not a bad set up! i need to order the cage and mic adapter for the go pro to get a mini set up like this going myself! i often use my phone as an external monitor for my gopro and a6500, but with the wide angle of the gopro i find its pretty easy to make sure im in frame at all times
Thanks for the nice comment:) It's useful if you want to have a specific framing, or if you want to point at something without looking, also the playback over the phone is nice option to have so to speak. But of course your right the gopro has a viewing angle that keeps one calm at all times when it comes to wondering whether one is in frame:) Many greetings!
I ordered everything I needed, only question I have is you mention that the cheese plate attaches to a quick release. Is that something that came with your tripod? Will the cheese plate attach to the screw on the tripod with out the quick release?
Yes, the quick release plate comes with the tripod. If it is a 1/4 inch screw it will attach to the cheese plate no problem:) Hope that helps you out a little! Greetings!
Hey, Rugby Dad! I am an amazon affiliate, I have links to every item in the description. Maybe some are out of stock, but all should be obtainably via amazon actually.....
Im going on a family trip and have an older Hero 3+, I’m quite content with the video quality, enough so that I’m not ready to upgrade. With that being said, would this setup be applicable for my model? I think it’s worth investing the $115 or so to enhance the sound as well as have a display screen. I appreciate your time and your content. Thank you for making it in a way that not tech savvy persons can understand and implement.
Hey, Joseph Chi-town! Thanks for the nice comment:) Well if you get a fitting cage, I don'T see why not......of course you can also skip on the expensive audio adapter and get a 3rd party hero 3 audio adapter. You would have to find a clever way to attach it. A bigger cable clamp like this might work if you put it onto the side of the base plate to hold the end of the adapter, then use the regular mic cable and manage it with the smaller cable clamps. Bigger ones like these I mean: www.amazon.com/eBoot-Adjustable-Cable-Adhesive-Clamps/dp/B01LYO307S/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1520982120&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=eboot+cable+clamps&psc=1 Could put some tape around the end of the adapter to get the perfect fit. Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
I will most definitely give this a shot, I feel it is worth it. I’ll update you when all is said, done, and tested. Again thanks for the great content, as well, thanks for the reply and advice, much appreciated. :-D
Hey, Mr. Nice Guy! Mh....I don*T know of a session cage that comes with two attachments for a coldshoe, so I would have to come up with some solution for the phone mount...I will think about it.....
this is a cool setup but very impractical. kudos on the effort though...it looks fun to assemble. the best setup is simply a Panasonic FZ300 with the awesome 600MM reach. Vlogging is just only selfie mode...with a gopro you have no zoom range. the FZ300 is 4K and has a flippy screen and then add a mic...boom. Oh...and the FZ300 has an internal timelapse which vloggers love doing. cheers mate.
Hey, Trail Aesthetics! Thanks for the nice comment! it'S intended for people who use the gopro as an action cam and then want a setup wo up the quality and usability for vlogging. It is not intended as a vlogging device per se. Of course for that there's better options. BUT it is quite the nice little camera for vlogging, never any AF issues, because there'S no AF, the wide viewing angle is great for vlogging too, and quality apart from low light performance is decent...I get why people like to use it....greetings!
i'm considering the Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone with Rycote Lyre Shock Mount for my gopro6 setup. any thoughts on the mike quality or use? thanks for the great gopro setup videos! i really like the MkII setup. thanks again! :)
Hey, alzatoth! Thanks for the nice comment:) AUdio quality is fine, but the deadcat will show up on screen, if you mount it directly to a coldshoe on the cage. I would use a mini ballhead to make it sit higher, so you can use all available video modes like 4k superview. Hope that helps you out a little. More questions? Just ask.... Greetings!
OK! i WILL ask! LOL. i see the frame you chose to mount your gopro into had no rear door. any thoughts on why you chose a model without? is the cam secure enuf without a door on it? a frame comparison, might be a great video. thanks again! :D
I never had problems with a cage without a door. It is pretty secure in my estimation. Haven*t compared it to a cage with the doors though. Maybe it is even more secure. IF the cage with door also lets you reach all the connectors and the cage door has absolutely no wiggle, I don't see why not to use a cage with door? I chose one without, because it always felt secure enough for me. Greetings!
Brill video! I’ve just got a GoPro 7 black and although the audio is a huge improvement. My question is will this cage and setup for the 7 black? Thanks again for a brill video and I hope this works. Look forward to hearing from you. Mali
Thank you very much, Mali Photography! Much appreciate the nice comment:) Yes all the gopros from the 5 to the 7 including the 2018 have the same dimensions. It will work:) Greetings!
Nice video. I had a similar rig set up with my GoPro 4 Black using a Rode VideoMicro 2 years ago while traveling in Bali. It's light and has a relatively small profile which is great for carrying and recording anywhere but the MAJOR downside is that the footage was just way too shaky during recording while walking around. The newer GoPros have internal stablization so that should fix the problem. Since then I've invested in a Zhiyun Smooth Q and all my footage (smartphone & gopro) are as smooth as butter!
Like what bag to use? I would simply use one of these if I didn't want to carry it around assembled: www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Carrying-Case-GoPro-Small/dp/B00PMMBBSG/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1545680140&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=gopro+carrying+case&psc=1 I used one of those for some time. That would also work: www.amazon.com/Evecase-Digital-Professional-Shoulder-Mirrorless/dp/B074KPJXR7/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1545680308&sr=8-6&keywords=camera+bag+small Did I understand the question correctly?
Hey, James Senora! I get asked that a lot......I am looking into that, but can*t afford a gimbal right now.....I am thinkng about a setup using the crane m from zhiyun.....I don*T know of a dedicated gopro gimbal that will work with the gopro cage.....ut I am looking into a setup like that.....
Hey, PapaRussel! As long as the tripod comes with a quarter inch screw, or a quick release plate that has a quarter inch screw, it will work, because you can screw it right into the bottom of the cage. Greetings!
Is the camera quick release, that you apply to the bottom, part of the tripod setup or is it an optional purchase. Love the video and have set up my gopro just like this. Thanks for the instructions!
