Just in case anyone wondered; the Sega Game Gear has been modded with VGA output (McWill mod) and that was how I was able to capture gameplay footage from real hardware :)
As usual, RHS, you never fail to entertain us, and even with the concept of Straight to The Point, your classic humor shines through. You were also able to knock out a But Does It Work on Real Hardware in one fell swoop! Well done. Speaking of BDIWORH, if you're taking suggestions, I'm wondering if you can try Streets of Rage 2: Syndicate Wars. If you don't have the time, that's okay.
I expect the Seizure Shoes probably weren’t as horrific on real hardware because the screen blurs and ghosts, so the flickering would just look like 1 colour in the middle of the two.
I always kind of had a soft spot for Sonic Labyrinth. For what it is, it's a functional little game that'll keep you distracted for an hour or so. That may not sound impressive, but for 1995, that was pretty much all you could ask of a handheld game that wasn't a first party Nintendo title.
pretty sure the first time I had heard about Labyrinth was in Sonic Jam's history timeline back in 96 or 97. I was happy to finally get my hands on a copy years later... it's not remarkable, and I think part of the "slow" gameplay was a product of the hardware and especially the poor screen on the GG at the time. The game is slightly flawed, but absolutely playable, certainly a fun novelty, and still not worse than Sonic 4.
Meanwhile at the plot meeting... "How about Dr R makes a special evil version of the speedup monitor?" "Nah" "How about he creates some kind of evil dimension with different physics?" "Nah" "How about he sneaks into Sonic's house?" "PRINT IT"
so I've been trying to play sonic time twisted but for some reason, the game is completely silent and whenever I finish the first act, the signpost spins to match who I'm playing as but it never moves on to the next act, it just stays on that screen, if I have a shield the animations for the shield seem unaffected. as it is I am left with a silent game where I can only play the first act, does anyone know how to fix this?
Ever wondered what happens if you port Sonic 3D Blast to the game gear than you took the cartridge and snapped it in half, you get Sonic Labyrinth and Sonic Blast!
They honestly should have added some way to move even a little faster. It just seems ridiculous to not have done so & expect you to casually slowly walk your way thru levels. Terrible design really.
If you want a terrible Game Gear game, try Taz Mania. Makes Sonic Labyrinth look like a master piece in comparison. I feel this game game gets a lot more hate than it deserves. It's like dissing Super Mario Land on Game Boy. It's not Mario's best game, but for what it does on the Game Boy, you get a sweet short experience. It's funny because I've played Sonic Labyrinth 53 times on the Nintendo 3DS, and many times when I had a working Game Gear. It's just a nice Game Gear to beat if you have an hour to spare. It is one of the games that does take advantage of the Game Gear's many colors (more than Mega Drive), and the music is nice (but nothing great to listen on it's own). I can see why some people don't like his slow speed, but he is wearing shoes that slows him down. It's just a shame the game doesn't explain this as this would have calmed a few angry players. Saying that, I don't think his speed is THAT bad, and you can still zip around using his Spindash. Is it an "abomination"? I don't think so. A good Game Gear game if you can look past it's floor.
There's a video by the guy from traveller's tales that where he talks about making the 3d blast engine I highly recommend it, it's such an usual approach to making a game on the platform
I always thought it was a pretty good game... I understand why people thought it were rubbish, by comparison to the original games. The music is really awesome though, they had someone who really knew what they were doing and really pushed the machine, you can hear the desperation in the music.
Sonic Labyrinth are like those many Sonic Games release in the nineties : painfully average and lacking resources. Well, at least, it's not the trainwreck that is Sonic Blast
Its all just a bit of fun really. As a sonic fan I'm supposed to hate this game but I don't, its just something to mess about with thats all Edit: PS love your video style 👍
No need for those, since the performance in those isn't gonna be any different from standalone Sonic 3. I'm still waiting for a 50hz vs. 60hz video on Sonic Spinball.
Just in case anyone wondered; the Sega Game Gear has been modded with VGA output (McWill mod) and that was how I was able to capture gameplay footage from real hardware :)
Looks clean!

Also, I have a suggestion: can you do a BDIWORH video with the GG2SMS hacks? Thanks.
You read my mind!
The image looks really good!
I expect the Seizure Shoes probably weren’t as horrific on real hardware because the screen blurs and ghosts, so the flickering would just look like 1 colour in the middle of the two.
Not to mention that the screen is also quite small and pretty dim.
They did fix that in the 3DS virtual console version.
They're not seizure👟just another RUclips channel their speed shoes
Considering the pace of the flashing, I doubt it.
@@Tom-jw7ii thats still way to much flashing like holy crap its a freaking strobe light

flashing lights seem to be eggman's most diabolical weapon
Too bad it's lethal for the player and not Sonic.
"Stright to the point"
0:51 first degree murder :V
jokes aside, simple, short and great!
This game is the result of a combination of a great engine with a poor execution.
pretty sure the first time I had heard about Labyrinth was in Sonic Jam's history timeline back in 96 or 97. I was happy to finally get my hands on a copy years later...

