These are translucent colors, so the shifts come from the light reflected from the base, but also from the amount of light those can absorb. So it works on ANY really dark base, that is DIFFERENT, from the shifter colors. 👍
Also, if you guys build up too much the paint layers, more than 3 sometimes, it dulls the results, it stops being translucent and looses it's shifting ability. Love your reviews and tips!🤗
Hello there, I'm wondering will it dull if I paint gloss varnish or 2k varnish over it ?
It shouldn't, if the paint is completely dry. You should get a mirror finish, which is shinier than the paint itself.
@@botarzoltan3206 Nice! Thank you for your reply.
I've had all three sets for a while, my chief complaint is they are sold only in sets. So if you have a favorite color and run out, you're SOL unless you buy another whole set. Glad to hear that Olly is going to be alright. They are truly man's best friend.
I have managed to get individual Vallejo shifter colours over here in the uk. Maybe because it’s a European brand it’s easier to ship small nos of individual colours here
This is the reason why I'm not using them for my 40k army.
If you spend enough time on Ebay, you can find single colors! Because some colors are more popular than others you might have trouble getting the ones you want!
@@zobris may I ask which??
Thank you so much for all of reviews of products and all of the tips. After taking a 20 year hiatus from modeling, so much has changed. There are so many different brands of every single product out there and thanks to your videos, it gives us great insight in how to wisely spend our money and choose the products we purchase based on our needs. I used to dread going to Hobby Lobby with the wife but I frequent there more then she does now a days. Thank you once again, keep up the good work. I pray for Holly’s speedy recovery and cannot wait for an update.
Great to hear Olly is on the mend and will be back home with his Dad soon. This range of shifters is I think the best of all 3 and really goes down easily. some great car colours there I think.
I am glad to hear Olie is doing better. I had to put down my 2, 18 year old Bichon Frise's last February and it still hurts at times.
Glad to hear olly is going to be ok 👍
Glad Ollie is out of the woods! Great looking paint, love it when it's something we can grab at an in person store when the desire hits us.
Glad your puppy is doing well now...first I've heard of it...
I hope your dog gets better soon. He's such a handsome boi.
Right on glad he's doing better 👏 👍
Sorry your dog olly was at the vet, glad he'll be home tomorrow 😊 👍
Don't need thinner with these or any of Vallejo Colorshift. Been spraying these without thinner with a .2 and .3 tip, no clogging or anything; they're already pretty liquidy.
I've actually sprayed my car with color shifting pearls once upon a time when I painting cars before my son was born. My fishing rods and reels are actually the same pearl as my car so it blends at all angles.
Now the pearls that appear as white they're actually called white/interference pearls. When spraying on white, they give you a pearlescent glow of that colorwhen the light hits them. I have a bag of blue interference pearl in my garage that i was supposed to give to a friend years ago, but never happened. I could essentially mix these in a clear acrylic acrylic and they will do the same.
If you do too many layers over a black surface, they will "white-out" and you'll lose the effect.
Man, I have learned a lot from you regarding air brushing. I've never used acrylic paint before, only enamel paints. At one time I was building plastic car/trucks kits, when I had the space. Now, I'm customizing hot wheels. Never had a compressors, only can air and rattle cans. I'm looking forward to getting a shed for my hobbies. Maybe one day I can afford some nice air brushes and compressor. Thanks for the tips, a lot of your information, I use on my diecasts.
Great to here that Olly is coming home. Dogs are really great friends.
Super happy for Olly! Thank you for your channel sir! Sounds like that would be a cool album!
I’m curious how they would work over clear. Trying to get the look of fighter jet HUDs (Head Up Displays). Thanks.
Get well Ollly! 😍
So happy to hear Olly is doing better!
So glad to hear Olly is a ok and coming home....
Very happy to hear Olly is doing better and is home. Having just gone through some stuff with my puppies, I know all to well how good it feels to know they're healthy and back home. ❤️
These color shifts are pretty cool looking, always good to know what works and what is just "eh." i might need to pick some up to use on a car and figure gk. Looking forward to another tool video as well. Anything that makes the hobby easier and keeps it fun, I'm all for.
