Great video!!! I'm also right at 300 lbs. I ended up putting a set of ATV front shocks on the rear of my Monkey (Amazon $59) I also regeared from the stock 15/34 to 14/37. My Monkey wouldn't pull uphill and even on the flat it couldn't get to the rev limter in 4th gear. Now I can accelerate uphill and the little 125 can turn more rpm's in 4th gear. My top speed is still right at 55 mph.
Thanks for Watching... I love the Monkey! I have over 300 miles on it so far... I'm thinking about dropping a tooth on the front sprocket to help with top speed... Andy
Is a Monkey right for me? Heck yeah, it's right for everyone. It doesn't seem too bad with you on it, I'm impressed. I had a Supertrapp on my old thumper, a Yamaha XT350 - loved the sound. Fella from work called it the Mini Hog. Very distinctive. Love the bike content, looking forward to more. Also like your cool blue jacket, fits right in!
Im really surprised at how well it gets up to speed! It does great wheelies but on this day it was 40degs and I wasnt dressed for it...lol I plan on mixing the Monkey stuff in along the Casper build! I thought with its retro looks it will be right at home in the back of Casper heading to the track! I had a SuperTrapp on my old Kawasaki four wheeler and it sounded pretty good... plus it has that old superbike exhaust look to it. Andy

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage I’ve got a 71 Nova street/strip/show car. I finished it about this time last year and debuted it at the World of Wheels Birmingham in February. I took it to shows and cruises almost every pretty Saturday in 2021. This year it’s time to race. I was unsure of what kind of racing to do, and I had more or less decided to run it in a few 6.0 heads up races around here, (I live just outside of Atlanta). That would be fairly easy on the car not having to spray it much or maybe not at all. (I’m not into tearing my car up to try and outrun everybody). But as it turns out, I met a guy at a cruise in October. He was driving a 67 Camaro that’s similar to Grumpy Jenkins pro stocker. He runs it in SNDR, Southeast Nostalgia Drag Racing, in their Super Stock class. He said my car might fit those rules as well. About the only things they require are pre-1970, no trans brakes, no power adders and the car has to look similar to something from back in the day. So I inquired and was accepted, so I’ve made a few minor changes to better fit in with the nostalgic flavor. I’ll text you some pictures if you want. My number is 404-725-7122. I really dig Casper. I hope you have great success this year with your channel, and racing. God bless you and your family…Curt

Hope we see more content on the Monkey. I'd like to see an update video once you get the shocks upgraded and the exhaust. I've been wanting once for a while as I think they would be a fun pit bike. Thanks Shadetree! I agree fully the fender eliminator is a must! I may change the front sprocket to a 14 tooth to help it out some but it will do over 50mph pretty easy with me right now. It is just so quite with the stock exhaust! SuperTrapp will be added soon Thanks for watching! Andy

I saw some air adjustable shocks that kinda peeked my interest as I have the t-rex rack on the back (best one by far) and plan to put a milk crate to haul fishin box, rods, cooler etc this summer. So it would be nice to adjust air pressure to compensate. I got the stock look takegawa sports exhaust as I really like the totally stock look of the bike. The lobster tail didn't bother me too much, rather have that then get splattered on the back by mud/water. I used to also street/drag race but my back has gotten so bad, its no fun to wrench anymore. Sellin all my torinos and other mid size fords, all my ford parts etc. I just play with mini bikes and this Monkey now. I like your vids and sub'd.
Tom I can say that the cheap shocks work great for what I do with the bike.. if I took it off road I think Ohlins would be the best option! Thanks for Watching Andy
JC my only complaint besides the rear shocks is just how quite it is! With a helmet on cruising at 50 mph you can't really hear the bike... It's very subtle! The #Supertrapp exhaust should fix that
I absolutely adore my little 22 Monkey in Blue. I don't miss the power of my other bikes, I have more fun on this than any other bike I've owned, it's a perfect little bike with more smiles per mile than should be legal. I traded in my Tenere 700, no regrets!