Fair enough.
Guess dr. Robotnik hoped sonic is epileptic
I've been waiting for a new video! Thanks!
This was a really fun video! Thank you!!!
0:05 that was actually a smooth transition
Man To This Day I Laugh at how clean this transition is 0:03
i remember playing this a little boy in the gems collection and thinking it was the hardest sonic game ever XD
0:42 Hedgehogs
- Sharp fangs like wolves
- Incisors are tiny and stop growing at adulthood.
Definitely a rodent, right?
Dr. Robotnik is evil enough to steal his shoes, but kind enough to not kill his arch nemesis.
So not all is lost, kinda good guy :D
Simple. Concise. Stright-forward.
That's Straight to the Point.
Cool Video Redhotsonic

They should've called Japanese Sonic Labyrinth "Sonic Stright"
Yo keep up the amazing work you inspired me to start my own channel!!
How did I beat this game
"epilepsy warning! Flashing screen in 3... 2.. 1.." Me: OWOWOWOWOWOWO

They made Sonic into Chronic
And that's 'Stright to the point.'
i wrecked my sleep shedule, so i woke up at 10:22. what did i miss?
My favorite Game Gear Sonic games are Sonic 1, Chaos and Triple Trouble.
the point is awesome

Isn’t he a blue marsupial?
Hmm Sonic Labyrinth? Never heard of it until now.
1:08 (thump)
Thats awsome :)
Sonic arcade game 1993 same camera view as this 1995 game yes the arcade game had it
am i weird for actually enjoying sonic blast, not 3d blast
Ever wondered what happens if you port Sonic 3D Blast to the game gear than you took the cartridge and snapped it in half, you get Sonic Labyrinth and Sonic Blast!
And in case your wondering, you wouldn’t be able to put them back together since you snapped your cartridge instead of splitting the roms.
For some reason the internet grouphates this game but it's pretty fun
I played it once then stopped because I did not know why Sonic was slow.
Off topic but sonic 3d blast(saturn version) or Sonic 3d blast directors cut
Why couldn't-
He just be normal speed
I also hated this game, removing speed from sonic is like removing wheels from cars.
You should try sonic 1 alt next
what's up kirb

Sonic labyrinth i think is a good game
would have been funnier if it was "stright to the point"
I liked this game ._.
Sonic D blast
this game maybe good or not :I
The game is so terrible but it was kinda fun to pass the time. I dunno :P
ive never played Sonic labyrinth before but by seeing the gameplay it seems tedious and boring.
They honestly should have added some way to move even a little faster. It just seems ridiculous to not have done so & expect you to casually slowly walk your way thru levels. Terrible design really.
Speed Shoes exist.
@@xspranp7649 That still doesn't excuse the clearly awful traversal.
@@skins4thewinYou move slow to adjust yourself.
This game is about rolling and momentum
@@PKSunset Just saying, there should've been a spin dash or something to increase speed when warranted.
Second
Nope, and nobody would care anyways.

oh i mean number 2
it's not a bad game, but it's a TERRIBLE sonic game.
The 3DS Virtual Console version actually tones down the flashing lights from the speed shoes.
If you want a terrible Game Gear game, try Taz Mania. Makes Sonic Labyrinth look like a master piece in comparison.

This game would be a lot better if this was remade with the 3D Blast engine.

Glad to see your wife is getting straight to the point in taking care of you! 🤣
3:01 epilepsy shoes
Pouring water on my eyes is the last thing I would probably do for flashing lights but ok.
The 3ds version turn off the epilepsy
That's good to know!
I remember playing this on the Gamecube! My initial reaction was wtf is this for a game? Great video as always!
Thanks for the warning about the flashing earlier on. Your wife sure does love getting her own back at you. XD
I love Straight To The Point man, it is a simple saga.

3:01 - Before Pikachu, there was Sonic Labrynth.
I'm surprised this game wasn't recalled because of the seizure-inducing power-ups!
It's 3D bad not 3D blast
Love it when I've been binge watching your videos and I catch a new one shortly after..love this channel!

Very funny video and great review :)
I believe I read in the encyclo-speed-ia there were guillotines in this game.
I want to play Sonic games but i don't know which emulator to choose?

try sonic & ashuro in the megadrive and sonic 2 cd remix in the megadrive jp version

1 and 2 and Right Key! In Zone 2-3 "Fuji 1 Goh"
Wait. Why cant you play sonic labyrinth in the 3DS. It doesn't have epilepsy when you get the speed shoes.
But does it work on imaginary hardware?
Negative livea are non existent but a signed 8 bit integer
Scratching the butt bit is so funny

It's fine until 3-3. I cannot complete without looking at the internet.
