It's a nice little knife but when you mention the handle not being perfect it kind of changed my mind about getting one. I have the one with the black handle and the other one with the leather handle.
I’m a bit sour about it, that’s for sure. I looked at some of the other 100 series pro line bucks and they seemed to be good. At least it’s a minor cosmetic issue that doesn’t impact the performance overall
I just ordered the 117 pro from Midway USA. I've been looking for a new deer knife, and this hits that sweet spot between the 105 and the 119. I'll let you know if it has a better finish. I'm not concerned about the finish as it will only look new until fall.
@Gravy Train Outdoors I have a small rough area on the handle, too. Like a file slipped and gouged it. It's right where my middle finger hits. I still love the knife. 🤗🍻
@@sobxscooter8157 at the end of the day little things like that add character to a knife. I think that it’s easy to forget that these are tools that are meant to be used. I’m glad you like the knife.
@@gravytrainoutdoors If you set the 102, the 117 and the 119 next to each other, they kind of belong together. Like the 102 is the son, the 117 is the Dad and the 119 is the Grandfather. I'd like to get the 120, just to finish the set. Maybe by the end of the summer. Maybe. Have a Knife Day :)
@@gravytrainoutdoors I'm saving my money to get the normal 117. Looks like it will cost some where between 75 and 80 dollars. Not sure its worth the money. But I have to have one for my Buck collection :)
@@longrider42 it’s a great little knife. I would recommend getting one if it catches your eye. Ergonomically it’s really good and the clip point blade is very functional. Buck’s 420HC is a very good Steel as well. It gets overlooked with all the fancy steels out these days but it’s a solid performer that is easy to sharpen and very tough.
@@gravytrainoutdoors I have been collecting Buck knives on and off since 1984 or there about. Too date I have 7, six fixed blades including the 119, and by my computer is my 110 folding hunter. I missed buying the 117 a few years ago. I glad they are making it again. Looks like it will make a nice field knife and a good knife to have when fishing. Stay sharp :)
@@gravytrainoutdoors Okay, got my Buck 117 in the mail today. Had to buy it directly from Buck, and its a great looking little knife. Two marks on the blade, most likely from sharpening, but some steel wool cleans that up. I am very happy with this little knife. The sheath is nice but not marked 117, was your sheath marked? And I got the standard one.
Yeah I’ve notice some inconsistencies on my other knives but it’s been the edge angle and minor stuff like that. The lock up on my 110’s have been a bit inconsistent as well.
Good comparisons. I'm glad Buck has made the 117 part of their regular lineup this year.
I have not been a Buck fan for a while, but I really like this one. Great choice of handle and blade materials.
It’s a great little knife. Solid little hunting knife and all around belt knife

@@gravytrainoutdoors don't be a tart, knife looks great
The steel is different between the models too. Pro VS standard, etc.

No, the 102 Woodsman, is a tiny little knife :) But I still have a 102, and like it.
I would like to get a 102 one day. I really like the looks of that knife as well.

Hey, if it has flaws, you can always send it back to Buck. They do have the "Forever Warranty"
They have a great warranty! I’m not terribly concerned about it. Just not what I expected to see.

You'll want to dial 988 if you watch more than 2 minutes. Drier than a popcorn fart.
I have one of these knives and mine has none of the issues you discuss.
That’s good to hear!
Go for the Pathfinder 105 : I got both Brahma and 105 and Brahma is useless. I TOLD YA !
The pathfinder is definitely on my short list. The only reason I chose the Brahma over the pathfinder was that it seemed to be harder to get
@@gravytrainoutdoors yes : it was back order for some time. Now that I have both of them, my Brahma is for sale. I'LL keep the 105.
That's a good looking hunting knife. 👍
I hate to say this but that is what you expect from Buck. My 102 Pro has a recurved edge and was very uneven. Same with 124. My 120 was ground uneven.
