    I’m with IB on the fact that I’m also use to a 9 foot 7WT fly rod to punch through all the wind we have to contend with. That aside, it was really exciting to watch Andy land that fish which was half the size of the rod. So if Andy’s day job is being a guide, when I book a flight across the pond to visit the, “Land Of My Ancestors”, I want Andy as my guide for English Fly Fishing simply because HE KNOWS HOW TO CATCH FISH. 😀

    Funny enough, I bought a combo kit to learn to fly fish with. I think it was 8.5’.
    Anyways, I couldn’t figure out how to cast that thing, and ended up breaking it in the back of my buddy’s truck before I could use it.
    Fast forward to now, I just put the reel on an old bingo bug rod that I have. That rod is my favourite already, I use it everywhere the wind cooperates. Now that I put that fly reel on it, I can cast it better than with the original rod.

    Damn. That is an odd rod for sure... Smallest I have is a 5 ft 2wt. For real real small tight brooks and catching like 3 to 4 inch bookies... That was a great video though. I think the challenge of that shorty rod was definitely in the casting but also in the mending and manipulation of the line. I really think you both did great!! Thank you for another awesome video!! I may look into getting that outfit as a back pack tool to add when I am prospecting. Be safe and keep them lines tight!!

    • @IBandAndyFishing

    Andy, I’m curious if you’ve read the book, CHALK STREAM, SALMON & TROUT FISHING by Charles Bingham? It’s an older book, but the kind that inspires me to want to come visit the UK. If I’m not mistaken, it might even be part of the Fly Fishing International Series. 😇

    • @IBandAndyFishing

    • @m.h.english4773
      @m.h.english4773 6 месяцев назад

      I’m really enjoying it, yes. It’s the kind of book which makes me want to go there with my fly rod. Also, that “Zap-A-Gap” you turned me onto in one of your videos REALLY WORKS. My knots have never been great by any means, but a single drop of it can not only keep clinch knots from coming undone, but also kept the sole from an older shoe of mine from completely falling apart. The thing is, I had never even heard of it before seeing you use it in one of your videos. Sort of makes me wonder what else I have yet to learn. But the content you have been providing really has been therapeutic, and particularly at times when we’ve been stuck at home and can’t quite make it out on the water. I also have enjoyed watching the competitive spirit between the both of you. My spouse who happens to be able to do anything I teach her better than myself just received a 6WT Reddington Crosswater fly rod combo for Christmas, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing which one of us can catch more fish, with a view to eventually flying across the pond to fly fish on some English Chalk Streams. 😇

    Hi guys, would like to see it tried with a #4 line or a Barrio SLX #3, for a practice/fun rod it would have to be cheap, can't see many flying off the shelves. Are the rainbows stocked? if so what are your thoughts on stocking wild brown waters with 'Bows?

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  4 года назад +1

      Next time I take it out I'm going to overline it by one and put a slightly lighter reel on the back of it - I think there's a really nice rod in there somewhere.
      Regarding the rainbows, they're stocked in the dove yes. Not my cup of tea personally, the river produces some really big wild browns and grayling and in my opinion doesn't require stocking at all.

  • @jorvikangler
    @jorvikangler 4 года назад +2

    It's an interesting little outfit that amplifies every timing error in your cast. I originally thought there needed to be one more guide on as I kept getting a loop of line before the tip ring. I then tried casting with out the reel and that problem disappeared. I've since loaded the line on a Wychwood River & Stream 2/3, at a third of the weight, and it feels a lot better. The Traxion 1 2/4 would have been a better choice of reel.

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  4 года назад +1

      That's exactly what we said after the day, I think I'm going to overline it by a size too. It's pretty hard to carry any line in the air with it, some having a bit more mass to shoot with might help things along. To be continued!

    • @jorvikangler
      @jorvikangler 4 года назад

      @@IBandAndyFishing I've tried a DT4 which just created a different set of problems, but I'll let you try and see what you think. I think the best thing to do is flail about over grass with it until you get the hang of it, then go fishing with it.

    • @TheEonRed
      @TheEonRed 4 года назад

      What's your budget? My suggestion would be spend the most on a decent rod, and save on the reel, a cheaper rod is okay, but makes casting more difficult. 90% of the first fish you catch on fly won't even result in you using your reel at all.

    • @andysparks8245
      @andysparks8245 4 года назад

      All depends on where you're likely to be fishing, a #5 would be fine for a river but if you're likely to be fishing reservoirs and lakes then I'd suggest something heavier like a #7 and up to 10ft..... and the Sigma range will do you just fine, there are very few "duff" rods out there today.

      IB and Andy Fishing actually an interesting point of discussion this for you , you should do a Q and A on it. As I tried to google too but not much came up, apart from the River Wye is the only UK river where there are “wild” rainbows that are deemed to be fine to stay there. Where as in Scotland every river and Loch association insist rainbows must be killed to protect the native species! To the point where last year, thousands of rainbows escaped from a farm on Loch Etive and made their way into the River Awe system, people were asked and allowed to go fish for free, any method, to remove them! Sorry for the long reply. It is just an interesting topic of discussion.
