MN v. Derek Chauvin Trial Day 3 - Christopher Martin - Cup Foods Employee, Christopher Belfrey

- Опубликовано: 30 мар 2021
- As seen on footage, the defendant kneeled on the victim’s neck for minutes during a fateful arrest on May 25, 2020, while co-defendants Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng were on the man’s back and legs. Floyd, who was handcuffed behind his back, was face down in the street, saying he could not breathe. He called out for his late mother. Angry bystanders demanded Chauvin remove the knee. Floyd became unresponsive. Authorities carried his limp body onto a stretcher.

He wanted to make sure his mom was safe first and foremost. Mad respect for this young man.
The Cups employee was a good witness. AND he called his mom to be sure she didn’t somehow get caught up in this thing. She’s raising a good young man and should be proud.
Managers always sending someone else to do the dirty work..
I swear they do
He should have not sent him out there to confront him. Over a pack of cigs...
@ralinem.8950 The manager should have gone out themself. Cigarettes cost about $15 per pack, though, and there's a reason retail workers try to prevent shoplifting (I know from experience). You should be angry at the police, not the manager.
Great witness! I feel bad for him holding this sense of guilt.
He is so caring he wanted to make sure his mother didn't see this happening.
I can’t imagine the guilt he must have/still feels when all he did was doing his job responsibly and respectfully. There are many victims here. Christopher seems like a fine young man and a fine witness. His mother, friends and family should be proud. 💔
God bless this young man for showing up and recalling the events as he remembered.
What a lovely boy his mum should be proud I feel so bad for him
This young man sees this going down and is most worried that his mama might see something that would upset her. That is a good kid there. Don't judge a person by their color or socioeconomic status. Judge them by their character.
It sure is
I've never judged a person by the colour, like you I believe its the person ,what colour has to do with it I don't understand and never will the thing that terrifies me is if we can't trust the law then we are all in big trouble
Very polite and respectful kid!!!
@@selenasmith7732 Makes me wish Knight Rider was a reality ".....from criminals who operate above the law..."
He understood the socioeconomic issues in the community so he offered to pay. It seems he didn't want the situation to go any further. He must feel so guilty traumatised by the incident.
What a lovely young man. Calling his mom, to make sure she didn't come downstairs, was so thoughtful. She raised him well. What he witnessed that day was traumatic. Surely the store has a device for checking the validity of banknotes. It should not be left to the staff because some counterfeit notes are of excellent quality.
Some bills seem to be counterfeit but are actually good. I had a hundred dollar bill that I was told was "iffy" It was likely good the vendor told me, but he couldn't accept it. I'm just glad a cop didn't decide it was a good enough excuse to assault me.
No one knows if it was counterfeit. Suspiciously, the police are still holding in their property for no one to see.
Wow what a great witness Christopher Martin was. So articulate and calm. I can't believe they dock the employees pay if they accept counterfeit bills, I don't even think that is legal.
It’s not legal
And send young teens out to confront the person that passed the $20. Seems dangerous. They should have just called the police. Cashiers aren't even allowed to stop a shoplifter at the big companies.
Yes it’s legal. The NYT quoted a woman in the store with Floyd when this happened as saying “it was an obvious fake. The ink was still running”
I think the state is missing key questions and redirect. Did anyone else see in the videos that the passenger in the car with GF came in and handed him money before purchasing the cigarettes? That interaction looked as if (speculation of course) that GF checked his pockets, counted money and spoke with the passenger asking maybe for some money which he did give him later. It is plausable that GF did not know his passenger gave him a counterfeit bill. Which could be while in the car, he was saying are you for real dude - not to the clerk but to the passenger for giving it to him. Why is the state not digging into this portion more?
@@a9029k Please provide a legal statute reference as to how and when it's legal to dock an employees pay in Minnesota when a cashier accepts a fake bill.
I truly wish this brave young man the very best.
Me too! My heart goes out to him.
young Mr Martin did a Very Good job with his testimony which appeared to be quite a emotional time for him !!
