    Having ridden in the middle of nowhere in 6 feet snow and mud in a C303, it's a fantastic vehicle. It really goes anywhere.

      Not sure why it would have problems. The heating problems here are because they are too lazy to fix it. The one I was in got rode very hard with constant revving and no problems with overheating.

    Nice car. Where is the problem to drive it? Never driven a T3 Volkswagen Bus? Same drivers position. But this has a nice 6-cylinder-engine which was used in the 164-sedans as well. Cool sound and enough torque, I think. Unintelligible why the owners do not fix the car (cooling, seats etc.). Maybe they are nerds without understanding cars. Sad.

    • @kjelllindberg6987
      @kjelllindberg6987 3 года назад

      No, it is not if it is operating the way it should. It has an overpressure system. The most common issue is that somebody has used the windshield washer fluid cap to the coolant fluid. Then it will overheat and boil very easy. The civilian version had a bigger radiator.

  • @MrTomwinter
    @MrTomwinter 8 лет назад +1

    It is possible to put a new modern radiator and solve the cooling issue, I have done this on my 303 and in 32C it runs at 90C all day long.

      According to the other video the cooling fan is broken by cat-fan blade interaction.
      Besides, who knows when the system was completely flushed, there may be a bucketful of rust and shit constricting it.

    • @Audiojack_
      @Audiojack_ 8 лет назад

      I think there's something very much wrong with the cooling system on that.

    • @MrTomwinter
      @MrTomwinter 8 лет назад

      The Dakar trucks had different radiators, the standard rad has very little surface area so is no good in any heat at all. A new rad solves the cooling problem very easily with the standard engine.

    You're so overly careful with this "first time" stuff. OK, it may be because you're in America and standards aren't standard for you, but basically, this is just another manual shifting vehicle to drive. OK, it's bigger and the vision outside and behind sucks, but that's about the hardest thing about it. Hell, this thing isn't even fast or anything. I can only imagine how frightening it must be for you to drive something like a 911 Porsche with a manual gearbox...
    I mean, really, there isn't that much to it.

    Drive line questions:
    1- What are the L & H transmission positions? Sub-first gear gears? Are they in any way tied to the transfer case/center differential?
    2- 'Framhjuls Drift' - Apparently has something to do with front wheel drive (no explanation from the person in the clip). Is this a transfer case/center differential lock? Ie. rear-wheel drive in the open position, power to rear and front axle in the closed position?

    • @kjelllindberg6987
      @kjelllindberg6987 3 года назад +1

      You are selecting Low or High gear range. In low gear, the front-wheel-drive turns on without switching. But you can engage front-wheel drive with the switch in the high-gear range also. You can actually also select neither range also when using the transfer case PTO if that is implemented (for mechanical winch or fire hydrant pump or hydraulic pump).

    About the cooling. Check the exhaust so that it isn't constricted in any way, same for the air filter, thats the easy check. Then make sure you run it at 98 octane gas and the correct ignition advance (should be at ~ 10-12 degrees for standard config) adjust accordingly. Of course you should check that the mixture from the carbs are right, if too lean you will have overheatinging problems. If the sparkplugs have the same color as bricks you might have a mixture that is too lean.
    Use lead additives or change the valve seats to stainless steel. Could be useful to fill up the tank with 10 to 30% alcohol (ethanol!) or E85, if you don't have acess to 98 octane. You have to adjust the amount by +10% until it starts to loose power and the back off by 5% until it runs good again. My old Amazon runs very good, cool and clean on 50% E85 and 50% gas. The old volvo redblocks have no corrison problems with alcohol as the cast contains ample amounts of nickel. But you might have to change the oil more frequently.
    Use good quality antifreeze to protect the inside of the engine and to increase the boiling point of the water. And make sure that the heater is correctly hooked up to the engine so that it have good circulation at the back of the cylinder head. Common problem when the heater adjustment valve have been damged and replaced with a simple valve.
    Good luck and good fun.

    • @dodecahedron1
