To be fair, you've got the fact that Trump may have been paid a substantial amount of money and Vince didn't wanna spend as much on Bobby. I'd say 250k for a night's work is more than great. Granted, I agree that executives getting 250k for barely doing shit is overkill.

    • @Matt-cr4vv
      @Matt-cr4vv Год назад

Whenever JR says they’re naive it isn’t fully focused on the fact that they want to be paid more money. They’re called naive because when they complain about whatever amount they got paid they rarely have an argument to back up why the amount they made wasn’t enough. JR has spoken many times about times where someone had an issue with what they made but they made a case for why they contributed to the shows performance and why that warranted more money and that he’d often times end up paying them more when they make that case.
There’s a difference if you come in as a talent and point to things you did and point to various measureable metrics that resulted from what you did and why that deserves more money versus challenging the amount you were paid and not having any reason to justify why you weren’t paid enough. If you come in upset about what you made but don’t have any business measurables to make a case for why you should’ve made more than that is naive and clearly not based on any metric but rather just thinking that you should’ve made more because you wanted to get paid more or somebody told you that you should’ve made more and is going to naturally be seen as naive. Many talents have spoken about times they disagreed with what they were paid, took it to JR and made a business case for why they deserve more, and that there were lots of times he’d agree with the argument they made and get them some more money. But an executive getting it may seem bad but take a Trump if he didn’t like whatever he was paid. He’d be able to point to the business records they did and that his role directly contributed to this revenues to clearly see why he deserved the amount he wanted.
Bobby wasn’t labeled naive because he wanted to be paid more. He was labeled naive because he was upset and saying he hadn’t been paid enough but didn’t have any rationale to back up his argument that he wasn’t paid enough. There’s s clear difference between saying hou shouldve made more just because you wanted more versus saying you should’ve made more and having business metrics you can point to to verify your claim. He was a guy who didn’t know the business and just thought he should make more because he wanted more. Not gonna be an argument you’ll win often.

He was pulling in a million that year, so a quarter of a million compared to where he was BACK THEN was good. This is in the era, well a few years later, that Jarrett was paid around $150k when he wasn't under contract to come back in and drop the belt to Chyna, and that was considered exorbitant and he was holding it hostage for money. He came back a WHOLE lot better than when he left because of the experience he gained, like Cody Rhodes did. Plus payments across the board went up in 10 years.

250K was not for one day's work. There were weeks and months of buildup into that match, and Lashley's work over the year to get over enough to be in that match.
So it's not 250K for "one day's pay" that is an oversimplification on the matter.

@@davidgraham8299 WWE superstars are significantly underpaid. Quite frankly, I am shocked when I see the networth for some of these guys.
An example being Randy Orton. He has a reported networth of 11 million dollars in 2021.
The guy won his first world title in 2004 and has been a significant player in WWE ever since then... Yet he has been paid out less than 1M a year. According to his networth he has been paid around 500K a year since he's been in WWE!!!.... Now yes, I imagine he has spent a significant amount of money in that time... But even if you add 50% to his worth, he'd still only be at around 1M per year that he's been in WWE.
Yes... Lashley was paid during the buildup, but it wouldn't have been anything to go home about. That 250K + tv payouts is a joke considering his place on the WM23 card.

One thing I would say is that Lashley wasn't important to what that match was. In the case of Hogan vs. Warrior, they were both drawing to make that as grandiose as it was. People wanted to see these 2 over the top characters battle it out. Whereas, the draws for that match were Vince, Trump, and Steve Austin as the guest referee.
Bobby and Umaga were interchangeable. You could've had Chris Masters, John Morrison, Finlay, JBL, William Regal, Snitsky, Shane Helms or almost any other competent worker to do that match. The match itself could've been anything from a 6 man tag to a cage match with both the ECW and IC belts on the line and it really wouldn't have mattered. The attraction of the match was that either Trump or Vince would get their head shaved and Stone Cold hitting some stunners.
If it's simply an argument of fairness, how much did all the guys in the Money in the Bank ladder match make? Sure, that match wasn't the massive attraction the Hair vs Hair match was, but those guys took a beating and worked almost twice as long as Bobby and Umaga did. Did they even make as much as Bobby? Bobby's match was pretty light with a lot of running around and shenanigans. The 8 guys in the MITB match left chunks of their career in that ring.

