This dude looks like the Anime Man, very good impersonation
He also does a good impersonation of Dr. Jelly.
Yea he also reminds me of Josh the manga lad
Lol
Lol
But this guy actually talks about anime, so it can’t be him.
Give it another 10 years and Joey is known as "anime historian"
That title is already taken by Kenny Lauderdale
Anime historian man
Wouldn't be qualified on "modern ankme history" though lol
@@trollface9903 I sure love ankme
What, I think K-ON season 2 is pretty much better than S1 in every aspect. In S1 they speedran through two entire school years in only 14 episodes, and S2 finally let the show and development breath more by having the last school year be 27 amazing episodes. Not to mention how it accumulates into an amazing finale.
Same. Preferred season 2 as well.
K-ON S2 is leagues better than S1, idk wtf he's on
Yeah it is so much better, Joey is crazy
Dude said in one of TT episodes that k-on movie serves no purpose,we shouldn't take anything seriously from him about k-on
S2 had a great finale, but i wouldn't say all that episodes were worth it.
Movie is fine.
I hope Joey does this for at least every year in the 2010s.
We all know which one is #1 for 2011
My fav anime *Steins;Gate*
Same
2011. Steins;Gate
- Madoka Magica
- Fate/Zero
- Hunter x Hunter (2011)
- Mirai Nikki
- Chihayafuru
- Ben-To
- Gosick
- Usagi Drop
- Mawaru Penguindrum
- Kimi to Boku.
Definitely between Fate/Zero, S;G and Madoka for me
and 2000s
@luci well I do, but it all comes down to personal taste at the end. I don't see why Madoka wouldn't be able to compete with these shows, it's legendary in its own way too
I found Season 2 of K-On! to be really strong narratively. I don't think it does a ton different, but I thought it did the Slice of Life way better than Season 1. Season 1 does have the benefit of packing a lot of memorable moments into a 1-Cour season, while Season 2 was 2-Cour and definitely had some slow moments. I think I still like Season 2 better due to the graduation arc.
Probably he enjoyed S1 more because he watched it with the musician perspective, when in reality K-on! is not about the music as it is about HTT the people (a.k.a slice of life) but S1 focus seems to go more on the band establishing itself so probably more relatable for a musician I think (?)
It's quite opposite for me i remember like the entire s2 pf k-on years after watching it especially ep 20 and 24 those were wonderful. Still my top 5 anime
I rewatched k-on a year ago after more than a decade of not watching it, and while the first season has its moments, probably I would had regarded it as a mere cute show to watch when you had a long day at work. But then episode 13 surprised me a lot through its subtle narrative and atmosferic vibe. There I noticed there was hidden potential and there was people with talent behind it.
Then I watched season 2 and I was pleasantly surprised about how it improved at every single thing and I fell in love with it. The sharper animation, the stellar direction, the subtle moments and the gentle melancoly had me invested. Then, I rewatched it again and season 1 became more enjoyable just from the fact that I already know these characters and I could notice inmediately how different they are from start to finish due to their subtle development. And there I noticed more details that I didn't noticed before, and before I knew it, I became a hardcore fan.
K-On! was actually the first music anime I got into and it quickly became one of my favourite series, but as I got older and more experienced as a guitarist and musician (2009/2010 was actually when I started playing at about 10-11 years old) and I’ve since taught myself to play a number of songs from that anime because holy shit there are some fucking killer riffs in those songs and I still love it to this day
Honestly! I started playing Bass around that time, and even now trying to play Go Go Maniac is a workout!
@@reddevil944 I’ve tried learning that song in both guitar and bass and it’s absolutely insane, Mio’s part definitely gives your hands a workout lol
If you wanna watch something similar to k on you should try bocchi the rock.
Kaichou Wa Maid Sama is still my favourite Romance Anime of all time 😍
Still expecting a Remake just like Fruits Basket
Would like at least a continuation, but a remake would be nice.
I hope the same would happen to Ouran Highschool Host Club.
Spoil me I dropped it like 8 years ago after 20 episodes
Omg I want that. Especially if they adapt the later stuff!
