    Locke's flashbacks are like watching someone who's already been beaten to the ground then get kicked repeatedly in the stomach.

    "Why do you find it so hard to believe?" "Why do you find it so easy?" "IT'S NEVER BEEN EASY!" Maaaaan, Terry O Quinn (Locke) and Matthew Fox (Jack) are just so good together! That whole scene is honestly one of my fav moments in the whole show. Great reaction to a great episode!

    My read on Jack's reaction to Desmond is that he's letting himself acknowledge for the first time that this is really Desmond -- who in their previous encounter changed his life so profoundly when he was in his darkest hour by simply suggesting that he try to save her -- and that this cannot possibly be a mere coincidence now, meeting this man a second time. He puts the gun down, goes back inside, allows Locke to finally convince him to push the button.

    I love that you remembered the compass Locke gave to Sayid that was "broken". Another interesting moment to remember is when Locke and Boone found the hatch, Boone wanted to go back to camp but Locke wanted to continue and said "can't you feel this?", he was feeling in his inside the electromagnetism coming from below.

    Remember back in S1, Locke was talking to that woman on the phone, and he was calling her 'Helen?' I've always assumed that wasn't her real name, that he asked her to use that name with him.

    • @astragalusson
      @astragalusson 5 месяцев назад +1

      It's possible. However, I assumed he especially choose a woman named Helen from a list of sex call operators or maybe ads.

      Don’t forget that the scene with him speaking to the sex worker, is AFTER his injury. And after his relationship with Helen. ;) You are correct in that he asked her to allow him to call her Helen. Remembrance of his past relationship with the real Helen.

    This is the first time I've ever seen anyone discuss whether or not Helen's 'leap of faith' method is the best way to go. Really enjoyed your deliberations on it. With some addictions (such as alcohol) it's vital to slowly reduce, but going cold turkey may be more effective with other addictions.
    I don't think John would have been able to slowly reduce his night time 'stalking' visits...dragging the pain out would have only increased its intensity. Imo, Helen did the right thing.

    If I had been Jack, I would never have pushed the button. It's one thing to have faith, it's another to ask, even almost force, a person who doesn't share it to follow it. If Locke wants to push the button, let him do it, or find a new Boone to do it.

    • @letsrock1729
      @letsrock1729 5 месяцев назад +2

      I agree in principle, but I feel that Locke was only trying to help Jack here, in the same way that he helped Charlie with the drugs or Boone with his unhealthy Shannon obsession.
      None of his methods have been very orthodox (to say the least!) but, as we saw with Charlie and Boone, these methods got the job done.
      Locke believes that they are all there for a reason and is trying to help Jack to open his mind to things he doesn't understand (good luck, Locke 😉).

    • @youtpfpm6097
      @youtpfpm6097 5 месяцев назад

      @@letsrock1729 It's weird that it's the more obsessed of the two who thinks he should help the less obsessed. Locke can believe what he wants and let others believe what they want. But this is apparently impossible for him.

    • @letsrock1729
      @letsrock1729 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@youtpfpm6097 Well, I don't know about that 😉 Jack has an equally obsessive nature (the two of them are like peas in a pod!), but just about different things.

    • @youtpfpm6097
      @youtpfpm6097 5 месяцев назад

      @@letsrock1729 For the hatch, and therefore the button, Locke is much more obsessed. Who decided to keep the secret, even at the cost of Boone's "sacrifice"? Who decides to go down to the hatch after having said he would wait? It's Locke, not Jack. So to push the button, Locke could very well have done it himself, as Jack says. No need to put pressure on him. That of Locke's finger is sufficient. 😂

    • @letsrock1729
      @letsrock1729 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@youtpfpm6097 Oh yes, Locke is obviously the most obsessed about the hatch 😁 (Jack's obsessions play out elsewhere.)
      But I still believe that, despite Locke's hatch obsession, he was trying to help Jack take a leap of faith, just as Helen had once helped him to do this (and he hadn't wanted to either). Locke believes that taking a leap of faith will help to 'heal' Jack in some way...and I have to say that I think he's right .

      @elodie2404 5 месяцев назад

      @@jlilley73 Oh yes ! Thank you to remind me where we're at in the story... Only one episode a week is definitely not enough... So, I guess Locke could easily use his high frequency whistle, to call Vince and then it would have been back... But I bet Shannon does not want to ask to John Locke to use it because she considers Locke as the one who killed Boone
      And Locke could not see Vince was missing as he is part of the people who decided to live in the cave while Shannon wanted to stay on the beach (which is not very clever as if I was her, I would go where the doctor is, and especially if I have a severe asthma)

      Watching Buffy required a decent amount of "I understand that this character is acting this way because it's necessary for the episode/season, and I will try not to hold it against them".
      LOST requires it too, but not quite as much, imo.

    I think this chapter has a serious error, if not, someone correct me.
    In chapter 1x4, Lockhe was already in a wheelchair and was only a client of Helen's, however in this chapter it is before he was in a wheelchair, and he is already with Helen?

    • @pretentiousn3rd
      @pretentiousn3rd 5 месяцев назад +20

      The woman Locke spoke to in 1x4 is a sex photo worker who's name isn't actually Helen, but John calls her Helen cause clearly John and the Helen he meets in this episode break up sometime in the future (cause we see he's alone in Walkabout) and so John starts calling a sex phone worker and calls her Helen. I hope this explanation clears that up
