Honda are going to clean up in the retro 125cc market, with the Monkey, the Super Cub, the Grom and now the Dax. Classic designs, Honda quality and cheap as chips to own and run. The Monkey looks top fun, and I was considering one as a second bike, but now they've announced the Dax I think that will be one I'll go for. Great review!
There aren't any plans to bring the Honda CT125 Hunter cub to the Uk. A mate of mine has had one imported from Thailand by a firm calked Seven Seas, but they are pricey at 4.5K. Cheers Dean
I got mine in November when the 2022 models hit Denmark. I absolutely love this bike, for all of the same reasons that you are listing. Love the sound of the engine, too bad the laws for exhaust noise have been tightened in Denmark so I think I'll keep it stock. Even though I'm pretty tall at 6'4" the size is fine, it's actually taller than my Honda rebel. It's so much fun to ride and I get a lot of compliments when I am out on it. The acceleration is pretty good from 0 and the handling is absolutely amazing. Great for city riding.
Hi, I am thinking to buy one myself. Can you please tell me what’s the top speed of yours? Honda says it’s 91 km/h but people on RUclips say that the 2018 model is already slightly over 100 km/h
@@guitarpicker1988 What the speedometer says and what reality is, is not the same. I've had it up to 107 km/h on the speedometer, but that was downhill and according to the GPS is was around 100 km/h. I'd say that your weight is a major factor. I'm about 210 lbs for reference. Steep up-hill I can maybe get 70 km/h.
Absolutely beautiful, I will get one soon. As an engineer the only thing that leaves a bad taste is the direction of the cooling fins. They should be horizontal no like they are now. Other than that I love it.
I still have my 2019 Monkey purchased new and currently on 8000 miles and have enjoyed every minute spent on it. Being a bit of a nerd I have recorded every fill up and am still averaging 168 mpg which is crazy.
I bought a new 2021 Monkey in February of last year, based largely upon your and your father's previous video review. I love that little thing! It and my '21 Street Bob are my only bikes, and I've put 900 miles on my Monkey, mostly riding through my neighborhoods since it's not capable of highway speeds. I'll never sell the Monkey; instead, it'll go to my sons when it's time for them to learn to ride. Thanks for your great video!
I also have a Monkey and a BIG Harley. I prefer to ride the Monkey. Easy to jump on. Nimble, engine does not cook me in the summertime. Just a fun bike all around. I wish they could up the top speed to 70+mph.
Seeing you on this reminded me of a guy, long since deceased, who used to own an original Monkey. He was a nice chap but a bit of a story spinner. Years after doing his National Service during the Korean War in the 1950's, one evening he announced to the lads in the pub bar, just around the corner from my house that he'd shot and killed a Chinese soldier with his army issue Lee Enfield 303 rifle, and as the man fell he uttered the words, ' Aaagh, you Welsh bastard ' ! Anyway, he used the bike for work, erecting targets on Cefn Sidan beach, Pembrey, for RAF fighter plane training. Ideal for rough ground and tellers of tall tales !
I got a 22 black monkey. Love it. Cool little retro bike that looks like the 1977 chrome fendered honda z50 my buddy had when we were kids. I'm about 210 lbs, and it pulls me no problem around town at 45 mph at half throttle on flat ground. Plus, it has off-road capabilities as well all while sipping fuel at a leisurely rate. Financed mine for $80/mo. lol . My cable tv bill was $223/mo before i got rid of them. Perfect bike for people who live in boston, new york, la, etc.
Wife had original which was 70cc engine from the crunchie rode It often great fun it had fold down handle bars and the tank could be sealed so you could pick it up and put it in the car this new one although modern still looks a lot of fun

Quadlock. Excellent product 👍 I would definitely recommend the vibration damper though. As you rightly point out, the camera lens in modern phones can be damaged by constant vibration. The lenses are fitted to a special movable chassis as part of the image stability system. It's this which gets wrecked by vibration.
As a biker living in London, I can tell you that the last thing I want is everyone riding around on these! Nothing better than filtering past the stationary traffic and having the bus lanes all to myself. The main hazards are the bloody pizza boys on their scooters, dodging in and out recklessly. Although I have to grudgingly admit that some of them are pretty skilled and they ride in all weathers, which is more than I can say!
Man... these small bikes look much better than most oversized motorcycles. Besides, it is a Honda. This could easily be passed to your childs and grandchilds...
I bought a Grom 3 years ago as a little run around and to go in van for camping trips and absolutely love it. I probably ride it more than my Triumph now tbh. Did 150km ride on it yesterday! I love the 🐵 and think it’s the cooler looking bike but you can’t ride two up on it, so will stick with Grom. Definitely sounds less labouring on the engine with 5 gears. I dropped a tooth on front sprocket on my Grom to give it more pull up hills as is an older 4 speed model. You should get a new Grom to test too, then a Dax when they arrive in UK. You can then do a mini bike comparison vid! I also have Quadlock on all my bikes (and cars) it’s the best phone case/mount system on market in my opinion. Great review as always 👍
Lucky your Julie was there to help out with the tech stuff! I love my ‘21 Monkey but glad to see they’ve upgraded the rear shocks now as that was an expensive upgrade on mine. Not sure it needed a 5th gear though?
Quadlock should include the vibration reduction device in the current price of a mount. Every single other quadlock customer agrees. The mount without the vibe bit is too expensive.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Btw I hadn't considered the smaller Royal Enfields like the 350 until your video a few days ago. Looks like a good scooter alt. for running errands etc.