Again, thanks for another informative video. 👍
Glad You're Dog is doing ok
I have a The Fly model I’m going to be doing in the future and that gold shifting green one is going to be perfect for the eyes of it
I spray in my living room (only space I have) and I’ve just packed away my booth for the holidays, so I’m going to have to make do with only watching your videos until I can start building and painting in mid January. I top coated my daughters HG full armour unicorn with the Vallejo green blue violet shifter. It doesn’t really show too much, but with those colours and the angles of the unicorn, when light hits it, it gives a nice slight sparkle over the white that compliments the Green psycho frame
thx ...another instructive vid...
and
prompt recovery for puppy
Hurray for Olly! Dogs are innocent souls, so they deserve to be happy. The color shifts are cool too. Vallejo never give me much trouble, and fairly cheap on Amazon usually.
I find these and every other color shift I've tried, work really well over the Vallejo Gloss Black primer. It makes the Turbo Dork Turboshift paints really show their stuff.
Great to hear that Olly is doing well. I've used two of your tips in the last week. Bought a cat scratch from the dollar store to hold my wooden sticks with clips. And, I used your decanting spray paint tip with Rustoleum paint for plastic, and worked like a charm! Better than using a straw!
That's awesome dude. Glad I could help
I use these shifts over color "matched" clear parts on my Gundam kits. Helps with the "energized" look. Like a red shift paint on the Unicorn clear parts.
I also use them on some of my Warhammer kits for the Force weapons or anything "magical"
I’m glad Olly is ok and coming home tomorrow.
Awesome News!!!! Glad Olly is doing well.
So glad to hear that your furry buddy is coming home in good shape. It’s always tough to have a member of the family sick. Great review. I agree with others who don’t like buying these in sets. Vallejo should consider selling these separately just like all their other paints, which may also be in convenient sets.
These all look pretty much the same. The differences are subtle. Really wish you could just pick one you want rather than buying a whole set I will never use.
I have the Galaxy Dust set but plan to get the others eventually.
A friend of mine suggested trying them over metallic bases but I've not tried that yet.
hope olly will be back to their old self when you get em home!
Never thought I would pick up a new band from a paint demo video but here we are.
I love my Power Metal, just spreading the word on great music
I'm so glad the dog is ok. Just went through that with my cats.
When i mix my paint i use my hyper sonic cleaner, after its done i just give it a little shake in to fully mix the paint!
i have all three on my xmass list hope santa sends me them plus i hopr i catch your give a way when i find ur videos its days later this time only a few hours fingers crossed i truly love your videos very helpful thank you
Awww im so happy your dog is ok!!!!!!!!! I have a dog too...I know the feeling...there our best friends!! lotta awesome gifts if you will lol! these are my fav vids, the color shift:)
@11:40 the shift on the white spoon looked like a raw egg without the shell layer. go back and watch the footage the shift is the yolk in the center bouncing kind of. very subtle effect for something totally different lol.
Way to go, Olly!
So glad to see Olly on the mend!
Thank you
Thanks for doing this, I have the space dust set and absolutely love it
Cool thanks for the video. I hope he ok
Just ordered all 3 sets Monday from Micro Mark 20% off cyber Monday. Can't wait for them to get here.
I'm sure glad Ollie is OK!
Glade to hear he is going to be okay.
I used the space dust set. The results are outstanding
Great paints
@@barbatosrex9473 agreed. I use them on R/C car bodies.
Great! I'm glad your dog is doing better! Pets can be rough and sometimes we're more attached to them than friends and family. I don't know if you've ever watched Dip Your Car on RUclips, but they test a ton of pearls and shift powders and do some interesting things. They use a lot of powders from KP pigments, but unfortunately the smallest amount they come in is 5g, which is overkill for small scale stuff. The colors are so good though I'm thinking about getting in touch with them to see if they might offer a smaller amount for modelers. The Vallejo shifts are nice, but it is confusing with so many different ones and some just have slight differences.
Holy cow I need to add this paint to my arsenal.
Nice, mostly use Vallejo.
С нетерпением ждем следующего выпуска видео !
I’m actually working on a kit that’s using these for a galaxy/space paint job. They’re a great set. Hope Ollie’s doing better!
If Vallejo could just make that golden yellow, and spray that over those metallic golds, you might be able to get that shine we look for on those Gundam kits. Imagine.
Im glad Olly is ok, im more of a cat guy, but all pets end up being part of the family!
