    Professor Oh! Wonderful! Your lessons and KWOW are a joyful respite from dreary, but effective, Rosetta Stone! Learning Korean is tough despite King Sejong's optimism that a smart person could learn Hangul in seven days. How about some traditional Korean cultural words like hanok (I love them), hanbok (very beautiful), and gat (cool hat) in recognition of King Sejong's gift of Hangul? Thanks!

    Can I ask why is English taught in Korea done so with US spelling, while every other country learns with non-US spelling.
    I had never really thought of this until I saw this video using the word colour spelt without a 'u', which is common place in USA spellings of English.
    I think it may be just because most English teachers in South Korea are US American, while in most other countries they are English or local people who attended English universities. It may also be due to South Korea's trusteeship under USA.

    • @dersandmann2826
      @dersandmann2826 6 лет назад +2

      I am from Germany and I have to learn both, the US American and the British way. It depends on the student, which variant one uses. So I don't think it's because of the trusteeship.

    • @frisenic

      Color can be spelled with or without the use of “U” it’s just the same thing

    • @foranzo1582
      @foranzo1582 5 лет назад

      I know this comment is old af but u-dropping is an American thing. However, 'color' and 'colour' are the same thing, it's just the cosmetics here c:

  • @FullCircleStories

    You've given us a pretty decent vocabulary, especially for beginners (like me). I think perhaps it'd be really useful to give 1 or 2 basic sentences, to use all the words we've learnt, and then change one specific part with other words we can use. I have a feeling this'll mean we need some more words, but i also have a feeling everyone will be quite happy with that too!
    I've been looking around at some places i can start learning korean and i've been having a blast here! Can't wait for more!

    Might be a silly question, but are the word variants of each color interchangeable, or are there situations where one would be used over the others? Like black, for example; is there a time where I would use "gum-jung-sek" instead of the other two variants? Are these regional dialects? EDIT: nvm, posted before the part where you say it's a matter of preference. Still, did the variants stem from regional dialects? Just out of curiosity.

    @AmeniOV Everyone, FYI, Wikipedia is THE place to start for any major language. :) Before I seriously began learning Japanese, I had a feel for some grammatical concepts from wikipedia. You will also get basics on pronouns, verbs, etc & whatever. START on wikipedia at least briefly as an intro; then move to lessons like this for the human touch & better explanations.
    wikipedia article: Korean_grammar. Go! :)
    Wikipedia can also be great for learning basic pronunciation and reading/writing.

    Can I know why on the word "녹색" the first g sound is pronounced as a k sound? I don't understand?? I understand that when there's a vowel before a consonant, the sound changes. That's why in "초록색" the L sound is pronounced as a r sound.

    I don't know how it works in Korean, but in my two languages there is a word that can only be properly used, in one language, as a modifier paired with what it is describing. However, its equivalent in the other language is frequently used by itself and could be labeled a noun. (Note that languages are non-isomorphic.) Does that help?
