I’ve watched and learned so much from these videos but not left a comment on RUclips. You explain this so well and in a way most of us can understand. I and a number of my friends have never tried this style of fishing but were inspired by your videos. Owe you a few drinks when the pubs open again!
The learning curve on this technique can be quite steep for most fisherman. You've done an excellent job of packing an amazing amount of information and hands-on instruction into a relatively short video. All aspects are covered. Well done !
I keep coming back to this video... Haven't made it to a good river yet so I keep coming back for catch up.. Seriously one of the best euro Nymphing vids out there... Many thanks...
Got sick and tired of the lockdown nonsense in my home state, decided to go flyfishing again which I have not done so much in the last few years. Bought a new Moonshine Epiphany 10', 2wt and set out to try euro nymphing on a premiere tailwater and wow, what a difference! Took a couple trips to get a good handle on the technique, but then I had the epiphany, and now tightline nymphing has reignighted my interest in flyfishing and I am enjoying it as much as when I first started years ago. Cheers.
I'm new ish to fly fishing. I watched your video. Got everything i needed, set up and went out this morning to a local river. I landed 9 fish and lost 3 in a quick trip. A really enjoyable morning. Keep the good videos coming
@@IBandAndyFishing I'm not very good with fly names!! The point nymph had a silver bead and a black and purple body. The second was a gold bead with a orange and copper body. Thats probably not very helpful!! lol. Hope you don't mind me giving you an idea for one of your videos. A video on fishing small streams would be good, well for me anyway!!
@@andylamude3932 when I'm fishing really small streams (like ones you can jump over), I actually let the terrain dictate the rod choice. Meaning if I'm fishing really overgrown areas with overhanging trees, I prefer a shorter rod for the maneuverability bonus as opposed to a long 10'+ rod. If a stream is fairly clear of vegetation or other obstacles, using the longer rod is always an advantage because of the extra reach you can get.
You do a nice job with breaking down all the steps and making it simpler to understand the euro nymph techniques thank u for that cuz others I have watched use all the lingo but don't make it clear to understand and complete each step...so I wanted to give you props for your ability to instruct and demonstrate
Just watched this video as I wanted to learn to fish with the French leader, ie set up etc, I can say it is one of the best instructional videos I've watched what a great guy came across making it very clear ,impressed obviously a great instructor/guide. Thanks .
Well one, I think that this is one of the most clear and sensible presentations on these Euro techniques. Detailed enough and not obviously punting specific brands. I am not sure I agree with the use of fluorocarbon tippet, but everyone to his own. Very nice, informative video..
@@IBandAndyFishing Again, great video, I have watched a lot of fishing and casting videos, many are not that informative and simply filled with brand punting and excessive enthusiasm whilst lacking in real knowledge. I liked this two part series a lot. As to the fluorocarbon issue there are a few points. Firstly for the most part fluoro has a higher diameter for the same B/S, and to me the very slight (even questionable) advantage of visibility is negated by that. One of the most critical elements of getting the flies down and keeping them there in fast current is tippet diameter. Secondly I find it unreliable, break offs for no apparent reason. In the end I think that the extreme cost of fluoro' and it's unreliability combined with minimal possible advantages in terms of visibility don't add up. Currently I uses Stroft GTM for almost all of my stream fishing. Although I do a great deal more dry fly than nymphing. Opinions do seem to vary and the people most happy with fluoro seem to be the saltwater guys, where thickness of tippet may well mean an advantage in terms of visibility. For freshwater work I don't use it anymore. You may enjoy a blog post of mine from some time back paracaddis.wordpress.com/2014/06/19/fluorocarbon/ Kindest regards
I stumbled on one of your videos about 3 weeks ago where you and IB were alternating fishing- enjoyed it; since I started tight line nymphing here in New England about a year ago, I have learned a lot by trial and error, as well as from some U.S. made films. Having enjoyed your other video, I decided to watch your first one on "frenchie leaders". Well done. I'll be watching # 2 later today. I find I pick up a lot by watching and your explanations are very clear. I am also someone who gets "stuck in " to a new passion and reads and watches whatever he can find of an instructional nature!. I've found I can sort through different presentations, find what makes sense to me, ignore what doesn't, and then trial and error teaches the rest. I admit to often coming back and trying to relearn or absorb what I ignored. LOL. Thanks for a very clear and cogent presentation.

Hi Andy & IB, I hope you’re well. A video similar to this in regards to various set ups for dry flies, wet flies & nymphs would be great - which parts of the river to look out for (fast/slow/deep/shallow etc) and how to use those different flies according to the situation you’re in. With being new to the sport and not speaking to many people in person due to lockdown I’m struggling to understand whether or not I’m actually using the correct rig/method/fly for the situation that I’m in. All of your videos are really useful and I have learnt an awful lot of from you guys in such a little time - thanks for your dedication and help to the sport. Thanks!
It is videos like this and the people that put the effort into producing them that makes RUclips such an outstanding resource for folks like me trying to learn just about anything. And I haven't even seen part 2! My heartfelt thanks for putting in the time to make this, keep up the great work.