Being 300 lbs also I thought about those mini motos but ending up getting a SYM Fiddle 4 200i scooter. It looks like an old Vespa but has a330 lb limited and can cronies 55-60 mph with me on it. Plus it has storage under the seat. Now that the Honda DAX 125 is in the USA in 2024 I might have bought one of them.
Dave the Navi, is a pretty cool bike too... Plus it's cheap! I went with the Monkey in part because of the vintage retro look that really fits with my F100 Casper! Thanks for Watching Andy
I jumped on your video because I saw that you were 300 pounds. I was actually thinking about getting anywhere between a 300 and a 500 cc scooter. I weigh in about the same. But I caught my eye about your video was your garage. Your left back corner if you looked over your right shoulder is sinking. Only way to correct out is to shoot either aggregate concrete under that corner or use foam injection to lift. Eventually your trusses are going to crack and you’re going to create an opening in your roof.
Hi! Hmmm maybe you can do 4 valve porting for this honda? 😅 I had 50cc small monkey back in the day and it was my first 4-stroke. Remember wondering what is that chain in cylinder head!? (cam timing chain..) Cheers, -juhana
I may buy a spare head down the road to do some porting on it . The Monkey comes with a 2 valve head... but there are 4 valve conversions out there for the 125cc engine. it would be interesting to put a stock head on DV's flowbench and see what we are working with... in stock trim this engine only makes 9hp! Andy
The original mini trail didn't have that problem. Of course it didn't have rear shocks. Well, you figured it would need stiffer rear suspension beforehand so I guess that wasn't a SHOCKING discovery.
I always think about that old guinus book image of the worlds heaviest brothers on their mini bikes. but im about 300 and i really like the thought of a small bike that i can control

I'm on business. Thanks.
I've been looking for a small, lightweight, street legal bike, that I can ship into Juneau, Alaska, for summer work. I'm 325lbs though. It would cost me THOUSANDS to get a cruiser or small car up there, negating the entire point of going up there for work.
Welp when ya think about it the little mini 50 didn't have a load rating on it either. Remember the commercials back then of the 2 big wrestlers riding around on them little 50's. Honda is doing it right. They are now building the toys we tried to kill for grown ups after all these years. I am seriously thinking about getting one. I want red/white one.

Thanks Bill, the Monkey is so much fun! I should have my shock video up this weekend... Thanks for Watching
Andy
Andy thats pretty sweet, I have to re-spring all my dirtbikes, due to my uh ..girth, you might like fork springs also. Good video.
Thanks Bob.. I may do that in the future! It does really well on the road now. I will have a follow up video soon on it! Thanks for Watching
Andy
Love the video! Thanks Andy! My Red Monkey is about here ! I'll be watching your show daily!
Thank you for this vid. I'm about 255 now but have been 315 (4 years ago). I like your story and bike.
This bike has been so much fun! I'm getting close to having 400 miles on it and everytime I ride it I'm just amazed...lol thanks for Watching
Andy
Louder? The feature that sold me on the bike was that it’s so quiet! I love the silence
Andy, love the Monkey- 256lbs and have a set of Olins ordered.
Tom I can say that the cheap shocks work great for what I do with the bike.. if I took it off road I think Ohlins would be the best option!
Thanks for Watching
Andy
Good review Andy...ya make it louder people need to here ya coming , safety first.
JC my only complaint besides the rear shocks is just how quite it is! With a helmet on cruising at 50 mph you can't really hear the bike... It's very subtle! The #Supertrapp exhaust should fix that
This video just made me smile!
I absolutely adore my little 22 Monkey in Blue. I don't miss the power of my other bikes, I have more fun on this than any other bike I've owned, it's a perfect little bike with more smiles per mile than should be legal. I traded in my Tenere 700, no regrets!
I have heard so many other similar stories! These bikes are just so much fun... Never had so much going slow..lol
Thanks for Watching
Andy
Me too!
