VERY underrated movie. The backdrop of the steel industry decline in western PA makes it so real and relatable. I know people that lived that. Very well done.
Every high school football can relate to this movie... It's fleeting and we don't know it until our playing days are complete and wish we had another chance to repeat high school football...
Such a great, under-rated movie. It's so gritty and real. You can literally "feel" Johnstown, PA throughout the film. Huge thanks to the director and actors, such a wonderful film and one of Tom Cruise's best performances.
Yep, this film is hugely under-rated, I agree 100% and have always said this is one of Tom Cruise's best performances. He literally was Stefan. (However, I still like Top Gun as well).
This song captures the power and poignancy of the dreams I held in my heart as a boy. I failed but am thankful for the years of joy in believing in an ideal.
Tom Cruise's most underrated movie; the late Christopher Penn is tremendous as well, and Lea Thompson was her usual fetching self. And I'm happy that I bought this hard-to-find, very repeatable ultra-catchy 45 at the time at Musicland. (It was on a 3" cd-single also.) And everyone needs to be aware that there is a nearly perfect (unlike the domestic release of her very premature best-of LP) Jennifer Warnes' import compilation CD available from Australia; fabulous sound and even in-depth liner notes, with the only significant missing track being "Nights are Forever".

This song is the reason I chose it over other collections. It's incredibly rare and only on the soundtrack CD which at the rare times it is available goes for $150 - $250.

rhymeandreasoning I can’t find this song ANYWHERE on Spotify or Pandora or ANYWHERE for that matter! Thank you for posting this.. it only took me 7yrs since you posted this to find it.
This movie so perfectly captures the blue-collar aura of Pittsburgh/Johnstown, & of the entire Rust Belt in general. The look, the colors, the cars, the dialogue, the atmosphere of smoke & gloom that permeates all year 'round, even in the summer & fall (The greater Pittsburgh metro area only averages about 50-55 sunny days per year)...Incredible. Only thing missing is the Yinzer accent of SW PA. I was in high school in the Pittsburgh area when it came out...It was a huge deal all throughout the WPIAL region.
You are exactly right. I grew up in Johnstown in the 80s and 90s and this movie "feels like" Johnstown, even though most of the mills were gone by the time I was born. It wasn't smoky or dirty by then, but it was definitely gloomy weather-wise and football is king around western PA, probably second only to Texas. This song actually makes me a little wistful.
It was an underrated movie and quite realistic. I wish they made more Blue Collar realism flims instead of these Hollywood flicks that are getting worse and worse.
Agreed great song for a very good movie that epitomizes both the gloom and eternal optimism of rising above it all.. when I go on road trips through this area, I think about this movie.
Excellent Tom Cruise Film !! I was in High school and loved this movie!! This song was really popular on the radio in my town here in Canada . Cruise was excellent in his early years . Such great 80s Memories 🌟👍🏻💯❤️❤️😊🇨🇦🇨🇦✈️☀️☀️
Man, this song and movie bring back memories of growing up in the 80s. I wish Tom hadn't gone of f the deep end, he was cool as hell in movies like ATRM, Top Gun, Risky Business, and Taps. Oh, the days.

