      Because they have contracts with finance companies that they don’t have to provide titles for 6 months to 2 yrs. They are a rip off company don’t do business with a dealership that does not have a title upfront. No title, no money no contract walk out do not do business.

    "Carvana denied all prior knowledge that the vehicle was stolen" We know, that is the problem. You didn't exercise due diligence before putting a stolen vehicle up for sale. Regardless, who's dumb enough to pay near 70k for a used Maserati. Finding out it was stolen was probably a blessing in disguise. Those SUVs are maintenance headaches and attractive to carjackers.

      The dmv is only checking the door vin plate and the windshield vin plate, and making sure it matches what’s on paper (the one carvana gave them)

      @@Dior444L Caravana had to get the paperwork from the DMV. When you scan the bar codes the vin # and description of the car comes up on the screen. If the number is off it's going to bring up a different vehicle, color, milage, everything.

    I bought a stolen car off Craigslist. It was 1999 for escort for $700. Ran like a champ drove it around for a couple weeks took it to DMV to put it in my name the all of a sudden, cop walks in them boom the tow truck came to take it back to the original owner in Sacramento and I got picked up from DMV smh.

      I always insist the seller go with me to transfer tiltle. And when selling I go with them to do so and cash their check if they give me one.

    Receiving and selling stolen goods of that value are 2nd degree felonies. Ignorance is not an excuse. This isn't just civil, it's criminal. Not to mention that the police could just as easily killed him as let him go.

    My brother has a friend, "Daryl", who traveled from California to Nevada to buy a classic Chevy. He showed it off to me, it was sweet. I asked him if he had a problem with the VIN on the car not matching the pink slip, but what was more fun (for me) was that the front and back plates were from different states. 😂😳🙄

    Obviously that man is an easy target. He missed the most obvious red flags, his first mistake was purchasing from Carvana, second mistake was not doing his research on the vehicle in order to know the differences between a 2017 and 2021, third mistake was getting ripped off thinking that car worth $68k. More than likely he’ll be on the news again for buying a 2023 Twin Turbo Tesla Model S.

    "we didnt know the vehicle was stolen" isnt it your job to figure that out? but i guess thats what happens when your notorious with car title issues. if you required all people to provide a valid title before you paid a seller, and sold a car you wouldnt have these issues. also if you cant even verify the car your selling is the correct year thats a serious problem as well

      The only way that they noticed the vehicle was stolen Is by checking the Vin tag on the frame of the vehicle. He clearly got the car registered and no one was the wiser. The police wouldn’t have even known because the vehicle was registered to him under a new Vin

    i sold a car to carvana once and they literally didnt even look at it.. i pulled up. they turned it on looked at mileage and gave me my check and walked off.. no inspection at all.. my car was a rust bucket that i couldnt sell on the private market and they paid me top dollar for it lol

      Due diligence works. I haven’t bought a new car since 1990. I keep Ford trucks and have my mechanic inspect. Buying one with 100000 on the odometer means I can put another 200000 on it, pay 1/4 the new price and put the balance in investments.
      Or I buy a sports car, inspect it myself, and know buying a classic sports car means money spent on upkeep and repair.
      Either way, I calculated that in 33 years I saved well over $200000 in vehicle devaluation and interest payments.

    When both the door and the dash VINs match, any dealer would have sold the car because the VIN check would have not shown it as stolen. Carvana got suckered the same as the guy. He deserves his money back. I was on his side until his money grubbing lawyer whispered in his ear and had him sue for $1,000,000. That just shows how pathetic both the customer and his stain lawyer are.