Not gonna lie, I cackled out loud when you hit the horn! LOL
John in person it has a very RoadRunner sound to it!
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage In my entire life, I’ve ridden a motorcycle about 20 feet. That’s the only bike I’ve ever seen that makes me want to change that.
@@johnwilburn You would love it... At the NNN you need to take it for a spin!
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage I may take you up on that. I’ve been considering taking the motorcycle riders’ course just to learn.
You can adjust the factory rear shocks, I noticed you have them in the lowest settings.
Even with the factory shocks adjusted... There simply wasn't enough spring weight to support me..
Andy
Great little pit bike. I have An old Heald Trail Bronc. Runs on race fuel. Great video.
Thanks Tim... Man it's fun! I've put around 70 miles on in the freezing cold and I still love it...
Looking for a bike to learn to ride on and I wondered what my 5'-3" 200 lbs might look like on a monkey. Monkeys are just cool no matter your size.
I have a totally tricked out Softail at home, but for some reason I want one of these to tool around on back roads
Like the extra camera views. U might need to help that clutch as well.
my dad bought me and my brothers a Z50 in 1974 Andy! got me hooked on motorcycles and raced motocross for a couple years. after I got my driver's license in 1978 it was all cars after that!
Yeah Kurt, Once I got my license it was over for riding go karts or mini bikes.. I went full on into drag racing and restoring my '70 Duster...
Andy
Very cool little bike and video Andy! Durable? Of course, It's a Honda. Was kinda surprised how fast that little Monkey {Murphy) goes! I remember back in the day, a 125cc was twin cylinders, like my old Suzuki. Me and Moma are looking for run around the neighborhood bikes and she likes the Super Cub. Not sure what I will get as it will be a pit bike too. Thanks for sharing. Love and blessings from Motown/Dearborn.
For me I just love the old school throw back looks! I will say in the 65 miles I have rode it... It gets plenty of looks... Most will roll down their window asking what is that? It's awesome! So it made a believer out of me
240 lbs when I bought mine. Now I'm at 220 lbs. But the important part here is my little ruby has to climb a mountain to get to town in wv
I can pull 40 mph up said mtn flats I can do 60 mph
That's pretty impressive... Mine is happy around 45-50mph on flat ground ..once i hit a hill...game over! Lol
Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage I'm ok up hill unless someone in a car is in front and goes slow so you can't get up to speed ,grr . Oh and I weight 210 btw , mine also doesn't go much over 50 .
WOW you look great man, enjoy life. "You meet he nicest people on a Honda"
I am a 300 pound guy on a blue Honda monkey and I love it.
It was at Daytona bike week this year. Lol
Still love my Harleys but this thing is a hoot.
Looks fun lol do a video on Casper update on the mixed up boss
The CASPER and MIXED UP BOSS floodgate will be opening soon! Trust me Im ready..
Andy
Being 300 lbs also I thought about those mini motos but ending up getting a SYM Fiddle 4 200i scooter. It looks like an old Vespa but has a330 lb limited and can cronies 55-60 mph with me on it. Plus it has storage under the seat. Now that the Honda DAX 125 is in the USA in 2024 I might have bought one of them.
Thanks for the video, informative
Andy wheres the wheelie at 😂😂😂 that's a cool bike andy
Terry it was about 40degs when I hit the road... I was frozen when I got back but yes it will do a nice wheelie!