Great flick across the board and I remember first seeing it in the theaters!! Little did I know we would have so much in common over this film!! But after a tour of college ball, and a bit of pro I always grin when I see him acting like his life and dreams were over due to a lousy night on the field!! Seth!! I would explain, there's always a place for you in the US Army!! Bring the girlfriend as well!! Worked for me for over 12 years!! lol
What a great line. Tom Cruise best movie. He played a great role. Made it seem so real. Craig T Nelson was very good. The scene where Djordjevic sees Coach Nickerson and his wife in the restaurant and he apologizes then leaves. Nickerson tries to talk to him and Djordjevic says "You screwed me, man. Who the hell do you think you are?" You are just a typing teacher, you are not god". Best lines in the movie. So true because in the era, the high school coach had the player in the palm of their hand. Thank god for travel ball. That movie still hits home 40 years later. The girlfriend, Lisa, went to the Nickersons wife and talked sense to her. The wife had Nickerson give Djordjevic a scholarship eve though it was to CAL POLY. lol The girlfriend went out of her way to do that because she knew how much the football scholarship meant to Djordjevic. Funny thing is, I married a Lisa (Conn) Gloucester NJ. They dont make movies like this no longer.
awesome song and what an underrated movie this is, jennifer warnes does not get enough credit, i know the rate i am going i am makeing the right moves, if i don't now i never will. we all have to make the right moves.
+Jamie Warrior Warlord McCallum Most def an underrated flick. At the time when it came out, it generated a lot of buzz in the Northeast region (understandably), but nationwide it was kinda written off & overlooked as just another "Brat Pack" flick trying to rip-off Flashdance or Footloose.....
Tarantulisimo Wow, true, but I'm from the deep South (as in about to fall in Gulf of Mexico deep) with the opposite upbringing (private schools) & this has been one of my all time favorite movies since I first saw it. I think it's Cruise's best work & incredibly motivating & moving.
Tarantulisimo Those were dance movies....but I get your point. I was an Elite gymnast (know & love dance), but this movie is by far the most motivating!!!! Flashdance was a internal struggle & unrealistic, best thing in it was Cynthia Rhodes (Staying Alive, Dirty Dancing) & Footloose....sorry, can't hold a candle to All The Right Moves. You don't have to be a football player to see how awesome this movie is!!!!
awesome track, good underrated movie, jennifer warnes does not get enough credit, she has sung some great songs in movies over the years.i prey i make the right moves one day otherwise i know i am fucked.we all have to make the right moves now otherwise we never will.
I got out of high school in 1983 the year this movie was released--I identify with Tom Cruise's character Stef the way he strove to improve his situation. This song inspires me to never give up even with all the craziness going on in my life right now.
Brings me back to a golden time, full of challenges, with little guidance or support. I faced so much alone, and came out on top…had faith….it it all paid off. This movie and song, made tough times just a little brighter….thank you
If you grew up in Cleveland, Cincy, Weirton, Wheeling, Pittsburgh, or Johnstown (or anywhere else in the Rust Belt) in the late '70s-early '80s -- Just as the American steel industry was imploding & collapsing -- This movie goes straight to the heart....Hits so close to home. They coulda filmed it anywhere in the Pittsburgh/Johnstown area & it woulda been identical/interchangeable. In fact, through the rest of the '80s (pre-Google, pre-internet, pre-IMDB), high school kids all over the greater Pittsburgh area would either brag that the movie was filmed at their schools, or claim that Ampipe & Walnut Heights were based on their schools, especially kids who went to Ambridge and/or Woodland Hills....
Well, that's kind of depressing. This is the best & most underrated Cruise film. Everyone is great in it. A football movie was filmed where I grew up, I was in it. I'm in the trailer (beauty pageant scene). My boyfriend's best friend played Dennis Quaid's son in a bit part, & a Coach from my school was in it. Baton Rouge, La. I met Jessica Lange, Meg Ryan (talked to her for a hr, didn't know who she was. She was dating Dennis Quaid.). Everybody's All American Taylor Hackford was the director (of Against All Odds, Officer and a Gentleman, etc). Do you know where the movie was filmed? Obviously I'm not familiar with those parts. You can see some of Baton Rouge in the parts. Especially LSU, although it was filmed at different stadiums.
@@gymnast2890 I know the movie "Everybody's All American" pretty well. It was filmed in & around Baton Rouge & Denver CO. "All The Right Moves" was filmed in & around Johnstown PA.
