We are fortunate in our lifetime , to be witnessing such an extraordinary- musical phenomenon in our troubled , but, still beautiful world . The world has been blessed !
I understand exactly how you feel. I also can see an almost hint of gospel singer there. The emotion this child puts into every phrase and line is insane. How does a sweet innocent gentle child do this to music and how can she penetrate every persons heart who listens to her. She is genuinely the most unique performer we have seen this century, and she is still only a young teenager. What the future holds is mind boggling, for her and for us who can only listen and watch in awe.
Before this, Grace was a young teen prodigy; with breathtaking talent. Here, she suddenly becomes a woman, exploring her emotional and vocal depth. I have to say, I was a huge fan before; but this is where I really fell in love with her as an artist.
Most of Grace's dedicated fans are dedicated because Grace makes the tears flow easily when she sings songs like this. Many are watching your facial expressions at certain parts of the song that effected them, it only took you 3 seconds after she started to sing before you grimaced, expect you would have reacted more if you closed your eyes and just listened but then you would have missed the fact it's only a 13 year old singing
She truly has more soul at age 14 than most performers have grown up. I really enjoy your reactions ....I like the way you watch the entire video unlike some reactors who will take their eye from it and maybe miss an important part of the vid...you see the entire thing and can give a full reaction where others cannot.
What I love is that Grace didn't sing this song to further her career; she just heard it and wanted to sing it. No one was saying, er, no that's not your demographic. Grace does everything instinctually; that's why she won AGT.
Grace does this thing where she does accents of imitates other people's voices. She is quite good. I feel that some of the songs she sings, this one included, she is singing in someone else's voice, not her natural voice. She does it seamlessly and beautifully so it is hard to tell.
Okay...have watched a few of your reaction videos, and I just have to say that I really like how you pull no punches. You speak your mind, and could care less if someone does or does not agree with you. Bravo, keep up the awesome work, and can't wait for more reaction videos from you!
You got the right feel from her performance. She is religious and sings at her church regularly. Loves choirs too. And get this, she once wanted to be a minister.
Just got around to listening to the original(quite by accident, it was playing at the end of a Big Little Lies episode) and Grace's version is so much more gritty and passionate. It really is better. At 13. Phenomenal.
Gritty and passionate - Yes! Stripped down to the barest instrumentals; acoustic guitar, and her percussionist allowed only a tambourine. This lays the song open to her pure voice, her unfathomable emotional instrument.
Grace is heard best in these intimate venues, because then we can hear all the nuances of her voice and style. Several people have been requesting "Darkness Keeps Chasing Me," undoubtedly the most dramatic song she's ever written--and one of the most dramatic ever written, period. They've suggested a couple of fine live performances. But, although the fact that they're live performances makes them more interesting, I still prefer the studio recording as the definitive rendition. Anyway, whichever you choose, it will be a goosebump experience for you and your viewers.
lek844 I like the studio version but the rooftop MTV video is, for me, way better. The acoustics are perfect, Grace sings with such emotion in this rendition. It’s truly mesmerizing. It brings tears to my eyes.
Congrats! And welcome to the Fanderwaals club! I can only tell you that the more you listen to Grace, the more you slip into the rabbit hole of wanting more and more. If you like her live performances, you should react to the acoustic live version of 'Darkness Keeps Chasing Me'
All very good points by you during the video. She infuses such emotion throughout her performances that you get drawn in, and the image of her preaching the feelings behind the lyrics is understandable. I think you'd best be served reacting to "Darkness Keeps Chasing Me". The best performance available so far was during the NPR Tiny Desk concert, but you wouldn't go wrong using the MTV Rooftop concert performance either. You won't be disappointed. Keep up the great work!
I've seem mentions of Darkness Keeps Chasing Me, a song that is especially haunting when you think about a young lady with an old soul writing it. Looking forward to your reaction if you will.
It's hard for me to imagine how great she could be because of how great she already is. At age 14, 20 or 30 doesn't make a difference to me, she is simply a special artist that comes around once or maybe twice in a lifetime. I think this is one of the best covers ever done, and she has done some very amazing ones. I read a lot about DKCM and wanting you to react to that, and I agree, but for my money, her Beautiful Thing is all time masterpiece. Written and recorded at 12 years old for her sister, will only ad to the legacy of that song. I would suggest you react to that so you can understand just how beautiful her voice is! Whatever you decide, I'll be watching 🤓
GRACES 'MUSIC FOR THE MOST PART IS INTENSELY PERSONAL YET TO ME ALSO UNIVERSAL. NOT A LOT OF POP SINGERS DON'T EFFECT ME THAT WAY. HER ARROWS ARE SHARP YET SHE IS KIND TO HER LISTENERS. THOSE TWO SONGS,, CITY SONG AND RIVER ILLUSTRATE THE RANGE OF HONEST EMOTIONS SHE SHARES. IF SHE WERE TO PREACH SHE WOULD END WITH WAKE UP PEOPLE.........THANK YOU FOR YOUR REACTION, QUEEN. OLD PETER U S A
You are so right to focus on how passionate she is. Grace seems to have a huge capacity for empathy. We see this in her singing & writing & acting, and in personal moments as when she comforts a fan sharing her experience of being bullied, or when she holds the mother of a child receiving her first hearing aid (ruclips.net/video/DUbWiOf2TtY/видео.html ).
Waal also means -as far as I know- "wallow", so it's where the pigs take their mud-bath, so probably her ancestors were farmers or something this way. But nevermind, who cares... fact is that her dad Dave is dutchman
Amazing singer song writer and truly one of a kind. I think she was just thirteen when she performed this. She has an ability to deliver the meaning and all of its emotion directly into your heart in a simple but very profound way. thanks for your platform and reaction. if you get time to check it out ruclips.net/video/LjyquiQWF2M/видео.html
She is good but she doesn't move me like Jackie Evancho does. The reason beong is that the high notes that Jackie can hit , lifts your soul to a higher state. Jackie's range is and has been extraordinary since she appeared on AGT 8 years ago. It is the one hing that IGrace lacks. Other then that she is good.
Marcin Manecki Grace happens to be in the more popular genre then Jackie is. Not many people listen to classical crossover music. But as far as voices go, Jackie can out sing Grace any day of the week. Jackie has gotten better, her voice has matured so she doesn't sound the same as she did when she was younger.. Same thing will to happen to Grace also. I'm not knocking Grace, she is very talented but Jackie's voice is light years ahead of Grace. Anybody can sing pop music but very few can do what Jackie can do with her voice.
Greg Cadman So every Soprano for the past 500 years are justt showing off when they sing ? It" s not about showing off but giving fans what they want to hear. It is the high notes that brings the tears and goosebumps in music, especially in the Italian arias which have the highest listen counts in the history of recorded music. A perfect example why this is comes from the movie shawshank redemption. Watch this clip. ruclips.net/video/CMIFL4-d5DA/видео.html
I don't see the need to compare the two of them. I like them both besides the reside in two entirely different music areas. One sings, writes the lyrics and writes the music while the other sings mostly classical crossover. There is no need to compare just enjoy.
If you could, please review Graces song Darkness Keeps Chasing Me. Here's a link to the Live MTV Rooftop Version ruclips.net/video/LjyquiQWF2M/видео.html
QotN , you pick some of odd performances to react to! This is far and away the least impressive of the vids available of Grace singing "River" (call it an off day). Also she has numerous songs of her own WAY BETTER than this cover (good as the song is, and it is). Just saying ..
Respectfully disagree. Yes, the interaction with the crowd is missing from this one. But the rendition is flawless, and I take good camerawork exposing her facial expressions and heartfelt emotions over blurry phone-clips and crackling overloaded mics any day.
We are fortunate in our lifetime , to be witnessing such an extraordinary- musical phenomenon in our troubled , but, still beautiful world . The world has been blessed !