If the gorillapod focus is too expensive, the SLR version with the koolehoada E2 ballhead is in my opinion a very good option as well. It is certainly sturdy enough for the weight! Hope that helps you out a little.
Yes, might be some time before I get around to do it though....until then...it would probably look somewhat like these: s8+ gimbal: ruclips.net/video/fkr95sPmnOw/видео.html update: ruclips.net/video/QLsU6iIomUo/видео.html Hope that helps you out a little in the meantime. Greetings!
Thanks, Lone! It's somewhere around 250 all new, depending on the deals you get of course you can drop the price. The weight is close to 650-700g I believe. Greetings!
Would you recommend the Panasonic G7, Sony A1500 or the Canon EOS M3? I’m hoping to start a channel of reptiles and custom built enclosures as well as vlogging events and expos so I need something affordable and easy to use with great picture and sound something as well that can record video for 15-20 minutes at a time. Thank you. Keep up the videos I love your pointers and tricks for camera setups.
Hey, Delilah Lou! Between these three, looking at what is important to you, I would go EOS M3 with the 15 45 stm m kit lens, or possibly the 11 22 stm m, which is great for vlogging. Small form factor, ok autofocus system, selfie screen, external mic input....although you need a hack to put a mic on it without blocking the flip up screen. For example: ruclips.net/video/q88p4CdchmI/видео.html A5100 has overheating issues. Lots of production spread, but you*re lucky if you get 20 minutes in a hot environment, also no external audio input. G7 is a great video centric camera, which will get you the best results overall, but you will have to learn how to set it up for different scenarios, because it is not going to give you the best possible results in complete auto mode. Although you will get pretty decent results in that mode. Autofocus in 1080p with a new verison kit lens, the 14 42 panacake, not the regular barrel one, is workable. The 12 32 from panasonic is the best one for you I think, should you land on the G7. 4k autofocus is slow. Overall the least good af system of the three cameras. If you consider the 11 22 stm m for the M3, you might also consider the Canon SL2 aka 200D, body only, with the 10 18 stm lens. That, in my opinion, is pretty much the best beginner vlog camera this year, that is easy to use, gives you very good results, has a tilt svivel touch screen, small form factor, external audio input, is light weight and features dual pixel autofocus. It is the whole nine yards when it comes to vlogging I think. But with the 10 18 it is around 750USD, not including an external mic at this point. Hope that helps you out a little. More questions, just ask. Greetings!
Mh....I like the Takstar SGC 598 for example.....that one is rather cheap but has a decent quality. No deadcat included though. So if using it outside in a windy situation you might want to invest in a 3rd party deadcat aka fur windscreen or fur windmuff. It has a low cut filter to bypass static and ow frequency noise which will give you a cleaner signal and it also comes with a +10db pregain, which is good because the internal pregains of the camera are not good. It also runs off of a simple AA battery, doesn'T show up on screen even with a super wide angle like the 10 18 mm stm from canon, has a shock mount and the simplest of cable management.... Rode Video MICRO also a good choice. No pregain, no low cut filter, but draws power from the camera and has an EXCELLENT puffin, foam/fur combination windscreen. Of course there's lots of options from 60 bucks upwards, but there's really no bang for your buck types that I know of. In that regard the Takstar is a good choice.....neewer has a fur windscreen for the takstar, haven*t used it though....I ordered one just now so I can test that combo.....
It's a helpful video, but when monitoring using a smartphone I can see a small lag. can you suggest an external screen and setup to get live feedback please.
There's some lag that's true, but for the most part it is workable. There is no monitor with a decent panel with that form factor unfortunately. You could use a small monitor like this one www.amazon.com/Feelworld-1920x1080-Brightness-Ultra-Thin-Ultra-Light/dp/B07BKX4QTP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1526663772&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=feelworld+f6&psc=1 and place the mic on the monitor mount, so the monitor can sit on top of the cage. But this option is a little too big for vlogging I would think. Hope that still helps you out a little. Greetings!
Is there a way to make the quick release plate one that has the classic gopro attachment to use with gopro branded tripods? Do you think it would work?
This video is still sooo relevant! I just did my Black 7 with a Røde Video Mic and it looks great! Thanks so, so very much for the detailed tutorial and Amazon parts list.
The base plate cheese plate is not available on amazon. I’m looking for a set up that will work with enough room to attach the adapter like you did. Any recommendations on an alternate. Thank you
Mh.....you can use parts like these that will also work, but they will bulk up the setup a little. Pricewise still within the range of the base plate cheese plate. Wait....found it...: AH.....there it is: www.camvate.com/camvate-1-4quot-amp-3-8quot-thread-universal-cheese-plate-camera-baseplate-for-dslr-camera-cage-rig_p1578.html Unscrew one of the rail mounts: www.amazon.com/NICEYRIG-Tripod-Mounting-Railblock-Support/dp/B06XHXFJF7/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1513719021&sr=8-6&keywords=camera+base+cheese+plate Use as is: www.amazon.com/SmallRig-Camera-Mounting-Railblock-Support/dp/B01IOY50S0/ref=sr_1_33_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1513719064&sr=8-33-spons&keywords=camera+base+cheese+plate&psc=1 Use as is: www.amazon.com/SmallRig-Camera-Plate-Clamp-Panasonic/dp/B0197OP4PU/ref=sr_1_19_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1513719021&sr=8-19-spons&keywords=camera+base+cheese+plate&psc=1 That's what comes to my mind right now.... Hope that helps you out. Greetings!
I am still a big fan of the ETM 008, it does better with noise. But will upload a video of a direct comparison between the ETM 008 and the iGoMicMiniShotgun on the weekend if you're interested. Greetings!
Great set up! what's a tripod you use in that set up? I have a cheap one right now and I can hear it in the audio, I heard about liquid swivel, not sure though, what would you recommend?