I remember seeing this for the first time when I was in high school in the late 90s, and though I grew up a couple hours south down in Clarksburg, WV, this resonated then. I sort of had the mentality they did where they had to do something extraordinary to get out, and they had to work around the gatekeepers like Coach and avoid potentially devastating circumstances like an accidental pregnancy. Lea Thompson was perfect in this role. Cruise was perfect. The movie was gritty and real, and seeing all the dilapidated buildings, the mud, the “guts” of the city, having parents who didn’t want me to follow my dreams; man I’m tearing up thinking about it. It wasn’t easy, but I got out. Now Clarksburg is run down and drug infested, and I’m in Philly with a beautiful family and a burgeoning freelance music career. I ended up going to grad school at Duquesne and saw all of the surrounding areas of Pgh from playing at various churches and such, and it’s such a romantic movie in its authenticity. Can’t say enough how much I love this movie.
Tarantulisimo ampipe came from Ambridge and walnut hills came from north hills. Being from WPa and playing high school ball, as all the jobs dried up, Friday night was for keeps. You were either good enough to play college ball or it was the military.
@@Biggdoom344 True...I also grew up partially in SW PA. Yes, Ampipe was obviously patterned on Ambridge, but it also reflects several other steel town districts between Pittsburgh & Johnstown. And Walnut Heights was obviously modeled on several larger & more upper class districts such as North Hills, USC, & Fox Chapel, but mainly Westmont Hilltop in Johnstown. Back then, I remember that every school in the WPIAL network would claim that the schools were based on their schools.
I agree with the second part of your comment, Bob, however not the first part. I was a senior in high school in Johnstown when this movie was being made, and I remember being anxious to grow up, and get out into the world and do adult things. My Mom used to say, "enjoy now, these are the best times of your life". Looking back now......how right she was. There is nothing wrong with being nostalgic for high school days. Oh, to have that few worries again. The 80's were just awesome.
This was a very well crafted film . It depicted the small town environment perfect , acting was great and the story flowed very well . In a time when it could have gone into a sappy jock, cheerleader hoopla it didn't..... a very powerful film
Senior year, football season, 1984, I watched the shit outta this film! too bad I sucked on the field, but still enjoyed the film- Ive always remembered this song too. Jeez, Im 45 and still trying to make the right moves.
this is was a home down movie... well done... music soundtrack with Jenny wArnes and Thompson was made for this movie...me and my girl have this song as our dedication song to each other
Thanks so much for posting, I wish there was a video of the beginning of the movie when this song is playing!!!! Love the song & most under-rated movie ever !
One of my favorite movies. I actually met one of the "extras" from the locker room scene once. Ive always wanted to visit Johnstown and see some of the old locations. I was told the school is gone, but I would love to go the diner where Stef apologizes. I google mapped his house, apparently it's still there.
thanks for uploading this song, just love the movie. It is so sad tht this movie is soooo underrated because Tom Cruise proves in it his awesome acting abilities and I sooooooo had a crush on him when I was younger :D I sooooo wanted to switch places with Lea Thompson ;)
Just saw this movie last night for the first time in probably 25 years. Always enjoyed it; going to seek this out for an online purchase. Won't forget this flick again!
Great comment. I have the dvd of the movie right here next to me. I have it on my desk where I have my computer. Along with Top Gun and Risky Business. All The Right Moves gets to my core. I love everything about that movie.
Right now at bars all through the SW PA Rust Belt, somebody is still telling somebody else that this movie was filmed in their town at their old high school...Ongoing urban legend.
She also sang the Oscar-winning songs "Up Where We Belong" from "An Officer and a Gentleman" (with Joe Cocker) and "It Goes Like It Goes" from "Norma Rae." "(I've Had)the Time of My Life" was an Oscar winner, too.
I identify with Stef in this movie--I graduated high school in 1983 and carried a lot of anger over many things in my life. No I wasn't a jock--I eventually turned into kind of a stoner. I admire Stef's being so determined. Just cause you live in a dead end town doesn't mean your life has to be a dead end road. You go Stef!
VERY underrated movie. The backdrop of the steel industry decline in western PA makes it so real and relatable. I know people that lived that. Very well done.
The mood, tone, atmosphere. The era. The locations, etc, of this movie grips me. I love it still very much.
Every high school football can relate to this movie... It's fleeting and we don't know it until our playing days are complete and wish we had another chance to repeat high school football...
Every high school football can relate to this?

