These Cops Let Me Chase This "DEAD MAN WALKING" Tornado | Monett/Aurora, MO 5/8/2024

- I just acquired my meteorology degree this May and set out to storm chase for a couple weeks. I had been chasing this storm for about an hour on May 8, 2024 before a rear-flank cell merger occurred, quickly inducing tornadogenesis. This EF-1 tornado took on many appearances, including a multi-vortex/dead man walking structure and a cone shape before roping out.
I tracked behind this kraken for over 20 minutes. It caused property damage to outbuildings and a mobile home, but fortunately did not harm any one.
I was fully prepared to yield to the cops in the middle of the video, who were making sure no one accidentally drove into the ongoing tornado. I knew the tornado was moving away from us and I let them know I was chasing it. I think once they also saw my camera gear that they knew I was a storm chaser and let me proceed.
Austin Jones had a great perspective of this tornado, go check out his video!

this is probably the best I've seen in terms of how the sky goes "green" during a tornado
"Going green..." - Bill Paxton
The sky turning green essentially actually means nothing when it comes to tornados. You’re just looking straight up into the core of a strong meso.
The only thing it can usually indicate is that there is VERY large hail falling up in there.
@blakebarber6935 well.. yeah? It basically just shows how strong the updraft is and usually indicates a pretty strong storm.
No it's not a tell tale sign of a tornado, but if you're staring straight up into the meso it's ominous either way lol

Bless that officer for putting his own life in danger to try and stop motorists from driving into a tornado! Awesome footage, Gabriel!
Pecos Hank has some pretty spooky looking tornadoe videos over the years, and this ranks right up there with some of his best. Just calm and relaxed no yelling and screaming about the obvious. Nice video
Hanks the goat
@@SyrupIsWinhank is definitely the goat.
I love how calm he is chasing the tornado. I hate screaming lunatics.
Yeah, I can only watch Reed Timmer with the sound off. He drives me insane!
@@missbecky2571 Reed is getting better though, I can't stand the Southern accent yelling about some, "VIO-A-LANT TOR-NAY-DA", lol as if there there are tornadoes that aren't violent HAHAHA gets me every time!
@@ajcook7777 I saw Reed just the other day and he was screaming as usual. And I feel your pain about the violaent tornayda 🤣🤣🤣
But then he ruins the video with stupid music
@@missbecky2571 Can't stand him yelling either. I can't watch his videos and that laugh 😖
0:38 something about seeing a wall of trees and then to see a TORNADO peaking its head out is really stunning... good stuff!
It’s crazy how pitch black it gets when a tornado is coming. Beautiful video!!!
Yeah, I was in one. Only a F2 but it started raining sideways and everything got dark street lights all went off and it was silent… Erie
I love that Cop! He was running from it and tried to protect Gabriel from getting hurt by blocking him..... then he gives him the go ahead to continue chasing. Cops really are awesome people.
Also, loved the footage of the multi-vortex! Great videography!
Some cops are good people. Some cops are not. Just like some people are good people. Some people are not.

Alot of times that dark spot is a gap between clouds!!! ☁️ but rarely its a monster ready to unleash hell on the earth 🌍 🌪️ ❤
When I hear "dead man walking", jarrell '97 is the first thing that comes on my mind. And this gave me jarrell vibes for sure.
Damn every time I think you can't get any closer you keep driving into that thing! Balls of steel and calm as a cucumber makes awesome video!
Fr everytime I chase I tell myself “I’m gonna get closer this time” this guy truly has courage. It’s not easy when it’s actually right there.

