Seems like the glossy undercoat allows you some freedom to angle it away from recesses without killing the effect even if you miss some underneath parts, as well
Does the shifter paint have to be applied with an Airbrush? Would thin enough coats work with a brush, and would you need a special paint thinner rather than water?

@@markusfrombgen2967 Amen, the amount of youtubers that announce on youtube things for Facebook/Instagram when some people don't use them is so strange.
It's been my experience that Vallejo Airbrush paints work really well as brush on paints. Just be aware that they are a slightly different consistency, so you might not need to use as much medium, if any.
Hello ErgonomicChair! 😊The bigger (and curvier) the surface, the better -- 'cause you will have a wide painted area where the light can work on the pigments and reflect the Shift effect. Anyway, try to use these colors on those pieces. Don't worry if you're new to this - it's always worth giving it a try! 😊 Remember to use gloss black primer with these colors for optimal shift effect! Happy painting! ✨
Hi, This is Roger from the Airbrush Step by Step magazine - can we use some screenshots from the video for promoting "the Shifters" paint in our magazine article?
Hi Roger, thanks for seeking permission, yes no problem in using screenshots go ahead; if you can mention our RUclips channel in the article that’d be great. Thanks!
So with the turquoise violet paint used in this example, when I have used similar paints from other companies they also have like an orange in it. Is this only teal and purple flakes, or will there be an orange effect on the upper edges in certain light?
How do you use the gold yellow/burnt orange colour shift? It comes out greenish on mine. Used the vallejo gloss primer too. Also how about pearl violet? Use on gloss black base as well?
Can you apply transfer/ decals over the shifter paints, or does the use of gloss varnish and decals destroy the paint shift effect? I would like to use the turquoise violet to paint some Alpha Legion space marines.
Hello Danny! You shouldn't encounter any issues, but please test on a sample before using it on your models. Also, varnish shouldn't harm the shift effect.
One question, what does happen when you varnish shifters colours with, let's say, matte or satin varnish? Does it kill the "shift effect? Does the colour transition stay?
Hello Husk1184! This paint allows you to get a nice differentiation of your model's armor or silhouette plates. But in case you want to edge-highlight you can try first with a light color and then, if the result is not ok for you, paint again and apply a wash :)
Is it possible to mute the colour further? I'm looking more for a black with the colour appearing with the light for the Emperor's Children from warhammer 40,000. Could I tone it done with a black wash?
I normally use your premium colors where you don’t have a glossy primer. Can I use the premium black and then glossy varnish underneath the shifters? And can I seal them with varnish?
Hi Edward! Thank you for your comment. Yes, nothing prevents you from using brushes, but it's important to remember that they work best with a thin layer of color. This will really make the shifter effect stand out. To achieve this, airbrush application is highly recommended, as it will help you avoid any undesirable brush strokes 😊
Hello Munchy Dragon! The multichromatic pigments used in the formulation of these colors give them a vibrant metallic sparkle, while their glass-like coating acts like a refracting prism. Each flake presents a variety of colors depending on the angle of view and incident light; for this effect and top results and finish you must use black gloss primer as the base color :)
I wonder how this would look over top of silver. Like... a power sword or magic sword that is metallic turqoise to metallic violet... I want to find out but haha, they're out of stock on Amazon, and you can only buy them in the 6 packs. XD
@@kovacs991 if they're like the greenstuff world colors, lots and lots of layers because they don't cover well. It's much easier to do with an airbrush.
I just got massively confused. Lol...you say that you are adding the greenish blue color....and it's white. So...how the heck does it go from white in the plastic container to blue on the figure?

The white part is medium, when you look at those "white" color-shifting paints, it looks like pearl. Shifting colors are obtained by metallic pigment that don't reflect color by themselves, the black undercoat is part of the reflection process that makes the color appear. That's also why several layer are required. In some color-shifting paints, the pigment are colorful enough so it doesn't look white. Those can be used with non black undercoat.

Would matt varnish destroy the effect?