Such an early 80s sounding song. Awesome
80s music is the right thing to face the day. Simply epic, like the real life is.
One of the great all-time sleeper films and soundtracks. I was 13. The song brings me back.
Sleeper films? Lol
Saw this at the drive in back in the day in the big 80's with my girl...good times...wish I could travel back in time
Such a great, under-rated movie. It's so gritty and real. You can literally "feel" Johnstown, PA throughout the film. Huge thanks to the director and actors, such a wonderful film and one of Tom Cruise's best performances.
I so agree.
I also agree
Yes!
You “feel” Johnstown, PA.
That’s so very true.
There’s a sense of nostalgia to this film.
The music is uplifting and go-getting.
Underrated? Lol..WTF is WRONG with you? This movie was a HUGE hit and still is today
@@BBAKER22 huh? it was never a huge hit, wish it was, that's my point
Such a quintessential 80's movie and song! Makes me feel like I'm in high school!
it was great to see the brat pack in a different setting than los angeles, chicago, or new york
This song is underrated!
Lol..Arguably the DUMBEST thing I've heard in years
Massively underrated little gem of a movie. Great performances by all, good story, good script. I would take this over Top Gun any day of the week.
Yep, this film is hugely under-rated, I agree 100% and have always said this is one of Tom Cruise's best performances. He literally was Stefan. (However, I still like Top Gun as well).
100% love this film.
I like the movie All The Right Moves!!!!
Agreed!
Agreed. I think it beats Friday Night Lights...and I love Friday Night Lights. This is just an 80's masterpiece!
This is the perfect song for this movie. I love this song!
👍👊
As far as I'm concerned, Jennifer Warnes can sing the phonebook. What a fantastic voice!!!
She’s just awesome, I have loved her singing ever since hearing “Up Where We Belong” as a kid. She was everywhere in the 80s especially!
I love this song.... It inspires me everyday that we can achieve anything beyond our imagination.. 🙏 😃👌👏
This song captures the power and poignancy of the dreams I held in my heart as a boy. I failed but am thankful for the years of joy in believing in an ideal.
Great post. I appreciate you sharing. Happy New Year.
I read somewhere once that old dreams were good dreams; they didn’t work out but it was good to have them.
You're alive! You're breathing! You're above ground! You didn't fail!
This song is in one word BEAUTIFUL! Can't deny it!
Jack Walker I agree...great movie! great soundtrack!
I recently got that collection on the Raven label from Australia. It's a well chosen career perspective from 1972-1983. (That's why I've Had the Time of My Life isn't on it). This song is the reason I chose it over other collections. It's incredibly rare and only on the soundtrack CD which at the rare times it is available goes for $150 - $250.
Craig T. Nelson delivered one of his best performances too 🏆
This song and movie lift me up
Such a great song...brings back great, hopeful memories
Loving the 1980s music and decade. Even though it's 2017.this type of music takes me back in the 1980s sound, culture, politics, movies, etc