After watching the anime, I went and read the manga to see what happens to their story!!
Dear joey, you don't know me but I've been watching your content for a while now. As stupid as it seems, you, garnts, and Connors videos have always brought a smile to my face, you've showed me shows that have brought a smile to my face, and have made me laugh in times when I felt I couldn't. So this is a thank you, to one of my favorite content creators that inspire me to be a better person. Thank you.
they literally changed my life fr
They make me smile too! I remember I was about to distance myself from watching anime. But thanks to Joey, he helped bring back the passion for watching anime for me!
Nowadays, I think I've watched WAY more animes than I did back when I was a teen.
@@shawtyvro You changed your own life.
Such a wholesome thread. Also I agree, those three are definitely among my fav content creators. Such a delight to watch them individually or on their podcast
@@shawtyvro they don't care
Angel Beats! in my opinion, is "the best isekai-ish anime in all of the isekai anime so far" 😂😂 This anime and CLANNAD simply hit different and deserve an even more wider recognition than what they already has.
True!
The songs from Angel Beats still make me emotional to this day. I remember being able to learn how to play by ear in the piano just by practicing Ichiban no Takaramono tirelessly as a 10 year old. How the years go by.
Interesting idea by joey to showcase new creators on his channel to give them exposure, whoever this guy is I'll have to check him out. His theanimeman impression is pretty on point.
I audibly cheered “YES” when Shiki came up. It is still one of my favorite stories in anime, and it’s way underrated.
I feel like no one talks about Shiki 😭
I did too hahahaha
Same, but I was a bit disappointed that he only put it in the B tier
Same
It is at least an A tier
Every time I remember Baka & Test exists, I get this warm feeling in my chest, remembering being in high school and watching it with my friend (still my friend to this day), laughing, noticing some neat little animation and art style quirks for the first time, and pretending that Hideyoshi didn’t give us Weird Gender Feelings. Good times I look back on fondly.
I will never rewatch it.,
Baka and Test lives in my head rent free. I love this show. I still find it funny and I lowkey get invested in Yoshi’s journeys throughout. I rewatch it annually.
I actually waiting for joey to do this. fantano year ranking is such breath of fresh air
Fantano's year rankings are so entertaining to watch lol
for real
I really wish we got longer version of Angel Beats, it deserved to have it's story explored to full extent :(
We might get an actual character
That’s isn’t boring
Even as a huge fan of BakaTest (which I think I might need to rewatch now to re-evaluate) and The World God Only Knows, I feel that these rankings are pretty fair. And you've reminded me that I need to go back and finish Maid-Sama too.
I would definitely put K-ON s2 on S tier, because it's the only anime that perfectly capsulated the experience of School friendship, it literally made me cry just by the thought of them graduating
I remember watching Angel Beats on Netflix on the Wii back in the day. Glad to see it’s still holding up and people are enjoying it to this day! Thanks for the nostalgia Joey, always a pleasure watching your vids!
Funny story I watched angel beats it's probably in the top 10 "worst" anime I have ever seen up there with evangelame, code lameass & legend of galactic garbage. Although some other anime come pretty close to being as bad like Mononoke, Ergo Proxy, Paranoia agent, FLCL, The tatami galaxy, Gintama & classroom of the elite, etc.. And I strongly believe that even boruto has better story writing and characters than lame as angel beats. I'm not even trolling either that's how bad Angel beats is when even an anime as bad as boruto is 10x better
actually I was wrong, Steins gate is the worst anime i've seen they really stared at a microwave for 13 episodes non stop and absolutely nothing happened for 13 full episodes while the MC just annoyed me so much most unlikeable characters ever and most boring anime ever
@@GrowingDownUnder If your gonna troll, don't make it so obvious
@@ivansoto9723 Nah it's not a troll they're actually bad anime I just didn't explain why they're bad because that would take too much time. So instead all I will say is Story & characters make an anime great and there's a lot of other things too and those anime I mentioned either have bad story writing, bad characters or they have something else about them which is really bad. And for an anime to be great it must do everything well or most things well at minimum it must have good Characters & Story.