Thanks for the review, personally I think Honda have over priced their new Monkey Bike at £3899+ OTR charge, in comparison the Benelli TnT 125 is only £2399 + OTR charge. In my mind the Benelli TnT is a better looking machine than the Honda Monkey.
Yes although benellis are made in China which enables them to keep the costs down. Would be interesting to compare them and see if there’s a difference in quality

Honda, needs to put a rpm display on the Monkey and maybe a few more upgrades and my favorite bike, next to the XR 150LS.
I work 4.5 miles from home so six bucks for fuel for the season sounds really good but I want the 2023 red plaid one
Yes we love the look of that one!
Need to see the “ol man”on this as I’m about the same proportions but it does look a great fun bike👍
Check out our original review from 2020 you can see him ride it. ruclips.net/video/qZOAoW-Yns0/видео.html
It's not cheap toy, but surely worth buying! Lots of fun and one does not really need more :-)
Absolutely 👍🏼
Thank you, yes hopefully we will review the dax and the grom! I agree quad lock is by far the best quality phone mount I have seen
i keep thinking of that scene from Dumb and Dumber
Great video, the opening killed me 😅✨
Thanks buddy haha
me julie looks well happy bruv !!!, nar wot i mean, wicked .
Take care on the road mate and stay safe, peace out ✌
Hahah, thanks bruvva. iiii
Lucky your Julie was there to help out with the tech stuff!
I love my ‘21 Monkey but glad to see they’ve upgraded the rear shocks now as that was an expensive upgrade on mine. Not sure it needed a 5th gear though?
Yes indeed, the shocks were great. Doesn’t really need a 5th gear. It’s more for cruising at 50-60mph so the engine is at lower rpms.
Quadlock should include the vibration reduction device in the current price of a mount. Every single other quadlock customer agrees. The mount without the vibe bit is too expensive.
Good point, hopefully quad lock will see you comment 👍🏻
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Btw I hadn't considered the smaller Royal Enfields like the 350 until your video a few days ago. Looks like a good scooter alt. for running errands etc.
Great review ! I love this little machine. I hope the Dax will come quickly. At this time, thanks for your test.
How tall did you tell you are ?
Thank you, we’re hoping to review that as soon as possible. I am 6’1”
you can be over 2m and drive a monkey
Cute bike. But it wouldn't be safe to ride in a city in the UK. It would be a easy target for thieves. Nice for Japan or any other safe country around the world.
Very true
Brilliant job again, unfortunately that is one bike I won’t be getting…don’t get me wrong, I’d love one except for the fact I’m a lanky 6ft5
Thanks bud, yes that makes sense. Although we had a comment from someone who is 6’4” and said they don’t have any issues. May be worth trying one out!
Occasional Villain, check out "SouperKire" on RUclips, he's 6'6 and a fat arse (in his words) , he loves it and rides everywhere on it . Sorry I'm a year late, hope this changes your mind.
Considered parting with my monkey, but with gas prices and only $100/year insurance and the mpg, straight hold, paid cash $3700 in 2020, banana yellow 2019 :), only has 600 miles
It’s the best bike for the times!
Its appearance entices one into ownership! 😊
Cracking little bike 👍🏻
Sure is!
Exhaust and air filter upgrade and knobbly tires is all you need for the perfect little monkey 😃 love it
That would be awesome!
A great bike and very economical
Indeed!
Wasn't sure you were going to get past 1st gear when setting off 😄. I have a Quad Lock case they are very good.
Yes they are fantastic!
Great review. I did the math. Compared to my 15 mpg truck, the Monkey would take roughly 13k miles to pay for itself. (Your math may differ)
I’m not going to try to work that out lol👍🏼
I hat a nice little bike. I went with a rebel 500 but I love the look of the monkey!
👍🏼👍🏼💯
Me Julie - made my day :) great review, thanks, I'd love a Monkey
Haha thanks! It’s a brilliant little bike!
I have the 2021 in blue and I love it, not a cheap bike in my country xd
It’s great! Oh no that’s a shame.
Love the intro! 😂
Thanks 😁
Cool litle bike! Good video!
Thanks buddy!
Lot of fun👍
Great fun 👍🏻
Not sure why I want one but I want one 😊
sounds better than older versions is the exhaust better than 2 years ago or better mic
The TNT I thought was more like the grom?
I think everyone is missing a good point this will fit in a bin box