THE LYRICS, I don't ask for paradise
Just face it on my own
Won't mean a thing to me
If I go there alone

That's all we're hoping for
A lucky break is all we're due

And if we make the right moves
If we make all the right moves

There's no way that we can lose
And if we make the right moves
If we make all the right moves
We can show them all
There's no way that we can lose
Oh, look beyond these small town streets
And see the world out there
Oh anyone can carve their own
If they only care
There's more for us than givin' in
And only getting by
They say we're gonna sink or swim
But we intend to fly
And if we make the right moves
If we make all the right moves
We can show them all
There's no way that we can lose

Gives me so much emotions♥️
Happy New Year

Thank you so much♥️
Happy new year
An underrated movie and overall soundtrack...
So many great songs like this one aren't available digitally!
This was a very well crafted film . It depicted the small town environment perfect , acting was great and the story flowed very well . In a time when it could have gone into a sappy jock, cheerleader hoopla it didn't..... a very powerful film
Did someone say 80"s? Hell yeah I'd go back.
This song and intro just adds so much awesomeness to this film.
Senior year, football season, 1984, I watched the shit outta this film! too bad I sucked on the field, but still enjoyed the film- Ive always remembered this song too. Jeez, Im 45 and still trying to make the right moves.
2021 - Amazing movie
this is was a home down movie... well done... music soundtrack with Jenny wArnes and Thompson was made for this movie...me and my girl have this song as our dedication song to each other
Why didn't you send it to Casey when you had the chance?
A classic song! Thanks!

How do I know I am OLD - watching this
Ty Law was one guy who made all the right moves. He's an Aliquippa native who's going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Thank you so much for posting
My pleasure
All the Right Moves and Vision Quest are what movies are about
Love both movies
love this song!
One of the most inspiring 🎥...." hey steph are we going to beat walnut heights????"" Go western PA, love this movie:) go 80s
Thanks so much for posting, I wish there was a video of the beginning of the movie when this song is playing!!!! Love the song & most under-rated movie ever !
2:42 Those bridge riffs... 😎
👍👍👊
One of my favorite movies. I actually met one of the "extras" from the locker room scene once. Ive always wanted to visit Johnstown and see some of the old locations. I was told the school is gone, but I would love to go the diner where Stef apologizes. I google mapped his house, apparently it's still there.
Tucson Arizona over here
I love 80's music!!! I really liked this movie as well! Thanks for posting
thanks for uploading this song, just love the movie. It is so sad tht this movie is soooo underrated because Tom Cruise proves in it his awesome acting abilities and I sooooooo had a crush on him when I was younger :D I sooooo wanted to switch places with Lea Thompson ;)
There will never be sports movies this good
I remember when I played football in high school I was a running back in the late 80s,I watched this movie everyday before going to school
Thank you sharing. Always great to hear from others who hold a special place in their lives for this movie.
We kicked their asses up and down that field tonight!!!!
a classic song!!!
I want this movie so bad. I've seen it before, but I want to have it so I can watch it whenever I want to.
Escobar Salvador I know right? took me awhile to find! TRUE CLASSIC!
I'm 26 and had no idea this movie existed until today. Loved it!! Awesome recommendation from my mom
@EMANUELE CESTONI Such a great scene
I think if would've woke up to this song. I would've gone to school more, and maybe tried out for the football team.
I would have told myself to hang tougher and not let all the bullshit out there get to me.
Reminds me of college and growing up in a small Georgia Town!!
Right now at bars all through the SW PA Rust Belt, somebody is still telling somebody else that this movie was filmed in their town at their old high school...Ongoing urban legend.
There was Bunch of High School type of movies back in the 80’s with Great Soundtracks, This one had one of those “Vision Quest” Vibes.
She also sang the Oscar-winning songs "Up Where We Belong" from "An Officer and a Gentleman" (with Joe Cocker) and "It Goes Like It Goes" from "Norma Rae." "(I've Had)the Time of My Life" was an Oscar winner, too.
The 80's ruled. End of discussion
I agree. I am happy I got to be a kid in the 80s
there isn't one, it is one of the most underrated movies of all time and my fave performance by Cruise....he was sooo intense
Best movie, best song
6-2 Stack Monster!
Tom Snow with another great movie song
too bad itunes doesn't have this song. unbelievable.
Great comment. Thanks for sharing.
1984...I was in the USAF stationed at Barksdale.
the film is brillant, great love scene in it
The birth of Tom the superstar
How is the football game vs Walnut Heights not on RUclips!!!?