I grabbed a snack and sat down to eat it. This was so intense I completely forgot about the snack. An amazing chase. Love and light to the affected families 🖤
This is honestly the clearest footage I've ever seen depicting a dead man walking tornado structure... That's chilling watching how quickly it moves like that.
I was there and chased it also. I chase all over the country but to have this 15 minutes from my house was legendary
Awesome video. No screaming or yelling, just good camera work. That thing changed shapes and multiplied so many times…incredible. Oh, and I loved the music.
I think this is awesome too missbecky2571
Great job buddy... that thing was a mile from my house, hit several friends homes... It sure didn't like big trees... fortunately no one injured! Thanks!
Thank you man! Sorry to hear about the damage, thankful no one was hurt. I love chasing tornadoes but hate seeing the damage they do.
What an eerie video! The music enhances the apprehension. Its like watching a scary movie, knowing something is going to startle you at any moment!👍❤️
I like Reed Timmer's footage but the nonstop screaming makes my ears bleed. This was great. The music was good but a tad loud at times but otherwise quite dramatic without being annoying and me wanting to hit mute lol. Also, props to the steady camera work. Look forward to more. Stay safe!
You probably want a rainbow tornado. I think this quietness is boring and the music makes it seem less serious
I couldn't agree with you more. Reed Timmer's gets to the right spots, he is an amazing chaser. But Reed's screaming is a little exhausting at times.
Rather take excited screaming, over B movie "suspenseful" music......
But its the batman soundtrack 😢@Warclzugritter
I was in aurora during that time, I never knew it was a multi-vortex tornado. I thought it was just a cone
escape from the tornado ❌
go after the tornado ✅
Chefs kiss! 🤌 The music, the footage, the entire video.
Hes got Steppenwolf playing like hes on a psychadelic journey haha love it.
I LOVE that Reed lives rent free in people's heads because in every single tornado video ever they bring him up 😊
That's an extremely childish way to look at things. People criticize Reed BECAUSE he is so good. Unfortunately he is practically unwatchable bc of his big ass mouth. I like Reed and his passion but sometimes I'd like to hear the storm and not him screaming inane BS.
@@suelancaster6959 To be fair I usually have to mute him too, though I appreciate what he does. But it never fails that every tornado video has comments freaking out about how awful Reed is 😵 It's just funny to me and I guess that didn't translate very well in text.
Me and my "extremely childish" self are out. Have a nice day.
I'm glad you're not yelling OH TORNADO HUGE HUGE IN FRONT OF US like 90% of chasers
Dude this music is sick, it really give you the anxiety that must be felt chasing it 👍
I agree
Seen a comment where dude said it wasn't the dead man walking he was dead wrong I seen pretty sure 3 funnels around 345 to 4 min marks
You did a great job filming this. I've seen hundreds of videos over the years and this is one of the best in regards to the contrast and overall picture. You sure can see the green color of the skies, along with the overall way the clouds were forming and moving.
I’m usually not a fan of music in chase videos but this was perfect. Well done!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I'm getting mixed comments on whether or not the music was a good addition, but I personally thought it added to the thrill of the chase, and made it a bit unique compared to other storm chasing videos.
@@gtaylor_wx personally, I totally agree. I feel like storm chasers and the people who watch them live for that adrenaline rush, and the music was so fitting, majestic yet terrifying all the same!❤
@@gtaylor_wxit’s great. People are just too used to screaming 😂
Wow, refreshing situation for me, no screaming. Good chase, amazing capture!
The Joker music!! Perfect for this absolute crazy, unpredictable tornado! "BE the agent of chaos!" "Do I really look like a guy with a plan...?" "What doesn't kill you makes you... stranger." 💀☠️
"Wanna see a trick? I'm going to make this building disappear.............TADA!"
“If you’re good at something, never do it for free”
TOTALLY AWESOME FRIGGIN FOOTAGE.!!!! The music, the chase , the hair on my arms standing straight up. I wanted to be a " Storm Chaser " and this was PHENOMENAL.!!!! Thank you. God bless you and yours. Stay safe, be careful. Happy Chasing.👍💕👀
Incredible chase (and fantastic music choice), I'm glad no one was injured or killed. Best possible outcome, tbh. Stay safe out there and good luck with your studies!
Used to live somewhere southeast to where the tornado struck. These things are very wild experiences, even making me want to try chasing once I'm older and have more knowledge about the weather and these events. Cool vid!
This ROCKS!!!
I got goosebumps from watching this
That was a well done chase my dude 😎 Just came across your channel, the enhance Cinema music made it all the more worth watching great work and chase.
Thank you for risking your safety to bring attention to to these tornadoes. A picture is more alarming than a radar image.
Whenever I hear tornado sirens I just know the whole spooky sound thing is intentional. Its incredibly distinctive, and the terrifying noise is practically guaranteed to get the attention of anyone who hears it. Also props to those cops for doing their best to keep people from wandering into a tornado and having the awareness to do so. Most people killed by tornadoes while driving die because they don't even know its there to begin with, often because the storms are rain wrapped.
Perfect use of the Dark knight soundtrack.
Also I though of that scene in twister.
"We got cows!"
Good filming! Can't say I've never been in that situation before. But you did your best to keep up with that thing and get the life cycle of it.
Looks like a rare circumstance of a dead man walking tornado not killing anyone
Well that’s because it wasn’t.
It’s a general rule of thumb. Dead man walking tornadoes tend to be violent as multivortex monsters, but I’d they don’t hit anything or anyone, no one dies from it. I actually saw a dead man walking tornado as a child but it was weak, only knocked down a few trees.
