    Welcome to the world of micro-steamers Andy. I tie them down to a size 14 jig hook. I am teaching my 8 year old son to fly fish and these are a great way to get him started as the presentation is not super critical. One technique that works great in ponds and lakes is to tie a micro streamer under a fat Chernobyl Ant and give it a slow skitterish retrieve with lots of pauses. The Perch and Pan fish will take them both enthusiastically and it is lots of action to keep the kids interested. I imagine it would work for trout too but I have not tried it on trout water yet.

      @@IBandAndyFishing streamers have been around a very long time. To me that is just snobbery. So they want to stay in the past only when it suits them? Yet they use Carbon rods, plastic fly lines, mono leaders, metal redls, even eyes in rods are not original.
      The original fishing rod fly or no, was a three piece rod. The bottom was winter Hazel, the middle was Summer harvested Hazel and the top piece was either an Apple or cherry shoot seasoned. Held together by being cut on a bias and laced with leather. The line was black braided stallion tail hair either braided or furled. The leaders or tippet was a strand of black tail hair or for a lighter tippet white or gray. The horse hair line was carefully cleaned and treated and passed on to the next generation. Silk fly lines were a technological improvement. Anyone who turns fly fishing into a game of snobbery, does not belong on the water.

      Cheers! Ha possibly makes them look huge but obviously very effective - lots of good size fish. Love the whole approach - bow and arrow casts to fish streamers euro style. Quality stuff!

    Maybe behind the times regarding terminology is a streamer just not a lure in old money?

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  3 года назад +1

      Yeah definitely, though I do think the term is changing. To me a streamer is imitative to a reasonable degree, whereas I'd call a chartreuse or bright orange humongous a lure.
      Also, if I use the term 'lure' then folks who use soft/hard plastic lures on spinning kit will wonder what's going on 🙈😂

    Whats the reason for not snugging the knot up on the fly?

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  3 года назад

      Good question! It's a perfection loop, I use them with streamers as it allows more movement of the fly on the retrieve 👍

      @@IBandAndyFishing yeah I saw you got a big one on the last day of the season when you were streamer fishing for trout. I have watched most of your videos. Really enjoy them. And the banter with IB keeps it interesting. I love fishing and it has been keeping me sane during the last year. I do most types of fishing but have been getting into the salmon fishing over the last couple of years. I got a 12 lb salmon on the fly last year. Started to video when I was fishing during lockdown as mostly fish alone and I found it nice to look back at after. Got a video of catching the fish and intend to make some more. Just abit of fun.