She just became the push artist of the year

so true

But Grace is apparently pretty religious; so I think this is heartfelt for her.
Good honest review.....her talent is impressive...She is her own unique person.
Grace Vanderwaal Rocks!!!💜💜💜
Grace doesn't do a simple Cover, she "Owns It".
This makes me want to cry when I hear it
She was four-teen that time. I love her!
A bit more impressive: the original MTV video was published on RUclips Dec 15, 2107. So Grace was 13, a month away from her 14th birthday.
Okay...have watched a few of your reaction videos, and I just have to say that I really like how you pull no punches. You speak your mind, and could care less if someone does or does not agree with you. Bravo, keep up the awesome work, and can't wait for more reaction videos from you!
Her voice sounds at first like it's shredded, but she does such beautiful things with it.
You got the right feel from her performance. She is religious and sings at her church regularly. Loves choirs too. And get this, she once wanted to be a minister.
Oh, no, not again!
BTW, R didn´t tell me about the minister.
love your reactions and love grace. she is amazing

Grace sang a cover of Shawn Mendes's "It isn't in my blood" on Elvis Duran. If you get around to it defiantly worth a reaction.
Defiantly?

The PNT Tv Network ya it’s outstanding.
Love to hear your reaction to Grace's cover of Shawn Mendes "It's In My Blood", but listen to his version first.

yep.
second that!
I prefer the MTV rooftop version. But I agree you can't go wrong with any of her live performances of DKCM.
I've seem mentions of Darkness Keeps Chasing Me, a song that is especially haunting when you think about a young lady with an old soul writing it. Looking forward to your reaction if you will.
If I had a spirit animal it would be Grace.
Shawn Mendes has said Grace is going to be "really, really big" some day. This is Grace at 13. By the time she's 19 she is going to prove him right.
It's hard for me to imagine how great she could be because of how great she already is. yes, BT is her masterpiece. Do u know the Windex vid?
WIKDEZOEP Beautiful Thing is in my opinion still her masterpiece! Though I think this is one of the best covers of all time.

Nice voice, she must have her ancestry from the Netherlands because in Dutch her name will be van der Waal. The Waal is River in Netherland
Waal also means -as far as I know- "wallow", so it's where the pigs take their mud-bath, so probably her ancestors were farmers or something this way. But nevermind, who cares... fact is that her dad Dave is dutchman
She reminds me of Sandra van Newland, she was losing the final of the voice of Holland a vew years ago

react to darkness keeps chasing me- Grace VanderWaal

What is it with this fascination with high notes, most who do this are showing off not going to the soul of the music, Grace has soul in spades
Marcin Manecki Grace happens to be in the more popular genre then Jackie is. Not many people listen to classical crossover music. Not all music requires it does not fit here, Grace can pull a high note if she wishes but not here.
I don't see the need to compare the two of them. I like them both besides the reside in two entirely different music areas. One sings, writes the lyrics and writes the music while the other sings mostly classical crossover. There is no need to compare just enjoy.
