When my wife and i were dating back in the fall of 2004. We sat at her parents house and watched this one day. It was instantly my favorite of all time. Well not instantly...its a long movie. But the whole way through i was just glued to the TV. I grew up watching Westerns with my grandpa, in my early years sitting on his lap and watching them. Eastwood, and Wayne were my heros as a young boy. Lol.."biscuts and whores" as Augustus would say...good day boys and girls and thank you for what you do with these videos sir!! THANK YOU
I loved both of those characters. I cried when I first saw this part and I’m crying now … in sadness for Augustus’ death and in happiness seeing Woodrow’s loyalty to his friend. What great acting.
Never saw Lonesome Dove. But your short videos have peaked my interest. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones are two legends and two of my favorites. Guess I will have to anti up and buy this series.
I watched it on TV all of those years ago and I enjoy it even more now than I did then. It's a classic that only improves with age and I doubt that we'll ever see it's equal. Thanks for brightening my day.
It was just amazing how Robert Duvall brought Gus McRae to life. It made Larry McMurtry’s story so much more impactful and anchored all the other performances. Some other actors were right-on and some don’t quite hit the mark for anyone who started with the book, but, because they were playing off the perfect Gus, it was magical.
@@historymore442 I have read all of McMurty's novels on the Lonesome Dove Saga. Good stuff. I even watch Return to Lonesome Dove even tho it wasn't part of the authors books.
I was going to Virginia Tech when this first aired. My roommates had the sense to tape the entire series.Watched it so many times I had it memorized and I’ve still got it memorized even to this day
I indeed enjoyed this series. Many thanks. I forgot how powerful it is, and how wonderful the acting is. Two heavyweights at the peak of their talents find a way to make you forget the real world and feel like you're right there with them.
Hard to tell friends that never saw it. How good it really was, i would rewatch it but have entire movie in my head. Never be topped Thank u so much from East Texas
The tv series was one of the few adaptations that was worthy of the novel it was based on. The McMurtry novel was by far and away the best Western I have ever read, and I was sure the televised version wouldn't live up to it, but it did. And that because of Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall. They fitted their roles impossibly well, and are such great actors. What a book. What a series.
We have experienced this series many times and have owned it for many years. We just picked out a selection of movies to watch and Lonesome Dove is near the top.
This was one of the best American series to come to the U.K. It is still popular to this day - I have a copy of the book in my garage and will get it out and give it a read .Thank you for posting this .
I knew that there was a movie and it had just recently come out, but I stumbled upon the book and read the book before watching the movie. It was an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. It was the most mesmerizing experience of entertainment that I have ever had in my whole life. The book was a really good read and had all of the action, reality of the time and there was a great deal of humor and education of humanity in it's content. The movie was a complete transformation of the long story. It was truly a story come to life and the characters that were portrayed were truly as realistic as you could possibly accomplish. If you have seen the movie you should read the book, it gives you another chance to enjoy such a great and wonderful story. The best western novel and movie I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying.
I love both of these actors. They always portray men's men. Lonesome Dove was one of those mini series that you could get do lost in, when it was over, you felt like you'd lost a friend!
Anyone that likes Westerns and have not seen Lonesome Dove have in my opinion missed the best Western ever made. The only thing I disagreed with and if I had been Gus I'd never let Clare slip from my hand nor sight. She was without a doubt the most beautiful and desirable woman I've ever seen. Neither man nor beast could have ran me from Ogallala long as she was there. By God Id marry her myself if possible. As long as Clare was there , Id go no where I swear. ❤❤
Never tire of watching scenes from one of the greatest western series of all time! Robert Duvall is a national treasure. The chemistry between Duvall and Jones is hard to match. Thank you for reminding me of this classic
Playing someone who died in their performance means a lot. Duvall did a great job. But in my opinion the open range speech was even better. Or could have been the character he was playing, is what I loved. Thanks for more Jones and Duvall
Their is no other "Western" and I mean this. I read the book first, my older brother had sent it to me and then I read it again. It was so very good. I watched the show for the first time, went thru to many boxes of tissues. Bought the CD and listen to it while traveling on long trips. I still find my self watching this show. Couldn't tell you how many times, know most of the lines. But still, THE best ever "Western". That's the way it is.
Huge fan of this epic movie. One of my favorite scenes is Gus is pinned down by those idiot bandits in the middle of nowhere and one of em gets to dancing and Gus puts one in his gut. Nice shot Gus!!! 👌👌😂😂👌👌
If you haven't watched my other video called "Lonesome Dove 5 Classic Scenes" you might want to check it out. It has that scene in it. Thanks for viewing this video.
Thanks for sharing some of your favorites I haven't seen this movie for a few years but you've rekindled that spark this in my opinion is hands down the best story ever put to film
Robert Duvall is hands down an actor that brings reality to whatever movie or character he plays.I believe. He can sell me on any roll he plays. from the godfather.to the surfing officer in appoc Now.His body of work got even bigger after lonesome dove.all the westerns since. he was so freaking good in the latest movie, the judge.Robert downey jr.was also so fantastic. That was a verry well acted and complete movie. I would love to see him,and clint eastwood, live to be 110.I truly believe that this country is a better place because of them.He has a gift.He can for two hours at a time distract me. he is a true artist.
I watched this movie when it came out and it was the best western that I've ever seen, last father's day my daughter rang me and asked me what I wanted for father's day,i replied, the movie lonesome dove, she sent me,lonesome dove the ultimate collection, lonesome dove, return to lonesome dove,Comanche moon, deadmans walk and streets of Laredo,so I'm pretty stoked.
Watched this series when it came out and enjoyed it just as I loved the book. I really got to appreciate it living with my 90 something mom her last years. She and dad had a large collection of DVD and she had reached the age where she preferred rewatching old favorites to seeing the new new thing on HBO or Netflix. There really isn't a false line in the whole series.
Absolutely Robert Duvall had the honor of playing the greatest character in the history of theater and not only could anyone have done it better no one could have done it as well
I always mourn for more everytime I watch Lonesome Dove. I could never be happy with the return of LD..It wasn't the same without Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee, Danny Glover, Angelica Houston and Diane Lane..
My favorite movie...i have 2 dvd's ..one for home & i when i camp out somewhere...all actors did a great job from captain call to lippy....great film..tks
There were some classic scenes. Also there were some classic lines! Such as when Jake Spoon told Gus about the accidental killing he had committed. Jake said a clap board wall won’t stop a fifty caliber bullet and Gus said but a Dentist will!😳
Without a doubt one of the greatest westerns ever
I have watched this so many times. I can fall asleep, for a short nap. When I wake I know the next line, regardless of who is next to speak.
Lonesome Dove was, and forever will be be the best western of all time!
I agree Kevin.
That book/series was Amazing. Brought life to the prarie. Lonesome Dove is the reason I have a grandson named Augustus....
This is the best western ever made. The writing is superb and the acting is simply extraordinary. My favorite by a Texas mile. An american classic

