  • One floor pan for the hardtop made...a few more small rust repairs, and then she goes back together! This all good practice for when I get back working on the convertible.
    Welcome to Jamieson's Repair Shop!
My current retirement project is restoring a rusted out 1965 Thunderbird convertible from the inside out.
I'm taking it apart, repairing everything that needs repairing and putting it all back together.
I'm doing body work, paint removal, rust removal, metal fabrication, welding, forming, patching, and that's just the beginning!
Down the line there will be interior and engine work as well.
Come on into the shop and take a look!

Hello Alvin. Real nice job on that floor pan fabrication. It's nice when our wives help out. My wife enjoyed the rebuilding of the engine. She says she's not interested in welding, though. Keep up the good work!

      Thank you George!
Beverley like working on the interior parts, and I thing she would enjoy some of the mechanical work also, even the welding she like...but not the body work, too much sanding! lol

Well I would have to say that pan came out pretty dang good!! I’m still waiting for the rainy monsoon to get over with to get to my son’s 65. I’ve spent more time weed eating, and trimming mesquite trees, than any sheet metal work.
Keep up the great work Alvin!!
And as always, looking forward to your next video.

By the sounds of things It's good that you are getting rain! It's taken us a week to get our place back from overgrown grass and weeds...it never ends! lol

The patch looks great. I bought pre-made floor panels (for both sides) because I don't have any of the fabrication skills or equipment you do. As others have said, they're a bit pricey for what they are. I bought a less expensive panel for the passenger side; it didn't have the contours that the original had, but it was a heavier gauge steel (18) so I thought that would be fine. It worked OK when welded in, but you could tell it wasn't quite as rigid as the driver's side panel that had contours like the original.

Thank you, I will be making another panel pretty soon, the convertible needs both front floor panels replaced...I've been trying hard to get back working on the convertible, but every time get geared up to go back on it, something else comes up! Today it is the rear brakes on my son's Jeep...I guess that's how it goes. Lol

Another great video. that floor pan looks good. Have you caught your fingers in the English Wheel yet? I'm sure that wouldn't feel so good. 😄

Hey Alvin, the VTCI international show in Kansas City MO is on right now 8/11/22 and your not here!!! Why not? A few other Canadians are here with very nice cars. Would have been nice to meet you. Lots of Thunderbirds here. Should be a good show. Im going to try and make a short video of it on Saturday. Good job in the video. Thanks

    Alvin,
Looks terrific, my friend. You saved a chunk of moolah over those offered by vendors, $145.00 each for the front and $180.00 for the rear, which for me is completely out of the question. What gauge metal did you use? Inquiring minds will want to know.
Btw...give Beverly a break. Her back is probably killing her from carrying you. 😎
    Regards,
    John

Yes, these floor pans are a little pricey.
I made the floor pan out of 18 gauge, should be good and strong.
Beverley says thank you for noticing that she is doing all the heavy lifting! 😜

Hey Mr. Jamison, I just discovered that I have to do both of my front floor pans on my '65 major bummer. I ordered one from the Birds nest but there like beer can thing 22 gauge steel. What gauge do you use/recommend?

    • @J_R_Shop
      @J_R_Shop  Год назад

Hi Michael, I use 18 gauge for my sheet metal work, 22 seams a little thin...but can be done, just have to watch the heat on the welder.
