  • There are some musical voices that are undeniably distinct and have the ability to create a romantic atmosphere for lovers. One of those voices belongs to singer and songwriter Barry White. White’s bass-baritone voice and romantic image have produced some of music’s best-loved tunes like “You’re the First, My Last, My Everything,” and “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love Babe.” White had 41 platinum albums and 10 platinum singles by the end of his career. But White’s life and career have also seen its downs, and his life was hampered by various health ailments that eventually led to his death.

Barry’s arranger, who almost never gets mentioned, was Gene Page! He wrote the string, horn and flute parts. Gene and Barry were very good friends and both passed at exactly 58 yrs old. How about a “thumbs up” for Gene Page??

I went to his home in Encino in the late 1970’s: what a castle. All his servants were white and wore Nehru jackets. The diamond on his wife’s finger as shown in the video was Huge. His kids were all well mannered and he ran tight ship. The guest house on his property was nicer than 99% of the houses in the Valley. His next door neighbor was Gordon Lightfoot. Nice guy and he was a giant man.

Mr White was a great producer, arranger, songwriter, musician, composer and entertainer. That is a title not many can claim, they are either one or the other but not all. Here is a man with a twelfth grade education doing things people went to school to learn. Barry Whites music is extremely underrated. Just listen to his music without any lyrics. The orchestration is next level. Couldn't read a lick of music and played seven instruments. Some of his music should be in the Smithsonian Institute. I saw him perform forty five years ago at Madison Square Garden and that concert is still ringing in my ears. To this day I listen to his music in bed and fall asleep. The only was to describe him is GENIUS!!! RIP Maestro.

Thank you for doing this. Barry White, is my all time favorite musician; I followed his career from 1970; his talent went largely unrecognized by most.
It always seemed to me that there was an underlying thread of sadness in this beautiful man. I could never put my finger on it, until after his death, and his life story was revealed. I believe he was a gentle soul that sought an unconditional love he never quite found.
    He was gone too soon.

To me the people who booed Barry are beneath him because he went up there and gave it his all even though his health was not all good but he gave it his all for his fans who loved him I thought. I feel sorry for all the a holes that booed him for this great man for his great music that he gave us the love of his music and legacy that he left behind.

How did those who booed at him while on stage feel after finding out that he had health issues? And that he died because of that.

I love Barry White he does not get the credit he deserves writer producer singer arranger. Responsible for more kids being born than any other singer. His arrangements are flawless. He made orchestral music cross over . But he is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and sold over 100 million records. And last look at all the great artists that played with him before they became famous. Ray Parker Jr. , Kenny G, and Nathan East just to name a few. We need to get BW in the Rock Hall!!!!!!

I remember watching Barry White during an interview and he stated that his mother had a master's degree in music. Supposedly this began his love of music. He didn't mention anything about gang-banging.

TRUE. That's important. Shameful that his kids couldn't see their father. That should never have happened.
