I recently left my S8+ and bought a XZP. The sheer speed upgrade is really incredible. The smaller battery in the XZP lasts just as long on average. There are a few things I miss about the S8+ but the Sony is the king for me at the moment. Both amazing phones.
Sony needs to market the HELL out of this phone! This could be their chance at taking a larger market share in the U.S.!
unfortunately, Sony disabled the fingerprint scanner on that phone for the US. So I don't think they are targeting the US in the first place.
It's an agreement with a US carrier that will expire next year, which means FP scanner will finally be available for US models.

True!! Sony is faster, better resolution and more secured. And the Xperia XZ also has the better sensor in the front selfie camera (13MP versus the Galaxy’s 8MP). Also, the Xperia XZ has the better rear camera, with a 19MP lens versus the 12MP found on the S8 and S8+.
more pixels doesn't mean better camera!) It's actually the opposite. The more pixels you have the smaller each pixel is, the less light it can gather. So, more pixels can be better only if you make the sensor size equally bigger, witch is not the case here.
samsung like many other smartphone manufacturers are using sony sensors. And the best camera is pixel. Because software.

I prefer more Xperia and not Samsung, the design maybe not the best, but for me the XZ series have great specs, works really great for games, retro HD emulation and some GC and Wii games run perfectly! (Too bad Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door is buggy as hell, runs perfectly on my Xperia phone)
Sony need 2 switch over to AMOLED.. I dont care how fast or optimised Sony is.

This is a good comparison, but the day to day usage of galaxy slows down as time passes. Idk what it is but all the Galaxy I owned gets slower with months of usage. So I switched to Sony z3 and it never lost its performance with all these years. Sony just does it so much better. Never Samsung again.

Well i have the samsung s8+,and selling it for the sony,samsung optimization is a piece of crap.,i am a samsung fanboy but had enough of bad optimization and slow updates and everyday usage of handiing the phone is awkward.

I own the XZ Premium and the UI is flawless. If you're a Samsung fan but want something top of the line in speed and performance for every day use....... the Sony XZ Premium is the king of 2017 phones so far.
both running SD835, why is the Sony so much faster? It even has a 4K display. App starts practically instantaneously on the Sony while there's always a lag/wait on the Samsung. Samsung needs to work hard on its software. Sony, pls make this phone in the compact size, 1080p or 720p is fine. My X Compact is pretty great. But this one here is just incredible.

Have been using Sony since my 1st mobile(which was a Sony Ericsson hahah) in 2006, where i'd upgrade each year through the Walkman series then the Cybershot, and then the Xperia began to dominate.
Changed through about 5 Xperia models due to one common problem - battery overheat(literally, but not to Note 7 level), causing phone battery to drain to 0 quick and turn off by itself. I loved the Sony phones because it looks so sleek & has really good camera, no doubt.
It was when i changed to Samsung S5, to so-called "try and breathe a new air" and apparently fell in love with it. Following year changed to S7edge due to nice offers given by my telco, loved the phone, and subsequently changed to the S8 when it came out, which i'm using now, and loving it too
The Samsung S8+ may not top off against the XZ due to speed in this video, but from my experience in using the Samsung phones, they stand pretty solid as an OVERALL phone(including the S5 and the S7 Edge). But if the XZ promises to not have the same problems as the Xperia phones i've had before, I may just consider going back to my love for the Xperia phones. Always had been eyeing on the recent Xperias released, but the constant same problems i've had in the older models stops me from wanting to get the newer ones too. My mum had the Z3 recent and the problems still occured, though.

Aldo Pucci yeah since Samsung being a second mover to the iPhone is the reason for its success. However, in reality Apple+Samsung's foundation lays on Sony Technology, iPhone was inspired by Sony and Walkman was the reason for the iPod(Steve Jobs was biggest Sony Fanboy). Samsung can thank Sony for OLED, lithium ion batteries and Exmor RS Camera sensors.

