Have a paraffin candle on hand and rub it along the bar as soon as it comes out of the row so that the heat melts the wax and the next pass through the hole will be smoother.
Can you imagine the first madlad who got it into his head to make entire pieces of armor out of interlocking drawn wire like this? The dedication is surreal.
I think you and the awesome dude over at bigstackd would make the best of buddies lol. Together you could melt everything metallic on the planet and then melt the melter furnace.

My shoulders & hands were hurting in sympathy while you were pulling. And if it was impossible for you, OMG, I have nowhere near the strength you have as a smith and couldn't have done the first pull! That was fascinating, entertaining, and very educational. Great video, btw. Thanks.
I am wondering doesn't the pressure applied to the copper going through the wire gauges work harden the copper, if so then heating it up would have made it easier to work down to a smaller diameter.
I can remember as an apprentice we used to forge copper sledge hammer heads and the old style soldering iron heads. That taste of hot copper from the fumes , can still remember it now.
I like your wire stripper thats clever ...I hate stripping wire, especially the multistrand lightweight stuff....the knife constantly cuts through strands making it into a vicious hairball so I am going to try that way thanks for sharing Hand drawing copper looks horrible , I think I would have stuck with the roller for a while longer but I would be incredibly pleases with the wire you ended up with..I am feeling a need to try this now....maybe with the winch on my 16ft trailer lol
Rollers would work to draw the wire through dies. If you made an induction coil attachment + a quench you could anneal it very rapidly when it starts to work harden.
Great job Sir. As I was watching, I was thinking "You could get one of those ratchet strap things and pull it REAL hard...." And there you were! Haha! Great job. In the USA we call that a boat winch, or a boat trailer crank.... Heh heh heh!!! I'm slightly surprised it didn't just break your copper rod.... Seemed to work pretty good!!! Very nice.... The real question is..... what are you going to do with that copper rod????
People are really stupid on coments, black beard is doing this bcs his like, also want to show how the process is made, he dont want to sell copper rods lol. 🙄🙄

Not sure if you know this but you can buy copper rod like that for 2$ per foot.
You should have told me sooner! 😭🤦♂️

Because he can. And he made a video doing it. And you watched the video. And you commented on the video. Money in his pocket!
I'd've still watched it had he hooked up an impact wrench to that ratchet.
Copper really is an incredible material.
Agree!
Great job!

Excelente vídeo, y excelente solución!.
Copper work hardens quickly, annealing the rod multiple times during the process might have made it easier. That being said, I loved your innovation!

So, does quenching the copper after you anneal give you a better annealing than letting it air cool or cool in vermiculite?
It doesn’t matter how you cool copper, it’s the heating that anneals it’s. The only way to harden copper is by work hardening.
@@sjv6598I thought it was brass that you work hardened. Not copper I'm probably wrong thought.

That’s a lot of time and effort for £2.50 worth of copper rod.
Obviously Not done for the price…
@@rickyseddon4786 obviously. That doesn’t take anything away from my original statement.
@@sjv6598 Did you read the description?
Seems someone hasn't bought anything made of copper in a while
10 € per kg and it is at its maximum, so it is not much of a value… but gipsy still enjoy the stealing even of the gutters
