Why doesn't this rule apply to suits, where the jacket is roughly 50/50 in proportion to the trousers? A cropped suit would look terrible. Don't take my word for it, there are pictures online. BTW; the reason almost all t-shirts and button-ups are too long, is because they are designed to be tucked. Many t-shirts are much shorter these days tho, so things are shifting... slowly.

The thing I hate about cropped shirts is that for men, cropped means the shirt ends around your belt line rather your crotch, but for women, cropped means “SHOW YOUR STOMACH RIGHT NOW’ which I absolutely hate.

Other than intentionally buying cropped or having pieces hemmed, may I also suggest the French tuck as a solid temporary option to alter the proportions of a top that normally fits longer.

I’ve felt like my shirts are too long and started tucking them in for that reason. The symmetry looks nice and you can show off a belt. Also sweaters with elastic at the bottom can help to keep them in that cropped area that looks good