The “manager” at Cup Foods is a terrible boss. If an employee unwittingly takes a counterfeit bill, it comes out of their paycheck?! AND worst of all he sends his employees out to face a stranger w/an accusation. Most retailers terminate employees who go after customers. The manager should be fired. He started this whole situation over $20. for which t/employee repeatedly offered to pay
I thought the exact same thing! They could of been killed all for a $20 bull. No reason to teenagers in that danger! That dang manager should’ve gone out there himself. Infuriates me! I’m a momma and one dead or hurt teenager is not anything to be taken lightly. That manager is WORTHLESS!
exactly
In ma it’s illegal for employer to dock pay checks for fakes or short drawer
@@cindyhaas8516 the manager wasn’t their in interviews the boss said he wouldn’t have called cops
Blame everyone except the person who tried to use the fake 20 right
Wtf is Chauvin doing, he’s just pretending to write things down, he’s so pathetic
Lesley, serious question, Do you actual know he is pretending?
Its better to write notes and show your attorney than constantly whispering in your attorney's ear.
If you watch trials, you’ll see most defendants write notes throughout their trial. It’s common.
In this trial, is that what concern you the most? He's obviously taking notes. That's what all cops do, they write reports.
@@valeriebelieveintheruleofl8038 👍
My heart goes out to this young man. How difficult it must be for him and all the witnesses watching the murder, knowing there was not one thing they could do to change the outcome.
Did he witness the murder? I thought he was inside for all or most of the time of the killing.
It’s sad when a few teenagers handle a situation better than law enforcement.
This is a good witness.
All these witnessing will need therapy. So sad!!!
God Bless you young man! Im so proud one queen raised you! Such a great mother! God bless you and your mother.
Chauvins expressions and the look in his eyes are honestly so aggravating and triggering.
This seems more like a you problem.
And he gets to keep his mask on at court ...
@@DUBLINMUG to be fair, so does the judge and he isnt speaking or being asked anything.
Good witness.
Both Chris Martin and Geneveive Hansen have been such EXCELLENT witness, I am so proud and impressed with them. Thank you so much for all the emotional labor it took to testify. I wish I could thank all the witness personally. Thank you.
Finally figured out what chauvin is writing on his notepad....the time stamps for every video they play.
Lol I was wondering that too
I wondered that too and I'm sure he's reliving the scenario over and over like the rest of us although he's not feeling guilt, remorse, helplessness his hands look itchy like a murderer he straight murdered George and murdered the future of all the witnesses who will never forget what they had to see and he LITERALLY enjoyed it it's sick to think the rush of gratification he got from doing it. Make him an example and toss away the key, take his badge he is not who should be "protecting and serving " the public and the people he arrests he is not judge AND executioner.
What shocks me more than anything, in the video part, is that whole time before the police arrived, why didn't George and his friends just drive away? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Sad 20.00 for a life.
That witness seems like a decent well mannered guy. I’d give him a job in a better place than that store where he has to go outside and confront people about fake bills. (Edited for spelling)
33:00 when he says he didn't feel safe, I need a detailed explanation.
I feel bad for this young man.
51:20 Something doesn’t smell right in the chitterlings.
Very intelligent young man. Good for him for having the courage to come forward and give his honest testimony of what a curd in the store. This man restored my faith for the future. All you young kids take notice this man is a true roll model. This all could have ended if Floyd would have just made good on the 20 and not only once but twice Floyd could have done the right thing and have been on his way.
....or coulda just left! But hey, a lot of people made some bad choices that day. And I must say, GF's choices were faaaaaaaaar from the worst decisions made that day.
@@heatherbuckenmeyer9304Now that you say that I'm not sure why he didn't leave think about it if someone knowingly commits a crime they would take off. I honestly don't think Floyd knew the 20 was a fake but I'll bet the guy with him did. I re watched the video from inside the store it looks like the dude with the red pants handed something to Floyd. 🤷♂️
Intelligent????I don't blame this kid but he definitely not the sharpest tool in a draw.Taking the fake bill by thinking he will do a favour to a man and after reporting to manager??? Mmmmm ....clever. But everything is irrelevant cause George Floyd was already dieing at this point .Kid u saved innocent peoples lifes cause that druggie was sitting in a drivers seat.
The most credible witness of the entire trial.
