- How to add Bluetooth to the iPod classic 5th gen. The process is pretty much exactly the same for the 6th and 7th gen as well. The board i used was the KCX_BT_EMITTER V1.7. Here are the links to buy it:

Just wanted to comment and stay thanks for providing this method. You definitely could have just sold Bluetooth Backcases without providing the process method but you showed us the way. Ive modded 3 ipods with mostly your method and they have worked great. Thanks
Crazy dude, that's really incredibly cool. You really did it professionally. Great job, I'm impressed.
Awesome, really awesome. ❤
Best regards.
amazing mod, well done!
just installing this and bridging audio ground and power ground connections on the board worked for me. Noice is gone!
this is so creative
Awesome ❤
Unscrew the hold switch on one side add a push button under it so you have both the hold switch and the power button for Bluetooth board. Then put pairing button underneath the headphone jack and always have a pin to push the pairing button in through the power button this way you still have a hold switch.
Great idea with the power button! but do not understand the pairing button location "Then put pairing button underneath the headphone jack and always have a pin to push the pairing button in through the power button " can you help me out?
I think I know what you ment. There is a hole in audio jack so you can use a long pin to trigger pairing if one positions pairing button under the audio barrel
Can you elaborate on this method?
Don't understand putting the pair button under the headphone jack
If I made a small additional hole for the pair button would I be able to retain functionality of the lock switch? While also still being able to use the lock switch to turn the Bluetooth module on/off?
looking for the video on the 7th gen, because I think it is too thin and I want to check how you did it (:
Thanks for sharing the process.
Also is there a better diagram for the solder points on the headphone jack becuse the one he used seemed confusing.
Isn't there a way to make the BT transmitter turn ON and OFF with the sleep mode of the iPod?
Probably a 5v pin among the 30 pins or a capacitor that goes on and off with the screen?
Just got it today. Any tips on pairing it with my car?
Can you connect the iPod to
car stereo via Bluetooth
This is an incredible mod! I have seen couple of bluetooth mods before, but most of them involved logic board soldering. This one is really great having everything within back plate. Just wondering if the signal is still ok? I have seen people making holes to get a better bluetooth signal.
Also do you think you can link the push button? Or at least size? Thanks!!!
The signal seems to be ok on the classic 5 probably because the front is still plastic, the earphones make it to the other end of the room without disconnecting. I tried it on the classic 6/7th gen too but the signal was much weaker although my bluetooth earphones aren't that good either so i will have to test it with a better pair.
As for the button it is a standard 6x6x5mm tactile push button. Here is a link: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_m0960MC. You can also find them at most electronics shops too
Can I use it in a thin back green 7 if I keep the original battery and hard drive?
No need antenna for the bluetooth?
is it okay if we just drill a hole in the back cover on the same location of the pair button (like the position of the reset button of Sony Walkman)? I am planning to do that
can we use the clicker speaker as a bluetooth power switch - when we off the clicker speaker, buletooth is "off" and if the clicker is on - BT is "on"?
heyuhm why did you wire up the audio channels to the headphone jack diffrently than you shown in the photo ????
Is the new housing metal?
This is a cool mod. Im wondering if any of the remote functions work over the bluetooth connection such as Play/Pause, Skip track forward and back or Volume up and Down.
I have tried but unfortunately it didn't work with my earphones.
By using the pair button, will it auto discover my BT headphones?
Hi I would like to have a Bluetooth mod for my IPod. I’m UK based. Is this something you could do for me? Many thanks Adam
I tried this mod and my ipod is not turning on again. I have checked all my soldering and I do not seem to be able to find a short or anything. Any advice?
Would the "Bluetooth Upgrade Kit For Apple iPod Classic 5th Gen" also work on 7th gen classic IPods? im assuming I can get a custom plastic front plate and get better bluetooth signal?
Yes it is working on the 7th gen as well. the first time i tested it i was using some low quality earbuds and the range wasn't good, but i have since tested it with a better pair and it is working properly!
Nice to meet you! I am Japanese! Your ideas are great! This is the ideal Bluetooth customization.
I have one question, where can I buy a Bluetooth push button? I would be happy if you could tell me the URL of Ali Express.
you have it in the description mate
Can you use an iflash duo with the slim back?
I havent actually tested it but i assume not. The solo wont fit with the 3000mah battery because it uses the regular size SD card slots which the iflash dual uses as well. Whereas the quad has micro SD card slots instead. Also that unbranded dual micro SD adapter that can be found on aliexpress doesn't fit either with the 3000mah battery.
just to make sure you're clear, if i'm already using rockbox (which i do), and you turn off the ipod completely by holding the pause/play button, that'll turn off the bluetooth device completely? if that's the case, then i won't have to worry about the hold switch if i ever get around to doing this
Hello, no the bluetooth board will stay powered even if the iPod is off as its wired directly to the battery.
Im thinking if i do the USB-C mod as well i might be able to mount a switch beside it as there will be a lot more free space next to it, then i will be able to keep the lock switch aswell without it looking to ugly.
@@partspluspods3689 the 3000mah batteries you're now supplying do not have the BMS 18:50
Can you wire straight to the battery terminal?
@@teejay_flaus yes
The board says it needs 5v and your battery says it’s 3.8v?
I have neno 3rd gen which bluetooth mode i should select
I would not even try to do this on a Nano, save up and buy a classic
whats that thing you put before you solder? some liquid thing
Flux paste. It makes the solder flow better
Is there any reason you couldn't leave the lock switch functional here? You're not actually changing the wiring to the switch, you could do the push button under it and just have a less easily accessible but still functioning lock slider surely?
Sir can I buy the pre-installed bluettoth rear back cover only ?
Yes! i have listed them for sale on my website just then, shipping worldwide
My 3000 battery is a little different. Would love advice if possible
mine too.. I would like some help too :( Apparently it's a new 3000mAh gen
the picture in 5:22 where you show where to solder audio cables does not match where you actually soldered the cables.
yes I soldered it wrong the first time. The way in the picture is the correct way.
You sure? I googled other BT mod and they soldered as you did ( not as the picture )I`m going to do this mode tonight :-)@@partspluspods3689
@@partspluspods3689 dude you should have put a disclaimer at least ffs
@@jansshrimps3785 I did. there is text on the screen and a picture of the proper pinout at 4:40
Do you offer this on the 7th gen classic?
I do now, you can book on my website here is the link: partspluspods.com.au/product/ipod-classic-5th-gen-bluetooth-upgrade/
would this BT mod work on 4th gen Classic?
yes! you can put this board on any device with a headphone jack, speaker or other audio output
parts ordered. I`m thinking drilling very small needle size hole into the back on the side, simething like SIM tray hole on a phone to trigger pariring. Have you though about it? @@partspluspods3689
Has anyone managed to get the bluetooth to work with Airpods Pros? It works fine with my bluetooth speaker but has horrible interference noise on my Airpods.
Hi there, were you able to find a solution for this? The sound quality when using Airpods Pro 2nd gen in terrible.
Does this Bluetooth works two ways? In and out? I’m interested to play from my phone internet radio to an iPod.
I have a horrible screeching noise from my Bluetooth, any ideas?
You can try bridging audio ground and power ground connections on the board
Did you figure it out? Have the same problem. An answer would be asweom
it was interferance, i actually changed the bluetooth module i put in and made and wires as short as possible@@eboutyytk5064
I put a jumper between tx and audio gnd and my audio is literally crystal clear now
what does that do?