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage 😂😂😂 seriously be careful out there not everyone drives as good as you
This area looks familiar 🤷♀️. Have fun and stay safe. A lot of people don't look out for smaller vehicles on the roadway🙄.
i was looking at the honda novi for a pit bike
Dave the Navi, is a pretty cool bike too... Plus it's cheap! I went with the Monkey in part because of the vintage retro look that really fits with my F100 Casper! Thanks for Watching
Andy
I jumped on your video because I saw that you were 300 pounds. I was actually thinking about getting anywhere between a 300 and a 500 cc scooter. I weigh in about the same. But I caught my eye about your video was your garage. Your left back corner if you looked over your right shoulder is sinking. Only way to correct out is to shoot either aggregate concrete under that corner or use foam injection to lift. Eventually your trusses are going to crack and you’re going to create an opening in your roof.
great video, looking forward to seeing more monkey adventures/ upgrades
Thanks Mike! I will keep them coming.. I will review the shocks once it warms up here in North Carolina..lol Thanks for Watching
Andy
Hi! Hmmm maybe you can do 4 valve porting for this honda? 😅 I had 50cc small monkey back in the day and it was my first 4-stroke. Remember wondering what is that chain in cylinder head!? (cam timing chain..)
Cheers,
-juhana
I may buy a spare head down the road to do some porting on it . The Monkey comes with a 2 valve head... but there are 4 valve conversions out there for the 125cc engine. it would be interesting to put a stock head on DV's flowbench and see what we are working with... in stock trim this engine only makes 9hp!
Andy
The original mini trail didn't have that problem. Of course it didn't have rear shocks. Well, you figured it would need stiffer rear suspension beforehand so I guess that wasn't a SHOCKING discovery.
Yeah I did... so it wasnt a shocker! It is a hundred times better with the new shocks...
Andy
Answers my question. I’m 234 and losing weight. 6’ 1”
i m like 6 2 and 260lb n i drive a colemen around all the time there a 200cc never a issue
I always think about that old guinus book image of the worlds heaviest brothers on their mini bikes.
but im about 300 and i really like the thought of a small bike that i can control
Good Luck trying to find a new one. Honda showrooms are empty. On my list to buy as well. SO, you're sayin' it has a payload factor of x1.5?
I highly recommend getting bar end mirrors for the monkey. If you have board shoulders
Thanks for Watching... I've added the mirror risers/extenders... Made a huge difference!
Andy
SOLD!!!!😃👍, Thanks for your video, Is been a little hard for me to find job due to my age, So I want to start doing Food Deliveries, but with style, I like the monkey for MPG and look, but wasn't sure about weight limits..I'm 260 lbs..Now I know I can do it, with the Titan rack and a nice vintage cooler/cooler in the back.. I'm on business. Thanks.
You should make a video of you riding it as a pit bike at a race!
Respect to you on that jacket.
Thanks Frank!
Andy
Cool. Enjoy
Seems to move him around ok. Upgrade those shocks and hit the road!
It does really good... Cruises really well in the 45-50mph range... Not to shabby for such a small bike! Thanks for Watching
Andy
That's a seriously good looking machine.
I've been looking for a small, lightweight, street legal bike, that I can ship into Juneau, Alaska, for summer work. I'm 325lbs though. It would cost me THOUSANDS to get a cruiser or small car up there, negating the entire point of going up there for work.
Tim, the Monkey would probably be perfect for that! I love this bike Thanks for watching
Andy
You had the wrong song playing when you rode it! When you were riding by it should have been the chorus to "Little Honda".
Trust me I thought about it... Copyright issues!
Dam, you gotta Captain America helmet! I was just thinking about buying one! 😅
Hey it goes cool video man
Yes it does! Thanks for Watching
Andy
Whatever happen with the shocks upgrade and any other upgrades? Just wondering you still riding this or find you rather have a bigger bike now?
Another great video I plan on watching all the monkey ones you do .
I have more on the way... Thanks for Watching Shawn!
Andy
Video of riding?they
W/o mods?
Have you looked into the Lincoln/F150 front end swap?
I have, but for now I'm planning on sticking with the I beam frontend until I see how it does with the new engine setup!
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage there's also making holes in whatever sheetmetal and then use dimple dies to reinforce the panels. Anything to shed weight. Of course I am sure you already know that. Just throwing out suggestions😁.
How did the shocks work out?
Thanks for the video dude and reppin us big guys out there! I've been looking at one of these for a while now. How did the upgraded shock help and work for you?