This kid is awesome!!! I wish he was my friend!!
Are they made to say “correct” instead of “yes”
People in Minnysotow love to respond "correct" .
Correct
I wonder if George Floyd's family knows how many people are praying for them and for justice for him ♡
Aww he offered to just pay it….what a good young man! He didn’t want anything bad to happen to anyone! Then telling his mom not to come down! This boy was raised right!
Am I the only one distracted by the hand of (what I assume is ) the stenographer in the video the whole time?? The way this is filmed, it makes me constantly (and perhaps subconsciously) think Christopher Martin is nervously fidgeting his right hand.... Very bad angle!!! (IMHO)
Correct
They walk out like they tuff over $20!!!
He’s calm . For sure plays basketball 🏀
The word correct has lost all meaning to the now.
Does Nelson play the pink oboe?
I’m surprised in the video that the subjects stayed in their car after being spoken to twice. One would think they would leave in their car after being approached the first time.
I've never seen a court that basically allows the prosecution to orchestrate a narrative while the witness on the stand gave a one word response. It's more like the prosecution is doing the largest share of delivering testimony, with the actual eyewitness agreeing affirmative to the narrative. I guess "leading" statements are allowed in Mn.
Not supposed to, I've been in court many times here (for work I should add) and never seen them do this kind of "testimony" they should be asking real questions. I'm wondering if the first couple of witnesses going on and on and on answering more than they were asked planted this kind of questioning but idk
Why isn't the defense objecting?
@@promise372 I would say so especially since the judge so rudely reprimanded the firefighter/emt for giving more than a yes or no answer. I've been in different courtrooms and sometimes there is questions and actual answering, but sometimes the attorneys basically read from the testimony given at pre trial and the witnesses are only allowed to reply with short answers.
@@heatherbuckenmeyer9304 I think cuz the state is "opening doors" for the defense to bring stuff in like drugs and ODs etc. I didn't get it until today when the girlfriend was testifying. I realized when it's the defense's turn having witnesses that the state will object to, they will be able to question because the state already laid the foundation to that line of questioning. Sorry if I'm not explaining myself well lol took a allergy med that has me sleepy. It will probably all make more sense when it's Mr Nelson's turn
@@momeme4630 yea I think the judge was at the point seeing a lot of feelings being presented as facts. In all honesty, and not to take sides, the off duty emt or firefighter (I think she was), would never be able to jump in. The cops did ask her if she had her credentials and she said "at home" anyone could say they were a firefighter. What if she wasn't and they let her jump in? Whatever she did , say with bad intentions (I know she was telling the truth but at the time they didn't know and I know she didn't have bad intentions but they can't be sure at the time) they just can't let bystanders jump into an arrest regardless. Ambulance was on its way and this wasn't like all bystanders and no police etc where you would have to jump in. Hide sight is always 20/20 but they have policy. Again I hope I made sense
Being to scared to film what he saw some times when i see this they need to replace police with some else
Lol he took that literal... "may 25th 2020 is that where you lived?" no I don't live in May 25th 2020, I don't even know where that is, sir.
Wow
I hate to say it, but.............ANOTHER horrible tie from the defense! "This is going on TV, you said?"
Has anyone else wondered why Chauvin gets to listen in on sidebars? I have never seen a defendant be able to do this before
😮
Yes..sp wrong I have never seen that happen before?? WTH🤯
The sidebar is so the jury can't hear. The defendant has a right to hear it all, they usually just can't because the lawyers will walk up to the bench. With the headphones, I guess Chauvin gets to listen in.

Impressive this kid. He handled the boondoggle of irrelevant trip up questions like a pro. Should only say yes no correct or I don't recall. He tripped up only once by saying Floyd was high tho. :( Never ever ever continue with details.
@@rubberchix because had he answered yes or no....provided no further details......then he's not swaying the jury. Typically the prosecutors and defense teams word the details. Therefore, sway the jury!
@@rubberchix fully agree!
what a POS defense attorney trying to imply the kid is at fault for letting GF leave to store. This is the officers fault for the choices they made.
We still havent found out if this was a fake bill ??? Evidence???