On the Wii... My god, the memories.. Take my upvote
That video was so nostalgic as I got into anime in 2011. Late 2000s to early 2010s is the golden age of anime to me
This list is so nostalgic, now I wanna rewatch some of these shows to see how well they hold up
Found Season 2 of K-On to be stronger in terms of character dynamic. Sure Season 1 might have a lot more memorable moments maybe due to the fact that it’s a breath of fresh air to our eyes, but the narrative and character dynamic of Season 2 is better for me. The addition of Azusa really added a lot of sweetness and flavor to the group, not to mention that graduation song for Azusa still makes me cry to this day.
I'm just happy that The World God Only Knows is on there. So good
Early 2000s & 2010s were definitely my favorite times in general let alone for anime. When I grow elderly and I have nothing else better to do I'll be sitting at home sipping tea and rewatching my favorite animes throughout my life. Not a bad way to spend your time before you pass I'd say.
Really happy that you mentioned The World God only knows. The main character of the show is one of the best MC in a harem show. I liked his relationship with Shiori and also the bittersweet ending.
The best harem MC that no one mentioned
Hell fucking yeah!
Keima is the goat, the fact that I still remember him to this day speak wonders about him. He reminds me a bit to Araragi from monogatari series due to how polyfacetic he can be depending on the situation or the character he is talking to.
YESSSSSS! Maid-sama S tier!!!🙏 I literally screamed when you placed it there😭🙏
I knew about your love for S tier husbando Takumi, but to rate the whole show so high... God bless you, Joey!😌
Hope there will be a remake just like Fruits Basket
@@marcuszeus5552 damn this would be a dream
Kaichou wa Maid sama and Fruit Basket is definately S tier for shoujo
Sexist garbage series
Man I was so happy to see TWGOK on the list. That series is my jam! Also fun to be reminded of others like Baka and Test. I also remember laughing at that show SO much
Completely agree on Bakuman. Possibly the best marriage of Tsugumi Ohba's wonderful character writing and intelligent plots with Takeshi Obata's visceral but fun art style. While it doesn't have as strong a duo as Death Note's Light and L, it has a much more memorable ensemble cast and getting to see such a range of artists through both their personalities and their art was wonderful. It's also just a lot of fun :)
Reading Angel beats visual novel is such a throwback. All the joke, the character, the emotion are still there, just like the first time I watch the show. What a shame that that VN is only contain half of the story
Shame the anime was slow and boring
Mid
@@BurningRubber454should've stopped sniffing burning rubber, then maybe your taste would've improved
God only knows (made by Oratorio) full version from the World God Only knows is still the longest anime song I know. And it's beautiful.
Almost all of the full versions of TWGOK openings reach the ten minute mark or more. They're all beautiful.
Do one for every year. This is interesting and nostalgic, also a nice throwback to the days where I was addicted to anime and MAL 😂
The nostalgia trip on this was real. I remember watching almost all of these when they came out. I'd love to see more of these.
Whereas I was ten and all I knew about was Pokemon.
I think the 2 greatest anime to come out in 2010 were Tatami Galaxy and Katanagatari. Both are underrated masterpieces, and timeless in quality.
Agreed
Bro, I tried watching katanagatari. It was boring as hell. Episodes were 50 minutes each. I just couldn't get into it. The lore/story is a bit questionable too.
@@IdOnThAvEaUsE69 Really? I think the 50 minute episodes is what allows it to have one of the most perfect pacing I’ve seen in anime-in one episode it often explores more than most shounen in a season. The character dynamics and dialogue are excellent, the art-style is beautiful, the soundtrack is awesome, and it is a series that only improves as it goes on, culminating in one of the best endings in anime.
The lore isn’t questionable either, idk where you got that from.
Give it another chance, maybe you’ll enjoy the second half more.
I did love it more on a re-watch, as well. It’s a show I’ve grown to love, not one that I was necessarily blown away by immediately.
