I don’t know what’s more difficult to process, either how is this movie still underrated or how Jack Black actually got permission from Led Zeppelin to use this song.
Imagine your kids are kidnapped by an imposter substitute teacher and he drives them around town all in a van with no seatbelts. School of Rock could have been a whole different kind of movie.
On the DVD commentary they discuss how the script was initially darker, and pick apart how unsympathetic and self-centered Dewey's character actually is.
And THIS is precisely why if you are in the music industry you should be cool and let people use your stuff for film or projects. Before this movie I didn't even know about Zeppelin. I grew up in the 2000s and was born in the early 90s so my time was past Zep. This ONE movie introduced me to so much I had never heard of. Be cool and let people use your music folks. I'm still rocking to this day.
You can really tell when the actors are seriously having fun. He wasn't sure they'd get the Zepplin song since Zepplin's pretty protective of their music.
I loved the extras on the DVD where it showed they made a short video begging Zepplin to let them use the song in the film as back then Zepplin were notorious for not letting the music be used in films etc. Just so glad they agreed as this is just a brilliant scene 😎
the reason why this is jack black's greatest movie is because he was in his element, he practically didn't even act in this movie, he was just being himself
If there's ever some godly being compiling the greatest movies made by humanity it needs to include School of Rock. It's such a pure, beautiful, and fun movie.
Ah-ah-ahhhhh, ahhhhhhhhhh! Ah-ah-ahhhhh, AHHHHHHHHHH!!! We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow! Hammer of the gods...
Normies: Thor 3 Intellectuals: Sherk 3 Gods: school of rock edit from a whole year later: holy shit 1.3k likes, also I said Sherk instead of Shrek on purpose, if it was an accident I would've corrected it by now, so y'all can shut the fuck up about it now
Jack Black's love for "The Gods Of Led Zeppelin" is endless. When he did "The Kennedy Honors" for Led Zeppelin I coul tell he is a devoted Rock' Roll head. I love it!!!
"Summer, you get an A+ and FIFTY GOLD STARS!" "I didn't do it for the grade." That line has stuck with me for 20 years. This girl who probably measured everything by success, grades, and praise just grew up. She found something bigger than herself. That's something she'd never have learned without all of this.
I read "20 years ago" and i looked it up.....i just....how...why....why....just, stop time, stop going by so fast, oh my god, i feel so much older, ahhh
Thank whoever needs to thanked that at least *_some_* kids are getting some access to the gold that was in the hills of *British Rock* back in the day!

I remember doing the same thing with a few kids and they looked at me like wtf are you talking!! >Music Theory< Naming off all the old rock bands and musicians from the 90's, 80's, 70's and 60's! Lol Jack Black is so me that's why I would want to meet him plus I love playing the electric guitar also! Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Black Sabbath, The Who, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Motorhead, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Queen, Quiet Riot, Dokken, Van Halen, AC/DC etc. Cause they don't listen to rock or heavy metal!!
I'm 15 and this movie came out 2 years before i was born 💜💜 But then on the day that Kevin died i felt like singing butterfly fly away from Hannah Montana the movie, R.I.P. Kevin Clark "aka" Freddy Jones
Got lead zeppelin themselves to say ya that's cool...dude put the shades on and preach the awesomeness of rock/metal (I know they don't like labels but they made some pretty metal stuff!) 😎
When you realize that School of Rock is the sequel of Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny "You will form a strong alliance and the world's most awesome band." -James Dio, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny before JB run away from his parents
Here's Black on how he got Zep to say yes to the Immigrant song: Jack; “I begged them on video with a huge audience of extras in the movie theatre that we were shooting in, and they all chanted with me: ‘Led Zeppelin, please bless us with your love!’ I don’t remember what I said, it was ridiculous and off the top of my head, and he sent it over there to them to England, and it worked. “They were like, ‘Oh, that’s funny. That’s funny, mate. Yeah, we’ll let him use the song’
The way jables sings the immigrant song by led zepplin, Which the *first* part facing *right* at the students, 🎶"ah-ah-aaaaah-AAAH! Ah-ah-aaaaah-AAAaah! We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow. Hamner of the gods."🎶 As that song I discovered is a hard rock & *viking metal* song, which was an *underground* metal subgenre during the 1970's, along with glam metal, doom metal, *and* speed metal. I kind of died from 0:16 to 0:24 anyway.😂
By far the best version of aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh aaahh aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh ahhh out there when I think of this song I think of Jack black singing this part lol
I always thought he said “where the hot springs blow” then I look up the lyrics and it’s “flow” - but now I’m watching this and it seems like he is saying “blow” - what’s the consensus on this ? - good topics 18 years after this masterpiece came out
Jack Black 2028
You can tell jack black didn't even have to act for this role
He is in tenacious d if he wants to he can sing
Wait... this was a role? I thought this was a documentary...
Nope
Did he even have a script?
So true!!!!!!
I don’t know what’s more difficult to process, either how is this movie still underrated or how Jack Black actually got permission from Led Zeppelin to use this song.
Money
Check his GQ interview for how. He made a big plea video to them

