Surprisingly I still get wind distortion from the 001 mic at the beach with a dead cat and foam. You can use a 1/4 -20 stud (cut off a bolt or use all thread) to mount your phone mount and make it sturdy since the top of the aluminum cage has two mounting threads on top.

Great video! What mic do you think would be best for recording live concerts? I have ordered the Rode Videomicro, will that be good enough? Also what setup would you recommend for action sports/vlogging/live music recording? Thanks in advance!
Thanks a lot, BeardsBikesandBrews! The Micro should do a good job, especially the great deadcat foam combo it comes with will be of great help when there's wind, if the concert has an open venue that is. Between the three I showed in the video.....the directional ones should do best, because you can point them at the stage and, to some degree only of course, lessen the influence of surrounding sound sources. These would be the SR-XM1 and the ETM 008. For action and sports i would use the gopro specific mounts and accessories, I wouldn't really recommend putting too much extra gear on a gopro when you want to use it as an action cam. Why install the mic separate if you can just install the mics directly in the GoPro adapter. And u can use an elbow and the small mics to make directional.
This cannot be set up with such a gopro only gimbal, but I have this setup here: ruclips.net/video/uI-lK0Vyz6A/видео.html Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Will this setup work with the cage that comes with the GoPro H6? If not that is okay. I can use the cage you describe in your video. I wish you would how you get the GPH6 in and out of the cage. Can you append the video or do a short video on that? Q: Do I have to have that big glass lens thing on there? Wouldn't it make more room to leave it off? I appreciate your time. Thank you...Michael
Hey, Michael! It won'T work with the cage the gopro comes with, because there are no quarter 20 threads on it. Getting it out: 8:20 You don'T have to use the UV filter, but you*'re not getting much out of not using it as far as weight or size is concerned. It's more of a protective measure for the gopro lens. But you could instead use 9h tempered glass and put that n the lens directly. Hope that helps out out a little. Greetings!
Working out would be interesting in term of what exercises you use to compliment what you do on the trapaze...and of course.....I guess.....workouts on the trapaze are always interesting to watch..... All I have currently is facebook: facebook.com/tubenoob/
Hello from Belgium nice video and set up you given us great ideas. One little question if we don't use superview than you dont see the go pro mic adapter even in 4K right ? just when we use superview we see a part of it ?
Thanks:) Yes, it is the field of view, not the resolution that is the problem. Regular 4k works just fine, with image stabilisation or without. Greetings!
Yes, instead of the phone on top you could put this one on. It is not super cheap but a lot of bang for your buck: www.amazon.com/AL-M9-Daylight-Pockable-Ultra-thin-Lightweight/dp/B07D8NRNDQ/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1535488356&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=amaran+alm9&psc=1 Hope that helps you out a little. More questions? Just ask....:)
Well, you could technically use a cold shoe mount and put a little 5" field monitor on top of the gopro that connects via hdmi. That would be a wired option....
I was raise in adobe premiere so it is my software of choice......I rarely use final cut, though it seems it's easier to understand for a beginner. I used sony vegas a couple of years ago, but it didn't really grow on me.... I know that doesn't help a lot, but I have just pretty much always used adobe premiere, since cs2 basically.....
@@Mark10ProVideo using my Samsung s9 phone instead of a iPhone with the audio and video adapter.I was just trying to figure out a way to where I can use my s9 plus to help set up the shot
Hey, Thoong Ching Lee! The design is the same as the hero 5 and 6, so the 2018 version also fits this setup. Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Hello, 502 Vlogs! Between these two I would definitely go with the nikon. It has less tele reach, but 855mm is enough...1200 is not necessary. Also because there's less reach you*re getting a lens that is a little faster than that of the canon. Battery life is better with the nikon. Its screen has more resolution and is tiltable at least. You're not getting manual focus with the nikon, which is a bummer, but the upsides outweigh this downside in my opinion. What exactly do you want to use it for? Vlogging? Cinematic video with predesigned shots and such? Wildlife? Holidays? Everything? I am asking, because the lack of manual focus can be a no go depending on what you want to use the camera for?
I'm looking for a solution where I can plug in say a mixing console via its stereo out, or worst case scenario a couple of external mics that rely on XLR connections for picking up individual instrument speakers and/or a full live stereo mix from the console. Any thoughts on whether or not this is possible with GoPro or do you think I'm looking at a different camera all together?
As long as the console offers a mixed stereo signal, you can feed it to the gopro, but in your case maybe look at recording audio separately altogether and later sync it in post with the GoPro footage. Tha seems to me is a higher quality solution.
@@Mark10ProVideo Thanks for the recommendation. That does seem to be the general consensus, I'm realizing. I just wanted to be lazy and sacrifice that step but I'm not wanting to degrade the overall quality for it. Thanks again.
Hey! I have the affiliate links to the cable in the description. They should redirect you to your country's amazon store. The most important thing is that it's double right angled, because you can adjust the position of the powerbank accordingly. Greetings!
TubeNoob TubeNoob Yea I figured the Gimbal can support up to 800grams?and gopro bein a light weight, adding a mic and aluminum housing and other accessories will be perfect. Also when u have a chance would like to see a video of your setup with the Gimbal.
TubeNoob I’ll be starting my own channel soon, but I didn’t want to start without the right gear, and you just helped me find the right ones. Thanks again.
Phew...really soundproofing a room is a lot of work......I have to look into that......good idea! It's on the to do list, but I can't tell you when I will be able to produce that video. But I will.
No, but I have to get one of these. They lack some quarter 20s though that I would have liked to see. Also again the mic doesn'T sit high enough for the rode video micro deadcat to clear the screen in 4k and superview. i will get on anyway because it is a good and cheap solution.
Just come across your setups while rigging a Black 7 setup for 1080 100fps. Trouble is my Iphone 6 IOS12....and android OS7 gives me 'no preview' . Can you help with a work around for this ?
I don't know of a workaround. I think live view is simply disabled when the gopro shoots 4k60p or at 120p. Even for playback you have to use a field monitor or a device that can read and play the HEVC codec.....I know, that's a pain right there.... You could hook up the gopro to a pc running OBS for example as a webcam. But again you would need an extra device, a dongle that supports 4k 60fps....then you could record the signal to the pc, so you don't havte to hit record on the gopro, which wouldn't kill live view then.... It's a pain.....I hate that myself....
@@Mark10ProVideo Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have since found out that one of the new highend 'gaming' (S9, Iphone X etc.) phones will do the job but they are nearly twice the cost of the camera!
Hey! These are generic. I have amazon affiliate links listed in the description. They should redirect you to your respective amazon online store. Greetings!