@@寂び侘び-b6s I feel like it's trying to be Bunny Girl Senpai but ended up being The detective is already dead.
@@IdOnThAvEaUsE69 lol it is not.
Not only did it come out way before Bunny Girl Senpai, but it is also much better in every aspect, so idk what you’re on about.
I almost agree completely with these placings, not bad. Love how you mentioned Baccano as a must watch, yes!
Nostalgia just hits me! I started watching anime seasonaly at 2010s and what a ride it was, so many great openings, so many new stories to discover ♥ it feels like the best year it was
Joey saying that Angel Beats made him cry like a bitch basically nailed it. I don't cry very often, but I can honestly say that Angel Beats was the first thing I ever watched that also made me cry like a bitch.
I almost feel asleep was hard to watch
(Can’t watch more then 3 episodes)
Edit: I did Finsh it
I second this. First and only anime that made me cry like a bitch.
I watched it and felt nothing man, I was around 14 and couldn't get into the drama, I need to rewatch it but I remember finding it very average
@@alexdelarge5703 it's not for everyone. But the opening of the series and it's music are absolute bangers
Angels beats: no and was questioned if I and a heart
I responded with saying clannad killed me.
That was great. Do more of these please!
For Angel Beats, the only thing that keeps it from being S-Tier for me is the pacing of the story, especially in the back half. I heard their episode count got halved, so I’m sure that’s why, but I would have liked to have seen what Jun Maeda could have done with a full two seasons. Ah well.
I loved Durarara!! even more than the light novel and I really do think that was the full presentation. The music was incredible, the animation, the performances, the story and the pacing (for the most part). I wish Baccano would get another shot at an adaptation.
I just recently watched Shiki and enjoyed it, though I definitely agreed on the edge thing.
Shiki was also one of the few last animes that had crazy hairstyles for almost all of its characters. Animes these days don't do crazy hairstyles anymore :(
Well, They recently announced a Tachibana scale figure. That's a testament to that series greatness!
I suppose I'll need to put K'on, Bakugon, The world only God knows & Shiki on my queue. The rest I've seen & enjoyed, but have not watched any of them recently, though.
Such an excellent idea for a series Joey. Keep up the great work. Would love to see the rest of the 2010's.
K-On is always gonna be in my top 3, I just watched it at a rough point of my college years and K-On! just gave me full on high school happy nostalgia, absolute goated S TIER anime
It really is Naoko Yamada at her best
Omg an Anime video from the Anime man! hehe. The world god only knows was soo good! Also the manga for Kaichou wa maid-sama was a great read...
Time really flies...
HighSchool Of The Dead is also one of my favorite guilty pleasure series that I unironically love! I’m a massive sucker for anything involving zombies and if you just wanna have a good time watching a fun show then HighSchool Of The Dead is perfect! I wish we could get a season 2 so badly. RIP Daisuke-sensei
Edit: Also I hope if there are more videos like this I hope you go up to at least 2018
Fabulous video, Joseph!
Angel beats was my first anime (other than stuff like pokemon), about 3 years ago. And it is still one of my favourites
I fanboyed so hard when he mentioned Kaichou was Maid Sama. Truly the greatest shoujo manga to ever exist.
I remember back in the day it was at the top of every Shoujo/Romance anime list, and everybody’s number 1 husbando was Usui Takumi. Good times man.
As much as I DO adore Kaichou wa Maid Sama... my favorite shoujo is Akatsuki no Yona. Nothing beats it for me.
@@duchessliz2415 AGREED. That manga is criminally underrated! Don’t know why it’s not more popular.
Sexist garbage series
Agreed. Other CRIMINALLY underrated shoujos are kamisama kiss and akatsuki no yona.
Other than Durarara being A tier instead of S, I'd say you are pretty spot on with your list.
Oh man I miss the days when Durarara was still coming out, some fun times were had on the BBS
You don't understand the chills I got on the first season of drrr, It was something I've never seen before. It was literally a masterpiece.
