- This 60 minute film follows The Mission through the second half of 1989. It shows them recording their album "Carved in Sand", touring Scotland and headlining the Reading Festival. This is not a documentary - it shows a modern rock band at work in a unique way. There is over 35 minutes of the band's music in the soundtrack, some of it unique to this film.
I still have a pirate VHS of this; years later I bought the ‘Waves upon the sand’ / ‘Crusade’ DVD
I remember buying this on VHS the day of release and played it to death - lost it over the years, thank you so much for this - precious and happy memories x
Likewise. One of my favourite memories was seeing them at Barrowlands on this tour which was just..... nuts.... a great live act.
I once had this on vhs once too, what a blast from the past!
Such a great band! So much better than many bands at that time. Music still relevant
Watched this again tonight for about the 50th time and it was especially sweet having flown out from Southern California to see them last month in Manchester at the Ritz and then two nights later at the Roundhouse in London to finish off their Deja Vu 2023 tour......Been a fan since the very beginning.....will to the very end...
Wow!!! Thank you for sharing!!! Treasure!
I saw them at the Sheffield Shindig in 89. I was fortunate enough to meet Wayne before the gig. I would love to see more footage of that occasion. Great times. Thanks for uploading 👍🏻
Nice to see myself and the wife there again, at Jacobs Studios during the recording of Carved In Sand album and the Scottish highlands tour
Used to own this on VHS, haven't seen it in about 26 years. Great upload.
Yeah same, I can't have seen it for 25 years and I knew every word of it!
My fave band. Met them in Canada one week after Simon left... Got my bass signed by Craig, Mick, Wayne, and Red Lorry Yellow Lorry guitarist Wolfie, plus The Wonderstuff "Hup" era!!!!!
One on the best bands to come out of the UK after those 4 scousers in the 60s. Effin love this had it on VHS back in the day. Time for a DVD release 💜
this takes me back to 1989 when my belief in The Mission started
The music at the start should be our National Anthem,' i vow to thee our Country'
Thanks very, very much to gothslave2006, I 've got that masterpiece on VHS Cassette, but no recorder anymore...
Good memories of an outstanding Band!!!!!
Youre welcome 👍🏻
Absolutely beautiful
I saw them in 89 hollywood palladium, the in 90 gathering of the tribes put on by Ian Astabery costa mese pacific ampa theater. . they are the best show I have ever seen live, maybe it was the prime of my life, either way it was there then for a reason..
They still deliver the goods live, in spade loads. Saw them on tour last year several times, just as good, possibly better than they were in the early 90s.
Valeu pela postagem, esse é um filme raro. Eu mesmo que acompanho a Banda desde 1986 ainda não tinha visto. Muito Obrigado. Showwwwww
O The Mission é a minha Banda de Rock Preferida. Não é uma Banda de um sucesso só. Wayne Hussey continua em forma. eles passaram pelo Rio de Janeiro no Teatro Odisseia e mostraram como se faz rock de verdade. Over This Land, All Over This Wasteland........ ...
Beautiful
Carved in my Soul
This is great I got this on tape
I have this on VHS love it still do
Sounds great!
Thank you
Thanks!
Is a complete video of the Reading Festival gig available?
Pity the opening song 'Beyond The Pale' has been cut so hard here.
Excelente!
love it , have it on vhs tape

I've always loved this film. I wonder what happened to all those photographs you see of the band larking around? Perhaps a limited edition Mission photo book is in order?
10:17 Physical Graffiti reference. Led Zep - ace!
Thank you very much for this rare material! But is there subtitres in English?
I´m afraid not, sorry
para cuando en español!!!!!
Alguien que se cope y le ponga subtitulos en español,loco!!!
The Mission UK is interesting because they seem to have a folk style foundation. Essentially it is like Wayne Hussey on acoustic guitar singing his poetry with a band. I feel it lacks a bit of melodies though.
Can someone tell me the name of the song in the beginning that plays?
That's the end of the Dam Busters March. True story. Watch the film :-) ruclips.net/video/r7Si2H479Es/видео.html
Still gets played at the start of most of their gigs, at least the British ones.
The Mish often went on stage to the Dambusters march, but this piece (which I think they still use from time to time) is from Holst’s Planets suite. It’s a section from ‘Jupiter’.
Its the song 'i vow to thee our Country' Google it, its a great Hymn written by Holst
Aye, a few years after Holst wrote Jupiter, he adapted part of it to a hymn with words by Cecil Rice. You can find the instrumental version here at 3 minutes in: ruclips.net/video/Gu77Vtja30c/видео.html