That Joker buildup sound 😂💯
awesome job, multi vortex are so mesmerizing. Looks like it cycled about three times. that was a long one.
You Americans are crazy-brave!!!
Nah crazy stupid. Most southerners are either. "Get the hell to shelter". Or omg imma watch this outside...there's no middle
Great video Gabriel!
Thanks Max! You’re killing it this year
Excellent choice of music to go with the video. 👍
Great video! 🫣
Excellent video, I appreciate the work and courage
Amazing footage as usual ☺️!!! I love your content and am looking forward to the next video!!!
I liked the music! You guys got great footage, and editing was 🤌🏼
Outstanding video and the music you paired with it couldn’t be any more suspenseful!! Well done!
You can see walking at around 6:05 and a bit later
Thanks! You CAN see it walk!
This video is just scary right from the get-go. That sky is terrifying and I haven’t even seen the funnel cloud just yet.
Really good filming and editing
I’ve always wanted to see a tornado in person, I’ve only chased a tornado once but it formed out of state, this video is truly my dreams, love it.
I love the way you did this! ❤
SLAYED SIS!!!! For real, phenomenal work here dude.
Thanks man!
Great chase man! Keep up the great work! Subbed!
I can only imagine what the other drivers thought as he passed them. This was one insane video, and I can't believe how close he got to it.
3:19 (dies down)
3:30 fastest tornado forming I’ve ever seen
Wait till you see the Joplin tornado forming
STUNNING footage! The music was well chosen and dramatic, I just wish you had let us hear the tornado at some point though. Still, it was so nice to have such fantastic footage and not have storm chasers screaming like little b1tches over the top of it! Absolutely excellent work!
Monett is less than 50 miles from where I live, we watched this storm roll over monett and our house. Genuinely terrifying
People say "once you see the dead man walking, your dead..."
This dude: death is too good for me!
Great footage, although it was scary enough without the tense background music.
If I was in this I would be screaming prayers 😭
I've lived long enough to hear "The Dark Knight" soundtrack be in a video about Tornadoes on RUclips. I've peaked.
This day was my birthday and I was opening my presents during this time I live in Missouri aswell near Monett and it was the scariest experience I've ever had
0:40 the way it just creeps up on u from behind the trees omg
This was great footage y’all, really stuck your asses out there for this one and damn, lol nice.
Buld said "The dead man walking is not gonna walk on us imma walk on you"💀
Bro fr is chasin the end of the world feeling vibes💀💀💀💀
Braw video, Lad. Really have to give you storm chasers a lot of credit, ...you guys are savage. Stay Safe oot there. Cheers.
4:00 Cop was a real one for trying to warn people that there was a tornado over there
Seeing how a tornado can spit and is called a dead man walking is more scary than a normal tornado
the cop being so chill with this is so funny to me
I started having a panic attack a few weeks ago when my parents rold me that rotation was in the sky and headed toward our road.
I never had a panic attack about rotation until then, 2 years ago my carport (that was 3-4 feet away from my house) was picked up and dropped into my neighbors yard from a funnel cloud.
I like watching tornados on videos, but when it comes near me I start having a panic attack and an SVT (Because I have an extra pathway in my heart that sends extra heartbeats to my heart when I get stressed)
what's an SVT?
1:07 this gave me Joplin vibes
I love cops 😊 you're the best RUclips channel ever
Left you a like and comment to help the video in the YT algorithm. Awesome footage.
I watch Storm chasers to overcome my biggest fear.. but I'll NEVER have the nerve you men/women had to do this for a living. You, Read Timmer an others are absolute hero's to everyone an I can't thank you enough to put yourself in such a risk to save lives an to further weather science! Truly remarkable work!
Local monett garbage man here, I would have just gotten off work and been right there coming back from Verona transfer station, but I was on vacation. Came back to the park trees being all torn up some damage on hywy 60 in monett. Major damage on the business 60 stretch headed to aurora. Thanks for the video upload, stay safe out there.
Great time for a vacation! Hope you enjoyed it and glad you avoided this tornado.
It feels nice for an urban legend to appear again =]
Great footage! I’ll be looking forward to your next big chase 😁
I saw one of these as a kid!
I got up early for school as a 5yr old kid because I wanted to play some Donkey Kong and a HUGE tornado was approaching! I opened the door to see what was going on and there it was! A massive elephant trunk tornado with little baby tornadoes coming off of it! It missed my house by only 3 blocks!
I remember thinking geez, I just want to play some Fing Donkey Kong 😆😆😆
LOL
0:57 that is like a movie sense
Just earned a subscriber. Stellar video.
Great music!
the music is like the shining at 8x speed!
intense!
Sweet cop was keeping him safe ❤
OH. MY. GOD. That is a monster!!!
Well done. I live in the Ozarks. It's hard to chase here. Trees and It's usually near or after dark.
The music made it so much creepier
Great video
Thank you!
Tunes are rightious...
he is lucky he got to continue on and Missouri tornados are some of the most dangerous and destructive.
Great video! But you're crazy chase that thing and oh lucky the cops let you go. Very lucky.
Cuts from crazy tornado action to it being an EF-1 🙂↕️
awesome vid man subbed
Multi-Vortex (Well known as "Dead Man Walking" ) tornadoes are amazing, yet horrifying. Definitely going to shiver someone's timbers in that case.
Bruh the music at 2:24 scared the heck out of me😂
That drop lol😂
Personally, I prefer less music in a video like this(felt the need to mute at 1min-is) cuz I'd like to really get absorbed in the atmosphere.
But I know there's value, and probably enjoyment, too, in working on editing skills and putting a vid together. So don't feel the need to be too swayed by my thoughts alone
Good editing. 👍
