The patience hand speaks very true to me, my CB range on 765 boards vs 3bs, played a pot yesterday where a tripled off with a straight blocker and my opponent called me down with TT on 874, had A5s. I realized that I was putting to my weight on my range and bluffing every half decent good combo at almost full frequency. My opponent probably knew this and was exploiting me based on the snap call, definitely something I’ll add as a sticky note, thanks Phil, been loving the videos.
Thank you so much for sharing this, Phil. The content you're putting out is very refreshing and relatable. It's great to know that a high level poker cyborg like yourself is also a human being who experiences anxieties and self-doubts at times, but has found ways to calm or release these mental-emotional disturbances to regain focus.
Used to be a big winner LHE high stakes. Played part-time at most since the dawn of the solver era. To keep up with the best, I shifted my focus way too much to GTO/balance thinking and lost the edge of my exploitive game. I think it's 90% variance, but my results have suffered. Your videos are a great retraining to shift my thought process back to what it used to be, without completely abandoning the lessons from the modern era. Great content!
Nice and helpful. Same of my notes are "Passive fear mistake": Clear Value (you can bet/ fold ->No problem take it easy) ; or other notes like 1)Oppo Lead Frequency? 2) Oppo Natural Bluff? 3) MDF (cases when doesnt apply) etcc
Great video and content. Love the bit about Protection betting. My stickies are Patience; Realize your equity; Don't be cute, if you've got it, bet it and Pause 5+ seconds before making a decision.
Love it. I try and keep 1-3 sticky notes on my monitor per session as well. Many times they are the same, sometimes its what I'm working on at the time. Would love a video about your pre sesdion routine- warm up etc.
Hi, Phil. Thanks again for a great video. Any chance you'll do a video solely devoted to "protection bets" and as a corollary, reasons why we should or shouldn't bet? I imagine that part of the reason you might check back that 972hh flop with top and bottom pair is not just for the reasons you outlined, but also to inject some strength into your checking range - and with limited scope on topics I also imagine there's not enough room to talk about that or other reasons why checking can have more potential benefits than betting for protection.
love getting peeks on how you approach the game phil thanks for sharing! its frustrating to me that even a player like you doesnt have definite answers on most questions relating poker. shows how many variables there are and the complexity of the game.
I thought the insights were very helpful, and they reminded me of a late friend who always had an empty cigarette pack with the words "don't call" on it at the table playing NL Lowball. It's not that he never called.. He just figured he needed a voice in his head to counter the natural tendency to "keep them honest" and the voice wasn't always saying "fold." Lots of times it was saying "raise."
I've really gone overboard with my protection bets after losing numerous flopped boats to quads on the river or bigger boats. I have no doubt the regs have noticed this and have adapted. That being said I'd much rather lose a hand where I got the money in good than having to call a ridiculous reraise on the river after drastically under representing my hand. I suppose I just answered my own problem by simply not under repping my hand but also not betting/overbetting pot
Great contest, as always! I am wondering, though, if this voice is coming from the same person :-) Cause I keep hearing the same thing as you, Phil! And it also yells sometimes :(
I have a picture of a homeless dirty dude... To remind me where I'll end up of the river is bad. Helps to take off some stress, you know... 😂😂😂 But in all seriousness, the "think about it, like, really think about it" note is quite mandatory. Even if you lose or whatever, you're sharpening your mind in general. 😊
Power is a struggle for me more Live. You? It's because of the interaction of being present with opponent and also because stakes are typically much bigger where one wrong power move kills your session.
Lately I’ve been feeling like I don’t know how to correctly size my bets and get too many callers preflop and when to reraise on the flop and River I feel like when I c bet I do it okay, I just feel like I could be getting more value in the spots I’m put in. Any advice? Maybe I’m too passive but sometimes I feel like I play very aggressively and it always goes better when I play aggressive.
I just can't fold good marginal hands even tough I know I'm 95% beat. Aces against set for example. Besides that I play solidly but that habit pretty much cancels my winnings
Hey Phil, we have a running joke at our home game that my buddy Cris is an angler. Can you reply to this calling him an angler so we can make a meme poster from it?

Thanks Phil. I'd love to see the video on why betting for protection is overvalued.
Thanks for your thoughtful insight 👍

Awesome, thank you! Great notes!

That's a great idea! I’ll add it to the list 🙂
Oddly, just after watching this video, a Post-It note appeared on my monitor. It says "Patience! Some pots aren't mine"!
Love it! And absolutely love the Power concept. Would love to see the PG pre-session prep vid :)
Thanks, Alex! I love that idea. Let me think about how to do it.

Glad you found it helpful! I think the fact that nobody has it figured out makes it more fun! Everyone is beatable.
This might be single most valuable poker video I have ever seen in my life ❤🧡💛💙💜🤎🤍

If you need physical trinkets to remind you not to play like a fish...
I love that!
@@berdyderg900 instead you need a big chart to tell you exactly what to do and when
@@mhamid8529 projection I assume..? You know I'm right right if you aren't also some dullard fish
This is what I needed to hear today! Thanks a lot Phil
Glad it was helpful!

Love your content Phil but the Bass in your videos is soooo high please balance the audio as well as your ranges!
Thanks Phil
You’re very welcome!
I didn't realize people used them to write. I thought they were for blocking webcams on compromised computers...
😂
Fantastic video!!!
Thank you very much, Adriano!
This bloke is such a legend...would love to have a bank roll to play x
Phil, can you recommend a good solver for a person who is just starting to use a solver?

"gameplan no protection"
his opponents 9 months later 🤰

We all suffer from it!
I was thinking of getting some sticky notes the other day , now I really have to
Glad I gave you the final push!
I hate to complain because I highly appreciate the free content, but the audio is brutal in this video.
Yep, the last two videos we had an audio mishap. It won’t happen again.
👍🏼