The colors on those are amazing. But i wish they sold them separately as well.
Great stuff man.
Thanks for this video
Please do GREEN STUFF WORLD Paints and UV Paints. They also have reusable molding gel, where you can cast molds and duplicate parts for other projects. I appreciate your work
Good news for your dog but gosh bad news you had to go thru stuff in order to find out he was ok all along. I was gonna buy these at some point cause I had bought the Micheal Keaton Batmobile and it shows a bit of a purple shim to it or hue and kinda been holding off cause I got to prime it Black and hope it gave enough of a purple hue to it without it going too overboard and ruining that black sleekness.
Hi. Hope your dog is home soon. Cool review, thanks. Quick question, are these paints opaque or translucent? Could they be sprayed over a clear canopy or would they fog it up? Thanks.
I've had it best over black gloss.
glad to hear olly is coming home. when will the neon liners be back in stock?
Gladly it is good with olly. We got a 20 year old cat here walking on his last legs. Was my partner when building. But on all comes a end. I used yestreday Green Stuff World shifting colors on a Audi R 8 body. Don,t know or you can buy that in the USA. But it lays down like a dream. Borealis Green. And the effect is WOOOOW. I live close to them in Spain and after my visit at the hospital went there and asked or they got some paper info from them. I got a tour throught their company, coffe, and rattle can citadel primer, and 2 bottle of that shifting colours. The borealis Green en Mystic yellow. And all for free. I know already what will be my x-mas gifts😃😃, Happy holidays for all and many good years with ollie in good healt
I know it is an older video but I was wondering if you have some advice for a newbie here. I tried this line from Vallejo, specifically the Red/Gold over a gloss black primer for a miniature car. It unfortunately isn’t red/gold. I used it mostly unthinned with an airbrush. Any advice? Should I use a different base layer or apply multiple coats? Hope you see this comment. Thank you in advance!
This sounds strange, the base is fine. It has to be shaken really well. Have you tried it over red primer?
Your videos have been a huge help as I get back into the hobby after about 10 years. :) Do you have any recommendations on glue applicators for small areas?
I wonder how it would look over metallics.
I couldn't have a paint shaker like that, my GF would break it sitting on it.
Hi, I love your videos, I recently started airbrushing Slot car body shells, would the colour shift still be effective with a gloss clear coat?
I haven't tried it with the Vallejo shifters, but i did a car with a TurboDork color shift (also water based acrylic) and i still got the color shift after i cleared it. With anything though I'd try it on a spoon or something first.
Where did u get the airbrush stand
That u always use single stand
Glad you’re dog is doing better
Can you use acrylic paints for die-cast models? (Paint strip them and repaint - or sand the top coat and paint over it) what primer do you need. I'm looking for a non-toxic way of painting die-cast. Thank you!
Sure you can. Any primer will work also. If your looking for an acrylic primer I'd go with Stynylrez. They're my favorite acrylic primer. I did a full video on them
The RUclips Channel "Dip Your Car" Can give you some good Idea's to do with colour shift paints, pearls and candy's then test on some spoons.
In what order would you rate the 3 different brands? :)
Just a shout out to Ollie 🐶
Can you apply this without an airbrush?
Hi, a bit off topic, you tested AK super chrome a while back and said you would give an update on it's durability. Any news on that? Really enjoy your vids even if I'm o my a car guy.
I just checked on the piece I put the chrome on and it's pretty good. Not the most durable but it holds up OK
@@barbatosrex9473 Thanks for the quick reply.
All the best to Olly.
Do you think AK is more durable, better than GSW?
hmmm, maybe i'll pimp out an f22 or something with one of these
OooOooo I need a airbrush set, lost mine during foreclosure 😣
Gah to fast hitting that enter button, good news regarding your bud. 🐶
What is this vibration machine?
Here you go

I like some of the Vallejo paints but the primer they have is very weird in that it is hydrophobic.
all color shift paints seem to just be purple and green. i don't see much different in all of those
They stop shifting kinda fast, I can only get around 3 months before they go bland. Didnt matter how the painted items are stored. Older paint sets and not worth the money.

You keep talking about a dark gray. I haven't seen a dark gray in the vid. Light gray yes. Dark gray no.
I sure hope Ollie is ok!