Thanks, Daniel! Much appreciate the nice comment. I use a Joby gorillapod focus. But all selfie sticks are more or less touch sensitive, in the sense that rubbing them and handling them in general can leave you with unwanted sounds on the audio track. My recommendation would be to limit the hand movement on the selfie stick/tripod to a minimum. The gorillapods work well, but it doesn*t have to be the focus, the SLR will also work just fine for a gopro setup. I would use a 3rd party ballhead though, not the one that comes with the SLR gorillapod. A ballhead like this for example: www.amazon.com/Pergear-Photography-Camera-Rotation-Ballhead/dp/B00MGJH5U6/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515285139&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=ballhead+kooleaho What is that liquid svivel thing? Can you send me a link to a product?
Thank you, dan james! Cost depends on what parts you need and what deals you get. The easiest way is to use the geo-targeted affiliate links in the video description. They should redirect you to the individual item on your local amazon page. Then place what you need in the cart and it will add up the cost exactly. If you enjoyed this video, you might also be interested in these: BUDGET: ruclips.net/video/k5zw2FspQrs/видео.html MARK III: ruclips.net/video/uI-lK0Vyz6A/видео.html TANK EDITION: ruclips.net/video/eAW_FD2ltOs/видео.html STUDIO SETUP: ruclips.net/video/Vh2SfWWFjcs/видео.html Hope that helps you out. The cold shoe mounts in the link aren't the same as the ones on the video... They have holes in the center vs the hole being offset... Do you know where I can find the offset cold shoe mounts...?
Hey, Jim! Which amazon store do you use? I tried to link to the same coldshoe mounts as in the video. All of the ones i picked should work though, because they usually come with the fitting screws. If you let me know which country you*re from I can update the links accordingly. Sry for the inconvenience.
The camvate ones should work just fine.....why should there be a problem if the screws fit? Can you send me a link, so I know exactly what you're referring to?
Damn, I have an issue with the audio adapter. It keeps falling off the velcro. (I think the tension on the cable to the GoPro is too high..) Used a zip tie for some extra DIY. Thanks for the video!
Is it very warm where you are? That can become a problem, I had that issue in very hot weather, or what would be considered hot weather where I am from. Nice hack with the ziptie!:) You're very welcome of course, thanks for the nice comment!
Wish you could send that to me to put to good use here in Majuro Marshall Islands hehe. Very limited resources here but I wanna do my own TV shows and of course Vlogs!! Good stuffs, first time watching your video and already subscribed and like lol!!
Thanks a lot:) Love to hear that! Mh....yeah that can be a problem, if it's hard to get stuff, have to be creative and or patient I guess....what is the tv show going to be about?
Noob, the cold shoe mount that I have for the side of the cage for selfie screen won't mount due to the edge being too close to the cage lens area. The hole of the shoe mount is perfectly centered instead of off center like the one you used. I'm thinking of adding something that will act as an extension and provide outward separation so that I can add the mini ball head and smartphone clip. What would you recommend?
If you can't find the right cold shoe mount, you could use a combo like this... Golden thread reducer: www.amazon.com/Standard-Female-Reducer-Adapter-Precision/dp/B017RICIGG/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1527541281&sr=8-9&keywords=thread+reducer+dslr 3/8 to 1/4 inch screw hole adapter: www.amazon.com/Standard-Female-Reducer-Adapter-Precision/dp/B07255GKMJ/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1527541281&sr=8-9&keywords=thread%2Breducer%2Bdslr&th=1 Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Hey, droneXfactor! ....and the gopro for b-roll-----now that's also a pretty cool idea:) If you're interested in smartphone setups, you might like these videos.... iPhone7 MARK II: ruclips.net/video/LgyaP9mDaXY/видео.html S7 Edge: ruclips.net/video/-qMysh_k7lA/видео.html Greetings!
I*m not sure I know what you mean....if auto rotation on your smartphone is enabled the live view image on the phone will flip on its own...did I misunderstand you?
@@Mark10ProVideo Yes, my problem is if I vlog with the gopro the image in my iPhone is not a mirror is flipped, I am going to try to figure it out, thanks for your answer!
No....sorry...it doesn't.....I tried to come up with a solution for that, but haven*t figured out a budget way yet how to translate the hdmi signal to a usb compatible signal that the phone will take on via OTG support. I am working on that though...sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. Greetings!
Thanks, Antazo Moverz! That one is the Gorillapod Focus. I use it mainly for heavier cameras. The SLR with a 3rd party ballhead like the Koolehoada E1 or E2 will do just fine for this setup and is less expensive. Just as an info. Greetings!
Hello! Great video! I love your set up it is so freaking cool!! I own a go pro 5 black and I want to use my android phone as the devide to go live on youtube. Do u know if that's possible? People tell me to go live with the phone's camera but I want to use the go pro high resolution (1080/4k if possible) when live streaming. Do you think I am trying to do to much? I'm looking at purchasing a FEBON HDMI iCapture Grabber card that cost around $120usd..
GoPro to phone to internet....I don*t know how to solve that yet......you would have to have an hdmi to usb dongle to convert the signal fro the gopro, then an app like maybe a webcam app that would take such a usb signal, but could also live stream it to the internet......I tried to find a way some time ago to make that happen, but I couldn't then....I would still like to find a solution, but have other videos in the pipeline right now.... Via such a card you can certainly hook up a camera with hdmi output and use it as a "webcam". The you could use a software like OBS to live stream for example..... Thanks for the very nice comment! Much appreciated:)
TubeNoob thank you sir! I will keep trying and will one day hope to share my experience! I really appreciate your response. Have a wonderful day and keep up the amazing work!
Your setup is perfect but if I have to find a defect is this: the mini ball head with quick release and my iphone 6 is too heavy and it tend to flex beside with case gopro. this is a little not confortable when I vlog and i need to do enough strong to hold all. do u know some model of gorrillapod not much heavy but to be able to hold all?