A suggestion : Add an "app loading" speed test by disabling the animations from developer options. (They have quite an impact on performance - personal experience)
Got my Sony Xperia XZ Premium two days ago (Chrome colour)
So far......I love this phone. Sony has really outdone themselves with this phone imho.
It is indeed blazingly fast. The screen is beautiful and colours really pop on it.
Also, the camera is very good with the predictive capture function and the slo mo filming both being great.
For me I would definitly recommend this phone. Sony has made a phone as good (and in some ways better) as anything made by any other company.
that's why I love Sony
samsung has bigger screen and more slim design and its VR compatible so im good with Samsung.

ive only owned one samsung phone for the past few years and ive always desired a sony or huawei as they are way better and cheaper in south africa, the cheapest xz is 10k while the cheapest s8 is 17.5k (rands not dollars) and there is lot you can buy for 7.5k , even the xz premium which comes next month for us is still cheaper than the standard s8, most people in south africa want other phone brands that arent iphone and samsung which is why the p10 has a 5month waiting period for delivery as a lot of people have ordered it and want it, the xz premium has already a 2 month waiting period

The XZ Premium dominated 2017, nothing came close. Stop reading these biased websites the get paid by manufacturers. Sony has superior TVs, cameras, and smartphones.... Pick one up and test it for yourself in a store.. XZ Premiums are superior compared to the "other" 2 manufacturers...

Spills Untold even though it takes images before you press the button , It has to take another pictures after you click the button. then it has to process all 4 pictures . I think that's why we see it as little slow to capture an image but in reality it already took 4 images.

Actually the Sony seems to have the faster response time to each press. That's why it seems faster. This may be attributed to the adware and additional functionality that Samsung has in its phones. I've been a Samsung user for many years. Lag tends to crop up with their phones. I've also been a Sony user for a couple of phone models.
Now we definitely have a winner. That on top of other advantages for the XZP versus the Galaxy..
Battery: 3230 mAh vs 3000
Screen: 800+ ppi vs 570, standard format vs narrow and elongated
Camera: 19 Mpix vs 12, front 13 vs 8, 960 fps vs 240
Sound: stereo vs mono, front vs bottom speaker, stereo vs mono recording
Fingerprint scanner: ideal placement vs worst
Back: stability vs oscillations, resting on the frame vs the glass surface and the lens
And things that the S8/+ don't have: remote PS4 compatible, noise cancelation, unlockable bootloader with Sony's approval and official guide, dedicated camera button, S-Force front surround, LDAC audio, DSEE HX, mirror :-)

correction.... it's a display with a much higher pixel density👆 aka the 4k hdr screen found in the xzp is sharper than any 1440p found on any Samsung phone up to date!
and let's not forget that the Galaxy has a wierd elongated screen wich gives you guys black bars or chops up the content a bit in order to fill the screen. how is that better 😆
RUclips, Amazon and Netflix are all available with 4k content that's enough 4k material if you ask me. and the 4k recording option found in most smartphones isn't useless in the xzp and can actually be utilized and played back in its native resolution on the xzp unlike on the s8 with its maximum output of 1440p 😐

you can still order one from Sony directly. maybe that's an option for you and I recommend to have the European version since the fingerprint scanner on those models are activated as standard.
Both performances are really fast. I mean Sony is faster loading heavy apps... for just a second or so? You can't notice that difference unless you are comparing them side by side.
Both brands are excellent and some people may have their own preferences but in terms of the design the S8 makes the XZ premium look like a 4yo phone.

Sony is the most underrated brand in the market.
I've been using them since I first got the Z1.
And I was an iphone 4 and samsung note user before the sony z1.
I've stucked with them since, holding the z3+ now.
Sony is really durable. Often, phones after 1 and a half months, they showed signs of lag, horrendous battery life and etc, my sony Z1 and Z3+ stayed almost as fresh as brand new, even after 2 years. Still awesome battery life, and great speed still.
Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the best phone of all times for me. This phone brought many things to the table ; First HDR 4k screen, a ram frequency way ahead of its time with 1866 mhz EVEN MORE THAN SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 9(thats why it beats almost all the phones you compare in the speed tests) , First 960 fps video recording... A battery efficiency like an animal (which lasted 3 days and saved my life) ,and an elegant chrome design ...
No wonder my XZ Premium is still faster than the Galaxy S9+

One thing I've noticed with Samsungs is that, at the TOP level, they're fairly inconsistent. They can be brilliant in one instance or terrible in another. For instance if you ran the test a few times, I'm sure the samsung would/could take a few rounds

there was a guy on fb on one of my local dealer fb page about their review, he said that Sony has the worse screen tech and camera performance with very had gamma and accuracy.
I think it's safe to say from this video alone and those on unbox therapy by looking at whites, that the S8 is very, very far off

