- What a game GT2 was. It blew everyone away in the late 90's with its attention to detail. It's crazy if you think about it. Cars sounding different in a game when fitting different parts back in 1999? Such a classic, nostalgia inducing gem. Enjoy!
If you love Gran Turismo 2 and custom races I'd be happy to provide more. I'm planning to cover more PSX classics as well as newer games. Thanks for watching!

Sounds that were so good they reused them all the way until GT4… love it
Really thanks for commenting! Indeed, The only thing is they really toned them down for the next couple of games. They sound really raw in GT 2!
@@Nightmare_Gaming871 I noticed that there's misspelling in iddling it meant to be idling. Still play this game from time to time on the psp with the headset it awesome to listen to the engine notes on every car depending on the mood:)
they got in GTPSP, decompressed the audios for a little and then in gran turismo 5, they get completely reworked
The Dyson super suc was my favourite
That racing exhaust on the Supra brings back so many memories... of wheelspin in the first 3 gears 😂
It certainly does!
Absolutely! I completely agree with your assessment of GT 2 as being far ahead of its time including re: the use of extremely accurate sound, taking the time to capture every detail, even engine and exhaust tones and textures matching their state of modification and tuning precisely (such as those you've demonstrated in your much-appreciated video). I was so blown away back then and would preach GT 2's superiority and rich features to anyone interested in racing video games, expressing with words how it was much more than a "game" as we'd known them to that point and really was "The real driving simulator". It changed the standards of (most) serious racing games forever and in my humble opinion has never been bested. Oh how I miss Tourist Trophy, btw. Anyway, wonderful video!
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice comment! I agree with you. GT 2 has never been bested. Maybe it's nostalgia talking and not me but GT 2 nailed much more that its technical aspects. This game was pure elegance. The jazzy soundtrack, the minimalist aesthetic of the menu, the fact that it didn't just focus on race cars and that you could race in a car that maybe your family owned or a car that you could come across the street. And as far as sound design is concerned, that is what always bugged me about GT 3 and 4 even though a played them religiously as a teenager. Cars sounded soulless and lacked the proper punch. Attention to detail and pure class is what made GT 2 great in my opinion. When GT 2 came out, it came out swinging and it blew our minds away.
@@Nightmare_Gaming871 You're welcome & hey, your post deserved some high praise. Regarding your other comments: again, agreed, although I really enjoyed GT3 and 4 which sadly I never completed or even got halfway into. But yeah, Gt 2 really nailed it, just as you've stated. Thanks again for a cool post, Nightmare Gaming!
@@michaelkottler You're welcome!
This and Gt4 are my favorite Gran Turismos
GT2 is by far the game Iv played the most. I still have my psone and I still play this game. So many good memories from the early 2000s!
3000GT with the racing exhaust is basically a 4G63T swap
Taking into consideration how extremely compressed those sounds are and how simplistic the sound engine had to be at that time, yeah, GT2 did a great job. I particularly remember the RB26 engines sounding pretty spot on (well, as spot on as you could get under those limitations anyway). Obviously doesn't compare to modern game sounds like AC or Dirt Rally (or even NFS Pro Street which also sounded incredible), but we're talking about over 20 years of technological difference. Another thing worth pointing out is that the RUFs in that game do have that flat-6 "powerchord" going on, that very characteristic engine note. The only other game from that era that could do Porsche sounds properly was NFS Porsche Unleashed on PC and even that only sounded right in cockpit view.
That said, upgrades ruined almost every car sound in that game. Some became vacuum cleaners with racing exhaust, and some became full on alien spaceship sound effects. The best sound experience in that game IMO is driving either full stock, or at least with the stock exhaust.
I have noticed that GT2 has a lot less noticeable audio looping in the engine idles compared to GT4.
oh man those turbo sounds, they were so overkill but boy are they great!
Oh yeah!
Gt40 sounded incredible in GT2
My absolute favorite one was the Mustang Cobra.
should have done mazda demio
6:54 loved this sound
My favourite sound is the Chaser TRD Sport with the stock muffler. (Car you earn by doing the luxury sedans cup)
I'll check it out, cheers!
Racing exhaust ctr2 from bmw v12
GT2 is my favorite GT
my lovely game
GT-R R34 Racing...jesus-freakin-christ this is an absolute BANGER!
The sounds in the older GT games, some sounded really good and others really bad. Also, did you know that on some cars, the sound completely changes when you add a turbo, the EG or EK civic is a great exmaple
Thanks for your comment! Some may sound bad indeed, but the attention to detail and variety was out of this world back then! Cheers!
i kinda like the ek civic race exhaust sound on gt4
1:33 best sound for me
The CTR 2 Sport sounds fuckin mint
Ya, sounds were great in GT games...unfortunately, they only sounded good idling lol. Once you get on the revs, practically every car in GT sounds the same
Thanks so much for commenting! Yeah many cars do sound the same (especially Turbocharged cars) but i'm currently making a video showcasing the sound of different engine types, so i'd be happy to hear your thoughts when i publish it! Cheers!
Semi racing ctr2 into skyline r34
omg what in the hell is that racing exhaust of R34! OMG! absolutely awesome
Indeed! Beastly sound!
Mad how the cars had more enjoyable sounds than GT5 and GT6.
Indeed!
Oh the sound on the Viper
sounds like a v6 and a 4 cylinder
Amazing video....make for gran turismo 1
Still my favourite game of all time
It's in my top 5 for sure!
@@Nightmare_Gaming871 which one it's your top 1? :0
@@suppametal S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl!
I wish they used these sounds for gt4. Missed the turbo spool and blow off valve noises
Thank yo very much for comparing. Plz name of the track in the end of the clip - it's awesome.

Keep going
Sport exhaust ctr2 into WRX STI
Good drive.
Thanks man!
Lets just say this: while tuning 4 cylinder cars turns into V6
And some V6 cars turns into 4 cylinder
engine is only V8, V12 , W engine..... etc. u can distinguishes btw them not the exhaust, generally
Snake sound turbo
Using the exact same blow off sound effect for every throttle let off for every car is a bit much....
They've all got maxed out turbos which give that sound effect