Thanks for the nice comment:) You could use a joby gorillapod SLR and this ballhead, which is super strong, but relatively light weight: www.amazon.com/koolehaoda-Tripod-Ballhead-Release-Maximum/dp/B0711YWMK8/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1524521518&sr=8-7&keywords=koolehaoda+ball+head Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Hey! The reason I used it, was that its deadcat is smaller and doesn't shoe up on screen. It wasn't a quality of sound decision. I have never compared the two, but I would think that they are pretty much in the same level as far as voice handling and self noise ration goes. The one thing the iGoMicMini has over the rode is way better RFID protection, because it has a metal body, whereas the rode has a plastic body and is therefore more susceptible to frequency interference. Hoep that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Hey, Keith Cortez! Yes, I did that with the mark I: ruclips.net/video/1prlXtkgEbo/видео.html You could use the MARK II setup as a base and use the mic and screen configuration from the MARK I. Greetings!
TubeNoob I saw that right after making this post. Felt like an idiot. Hahaha. I also saw one you made for phone vlogging. Could you make a vertical setup for the gopro? Like go pro on the bottom, screen in the middle, and a mic on top? I feel like that would be more stable.
Let me think that over....the glif has a quarter inch mount on both the bottom and the top.....you would need a longer mic cable, but it should work.....I have to whisk something together....drop me a pm on facebook ( ttps://facebook.com/tubenoob/ ) and I can send you some pictures after the holiday mid next week. Greetings!
TubeNoob TubeNoob I've seen a cellphone mount with what looka like a cold shoe mount where they put the microphone. Its called an Unlazi Adjustable Smartphone clip. So it could be an all vertical setup. Thanks for replying btw. You have my subscribe. :)
G'day Tubenoob, Great video. I have upgraded my vlogging camera to a gopro hero 5 black for 2018. ( I know there are other cameras that I can use but Nikon pulled the pin on the DL camera ) I have a gopro hero 5 with the same case black metal case as you have. I want to use a gimbal but I want to use the black metal as well. Can you suggest which gimbal would hold the hero5 black in the metal case. Thanks.
Hey, Christopher Howarth! Not the expert here, but I have searched and found no dedicated gopro gimbal that will accommodate a gopro in a cage. Don't just take my word for it, but I think a small gimbal for mirrorless cameras might be the best option here..... Zhiyun Crane M and gimbals like this. If Zhiyun updates the Evolution Z1, maybe they will make it happen... Hope that still helps you out a little. Greetings!
I recently livestreamed a protest from my phone while recording with an action cam, using a bigger DSLR cage to mount stuff on, and I gotta say this would be a MUCH better setup for that sort of thing. I'm absolutely gonna steal this for a travel rig when I cover trade shows, etc. Great video!
Great video! Will that phone clamp work if one used double-sided low-profile tape (as shown in your Samsung Galaxy S7 vlogging setup) to attach a power bank to the phone? Thanks.
since the GoPro has a HDMI input, can you somehow connect your phone to the camera for bigger screen, and high speed feedback? I don't like how the app is delayed
Hey, C.R.U Media! I think it might be possible to translate the hdmi signal to a usb signal via an expensive dongle and use a usb camera app to display the signal....haven't tried that yet, because the cheapest dongle I could find was still around 150 bucks. it is one of those you would use to hook up any camera with hdmi to a pc to stream or record the screen....I have looked into a cheap hack, but couldn't pull that off yet.....
I live I'm USA California./ Dan Francisco area and have no idea where to find most of the parts used in the video and wondering how much does that set up (minus the camera of course) will run me around?
Hey, volkan akbaba! The description has affiliate links to amazon. But ebay will probably have some of the parts if not all as well. You can check the names of the parts there and then google them for example. All prices are approximations: Mic 100 Audio adapter 60 Cage 20 GLIF grip 40 base cheese plate 25 mini ballhead 8 cold shoe mount 5 somewhere in the neighbourhood of 250 I think...also excluding the smartphone and assuming new parts. Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Hi! I absolutely love this video! I also have a H5 Black that I would like to use for blogging, I saw this and the Mark 1 video, is this updated video to replace the old one and would I need to just get everything from here or do I need to get stuff from the other video and this one as well? Lastly, is everything that you used in this video linked below?
Hey, Ebony Element! Love to hear that:) Much appreciate the nice comment! Everything you need is linked below each video. So all the things you need for the Mark II setup are linked below that video. Thanks for asking about the links by the way! Greetings!
hi there, I was just wondering what is the swivel tripod and other tripods in this video that you use to connect to the base? also if you have a link to it and how it connects would be very much appreciated....thank you kindly.
Hey, Thalia! That is a "joby gorillapod focus" with a "joby ballhead x". It is a little overkill for a gopro setup, but the only selfie stick I own, so I used that one. The setup isn't heavy so a "gorillapod slr" or an alternative. This one is quite good and doesn't need an extra ballhead. On the other hand you therefore have no quick release on this flexible tripod. Except if you put a ballhead on it: www.amazon.com/Lammcou-Durable-Flexible-Smartphone-Samsung/dp/B073N9687P/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516488394&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Tripod+Staive+Lammcou®+3+in+1+Camera+Tripod+Mini+Tripod+Mobile+Phone+Camera+Sports+Camera+Flexible+Tripod+Light+Universal+Durable+Octopus+Gorilla+Pod+Monopod+for+Nikon+Canon+Pentax+Sony+Camera%2FCamcorder+Stand+%2B+iPhone+SAMSUNG+Huawei+Sony+%2B+GoPro+Action+Camera+Tripod If you want to go with the gorillapod SLR, I would buy tripod and ballhead separately and go with a 3rd party ballhead. The koolehaoda E1 is a very good ballhead with a reasonable price. If you want to use heavier cameras just check out the E2 or E3 www.amazon.com/koolehaoda-Tripod-Ballhead-Release-Maximum/dp/B0711YWMK8/ref=sr_1_sc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1516488244&sr=8-2-spell&keywords=Kooleh+AODA+Tripod+Ball+Head They all connect pretty much the same way. I don't have a video about that, but I can explain. Ballhead with quick release plate like in the video: The quick release plate has a quarter inch screw, that screws into the base plate that has a quarter inch hole. Then the setup, with the quick release plate attached is put onto the ballhead by using the clamp mechanism of the ballhead. Then the ballhead usually connects to the tripod via either a quarter inch mount or a 3/8 inch mount. The Lammcou flexible tripod would connect directly via a quarter inch screw to the baseplate of the gopro setup if you don'T put an extra ballhead on it. Hope that helps you out a little. More questions? Just ask. Greetings!