It is becoming pretty clear that the witnesses refuse to say anything that is even a teeny tiny bit puts Floyd in a bad light. Don't get me wrong I don't blame em. But for example, the cashier remembers everything the other person with Floyd had done but in response to Floyd's actions.. "I do not recall"
Funny that folks in Minneapolis when asked a Yes/No question, can only say "correct." It's like they've never heard of the word, "Yes."
this is what we are discussing?
Correct means "I agree", "Yes", "You are accurate w/ your assumptions." Therefore, any of these responses are appropriate when conversing in English. 👀🙄😐
I don't think it's a minnesota thing. I could be wrong but I'm here in Minneapolis and I don't know one person that answers using "correct" but I think I'm going to start using that instead of yes ... To see what people say

Idk this whole thing was so atrocious
I’ve watched these videos so many times and each time, I feel sickened by what I see. They create a sense of helplessness to change the outcome. It always ends with the murder of Mr. Floyd.
It's weird seeing so many people out in public without masks. Or am I trippin'!?

Nah. She was karen. Snotty eye rolling Karen.
Yes or no answers are preferred. She was letting emotion talk. Which is fine but not on the stand. It sucks but it is the way it is
I disagree. Her attitude needed to be adjusted. His delivery was flawless.
Disrespect? It's his court! He makes the rules. She continued to talk back to him before he was even finished. She disrespected him
They deleted the cell phone audio bc Mr. belfry and his fiancee were talking about mr Kirby's (according to Nancy Pelosi) strange and erratic behavior !

The drugs have nothing to do with this
They sure don't have a very good manager. Didn't want to deal with it. He should have went out and spoke to Floyd himself instead of having the kids deal this that could have put them in harm's way. And he carries gun, what a loser. Couldn't even pick up the phone to call the police. I feel bad for those kids.
Where’s the officer that was pushing people!! He was guarding chauvin! He j ew exactly what was happening and was trying to stop people from getting a camera view!
So why did this store clerk tell his manager after George left the store ? If he knew it was fake and decided to take it, why after George leaves does he tell. I don’t buy he was going to just pay it from his pay, I think he was afraid to say no to George. It doesn’t make sense. I can understand with all that’s gone on since, him having fear.
Lol. Does it Even matter?!!!??? MurdeReR is the freak in tgere. THAT IS WHAT MATTERS AND NOTTA ELSE
No he wasn't. Watch the testimony. Floyd was friendly and engaging in conversation with people. We'll never know if he even knew the bill was counterfeit because the murdering cop decided he would be the judge and jury and then provide the punishment. He's a cold blooded murder and should be charged with murder.
@American Avenger , that doesn't even make sense what you said about the clerk being intimidated or regarding store policy. If that were the case, why would the manager send this kid not once but TWICE to leave the store, cross a busy two-way street to approach Floyd and friend about it? If the kid was scared of Floyd, he is going to leave the safety of being behind the counter inside the store to confront the scary huge dude OUTSIDE of the store? Chauvin is a murderer.
Lynn, you are making up stuff. If this kid was so scared, he is going to leave the safety of the store to confront Floyd not once but TWICE outside of the store? 🙄
Let's pretend we live in a fairy tale and everybody is naive and innocent. If you did nothing wrong, why resist?
They should have immediately called the police those kids at anytime could have been shot and at worst killed come on people use your heads!!!!
Here we go. Even if he gave them a fake 20 when did that becomes a death sentence. Also I hate to say this but only people that think the cop wasn’t wrong likes this kid. And you know the real reason.
@t Floyd was asked to get into the squad car, however the rear seatbelts were attached and in the way, preventing him from entering the vehicle safely. The seatbelts were not unlatched until, they Cops decided to pull him through the vehicle from the other side of the vehicle, and throw him on the ground. So not only was he claustrophobic but his right of way to enter the vehicle was impeded. These seatbelts should also have had to have been unlatched prior to asking him to enter the vehicle cuffed. Had he entered the vehicle without the rear seatbelts being unlatched this also could have put him at further risk to his health. What if he got tangled up in those seatbelts while handcuffed??? it could also have been very very detrimental to his predicament.