Ok, good. I own one, but rarely use it. If you want to use it for the gopro setup you should use a mini ballhead inbetween the cage and the mic, so it does sit higher. Otherwise the bulky deadcat will show up on screen.
Hi! Thank you very much:) It is called 3m dual lock, I use the low profile black version. There are affiliate links int the description that should redirect you to the exact product on your local amazon store, but you should be able to find it when searching for the terms above. Greetings!
Thanks so much for your videos and the detail you give in your builds, it’s really helpful! I bought the Rode video micro the other day but haven’t set it up. What are your thoughts on that compares to the three in this video? I really like the small size of the three and the ease of being able to flip the first mic over to the rear.
The Micro is fine, but you have to use a mini ballhead or something else that will make it sit higher up, because the deadcat it comes with will show up on screen if you mount it right on top of the gopro. I like the quality, but my idea with this setup, was to have as small a setup as possible:) Greetings!
And of course thank you very much for the nice comment:) Sometimes I forget to thank people because my mind goes right to the problem or the question at hand...
That’s kind of what I thought was the case. I was thinking I may be able to use the side mounting similar to what you did with a ball mount to be able to flip in back like you do with yours. Just not sure if it would still be in the shot over there. Another question, when you are using your phone as the external monitor/ remote are you just running The GoPro app with the WiFi? I’ve heard some people saying the cage interferes with the WiFi and gps.
Mh...gps maybe, that I don*t know, never used it. But the remote control works just fine with the cage. never had an issue there. With the ballhead it would surely work, but without it, even on the side it will show up. The field of view is wide than it is higher so to speak.
Thank you very much! Well, something else that approximately fits the dimensions of the powerbank.....anything approx. chocolate bar sized....:) If the rubber bands are strong enough, you could even put an anker astro E1 on there. Which country are you from?
Cool! last dumb questions. What kind of mic TAPE did you use to have it fit? and what was the best charger double adapter cable? do you recommend a specific length? Thank you so much again!!!
Don't the affiliate links in the description redirect you to your local amazon store? Are the items out of stock? Because I use geo-targeted genius links, that should work.....
Again, these items are listed in the description and should redirect you your local amazon store. Let me know if they don't work. I usually make sure to have the exact same item i am using in the video and if not the exact same one, one that also fits....
I like your vid on this. Pretty nice little setup. Going to get this stuff for the iphone clip. Great job man! Question: Could this be used on the GoPro short stick tripod ? The one you have in the video, tripod, will the bro-rock short stick + tripod be okay? Thank you sir.