AMAZING, thank you so much for your quick response. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching your video's on the GoPro hero 5 and appreciate your time! Cheers for the links and instruction, I am going to buy everything to emulate this Mark II setup! Thanks mate
Hey, Abel Casanova! I got that from amazon. Search this: SAMDI Gaming Headphone Stand Wooden Headest Hanger/Holder/Mount Omega Walnut Finish Greetings!
Phew.....you would have to put the phone on the gimbal and use a smaller mic I suppose....like the one I used in the MARK I version.....but the Base of the MARK II version.....then a medium sized gimbal that is intended for mirrorless cameras.....I think it can be done.....give me like two to three weeks to produce the video, but I think that is how I would do it....
To my knowledge the silver doesn't have an option for an external mic..... de.gopro.com/help/articles/block/compare-cameras The GoPro App remote control should work though. Greetings!

Hi I have a Go pro hero 5 And I cant afford to Run out and Buy a G7X So I Have a question, I am wanting to make a Vlogging set up And I Have Seem a Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 for sale used for $100 My question is this camera has wifi ability So would it Be perfect to use as a selfie screen ? I believe you could go to the Gopro app with it , so it seems like it may be the perfect option for a selfie screen. Am I right ?
Hey, Jucileia Klaus! If you find a case that fits the hero 4. DAMBBB NICE SET UP....WERE DO I GET THEM PART'S??????WOULD ENJOY MY GO PRO WITH THEM GADGET'S ON IT I DO A LOT OF KAYAKING AND WOULD ENJOY TAPING MY TRIPS ON THAT WAY....
A quick question with the GoPro I had the Hero 3 and when using my iPhone there was a 3 second delay. Has that changed to be "real time" now with upgraded Gopro's and better app for your phone ? As it makes it harder I would think for Vlogging with the delay Thank you john
Yes, that is waaay better now. There's still a slight delay, but if you*re using a smartphone that's reasonably fast, it is absolutely workable. 3 seconds is bad......:) Greetings!
I want to try this setup on the front of my kayak while I'm fishing minus the selfie screen. I'd like to get better audio while I'm kayak fishing, so I can explain what I'm doing on the water. This might be a viable option. Do think it could work for me?
Hey, Simon Hayter! The intros are shot with my S7 Edge phone. I have recently switched to the S8+, but just because of the mhl support. I mostly use smartphones when I am in my little studio. Greetings!
Do you know if a goprohero6 black can be used without using a smart phone. Then just transfer video directly to laptop for editing? Sorry for basic question...I'm just not a phone person.
Hey, Glocked17! You can definitely use the GoPro without a having the smartphone connected. Also to get the footage transferred to your laptop, you don't need the phone. The phone and the app are a must though to update the gopro firmware though. Hope that helps you out a little. More questions? Just ask.... Greetings!
TubeNoob that really helps. I have been looking for a good camera to,shoot video for my channel...I do a lot of action, on the move recording. Image stabilization is my main goal...as well as audio improovment. I was told DSLR cameras are very unstable...so any other advice?
Wait a week and check out my gopro gimbal setup:) The best stabilisation you will get from gimbals...optical stabilisation of a lens only doesn't even compare...it's meant for stills basically, not for video work.
this video is so good that I was able to make your setup while I was drunk hahaha
You just have to wait long enough for the right comment to pin! HAha!!:)
Love to hear that!
TubeNoob my man!
I had to watch it 3 times because I was baked :(
Well, thanks for not giving up:)
TubeNoob lmao
not a bad set up! i need to order the cage and mic adapter for the go pro to get a mini set up like this going myself! i often use my phone as an external monitor for my gopro and a6500, but with the wide angle of the gopro i find its pretty easy to make sure im in frame at all times
1:27 You can also use the top of a Key by the links to lock the screw down. If you don't have coins in your pocket.
Genius! Top of a key....thanks:)
Greetings!
brilliant video heres me thinking its about buying the best cam such a cool set up
Thanks a lot, Hayden! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
Credit where it's due keep it up man 🤜
:) Will do...
Not a believer of screw drivers? I noticed use of scissors and tweezers to turn a screw
I believe in screw drivers.....just don't own one.....but now I have a tiny one with about every bit imaginable.....:)
what do you do about the terrible battery life of the gopro ? can you add external battery pack and still use mic adapter ?
Hey, Francophoto! Yes you can. Here's the setup: ruclips.net/video/eAW_FD2ltOs/видео.html
Greetings!
Where can you get the cheese board mounts and the items for the phone mounts. I can’t seem to find them.
Bigger ones like these I mean: www.amazon.com/eBoot-Adjustable-Cable-Adhesive-Clamps/dp/B01LYO307S/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1520982120&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=eboot+cable+clamps&psc=1
Could put some tape around the end of the adapter to get the perfect fit.
Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
I will most definitely give this a shot, I feel it is worth it. I’ll update you when all is said, done, and tested. Again thanks for the great content, as well, thanks for the reply and advice, much appreciated. :-D
You*Re welcome, Joseph:)
Can you do one of the 5 session? It will be nice.
Hey, Mr. Nice Guy! Mh....I don*T know of a session cage that comes with two attachments for a coldshoe, so I would have to come up with some solution for the phone mount...I will think about it.....
This has been the best killer setup - all in one for the GOPro.
Cool! Love to hear that:)
this is a cool setup but very impractical. kudos on the effort though...it looks fun to assemble. the best setup is simply a Panasonic FZ300 with the awesome 600MM reach.
Thanks for the nice comment:)
AUdio quality is fine, but the deadcat will show up on screen, if you mount it directly to a coldshoe on the cage.
