“Be Positive, Stay Sharp”. This video was an incredible education on how to sharpen our chisels! The money I will save will more than pay for this machine. The time I save by driving and dropping off and hopefully picking up by Friday. I can finish my job the same day I start it. As Always, thank you to Sedge, Big “D” and the team.
One of the best comments you made in this video is that people won't know whether the bevel is not exactly at 25°. Within proximity is good. Hello to BIG D, a good student who is willing to learn from a very good and patient teacher. 🍁
I don’t know if you realize this or not, but you can use the tool rust on the leather strap as well. There are two settings on the gauge block and one of them has a special Astrik on it that is meant for the diameter of the leather strap. You re-mount the chisel in that chisel holder and then use the gauge block to set it at your 25° and then you end up with a perfectly polished edge versus having to rock it in.
@@bombingblokeunsolicited advice here: get at least two sharpeners so you have two wheels and two different strops. Also, I would suggest checking in with businesses beforehand and see if they send their knives out or sharpen them in house. Also, chain saw chains are good money and fast to do (if there is demand)
I have the T-7 and got a package deal that came with every attachment they made at the time. I believe since the T-8 came out they have added a few attachments. A friend has the T-8 and I have tried it out and there is a definite improvement over the T-7. Sedge do you have the Tormek cabinet with it also? I know that thing is heavy. Good video guys! Also a couple of companies carry a diamond stone but only the Tormek diamond stone works with water but you have to use an additive. The good thing about the diamond stone is that you don’t have to grade the stone and the stone always stays the same diameter.
Thanks Ron....yes that is a Tormek cabinet...it is very solid and all the inserts for the accessory cases fit perfect in the drawers !!! Tormek is a GREAT system ....hmmm .....the diamond wheels do look good....
Love my tormek... for heavy grinding i have a low speed grinder with an 80g wheel the low speed coarse grit really helps with not overheating. Aside from that, i sharpen everything including my kitchen knives on the tormek. Such a well built machine its built like a tank there is a reason its got the price it does its worth it. less is more with the technique , light even pressure i feel cuts faster and keeps the stone truer longer.
Thank you for this video - subscribed! I am buying the Tormek for my 15-yr old son. He wants to start a business sharpening . . . . anything. Do you have a suggestion of what jig/project would be a good place to start to learn. Did you say this comes with band-aids? Oh, Dear. I was thinking to buy the t-8 bundle, cabinet, swivel, water tray, and chemicals for the water. ?? Suggestion?
Welcome aboard! The T-8 is an awesome machine. The T-8n bundle is the way to go.....I would have your son start with a simple chisel and go from there...
out of curiosity, how do you store your grinding wheel, does the standard grind stone need any anti-corrosion additive to the water if you don't use it for longer periods of time? great video.
I am buying a T8. I will use it almost exclusively to sharpen chisels and plane irons. Do you recommend substituting the CW-220 composite honing wheel or sticking with the traditional leather, given my purposes? Thanks.
@@sedgetool I sqeezed the trigger yesterday and went for CW-220, based on consensus of experienced users I canvassed, also with understanding that leather would have been perfectly fine as well. I've been sharpening with high speed grinder followed by soft and then hard black Arkansas stones for almost 50 years, so Tormek is a change. With it, will the honing wheel eliminate the need to use my stones, or will it just replace the phase where I used my old grinder? Thanks.
Great video Sedge. I am trying to figure out what type of sharpening system I want to go with. The stones seem messy and complicated. How much did you play for the Tormea
hey sorry a bit late, but i just got mine, you only need the factory stone for wood tools, i never use the rough or course side of the stone, only the fine. the good thing about tormek is how little material you remove to get the tools sharp, its worth it
Hey guys, thanks for another nice Video. I have learned a lot from your video lessons. I also have a tormek and I am having an issue with it. Regarding the sharpness I get good results. My Problem is that I cannot get a 90 degree angle between side of the blade and the cutting edge. I have tried to Check with a 90 degree angle etc but the edges wohnt come out in 90 degrees. That counts for my chisels and for my planer irons. I think it has something to do with the two adjustment screws on the top of the chisel attatchment. Maybe you have an idea what to do. Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany.
@@robertkolbe3751 Try mailing the Tormek support, they are amazing and might have some trick for you to resolve the issue! They also have a lot of videos of instructions.
Robert, I know they changed the design on the new square edge jig. I have however the old one, and I found out when grinding older chisels/plane irons that the edge of the blade itself is not 90 degrees, so all I had to do was tap it a little bit with a small hammer. cumbersome process but it got me the results I wanted. Hope this helps Martin
I have the T4 but nothing left to sharpen right now! 😩😩😩 It’s so ironic that the most enjoyable tools never need to be used for very long because they’re so accurate and efficient. 😂😩🤷♂️
Paul... yes ,most of the time I use sandpaper method to lap the back of a chisel. ...I have also just started using the side of the T8 stone to do some

I'm not sure what I enjoy more, the information you share or the accent! Thank you Sedge.

Literally just got one this week. Very happy so far. Have started with old knives and quite happy with my results and know I will only get better.

The angle gage should be on both the tip as the stone to be accurate. Not all the way up te chisel.