I tried it myself in the store. even have a friend who's cross shopping and ask for my opinion. First thing i notice was how straining the display was on my eyes even at appropriate brightness. That and how obviosly red the settings menu was. Believe what you will of what I've said, but the S8 display is even worse in *calibration* than a Sony of old.
But i mean, well.. Unless you didn't watch unbox therapy and just think looking at one device in the store is better than having 8 (if i remember correctly) S8 devices in front of you and compared to 3 iphones. then be my guess and question some video evidence of how terribly callibrated the screen is.
You know whats worse? The slider has a very small calibration range, not allowing the user to increase the blues and greens to lessen the red hues.

Had a Note 7 and it got painfully slow after like a week then of course returned it due to the recall. The only decent Samsung phone I've had in terms of speed was the S3. I looked at the XZ Premium today at Best buy. I've never owned a Sony phone due to the fingerprint being disabled however I now learned the international version has it enabled and works on Att PLUS ITS CHEAPER THAN THE U.S VERSION. I currently own a U11 and the XZ just feels more natural to hold and use. Even the vibration feedback when making selections on screen feels much better. On paper the XZ is heavier than the U11 but it feels lighter due to its size. Cannot wait to get my XZ!! 😁
Since the display standard and the basic specifications of the application are different, it is normal that the driving is slowed a little.

Say what you like man. I've used multiple Samsungs in my life, had millions of complaints against all of them. Tried Sony for once, stayed with Sony ever since. And guess what? My old Z1, Z3+ are functioning perfectly till now, and is serving as my wi-fi only phone while I charge my XZ premium.
That's something you don't see happening for Samsungs. Heck, their phones aren't even good for use after 1 and half years. Their specs dropped so drastically after that, battery life as well, while my Sony phones are still functioning perfectly. Especially using just wi-fi now, they can last 2-3 days on a single charge.
Sony needs to get out of the Android market, and start making phones built around their PlayStation OS and ecosystem. They have had arguably the best Android phones on the market for the last 5 years, yet sales have fallen more than 70 %. They are selling less phones than PlayStations for the first time ever. There is no growth on Android for Sony, there are not profits to be made on Android. As a Sony users I want the PlayStation expereince on my Phone and TV, I love my Bravia Z9D, and the Xperia Z3 I had, but Android is just not a good match for Sony. Sonys products need an OS that matches the beauty and optimization of its hardware and software. PlayStation 4 shows what Sony customers want, give us the same expereince on mobile, and sales will stop this massive tumble.

what is SailfishOS/Jolla? they where created by ex-nokia MeeGo/maemo(Nokia N9/N900) team who wanted to continue that part of Nokia's work.

sony is maybe not selling that well (compare to samsung) but that is mostly to do with the focus on the high end side, last year Sony was more profitable than Samsung (mobile) and this is mostly because most samsung users buy a low-end or midrange phones and only 1/10 of their users have highend ..when compare to Sony usersbase who have Highend or at times a midrange one
Sony hasn't really any interest to change drastically as this seems to "work" for them just fine (at least in EU and Asian market where most of their focus is)
As expected. The Premium destroys the Galaxy S8 in performance. And in terms of design as well, I think the Premium looks way better. :D

This year is the first time for a long time that I have chosen something other than Samsung for my new phone. When Samsung first started with the galaxy they packed in a lot for the money to compete with iPhone. Nowadays they are just trying to keep their number 1 status on the smartphone market, but big players like Sony looking to make a move into the market will give more value for the money to try and make headway. apart from aesthetics, the Sony xz premium seems to beat Galaxy 8 in all meaningful comparisons.
yeah I know Apple has pretty huge margins on their phones, and wouldn't surprise me if Samsung started to as well. don't get me wrong it's a great high quality phone, but some of the little things that aren't marketed (front facing camera for example) are a lot better on the XZP
Did anyone notice the display in S8+ was better than XZ Premium, hey I'm a Sony lover here, and given the 4K HDR display of Sony XZ Premium my expectations are high.

I have an S8 and a Z5 and I'm thinking of getting rid of my Z5 for the XZ Premium because my Z5 over heats. Also, the XZ CLEARLY outperforms the S8. I'm a bit concerned that the XZ over heats though too. 😕