TubeNoob thanks so much for taking the time to reply 👍
@@MaliDaviesPhotography No problemo!
Man you have a killer thumbnail! I have clicked just because of how beautiful it is
Thanks, We Talk UAV! Love to hear that:) Greetings!
We Talk UAV I agree
wow!.........I already have a gp5 and the case now, I am going get the audio adapter, mic and complete by vblog setup!
Hey, carl marcelin! Cool. It really is a handy device to vlog...super hassle free recording. Greetings!
I wonder if this setup works for the GoPro 6? It is identical with the 5 so i see no problem...
Hey, Henrik! It does, they have the same dimensions. No problem what so ever:)
Thanks, Flixid A! Much appreciate the nice comment:) I have to get me a gimbal some time soon...:) Greetings!
can you make a video on how to pack up this setup
Like what bag to use? I would simply use one of these if I didn't want to carry it around assembled: www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Carrying-Case-GoPro-Small/dp/B00PMMBBSG/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1545680140&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=gopro+carrying+case&psc=1
I used one of those for some time. That would also work:
www.amazon.com/Evecase-Digital-Professional-Shoulder-Mirrorless/dp/B074KPJXR7/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1545680308&sr=8-6&keywords=camera+bag+small
Did I understand the question correctly?

Hi there can you do one setup for gopro hero 5/6 but this time with a gimbal
Hey, James Senora! I get asked that a lot......I am looking into that, but can*t afford a gimbal right now.....I am thinkng about a setup using the crane m from zhiyun.....I don*T know of a dedicated gopro gimbal that will work with the gopro cage.....ut I am looking into a setup like that.....
I love how clean you always keep your setups and the descriptions are perfect. Nice job!
Thanks very much racerxmccoy! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
Is this set up can be mount also to a handy tripod?
Hey, PapaRussel! As long as the tripod comes with a quarter inch screw, or a quick release plate that has a quarter inch screw, it will work, because you can screw it right into the bottom of the cage. Greetings!
Is the camera quick release, that you apply to the bottom, part of the tripod setup or is it an optional purchase.
Love the video and have set up my gopro just like this. Thanks for the instructions!
Also, which tripod would you recommend? My GoPro tripod isn't hearty enough.
Hey, Dave Cupp! Thanks for the nice comment:) Much appreciated! The plate came with my gorillapod focus.
If the gorillapod focus is too expensive, the SLR version with the koolehoada E2 ballhead is in my opinion a very good option as well. It is certainly sturdy enough for the weight! Hope that helps you out a little.
Nice video, what is the point in the mobile phone being mounted on the side?
It is used with the gopro app to provide a selfy screen. Greetings!
This is the cleanest GoPro vlogging setup i've seen so far. Nice!
Thanks very much ItsKapow! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
Can you do a vlogging set up with a note 9 and a gimbel? Thanks
Yes, might be some time before I get around to do it though....until then...it would probably look somewhat like these:

update: ruclips.net/video/QLsU6iIomUo/видео.html
Hope that helps you out a little in the meantime. Greetings!
good video ...but did you have to drop that casey neistat move ?
Thanks:) What move?
Very concise...love how you did this video
Hey, Joe Davis! Much appreciate the nice comment! Greetings!
How much does this cost altogether and the total weight of the setup? Looks cool!
For example: ruclips.net/video/q88p4CdchmI/видео.html
A5100 has overheating issues.
Greetings!
TubeNoob thank you I will definitely look into the Canon SL2. For an external mic what would be some options for a great price?
You could use a small monitor like this one
www.amazon.com/Feelworld-1920x1080-Brightness-Ultra-Thin-Ultra-Light/dp/B07BKX4QTP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1526663772&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=feelworld+f6&psc=1
and place the mic on the monitor mount, so the monitor can sit on top of the cage. But this option is a little too big for vlogging I would think.
Hope that still helps you out a little. Greetings!
Thank you. That’s a great help I’ll let you know the updates.

Is there a way to make the quick release plate one that has the classic gopro attachment to use with gopro branded tripods? Do you think it would work?

Which mic would you recomend that has the least amount of noise?
I am still a big fan of the ETM 008, it does better with noise. But will upload a video of a direct comparison between the ETM 008 and the iGoMicMiniShotgun on the weekend if you're interested. Greetings!
Tube Noob. Setup is great. i just got the parts and put it all together. lightweight and works great. another tool in the arsenal. Thanks
You*Re welcome:) Love to hear that!
A ballhead like this for example: www.amazon.com/Pergear-Photography-Camera-Rotation-Ballhead/dp/B00MGJH5U6/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515285139&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=ballhead+kooleaho
What is that liquid svivel thing? Can you send me a link to a product?
You have a set up for the 8 yet, it’s a different size than the others, thx
It is?? Damn....no I donÄt have one. But I would probably just change the cage then...
That’s a serious GoPro rig right there. Cool stuff.
Oh captain, my captain!:) Thanks, man!
Brilliant! Love the placement of the enormous mic adaptor!
Thanks a lot! love to hear that:)
excellent vid, can you tell me the cost of this set up and where to buy it..thanks
Thank you, dan james! Cost depends on what parts you need and what deals you get. The easiest way is to use the geo-targeted affiliate links in the video description. They should redirect you to the individual item on your local amazon page. Then place what you need in the cart and it will add up the cost exactly.

TubeNoob I'm in the U.S... The store is Camvate...
The camvate ones should work just fine.....why should there be a problem if the screws fit? Can you send me a link, so I know exactly what you're referring to?
I like your presentation. If you have a Karma stick I would be interested in your take on the gimbal. For myself, the Black 5 is a superb camera.
Thank you, Delta Mike! Don't have a Karma Stick, sorry:)
I have a question again i have a joby Gorillapod kit 3K how can we fix it on the camvate plate ? must a buy another piece ? Thanx again
No, the quick release plate of your ballhead screws into the camvate base plate directly, then you can attach the ballhead/gorillapod:) Greetings!
Nice video.