I would luv to see Robert Plant's reaction to this scene Jack Black is hilarious!
How could they say no to a scene so groovy lol.
Jack Black is a freakin’ BEAST!!!
U think so sis I definitely know
This Guy Deserves an Oscar
He is an ultimate legend
you can say fuck its ok
Hes fuckin' POWERFUL!!!
My best friend and I always randomly say "hammer of the gods" the way Jack Black does and we love it haha
lol i wish I had a friend like that
lol I do this in the car every time this comes on!
Hemmer ouf the gwods
I swear I always heard camera until seeing the lyrics
Omg me and my sons still reference this movie 😂 it is a classic !!
Imagine your kids are kidnapped by an imposter substitute teacher and he drives them around town all in a van with no seatbelts. School of Rock could have been a whole different kind of movie.
"I have been touched by your children... and I'm pretty sure I've touched them too"
On the DVD commentary they discuss how the script was initially darker, and pick apart how unsympathetic and self-centered Dewey's character actually is.
All made just for paying his rent
That movie was genius i was too young
I had moved on from this video but came back to it to find a comment just like this and I found it!! lol
School of Rock as a horror movie. Do it!

Just read an article about why Zeppelin said yes to them using the song and you're exactly the reason why. Plant said that they "did it for the kids."
@@TheMunchkinita2509 Thank God it wasn't Page who said that.
@@ejl1000 Right?!? 😳
It's Led Zeppelin. If you didnt hear abouy then through this movie, you still would have heard of them.
same bro this movie was half the reason i love rock and roll to this day
although Immigrant Song is used in Marvel movies, I think this is the best use of Immigrant Song in the movie history.
Don't forget Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' cover used in Immigrant Song
It’s only used in Thor Ragnarok, you should see how they use it it’s super cool :))
I literally can’t help but see this scene in my head every time I hear Immigrant song no matter the context I hear it in.
Same thing with edge of seventeen by Stevie nicks from this movie too.
Shrek???
This was always my favourite scene in this movie. His face when he's singing the Ah-ah, ah! Brilliant.
You can really tell when the actors are seriously having fun.
He wasn't sure they'd get the Zepplin song since Zepplin's pretty protective of their music.
my other favorite scene is when he seduced the lady principal Rosalie Mullins (Joan Cusack) in the pub scene 😆🤷🏽♂️✌🏽
Robert Plant's wailing cry at the start of this song is probably one of the best intros in rock history.
26 year old black guy from the bronx..this movie taught me how to rock as a kid
Some will never understand why that is significant.
@WonOldSoul Some might not...
Imagine getting pulled over and having to explain why you have a van full of small children with instruments screaming the immigrant song.
"Officer, I'm rushing these kids to the hospital for emergency Stikitodamoneosis treatment. They only have weeks to live."
His face when he goes "Hammer of the gods ..." 😂😂
the best part
D:
I’m 29 years old now and I still come back to this clip and bring back memories as a kid lol 😂
0:23 - Jack Black in The Shining.
Too funny for that.
@@mikaelpersaud5094 That's what it reminds me of!
I saw this beast of a movie as a kid. It did not disappoint back then and still hits today! There are so many classic one liners in this movie.

Jack Black slays in every role every time. Great actor!
I love this scene!! Jack Black is so awesome. Hi love for music is evident in this movie. :)
*”CUT IT OUT!! Your d y i n g remember?”*
*Proceeds to drive down the road with Led Zepplin blasting with a van-full of kids that are “dying”*
Like a good, responsible teacher giving the new generation a proper education.
😂😂😂😂😂
I just snorted 🐽
This scene alone kickstarted my love for rock and roll and Led Zeppelin as a 12-year-old. Thank you, Jack Black.
Jack didn't even have to act for this role.
_complete legend_
This is one of the only films where you can have a guy with a load of kids crammed in the back of his van but it’s still wholesome.
I saw this movie as a child, ne'er suspecting that I'd become a huge Zep fan later in life.
THEEE definition of perfect casting
Jack Black is my spirit animal. I totally do the same things when listening to music.
"Summer, you get an A+ and FIFTY GOLD STARS!"

Honestly this scene didn’t need to be in the movie but it’s so damn enjoyable and funny!
In a way it did need to be in the movie for giving us such an iconic moment.
these kind of scenes are important!!! They let you "hang out" with the characters for a little while :)