Ross is being slightly bias here. You cant tell talent what they are worth. The only reason for discretion in pay is because pay is selective. Everyone has the right to get paid what they deserve it's no questioning how or why lashley felt he was under paid. If lashley says he wasnt paid enough then you either pay him or not. He doesnt have to accept any deal he doesnt feel isnt paying him enough.

People should be paid what they deserve. But there’s a difference when you say you weren’t paid enough and it’s just because you think it should be more versus actually pointing to numbers as to why you deserved more. If you’re worth more you should be able to make a sound case to state why you’re worth more. If you can’t make that argument then it isn’t an issue of whether you got paid what you deserved but just you aren’t happy because you wanted to make more but don’t have any reason to back that besides you want more money. And as a result he left. And that’s his call and things ended up working out. But JR is being biased because he knows the role because he did it for years. There are many times people have said they debated their pay to Jim and when they made sound arguments grounded in business results for why they deserved more that many times he got them more. But he’s not going o go find you more simply because you think you should get more just because.

The part Jim Ross is ignoring is

    2. Going "well 250k is a lot" doesn't mean much if Lashley can get paid that much or more elsewhere without traveling 300 days a year.
Lashleys gotta look after himself. If he can make as much money (or slightly less but for a lot less work) outside of WWE, why would he stay? Loyalty? To the guy who underpays him?
Same thing happened at Wrestlemania 18. Chris Jericho got paid less than 1/10th what Triple H got paid and threw a hissy fit until WWE paid him more.

I totally disagree with Lashley. He was green as hell, not good on the mic, somewhat solid in the ring. He was put on the map forever thanks to that match, but he wasn't selling it.
Him and Umaga (RIP) were in that match to play second fiddle in the foreground for the real show that was going on in the background (Trump, Vince). They easily could've been replaced by different guys like MVP, Orton, Edge, etc. who would benefit greatly from the spot and would utilize it much better than Lashley.
WM 23 was sold on Trump, Vince, Austin, Cena, Michaels, Taker and Batista. And in that order too. Lashley had a very inflated sense of his own worth on that card.
You know, if Avengers make 3 billion dollars, it doesn't mean Robert Downey Jr. and Renee Russo should make a similar amount. One is essential to the movie's success, the other doesn't affect it at all.

No the question is how much did cena make. If cena got paid the same thing fair is fair. No merchandise sales, just for the match it self. But you know what Jr not going to give those numbers that’s why he cleared himself in the beginning by saying he doesn’t discuss that. Who have to balls ask the tough questions. I call bs

I like Bobby Lashley, but I cant tell if this was fair or not. I wasn't a fan of how he was used recently anyway. So he gets 250k in 1 day, and leaves?? That's actually a win. WWE doesn't have a solid plan for him.

This is JR's corporate stooge side coming out. Yeah, $250k for one night's work is a lot of money. Do you think Stone Cold would take that payoff at a Wrestlemania that did over one million PPV buys? Doubtful.
The headliners of Wrestlemania 19 all made $300k for their match (Lesnar-Angle, Austin-Rock, Hogan-Vince, HHH-Booker) and the event did less than half the PPV buys of WM23. So Bobby got less than they did for a lesser grossing PPV 4 years earlier. He got ripped off.

A quarter million for a WM match?! How dare you?! I would've demanded 800 trillion because that's how much Umaga got. HAHAHAHAHAHAA!!! Lashley could barely do a fuckin promo then, who the fuck did he think he is?! Not sure what's wrong with a quarter million...

Conrad I love your show I think you showed great at the end of the day these guys are working in a factory with a ring there are no crowds and they're just doing it for the paycheck I don't think the love of wrestling is in their mind right now just for the nice paycheck that they give them and Vince McMahon always pays well those who sacrifice for him at the end the business that we know that's wrestling now is garbage because this is an wrestling this is just a company trying to live off starvation because they're not making any really old Manny only through the the networks if they can go back to live events that could probably make something but with this coronavirus you have 200 million workers out of jobs they basically turned on so the children don't go crazy but the majority of the fans and young adults and a lot of people don't really care about wrestling not the way they cared about wrestling in the 90s or in the 2000 coronavirus is the real problem right now and companies like Japan have live event with crowds so I don't see why the US are nalo in them too let's get one thing straight Japan Korea Hong Kong their economy has not stopped our economy has stopped their culture is different and they listen to rules keep up the great work I love this show but WWE now is garbage