One question plz. Are you dismantling each time you need to swap out a battery?
Yes, you have to disconnect the audio adapter and take the gopro out of the cage.
Mh....yeah that can be a problem, if it's hard to get stuff, have to be creative and or patient I guess....what is the tv show going to be about?
can you take out your gopro from the vlogging setup so if you are going to ski u can take out your gopro from the setup
Hey, Magnus! Yes, that'S the idea. Once you*re done with the action, put it into this setup and start vlogging. Greetings!
If you can't find the right cold shoe mount, you could use a combo like this...

awesome, but how do you flip the screen view in a selfie mode?
I*m not sure I know what you mean....if auto rotation on your smartphone is enabled the live view image on the phone will flip on its own...did I misunderstand you?
@@Mark10ProVideo Yes, my problem is if I vlog with the gopro the image in my iPhone is not a mirror is flipped, I am going to try to figure it out, thanks for your answer!
Ah, ok, so you have to figure out how to turn on auto rotation and that should solve your problem:) No problemo:) Always happy to help! Greetings!
So the gopro is able to provide a video feed to the phone via Bluetooth, WiFi, or cable? Won’t that reduce battery life?
It will. But that's the price for a video out signal over wifi.
Does the phone hook up to the GoPro in order to do a live stream?
No....sorry...it doesn't.....I tried to come up with a solution for that, but haven*t figured out a budget way yet how to translate the hdmi signal to a usb compatible signal that the phone will take on via OTG support.
I am working on that though...sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. Greetings!
i like your gopro set up. may i know what your gorilla pod is? thank you.
Thanks, Antazo Moverz! That one is the Gorillapod Focus. I use it mainly for heavier cameras. The SLR with a 3rd party ballhead like the Koolehoada E1 or E2 will do just fine for this setup and is less expensive. Just as an info. Greetings!
i like your channel and kindness. you earn my sub. thanks :)
Much appreciate the support:)! You're very welcome!
You're very welcome, Sho Ent! Have a wonderful day as well!
Thanks for the nice comment:)
You could use a joby gorillapod SLR and this ballhead, which is super strong, but relatively light weight:
www.amazon.com/koolehaoda-Tripod-Ballhead-Release-Maximum/dp/B0711YWMK8/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1524521518&sr=8-7&keywords=koolehaoda+ball+head
Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
TubeNoob thanks from ITALY 🇮🇹!!!
You're very welcome:)
if you like when I will finished my own setup i will send you a picture!! i decided to follow your purchase advice!!!
Of course! I would love to see it!:)
Cool! You will be pretty happy I think. Greetings!
Tubenoob...is this mic better than the rode videomicro?? Thanks in advance from Holland !!
Greetings!
Can you also configure this to have the screen on top and the mic on the side? Feels a bit more intuitive that way.
Hey, Keith Cortez! Yes, I did that with the mark I: ruclips.net/video/1prlXtkgEbo/видео.html
You could use the MARK II setup as a base and use the mic and screen configuration from the MARK I.
Ah, another one from ULANZI...cool.....I love the ULANZI IRON MAN II...by far my favourite mount....awesome! Thanks a lot for the support!
Cool! Love to hear that:)
how to use your mobile phone as an external monitor with gopro hero 11, what connectors and cables, apps are required?
pls make a video on this topic.
pretty nice setup. Would love to see you do something similar with Sony AS300 action camera.
Great set-up for the GoPro, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the nice comment, Michael Hayes! Much appreciated:)
Yes sir! I have also subscribed and hit the notification bell to keep up to date on your future videos. Thanks again!
Awesome! Thanks for the support, Michael:) Many Greetings!
Great video! Will that phone clamp work if one used double-sided low-profile tape (as shown in your Samsung Galaxy S7 vlogging setup) to attach a power bank to the phone? Thanks.
Thanks a lot, Brian Guthrie! No, that won't work, there's not enough space for that between the glif and the phone to put a powerbank there....
since the GoPro has a HDMI input, can you somehow connect your phone to the camera for bigger screen, and high speed feedback? I don't like how the app is delayed
Hey, C.R.U Media! I think it might be possible to translate the hdmi signal to a usb signal via an expensive dongle and use a usb camera app to display the signal....haven't tried that yet, because the cheapest dongle I could find was still around 150 bucks. it is one of those you would use to hook up any camera with hdmi to a pc to stream or record the screen....I have looked into a cheap hack, but couldn't pull that off yet.....
I’ve watched several of your videos, you are one smart dude.
Thanks, Gregory! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
How can I submit to you an idea without posting it in the comment section?
Tubenoob, where did the quick release plate come from? Does it come with the Jobi tripod? I didn't see a link for it in your description.
It comes with the gorillapod focus, or more specifically with the "ballhead x" on top if it:)
All prices are approximations:
Mic 100
Audio adapter 60
Cage 20
GLIF grip 40
base cheese plate 25
mini ballhead 8
cold shoe mount 5
somewhere in the neighbourhood of 250 I think...also excluding the smartphone and assuming new parts.
Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Just awesome!! you're great man..just amazingly creative and helpful videos...you deserve an award....
Thank you:) Love to hear that, Max LLoren!
Except if you put a ballhead on it:
www.amazon.com/Lammcou-Durable-Flexible-Smartphone-Samsung/dp/B073N9687P/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516488394&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Tripod+Staive+Lammcou®+3+in+1+Camera+Tripod+Mini+Tripod+Mobile+Phone+Camera+Sports+Camera+Flexible+Tripod+Light+Universal+Durable+Octopus+Gorilla+Pod+Monopod+for+Nikon+Canon+Pentax+Sony+Camera%2FCamcorder+Stand+%2B+iPhone+SAMSUNG+Huawei+Sony+%2B+GoPro+Action+Camera+Tripod
If you want to go with the gorillapod SLR, I would buy tripod and ballhead separately and go with a 3rd party ballhead. The koolehaoda E1 is a very good ballhead with a reasonable price. If you want to use heavier cameras just check out the E2 or E3
www.amazon.com/koolehaoda-Tripod-Ballhead-Release-Maximum/dp/B0711YWMK8/ref=sr_1_sc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1516488244&sr=8-2-spell&keywords=Kooleh+AODA+Tripod+Ball+Head
They all connect pretty much the same way.
