    Congratulations on your delightful video. I feel and recognise your excitement and nerves. I know you have packed far too much stuff! Less is most definitely more on Camino 😊 Layering is a key to packing light. You could have one short sleeve T and one long sleeve. Wear both if it's chilly. Quick dry so you hand wash after walking and it will dry overnight. Another light layer for evening/sleeping. Thin fleece, and I take 3x underwear and socks. If you find there's something you do later need, Spain has shops 😅 If you take too much, you can send the surplus to Santander, Correos will hold it for you until you arrive. Or use Casa Ivar.
    I look forward to your journey.

    Hello Irina.
    I am following your story and the beautiful images of your journey in your walk. The truth is that I like how you approach the place from your visual perspective, because I live next to where you have walked, you have passed through a not very high mountain with a church on that rock.
    I liked the route you have taken and that I walk it every day.
    Good way!!

    Hi Irina, what a wonderful adventure you have started😊 I can understand your sense of starting a new life (as I am currently in a similar situation), and I ask Our Heavenly Father for guidance for insight✝️🙏That's why I think it's super cool and daring that you are doing the Camino. I hope to learn from your experience and knowledge to get the courage to perhaps take such an action! I don't know how far you are with the Camino or where you are currently in Europe, I want to wish you lots of luck, strength and motivation from God🤍 May He watch over you and protect you in all cases. Set it up and I will follow your videos (otherwise can we follow you on another platform/social media)? Greetings, Samuel from the Netherlands

    Hope you have/had a great journey. The hard part of packing for the Camino, at first, is figuring out all the things you should buy. Then the hard part is figuring out what to take out, because you bought too much stuff.
    For anybody watching and planning a Camino trip… her pack is way too heavy. Too many clothes. Accept the fact that you’ll stink no matter what you wear and that’s fine. Don’t bring “extra” anything except maybe one extra pair of socks and one extra pair of underwear. Other than that, nothing “extra”. If you ever need more stuff, you can buy it on the Camino, but don’t bring it.
    Your total pack weight (minus water) should be less than 15 lbs. lighter the better. To put in perspective how much you really need… ultralight hikers who hike the pacific crest trail from Mexico to Canada have total base weights less than 10 lbs. I can tell Irina’s pack is easily over 20 lbs. and Pacific Crest Trail hikers need tents, sleep pads, cook systems, etc. but they are smart in what they carry and only take what they absolutely truly NEED. Any excess weight creates risk of injury to your feet, ankles, knees and back. Extra weight also slows you down and makes the hiking painful.
    Most Camino prep videos are by people who’ve never hiked long trails. Search for “ultralight Camino” to get good gear advice. Or ultralight hiking gear lists. Homemade Wanderlust is an experienced American hiker who did the Camino with an advanced knowledge of what to bring.
    All that said, the Camino and life are forgiving and everybody can learn and improve as you go along. Making mistakes is part of the journey. The most important part is attitude and Irina has a great attitude.

      @walkingwithirina  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much for this incredible input!!!
      I will definitely pack differently on my next Camino. It was a bit difficult to predict since I was going to walk during the season change. And no experience in long hiking at all. And you are so right, we learn from our mistakes:)

      @@walkingwithirina you’re welcome. To reduce stink and to be lighter, get merino wool base layers and mid layers. They are antibacterial which drastically reduces stink. Stink is caused by bacteria. Your sweat doesn’t have bacteria. The mixing of sweat on clothes creates bacteria. So don’t wear deodorant (because that damages wool). Also, merino wool dries very fast which is important on the Camino. You can easily hand wash or no-wash for several days. The odor resistance of merino wool is magical. So you won’t need all those clothes, save weight, no need for deodorant, and you’ll be much lighter. Also, deodorants and perfumes attract men… and bugs. Mostly bugs. So ditch those. Merino underwear is available and merino socks. Merino socks can also go a long time before stinking. Effective layering systems save weight and keep you warm. But that takes research, esp getting a good outer shell for rain. In Spain, the Altus brand makes a good rain poncho that covers the backpack for rainy season camino and it’s also a layer of warmth. Everything you take should be reduced to the lightest, smallest versions you need. Small light stuff can get more expensive, but worth looking into. For example, your water bottle is heavy. You can get a plastic bottle water and refill it. The little things all add up.
      Old advice was to pack no more than 20% of body weight. But with modern technology and more knowledge, 15 lbs would be a reasonable max weight for a Camino pack. And under 10 lbs would be better.