No problemo, Anna! Thanks for the nice comment:) If there's almost no ambient sounds, the gopro will do alright on its own, but a big advantage you always have with an external mic is wind protection. That will come in very handy when it gets windy. be it outside on the mountain or in the streets..
No, the cage won't fit, but if you're looking for a gimbal setup, I came up with this: ruclips.net/video/uI-lK0Vyz6A/видео.html Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

There is an app called myk app, that will use a bluetooth connection to you rphone and the microphone of your phone to record the audio. it will tehn sync the audio recorded from the phone with the video recorded on the gopro and give you a single file. I haven*t tedted that, but I am going to in the coming weeks....
Thank you, Raw Bliss! Appreciate the nice comment:) Well, then this setup definitely doesn't work. It orignated as a compact vlogging setup for people who use the action cam an an action cam and then also wanted to do a little vlogging with it:)
if you have the tripod gopro mount you can connect that to the tripod and then have the regular gopro attachment on the cage so you can quickly remove it and use it with other mounts. Doesn't fix it if you want it to be water proof. But for head or chest mount it would work!
@@Mdoug31 Oh that stuff! That is for taping cables inside the hood of a car for example I don*t know the technical term, that is a very special kind of tape and by no means the only one you can use for this. A regular tape with a textured surface will do just fine. It just serves the purpose of increasing the diameter of the mic/adapter. Sorry, that one I didn't even think of:)

Thank you very much, Syed Shoaib Ali! Appreciate the nice comment:) What microphone are you using? It has to be a 3.5mm 3 pole connection. I probably watched this video at least 5 times. Although the hero 7 has way improved audio compared to previous models, which microphone do you suggest to reduce wind sounds when outside vlogging? Curious on your thoughts?
Thanks:) Much appreciated! No, when using the deadcat it would show up on screen in 4k and superview, and also it would move too easily, the jack alone won't hold it in place. Greetings!
Hey there! Mh.....don'T think that will work, because the gopro adapter plate for the gimbal doesn*T allow for the use of a cage. Hope that helps you out a little.
Getting it out: 8:20
You don'T have to use the UV filter, but you*'re not getting much out of not using it as far as weight or size is concerned. It's more of a protective measure for the gopro lens. But you could instead use 9h tempered glass and put that n the lens directly.
Hope that helps out out a little. Greetings!
Wow man. You are very creative with these GoPro setups!
Thanks, man! It's become a weird addiction of mine somehow. People keep asking so I have to keep thinking haha.......:) Greetings!
Dude you're a machine! Ever though about making a training routine video?
What kind of training routine? For trapeze or working out?
I also have another business related question. How can I DM you?
Greetings!
Thanx for the respose have allready bought a couple of your vlogging syetup. great
Awesome! And of course you're very welcome:)
Great setup! Is there anyway I can add a small LED light with this particular setup?
Yes, instead of the phone on top you could put this one on. It is not super cheap but a lot of bang for your buck:

No problemo:)
My Saramonic SR-XM1 operated for 3 minutes only. Factory defect, lot of people complaining about Saramonic problems.
Suggz bad....what other products are affected. I have only used the sr xm1 and the smartmic version. So far they still work....
SOLVED: You need to turn OFF WiFi connection.
That will keep the mic from operating??
strange but yes, don't use the app to control the camera and disable wifi to
That should reduce rfid interference, but I have never heard it can completely kill the mic:) Good to know!!
Great pragmatic suggestions! Thanks for sharing!
You*re very welcome, Don Joyce! Thanks for the nice comment!
How can I get a printed out list of your components for this set up? Such as brands and where to buy them. Thanks
Check out the video description. There's a comprehensive list of amazon affiliate links. Greetings!
Very well thought out video and setup. I appreciate the effort that went into this
Hey, Ksimo13! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
are there any options for a selfie screen that are wired or NOT a smartphone?
Well, you could technically use a cold shoe mount and put a little 5" field monitor on top of the gopro that connects via hdmi. That would be a wired option....
any thoughts on video editing software? this could be a video series for you! :)

Excuse can you help me decide which camera is better for video mainly, the nikon L840 or the canon sx530?
TubeNoob thank you for answering, I want it for vlogging
Is there a list/links for all of these items to purchase?
There are affiliate links in the description. Thanks for asking✌
@@Mark10ProVideo appreciate it it! Keep up the great work!