Two truly excellent actors who were part of an excellent ensemble of excellent actors. The reason why it is still so highly regarded.
Yep Big Blue. Spot on as usual.
We are blessed to have these two fine actors during our lifetime.
I agree. Thanks for watching the video.
A CLASSIC TO BE SURE.
Of all the western movies made, Lonesome Dove is my favorite. Thanks for the clips.
I loved both of those characters. I cried when I first saw this part and I’m crying now … in sadness for Augustus’ death and in happiness seeing Woodrow’s loyalty to his friend. What great acting.
Duval , one of my favorite actors in westerns , a natural

Lonesome Dove IMO is the best Western ever made.
There are many people who agree with you Norbero, including me. Thanks for watching the video.
Yes, i agree. There are many good ones, but Lonesome Dove does really stand by its self.
I watched it on TV all of those years ago and I enjoy it even more now than I did then. It's a classic that only improves with age and I doubt that we'll ever see it's equal. Thanks for brightening my day.
Yeah Michael LD never gets old. Thanks for watching the video.

@@historymore442 I have read all of McMurty's novels on the Lonesome Dove Saga. Good stuff. I even watch Return to Lonesome Dove even tho it wasn't part of the authors books.
Have you ever thought about showing clips from the other 3 parts of the series?
The acting of Robert Duval & Tommy Lee Jones in Lonesome Dove is only rivaled by the performance of Val Kilmer in Tombstone.
All superb Jim. Thanks for watching.
Great movie, I felt like I knew Gus and Woodrow. It was sad to see Jake go, but he died very well.
I was going to Virginia Tech when this first aired. My roommates had the sense to tape the entire series.Watched it so many times I had it memorized and I’ve still got it memorized even to this day
Great story Robert. Thanks for watching the video and Go Hokies.

Yep Bill. I would strongly suggest to those who haven't seen LD to correct that mistake soon.
The tv series was one of the few adaptations that was worthy of the novel it was based on. The McMurtry novel was by far and away the best Western I have ever read, and I was sure the televised version wouldn't live up to it, but it did.

One of the greatest compliments I ever had from someone was when my son’s friends told me that I acted like Gus and Cal reminded him of his dad.
I have a friend who was one of the cameraman who filmed the last scene. Everyone on the set shed tears during the filming