Thanks mate
You're very welcome, Thalia! Thanks for the support:)
Where did you get the wooden headphones 🎧 holder ?
Hey, Abel Casanova! I got that from amazon. Search this: SAMDI Gaming Headphone Stand Wooden Headest Hanger/Holder/Mount Omega Walnut Finish
Greetings!
How Do You Get The Video Feed From The GoPro To The iPhone As A Selfie Screen?
Connect it through the Gopro app
Hey, Bighamza22! Check out this one: ruclips.net/video/TVlI3Plq99E/видео.html
Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
:) Thank you my man.
Thanks bro.
How do you stream on the go pro and how would you see your stream on the phone
I don't know of a way to stream with a gopro over the phone yet, but I am working on that....
Can you do a rig like this, where the setup can be used on a gimbal?
Phew.....you would have to put the phone on the gimbal and use a smaller mic I suppose....like the one I used in the MARK I version.....but the Base of the MARK II version.....then a medium sized gimbal that is intended for mirrorless cameras.....I think it can be done.....give me like two to three weeks to produce the video, but I think that is how I would do it....
Will this application work for a go pro seven silver?
To my knowledge the silver doesn't have an option for an external mic.....
de.gopro.com/help/articles/block/compare-cameras
The GoPro App remote control should work though. Greetings!
Thanks
What quick release are you using that attaches your camera to your tripod?
That is the ballhead x that came with my joby gorillapod. The QR plate comes with the ballhead, respectively the gorillapod.
Cheese plate came in and YES this is the best answer. Thanks again
@@dronezinthesky No problemo:)
Love your GoPro Vlog set ups really nice 👍
Thanks a lot, Bruz Intrepid! Mich appreciate the nice comment:)
What are the settings you use for your gopro?
Check this out:): ruclips.net/video/NbYy0yOztzs/видео.html
Hope that helps you out. Greetings!
Best GoPro set up out! Thanks for making this!
Thanks for the nice comment, Francisco C! You*re very welcome:)
Once again another creative way of putting together a rig for GoPro. Good stuff
Thanks, guys:) Where're you two off to next?
TubeNoob - We are off to Canada. Actually just landed in Canada 🇨🇦
Did you get a chance to check out our tribute to NZ video called -
Goodbye New Zealand, Hello New Adventures - ruclips.net/video/82a7E8GiZ00/видео.html
Check it out and leave us a comment on the video with your feedback of what you think. You get little glimpses of NZ all through out the video 😊👍
Nice vid! Did you do already a vid about this rig AND a stabilizer !? Could be great!
Hey, DSLRavecDave! Thanks a lot:)
I will make the MARK III a gimbal setup....working on it...:) Greetings!
TubeNoob thx ! Gonna buy a gimbal anyway. Looking forward to your mark 3 !
whats the deal with your iphone5s home button ?
Hey, Tech at Ultimate! Oh there's just a little sticker on there that came with the screen protector and looked nice, so I put it on there....
i would like the link to the quick release adapter under the cheese plate
That's the newest iteration of the ballhead I used: QUICK RELEASE BALLHEAD: geni.us/DVfAA9m
Best regards
Mark
Hi I have a Go pro hero 5
And I cant afford to Run out and Buy a G7X
So I Have a question, I am wanting to make a Vlogging set up
And I Have Seem a Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 for sale used for $100
My question is this camera has wifi ability
So would it Be perfect to use as a selfie screen ?
I believe you could go to the Gopro app with it , so it seems like it may be the perfect option for a selfie screen.
Am I right ?
I don'T know whether you can use the camera as a screen...why not just use a smartphone?
This is a great video! Straight to the point and easy to follow.
Thanks, Jabal Torres! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
Do you think I could use my hero 4 for that?
Hey, Jucileia Klaus! If you find a case that fits the hero 4. Something like this:
www.amazon.com/Neewer-Skeleton-Protective-Filter-Camera/dp/B00XVUUZGK/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1520368159&sr=8-13&keywords=gopro+hero+4+metal+case
And use the hero 4 audio adapter or something like it:
www.amazon.com/Fantaseal-Microphone-Converter-Anti-Interference-Reduction/dp/B01MF9AYK7/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1520368214&sr=1-3&keywords=gopro+hero+4+audio+adapter
Technically.... then it should work, yes. You can skip the base plate of course....
Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Thanks for the sharing,
When you see Mobile monitor your view is different from the v-log .. am I right or not ?
DAMBBB NICE SET UP....WERE DO I GET THEM PART'S??????WOULD ENJOY MY GO PRO WITH THEM GADGET'S ON IT I DO A LOT OF KAYAKING AND WOULD ENJOY TAPING MY TRIPS ON THAT WAY....
All the parts are linked in the description. Greetings and happy kayaking!
3 seconds is bad......:)
Greetings!
I want to try this setup on the front of my kayak while I'm fishing minus the selfie screen. I'd like to get better audio while I'm kayak fishing, so I can explain what I'm doing on the water. This might be a viable option. Do think it could work for me?
Yes, I think so. Also think about using a lavalier mic attached to your jacket collar maybe. That could also be a good option! Greetings!
I’m currently building my set up this was super helpful
Love to hear that! Thanks a lot, Determined Veteran!:)
What camera do you use for your videos? at the start ;)
Hey, Simon Hayter! The intros are shot with my S7 Edge phone. I have recently switched to the S8+, but just because of the mhl support. I mostly use smartphones when I am in my little studio. Greetings!
That's great, you must have some really good 'lighting' lightboxes? or just really high lumen bulbs?
Yes, I have 16000 lumen studio soft boxes, two of them actually:)
Hi m8, excellent! LED or Bulbs? know the colour temp?
TubeNoob Thank you so much. Do you agree DLSL cameras are not the way to go for RUclips videos...on the move?