Another really easy to understand video, Andy. I've been French nymphing for 5 or 6 years now but was initially very confused by the fact every vlog I looked at described it as a long range nymphing method. However, you correctly say it is short to medium method. I started 'Czech' nymphing but now use the longer leader for both short and medium range fishing and although it took a long time to 'click' once I kept everything in line and just got to hold bottom for a steady drift, it made perfect sense (and caught me a lot more fish!). Thanks for a great video.
So many fishing videos are just about catching fish, so some genuine , excellent instruction is really welcome. You make what initially seems like a difficult technique seem relatively simple! Thanks guys

Congratulations, Andy! I was taught Euro nymphing three years ago by a former member of Italian national team and it really changed dramatically my life as an angler. Your explanations are very clear and you are an excellent communicator: you really were able to expose all the basic points in the most pleasant and encouraging way. Maybe I have just a little regret: your sighter (or bicolor) is nearly invisible in the video and it takes away much of the fun, because seeing the sudden tension of the line is very exciting - just like seeing the bite of a fish on the surface when dry fishing. Again, congratulations and keep up the good work! Thank you
very kind words Raul, thank you very much! I wish we could see the indicator better too, but the light on the day and the cameras we have just aren't of a high standard...
Wow...can’t wait to see part 2. I fished my first euro leader attempt yesterday trying it out on my 5 wt 9 foot rod. I really enjoyed the detailed look at your casting technique. I also liked how you attached the individual fly tippets with a tippet ring to the common tippet. I was following a pattern for the attachment of the top fly using a triple surgeon knot. Much harder to manage. If you can use a brighter sight that would show up better in the video it would be much appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
Really liked the three F adage: Foam, Food Fish. Over here in USA the equivalent is Foam is Home. Been Euro nymphing for about 3 years. Your videos have been very helpful. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Thank you, Well done another great video! You must both be doing something right as I keep finding myself watching your fly fishing videos and I don't even like fly fishing lol.Brilliant Andy and the best I've seen it explained mate,I like the maxcatch brand of fishing gear, the variety of colors, the effect will be different, your a natural infront of a camera.
Very, very good video. Never heard of anybody being against the stocking of giant rainbows, lol, that was a new one. I thought all British trout were stocked, lolol.
Very good tutorial and explanation of the techniques used for this style of nymph fishing, but can't understand why, when you cross to the other bank you don't simply fish with the rod in the other hand, much better than cross casting. So simple.
Thanks Terence! Great question; so I do teach both off the wrong shoulder and left handed. You'd be amazed how many anglers struggle with fishing with the wrong hand, particularly when you introduce a retrieve - it can really fox some anglers! Personally I do a bit of both, but again, if I'm shooting and retrieving line, I stay with my dominant hand 👍
@IBandAndyFishing When ever I am asked to teach a beginner to fly-fish , first thing I ask is " are you right or left handed" then I give them the rod in the OTHER hand. They usually make all the beginners mistakes but persevere, given time , casting will start to come together. Eventually I allow the change to the dominant side which their brain just naturally follows having broken the natural block to use their " off side" , they then will be able to cast with either hand, a huge advantage when fishing lakes and rivers when the wind has decided not to co-operate. Use whichever hand suits to play the fish, although reels are left or right handed on set-up, I haven't yet found a " handed" rod. Just my take on things, enjoy all your videos, I especially like the ones when I.B. outfishes you( only joking ) . Best regards and luck with your future editions.
very informative, well done i have yet to fish this technique and I'm looking forward to getting out there, I'm gonna veiw part two now. thank you both

very kind words Raul, thank you very much! I wish we could see the indicator better too, but the light on the day and the cameras we have just aren't of a high standard...
Always learn something ever time I watch this, great work Andy, hope the rain stops soon!
Thanks for sharing.
really glad you enjoyed it Daniel! Thank you!
Really liked the three F adage: Foam, Food Fish. Over here in USA the equivalent is Foam is Home. Been Euro nymphing for about 3 years. Your videos have been very helpful. Thanks and keep up the great work.
foam is home is a great one too! Thanks for the kind comment!
Excellent overview. Very helpful. Thanks!
Thank you, Well done another great video! You must both be doing something right as I keep finding myself watching your fly fishing videos and I don't even like fly fishing lol.Brilliant Andy and the best I've seen it explained mate,I like the maxcatch brand of fishing gear, the variety of colors, the effect will be different, your a natural infront of a camera.
you should try fly fishing then, that's all there is to it!
@@IBandAndyFishing Thank you, there are good fly fishing skills and utensils to share, I want to capture with you one day.
Very, very good video. Never heard of anybody being against the stocking of giant rainbows, lol, that was a new one. I thought all British trout were stocked, lolol.
Great video guy's,very educational, some nice trout caught, well done.no trout queen to beat you today lol.
damn it, rumbled! It's a lot easier if she's behind the camera, she can't beat me from there!
Great video as usual I'll have to try this method it's new to me. Great camera work IB enjoy your prosecco 😊
Thanks Thomas, much appreciated!
That was a nice fish never seen a blue trout before, not landed a fish this season just yet, regards from New Zealand 😃

So informative!! Thanks for all the fantastic advice.
Nice vlog mate.....well done :D
thanks Franci, much appreciated!
Learning a lot, Thank you
Very good tutorial and explanation of the techniques used for this style of nymph fishing, but can't understand why, when you cross to the other bank you don't simply fish with the rod in the other hand, much better than cross casting.