Yep, that one will work just fine:) Thanks for the nice comment!
TubeNoob I’ll be starting my own channel soon, but I didn’t want to start without the right gear, and you just helped me find the right ones. Thanks again.
Cool:)
TubeNoob do you have any video related to soundproofing a room, Most likely on the budget, and if you do not have one could you make it please
Phew...really soundproofing a room is a lot of work......I have to look into that......good idea! It's on the to do list, but I can't tell you when I will be able to produce that video. But I will.
Just curious if you got that new GoPro hero case with built in audio adapter yet?
No, but I have to get one of these. They lack some quarter 20s though that I would have liked to see. Also again the mic doesn'T sit high enough for the rode video micro deadcat to clear the screen in 4k and superview. i will get on anyway because it is a good and cheap solution.
@@Mark10ProVideo yea 1/4 parts is a big deal for me too, well i cant wait to see what you have plans for it.
Is there another choice for the GoPro hero audio adapter
I'm afraid not...they made it proprietary....
I have since found out that one of the new highend 'gaming' (S9, Iphone X etc.) phones will do the job but they are nearly twice the cost of the camera!

www.amazon.com/dp/B015R0IQGW/?coliid=I3AAX0JS8XM6TC&colid=3QY49XF0R6OA9&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Thank you for the nice comment! Yuu can pull it off at a 45 degree angle. Just carefully nudge it out of the socket slowly.
Ok, good. I own one, but rarely use it. If you want to use it for the gopro setup you should use a mini ballhead inbetween the cage and the mic, so it does sit higher. Otherwise the bulky deadcat will show up on screen.
How much wind noise is eliminated by just using a dead cat?
It is a huge improvement compared to just using the mic. But why would you not use the foam wind screen, it comes with the mic.
Hi there great video, what kind of tape/adhesive you use?
Hi! Thank you very much:) It is called 3m dual lock, I use the low profile black version. There are affiliate links int the description that should redirect you to the exact product on your local amazon store, but you should be able to find it when searching for the terms above. Greetings!
TubeNoob thanks
The field of view is wide than it is higher so to speak.
lol the GoPro External Audio Adapter for $299 (or something ridiculous) is pure gold.
They are selling it for 299 now?!?!?!!? jesus....it was painful at just under 100 back in the day...
Great video! The “powerbank” charger is not available on amazon, what is the next best option???
Thank you very much!
Well, something else that approximately fits the dimensions of the powerbank.....anything approx. chocolate bar sized....:)
If the rubber bands are strong enough, you could even put an anker astro E1 on there. Which country are you from?
Thank you! USA. I am in France too.
Cool! last dumb questions.
What a great set up I was impressed and no sticky damage to the gopro awesome thanks

Thanks! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
You can use anything that has a quarter 20 screw and screw it right into the bottom of the cage, or you can attach the gopro mount that comes with the cage via two tiny screws and use all the gorpo accessories. Greetings!
Hi! What type of black tape did you use around the microphones to tighten their fit on the cable clamp?
That is tape for insulating wires inside the motor cabin of a car:) I just had that laying around. You can use regular tape.

Thank you for this video, it's really usefull, I'm trying to choose the best mic for my gopro hero 5 and it's little bit complicated. I was also wondering if I would need it ( my videos, vlogs in street, in capitals with a lot of people or in historical place, natural place like mountain etc.. )
No problemo, Anna! Thanks for the nice comment:) If there's almost no ambient sounds, the gopro will do alright on its own, but a big advantage you always have with an external mic is wind protection. That will come in very handy when it gets windy. be it outside on the mountain or in the streets..

So, without audio adapter is there Bluetooth budget audio for GoPro
There is an app called myk app, that will use a bluetooth connection to you rphone and the microphone of your phone to record the audio. it will tehn sync the audio recorded from the phone with the video recorded on the gopro and give you a single file.

What about + smooth q gimbal?
Hey there! Mh.....don'T think that will work, because the gopro adapter plate for the gimbal doesn*T allow for the use of a cage. I guess you could somehow rig everything to the gimbal, but I would have to think about that for some time.
If you want to place the complete setup onto a gimbal, then something along the lines of a FeiyuTech a1000 would probably be a good pick.