@@Drae_mon DRRR is the anime that got me back into anime. I def remember the chills I got the first time watching, and it's something I'll never get with another anime ever again. IWGP is a rly great show btw, it's what DRRR was based on
dang I remember 2010 was the year I really got into anime, I was an eighth-grader at the time (chuuni I know) and watched pretty much every series on this list. Bakuman, Kaminomi (world god only knows) and K-ON really changed my life back in the day and helped me cope with my depression at the time. 2010 was the most traumatic year of my life due to life events but thanks to anime I still had lots of fond memories to look back on.
I clicked on this video because I saw Angel Beats in the S tier and want to hear Joey sing praises for one of my favourite animes
Damn Angel Beats on S tier!! Thanks.
The opening too might be in my top 5 ops of all time.
Kaichou wa maid-sama as well!
Love those two anime...
This guy has a talent for this. I think he should make an anime centric youtube channel and call it something like The AnimeGuy
More of this please. I like your content regardless, but I've missed you talking about anime & manga more often.
Durarara!! will always have a special place in my heart 💞 Along with Baccano! and all his other novels. Ryohgo Narita definitely is the GOAT
K-ON! in b tier shattered my heart and then you sent my soul to the other world with including the world God only knows in there too.
Great video tho, would like you picking the shows of the era and not only top ten of myanime list :)
Finally Josh is talking about anime XD
Thats what i thought
I’d love to see more videos like this for other anime of the 2000s and 2010s, maybe in a top 20 form or done on a live stream to get some chat interaction.
Hey Joey! Hope you can keep doing these for more years! You may not watch much recent Anime, but sure would like to hear your opinions on older ones (as recent as you know them)
God hearing the world God only knows is such a throwback, not much people talk about it as one of the older and popular anime, would really wish more people would talk about it.
Personally I find 2011 to be a better vintage year than 2010 for anime. That year we had Madoka Magica, AnoHana, Steins Gate, Fate Zero, Nichijou to name a few.
Definitely good times around then. That said, I own 7/10 of these shows so I consider 2010 to be a good year as well.

I guess I need to rewatch Elfen Lied. I remember it being very good, but according to you it does not hold up in rewatches now that we are older. Even as a dude that does not get too emotional about content I have a distinct memory of tearing up while watching Elfen Lied originally.
We need Joey and Melon collab
The first anime i ever watched was Angel Beats! back in 2011. The main reason i started watching Angel Beats! first is because it started with the letter A in the library of my streaming app on my Ipad 1. Never regretted it because this started my love for Anime and Japan.

wow this was so nostalgic! angel beats broke me, and durarara was my fave!!

If you just want to know how awesome K-on is just watch the live concert when 35,000 fans pack the Saitama Super Arena on February 20, 2011. Aki Toyosaki who voices Yui Hirasawa and plays the garter just shreds. She's that good.
Was mostly just interested to see where you put Bakuman, and you didn't disappoint, Joey xD
After finishing this one anime called Romantic Killer, I was looking for another romcom where the protag is thrusted into ridiculous situations. I happened to remember The World God Only Knows, and after giving it a few episodes, and I think it's just okay. Honestly, I might not watch season 2, but I still got a few episodes left.
Season 3, despite skipping content is where the story peaks.
Also kanon nakagawa album is pretty nice to listen to. You should check it out.
@@GenerationZ313 it's quite weird how season 3 can be the worst adaptation ever (due to how the cutted content is detrimental to the story and due to ruining some of the mistery going on) and also the best adaptation ever at the same time. But yeah, even with that, season 3 is the peak.
Just from the ending of the first episode is a wild ride from start to finish.
I actually really like this video where you cover older anime, it's refreshing from everyone talking about exclusively new series.
VERY unpopular opinion: I found Angel Beats to be just... okay
Didn't really care about the characters, didn't get invested into the story and didn't get teary-eyed. It's a decent show, but one that didn't really stand out from the rest for me. If it matters, I watched it in 2014 (I was 15 at the time), and while other shows of the time gripped me and got me emotional, Angel Beats just... didn't. Maybe I missed something, or maybe I was too young to fully get the message of the show ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The obvious problem with Angel Beats is the fact that is only 12 episodes, speedrunning every character departure when we barely knew them for half the anime and other characters just got completely ignored, and the backstories are pretty superficial being relevant just for a single scene.