Cool video!
Thanks Joe... Ready for warm weather!
Andy
Love the retro Honda. Sweet choice for a pit bike man.
Thanks Bad Tree! It's perfect for that.. it's time to get CASPER in fighting trim now..lol I have a ton of work to get done before race season... Thanks for Watching! Love your Videos btw... Great stuff
Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage Thanks Andy, we dig your stuff too brother. Same boat, Nacho still needs a few big things and a lot of little things. Thank God we have all summer for Test and Tune, who knows might try some points racing this year too?
That's my plan too.. I just want warm weather...lol
Love the captian America helmet!
It's actually my helmet for CASPER!
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage so classic!
Pulls pretty good doesn’t it? I got a blue one.
They are awesome!

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage Honda Grom max load is 309 lbs. I'd expect the Monkey to very close that your weight is not an issue. Just no Knievel's OK? LOL Cheers from a 105 F scorching Australia!
YES please do a video after the shock mod. I also am 300 lbs and that scared me away when I found its weight capacity. Does it get up to highway speed quick enough that it's safe to merge on?
Rick I'm getting ready to do a 500 mile review... I will cover those type of questions.. for people looking to buy!
Thanks for Watching
Andy
Did you post that video?
I was looking for it too... 👀
Got to love a good Monkey. What is your 0-60 time. lol Racers going to race you know.
How are the original chain and sprockets holding up? My biggest concern being a big guy on one of those mini bikes would be if the chain would stretch too much or break, or wear down sprocket teeth rapidly. Really want a Grom or Monkey as a little fun bike to take camping, etc.
doesnt matter how big you are ! it matters if you having fun!
I agree... It is so much fun to ride! Thanks for Watching
Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage It's too much power ! ( I have one lol , blue also )
If you read the Owner´s manual for the monkey it only have a safe load capacity of 231lb. Just thought I wanted to let you know.
Dang it now you got me wanting one
See, its addictive! I should have bought it a long time ago...lol
Andy
I'm 300 and ride a stock 2005 Honda 49cc Metropolitan. Relax, its fine
I have my MC license, but never did any riding. I like the Super Cub, I think the Monkey is too much for me. I am leary of riding due to all the serious MC accidents.
Hope you don't end up like UTG, he just keeps buying bikes. You two guys should take a bike ride together, that would be a cool video.
Ted, this is the only one im buying... I have a specific use for it and that is about it. I came close to buying one even before I got involved in RUclips but I didn't... I think its cool now that Casper has a Friend! Thanks for watching
Andy
Will it pull you up a hill from a dead stop?
Yes it does really well... On a steep grade about 35-40mph is about tops..
Andy
Get someone to check how tight your chain gets when you are on the bike.
I’m 300 I’ll give it a shot but I’m torn between the Monkey and the Grom
Hey it's your choice... My buddies have Groms... People seem to flock to the Monkey though... Either way you will have fun! Thanks for Watching
Andy
Hi I'm a 420 pounder and I don't have a monkey but I do ride a grom any recommendations on mods for the bike so i can stop burning my clutch lol ?
great video
Thanks Arthur!
Andy
Awesome video dude! I was thinking about getting one myself and weigh around 260. What kind of speed does it get?
With me on flat road.. it will get up 53-55mph... Wind kills top speed on this bike. It is really happy around 45mph.
Thanks for Watching
Andy
Have you no shame man?
Just kidding 😂 looks like a lot of fun
Not one bit....lol Thanks for watching!
Andy
Why not call this video "Silverback on a Monkey"? Great video!
You are a heavy like me, 250lb. i still want one.
Duane you won't regret getting one! I'm working on a 700 mile review of it that should be up soon...
Andy
Ultimate Pit Bike
Thanks for watching Fredrick! I think it is... Talk about Fun
Andy
exactly the reason i got mine , mom said no in 1970 😂
Now there’s a 500lb guy riding a Chinese Grom clone ( Condor 150 )
