity and Join The Army.
@@hankgege2199 Their departure from one genre to the next wasn't fully realized from one release to the next, but clear differences could be heard and each subsequent release confirmed suspicions where they were headed. They lost me after Dealing with it. I saw them touring that release in Montreal along with heavy metal legends Voivod in 1986. Sadly, once was plenty.
check out this one hc mexican band from the 90s called “Atoxxxico” they definitely got influenced by dri and specially if u listen to their album “Tu Tienes La Razón” you’ll notice it its a really great album from the mexican hc scene
Perfect ! Kroezel

I was on holidays in Boston in 1986 when I bought this album for $2. The thing is over the years it disappeared into the fifth dimension never to be seen again. It literally vanished! It's a great album though & I now have the expanded edition on cd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping the username is a not too subtle take at/on Stark Raving Mad and their 1st 12''?
17 minutes
Yes, D.R.I.'s No Sense song features one of the first blast beats in 82/83. And Meat Puppets as well with probably the very first song to feature blast beats since the track is so fast, their HAIR song recorded in 1981, which is also a hardcore/brutal/metal crossover since later in this song it gets metal with metal lead guitars: ruclips.net/video/EpgY2GxwquE/видео.html
Dude, if you've never heard of Capitalist Casualties then definitely check them out. Same era and just as, (if not more), amazing!
@@billytaylor135Not the same era. Capitalist Casualties began in the late 80's but they were a great thrash band and were heavily influenced by early DRI.

Influential and obviously badass, but Dealing With It was the superior thrashcore album by D.R.I.
The fastest band around in 1983? If not, I don't know who was.
Minor Threat's guitarist Lyle Presner could cook this fast. I've gotta mention Bad Brains, who could take 'em : play Joshua's Song.
Youth Korps and Neos just to name two.

Cryptic Slaughter..C.O.C..
Also very fast Hüsker Dü Landspeed era and MDC at that time.

Wait, didn’t the 7” started with track 10 as the a side in which case this is flipped
Wouldn't that mean sad to be was the first track?
musical incident.................
This was a 45!
This is pure hardcore. The scene was ruined (at least in the sf Bay Area)when thrash metal came around and then the long hairs showed up and the positive vibe disappeared. I don’t hold it against these these guys though. They were GREAT live
What did the metalheads do to you man
@@onutube6392 He couldn't keep up with the music or the drinking of the Metalheads.
@@onutube6392 they changed the whole vibe. Punks in weren’t psychotic as long hairs. Slamming became moshing. It was a lot more violent. Plus head banging was fucking stupid
@@darrinc100 far as i can tell punks always been negative since its inception the 2 exceptions being ska punk, and pop punk to my knowledge, but pop punk is dogshit. Hardcore was always loud angry and fast, and other than the straight edge dudes the punks always had the crazier drugs, outside of megadeaths infamous heroin and coke addictions, most of the metalheads i know were more on the side of just smoking pot and drinking. Never saw any of my friends that listen to metal drinking lean or doing molly, only the alt punk kids. I know are the ones doing that, also, from my dads experience as a punk and crossover fan in the 80s, as far as he's told me, as long as there weren't punks or posers at the show, the thrashers were cool. On the other hand at the more punk oriented stuff he was at, there was almost always a group of nazi skins just ganging up and beating the shit out of anyone who got near em. Told me that he's seen em smash glass bottles on the ground and pull crowd surfers down and beating them into the broken glass. Finally, the thrashers know the one essential rule of the pit: no one wants to see karate kid impersonators flailing their arms about and punching people any thrash or death show I've been to, there wasn't a single karate dick there. However, my friends old band had deathcore influences, and deathcore pits are fucking cancerous.Got spin kicked in the stomach 2 separate times at their shows by some asshat wearing their glasses in the pit
