In trash candy, Dazai's expression changes as well, although it looks more as if he was on guard or just reacting out of a stupor, 'what am I doing' or 'shit, I left the stove on!' But in this animation, it's more like instant, clear regret and fear. Whether it's of pain or anything else. There's this scene in wan where Dazai almost dies of drowning, and he immediately gets up to avoid it, 'I almost died there'. Dazai is most likely searching a reason to die by being near death, as if, he'll get a reason before doing it: ''I'm going to kill myself, but then I'd have to leave Atsushi alone, so I can't.'' or anything of the like. But if he throws himself from a building, there's no take backs. He'll just fall to his dead and regret everything at the last moment because he truly did not want to die, he wanted a reason to live.
I absolutely love this analysis, especially because of its prevalence in real life. I also, personally and for reasons I choose not to disclose, have felt those same levels of regret and fear for similar reasons. So many people see or hear about BSD Dazai and the silly way he’s shown for a good chunk of time and decide “yeah, I kin him” but don’t truly take into account the dark aspects of his personality or how the IRL Dazai processed the world, I truly didn’t understand what was wrong with my mental state until I stumbled across “No Longer Human” and that interest became an obsession with the real man, rapidly leading me to BSD. The only reason I have yet to “fulfill my final dream” (so to speak) is because I haven’t properly analyzed myself from an outsiders perspective the way both IRL and BSD Dazai Osamu has. It’s a twisted comfort to me when I find people like you that truly know how to properly analyze the way a mind like mine and Dazai’s. So, thank you for that, and I apologize for the rambling (:

No matter how many videos of yours I watch, each time I’m awed at how well and accurately you portray characters through the use of music and editing. Each edit tells such a riveting story and yet somehow leads to the same sad ending, yet I can’t help but feel excited and exhilarated when the tone changes and the story becomes much darker, even though it’s predictable, it’s just so well done I can’t help but feel caged by my own interest. You won’t shy away from some very harsh subjects and imagery and it’s striking, it’s amazing, the distortion of your editing helps bring everything together! It’s absolutely fantastic man! In my opinion, every hours you spent working on this was worth the end result, because it’s just that good!