Little Busters for me ( the Visual Novel more than the anime ) was Angel Beats done right, you spend a lot of time doing mundane stuff and learning about the characters and while there's a variation of quality the main story and its final moments are actually the best from Jun Maeda if we're talking about the emotional aspect, everything else for me ( Clannad, Angel Beats, Charlotte ) tried too hard to be tragic or sad for my taste.
Maid Sama always been one of my favorite shojo's of all time couldn't agree more and I've recommend it for sure to newcomers plus with Highschool of the Dead wish it got a continution so bad
that's so weird to me that you prefer k-on season1 over s2, personally the first time I watched it (like 4 months ago) I didn't really care for it that much while watching season1 and even considered dropping it, but during season2 I really fell in love with it and ultimately gave it a 9/10. On rewatch though, season1 is way better than I remembered it to be, but I still feel season2 is easily better and feels more solid
@TheChainTV yeah season2 made me cry like a baby multiple times..
Damn, that's really a throwback, I didn't even notice myself, that most of my favorite shows are from 2010. I can agree with Joey's list, but I would've switched places for Baka to Test and K-ON, aaaaaand probably move Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai up to A tier.
Maid-sama badly needs a remake! one of my favorite anime!
Sexist garbage
Definitely would like to see a set of these going backwards in years starting with 2009 and maybe stopping at some point in the 1970's? It would also be cool to see a series going forward with all of the top tens for each year and ending at 2019 (One of the best years for anime ever).
'I am a k-on fan'
Puts it in B-tier,below Highschool of the dead. And says S2 is worse than S1
This is a genuinely good format to talk about anime!
K-On s2 is S tier. All of K-On is S Tier
This can’t be real, The Anime Man doing anime content?
K-ON introduced me to the “Cute Girls Doing Cute Things (CGDCT)” genre.
I always said “That’s not gonna be my thing.”
I was wrong. It’s such a comfortable experience.
Angel Beats, Kaichou wa Maid Sama, Bakuman wow. I miss anime from back then and they're all came out 12 years ago? I felt old xD
Man I'm sorry even if K-On season 1 was better, season 2 still deserves A tier minumum.
I'd love to see you even go pre-2010. Was a lot o fun!
Saying K-On s1 is better than s2 is definitely a wild take to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love s1 but I think that somehow s2 managed to improve upon pretty much every aspect of it.
aaah those were the days where I can still watch multiple anime in one sitting. and now, 5 mins in the show I be scrolling back to youtube :( but wow I agree with Joey in almost everything in this list also Yurippe Best girl! So as not to spoil it, the end of Shiki really pissed me off. For those who know…. 🤦🏾♀️
i get why people are angry, but it felt thematically appropriate
please do this for all years until now :)
K-On is without a doubt the best anime of 2010
I also used to watch everything related to anime by this time, now I watch, but not nearly as much. So many memories, my Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu that kids these days don't even know it exists. Good times.
Love to see Joey talking about anime again, do it whatever way you want to do it, but please keep doing it, i respect your opinion so much. Keep up the good work!

Loved this trip down memory lane especially with your thoughts on this time of anime. This would make a nice little side series to do, anime through the ages. Would help new comers to the anime world as well :)
I love this type of content. Please do the other year top 10 anime roasting. I'm pretty sure most people enjoy watching your review/roast on the anime you watched.
it’s really nice to see some variety in genre in the earlier years of anime. if you do another video like this you should maybe give some recommendations based off the animes ranked. especially with the lower ranked ones maybe giving some other examples from other years that would have ranked higher!
i really enjoyed this kind retrospective take on tier list! the brief summary and personal thoughts you've given also took me down memory lane, and i'm learning more about some anime that i hadn't heard about in 2010. i think for the next video it'd be nice for a bonus honorable mention of series that's from xx year that didn't make it to top 10, but you personally found interesting
